Re: Poll: How Would You Rate State of Play for June 2025?

kmtrain83

I thought it was "okay." The only ones I seem interested in, most likely would be getting for Nintendo Switch: FF Tactics, Everybody's Golf, and perhaps James Bond. The only PS5 game I want is Ghost of Yotei, but we already knew about that. I beat the 3DS version of Metal Gear last year, so I'm not ready to jump back in to that... though it looks awesome.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think of the PS5 Pro, Six Months Later?

I mostly play on Switch OLED handheld and some docked. From my viewing distance, the base PS5 looks great already, so I don't see the need for the Pro. I am also one of those people that doesn't really mind 30 vs 60 FPS, for whatever reason (maybe it's genetic) : I usually go for graphics mode if given a choice.

Re: Opinion: Baldur's Gate 3 Was Already a 10/10, But Updates Have Made It an All-Time Masterpiece

I completed one playthrough in September, and gave it an 8/10 (Great). I had issues with the control scheme on PS5, some of the pathfinding was annoying, and the 3rd act started to drag. I wasn't really into the main plot for some reason. It is the kind of game that may get better over time, and I see myself playing it again, and probably double dipping on PC when it gets sub $30. My GOTY for 2024 was Unicord Overlord (9/10), and the best older game I completed last year was Persona 5 Royal (10/10), so I am into these types of games.

Re: Nintendo Is Displaying Hubris Which Would Make Even PS3 Era Sony Blush

I wanted to preorder the 500 USD bundle which is on hold. It’s not cheap by any means, but that’s the price for early adopters. My son and I looked at the alternative PS 5 Pro, but even with adding the Switch 2 bundle and then Donkey Kong when it releases July, it is still quite a bit less than the Pro, and we agreed we would get more enjoyment out of the Nintendo. In terms of the 80 USD precedent for physical Mario Kart, it remains to be seen if future DLC will be paid, because the prior version with all the bonus tracks was even more than 80 USD. Nintendo products tend to hold their value longer than comparable products for various reasons, including company policy.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 567

I finally got around to Tales of Arise which is the first game I haven’t dropped after a couple hours. It’s got just enough of story and gameplay to keep me invested. I’ll probably finish the main story but unlikely to purchase the DLC unless by the time I get to the end I feel like there’s more story to tell.

I decided to sell some of the more valuable but abandoned physical games from my backlog in order to make room for future games. Still on Act Iii of Baldur’s Gate 3 with fatigue setting in, and for casual /portable play it’s Dave the Diver on Switch. I also tried Balatro on Apple Arcade, although I already played it to death earlier this summer.

Re: Hardware Review: PS Portal Is the Perfect PS5 Companion (For Some)

kmtrain83

I currently have a PS5 in the 2nd floor bedroom, but am thinking of relocating it to the basement theater room after I upgrade from an old 720p projector to an 85" 4K TV. I am considering getting the Portal to store in the bedroom for late night or quick sessions without having to trek down two floors. I would like to see how it reviews on a mesh WiFi set up with a bit of distance, if it is laggy.

It fits a niche and offers a simpler and cheaper set up for a 2nd gaming location, rather than getting a 2nd PS5.
