One sentiment I’ve seen grow exponentially over the past few years is the number of players saying they’re going to leave PlayStation for PC.
That comment, already a popular point of view, has increased tenfold over the past week, since Sony’s announced its intent to stop manufacturing physical games.
I must admit, I don’t fully understand the connection here: PCs have been all-digital for a long time, so it’s not like anyone’s going to be buying Blu-rays there.
Generally it’s accepted that the PC ecosystem gives you more ownership over your games, and there’s obviously competition within the space, as it’s an open platform with a variety of competing storefronts. (Although ask Epic Games how that’s going for them.)
Broadly, I think this sentiment boils down to the fact that consoles just don’t have the advantage over PCs they used to have.
Hardware prices have risen exponentially on the back of the memory crisis, and while this impacts PC pricing as well, a PS6 is still predicted to cost you the best part of $1,000. Why not pay a little extra for a PC at that point?
Furthermore, consoles aren’t the pick-up-and-play solutions they used to be. While you don’t need to faff around with drivers and operating systems, you still need to download patches and install firmware updates.
But pertinently I think there’s a point of view that you can get everything on PC.
Sony has obviously changed its stance on single player games in the past few months, but as of today you can still buy major first-party games like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Steam.
That’s in addition to Xbox’s entire catalogue, and all those Steam oddities that take ages to hit consoles, like the recent breakout hit Meccha Chameleon.
Even if Sony does plot a return to true exclusivity, some are taking the view that they’re not missing out on much.
Naughty Dog hasn’t released a new game all PS5 generation, and once Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is out, we probably won’t hear from the Californian studio again until 2032 or later.
Is one or two exclusive titles a year worth sticking with PlayStation for?
I think all of this is aggregating at an unfortunate time for Sony, and it’s going to make the PS6 a difficult sell, if it wasn’t already.
But I’m curious where you’re at with all this. The Internet is loud, and it can sometimes skew perspectives. Are you also considering leaving PlayStation for PC and pastures new? Have you already made the transition? Let us know below.

I’ve always been anti PC since PS1 but I’ve got to say if we are locked into PS store with its ridiculous prices and online fee maybe PC would be a better option. And you’ve no idea how much it pains me to say that

I have a Mac, so PC gaming is a no-go and I honestly have no patience for mucking about with drivers and settings. As for what I'd do if a PS6 cost $1000, it kinda depends on the economics of whenever it releases. What do other things cost? How much do I make relative to everything? Will new releases still be coming out with comparable performance on PS5 Pro? How much could I make if I traded in my Pro?
Lots of questions that won't be answered until the PS6 actually releases.
I probably just wont buy next gen at all unless Helix brings something awesome to the table the Series X dont already offer. PS6 is pretty much a no go if they go all digital. Switch 2 will probably be my main console in the foreseable future.

Nah, I'm good. My library is here and hopefully that new upcoming handheld will allow me to play my PS4 & PS5 game library without needing to be tethered to WiFi like the current PS Portal is restricted to
I’m fine with my PS5 for the time being but when the time comes I’ll definitely be reevaluating my platform of choice. Now’s not really the time with the price of consoles and parts and none of the big 3 winning me over right now. In a few years when hopefully things have subsided and we understand more about what Xbox is doing I’ll make the decision then.
yes, my current PC bought in 2020 is better than a PS5 and can rival a PS5 Pro for some games. And this is before any even relatively cheap updates.
So without any cost, and saving 72 euros every year plus having access to cheaper (and more) games, I'm making the switch this summer.

I won't be "moving" anywhere since I never pledged loyalty to Sony and already play on PC and Switch 2 in addition to PS5. I simply won't buy PS6.
I do want to upgrade my PC but not at today’s prices. I won’t be getting a PS6 either but that has more to do with the library than anything. Switch 2 is going to be my primary after series x and PS5 end support. Will also be focusing on my retro collection and backlog.
Tough poll to be fair, But Imma stick around a bit more. I know the price of the PS6 will be make or break for a lot people, but until we get the actual price it's pure speculation, same with Helix.
It's not so much switching to PC as likely sitting out the next generation mostly or entirely. I'll still have a Switch 2 so it would just be the highest end AAA titles I will miss and tbh I haven't enjoyed those much in recent years anyway.
If I did decide to hop back in PC would be the most logical choice considering the superior stability of Steam vs PSN and when you factor in the annual cost of PS Plus (even just Essential for basic online multiplayer) to the cost of $1k+ PS6 the console price advantage is melting away these days.
Sony has to get the price way way down (like sub 350) for me to even consider it. The all digital bit really hurts them on top of this and makes it easier to cut the cord at least from my perspective. Without the ability to play all my old discs the 6 will have to stand more on its own as a value proposition. I have very few digital purchases. It's a double whammy of incentive to just stick with PS5 rather than move to the next generation.
I'd say it's less that I'm leaving PlayStation, and more that I'm going to be waiting until the end of next generation to buy a used PS6 off eBay for like half the price so that I can play the exclusives.
Because honestly, even if I did have around $1000 for a PS6, I think it's fair to say that it would be better using that cash elsewhere.
I will consider both PS6 and Helix.

According to my Steam Library I have 1661 games sitting and ready to go. I would quite happily pop back over to PC gaming if the only way to purchase console games are through the platform holders own store front.
I also own a tonne of classic PC games on disc, on GoG just outright normal old PC games unconnected to any store front. The EA thing, Epic, the Ubisoft launcher thing, Battle.net etc etc etc Not to mention years of Humble.
Its entirely possible to game on the PC without Steam, its tricky but its easily doable depending on what games you want and where you want to buy them from.
While I'm not intending on moving to PC gaming (mainly because having a console is convenient and getting a PC that is decently powerful would still cost as much) I'm not getting a PS6 at that price. I'll stay with my PS5 and whatever games still release for it, and continue to gather Switch 2 games as appropriate.
I don't game in pc.i never like it I been with Playstation since day 1 here in queens new york. I got my ps4 pro and ps5 pro.ithe ps6 is not on my list because of no disc but my backlogs of games is huge I can wait a long time I'm not a fan of a all digital ps6.no disc physical game than no I'm not getting the ps6.word up son
A huge perk of going to PC is free online.
Switch 2 seems to be the only console doing games that are Nintendo but a bit different.
Like DKB or Splatoon Raiders.
Sony and Xbox are very rinse and repeat, but Nintendo can be as well.

I basically already have, back in the PS4 days there was plenty of games from Sony themselves that I enjoyed and the rise of PSVR, making it comfortably my favourite platform. These days PSVR2 is dead in the water amd major exclusives are thin on the ground, with only Ratchet and Clank and Astro Bot being standouts for me.
A console which is digital only and no path outside of the hardware isn't something I have any interest in, whether that be Sony, Xbox or Nintendo, it just so happens Sony have jumped first. So my gaming is mainly PC, and even a large part of that is older games, mods etc with mainly Resident Evil keeping my interest in new stuff and with a bit of Switch 2 on the side

If $1000 is too much for people, why would they go to PC? I hope people understand that PC will still be more expensive relative to console.
Personally, i’m not considering switching to PC. The only thing that can make me switch is Sony giving up their exclusives
Not a chance, PC is also all digital but it's way too fiddly. I'm going to get a PS5 Pro in a few months and that will be me set until 2-3 years into the PS6 cycle, hopefully by then the price has dropped.
The PS5 and Switch 2 is all I need for a very long time.
Zero interest in PC. I’m fine with riding the console bandwagon until I die, and considering my first console was Pong, that isn’t that far off. Manual updates. Hardware upgrades. Hacking. No thanks.

I’d sooner quit gaming altogether than switch to PC. PlayStation is still my favorite platform and I’m still getting PS6 at launch. Why switch when $1000 is a very low-tier PC anymore and it still won’t play physical games?
Speaking of, I don’t really care about physical game production stopping either. PS4 & 5 discs just aren’t fun to collect, IMO.

Not a chance. The PC gaming community is filled with some of the most toxic people to exist, second only to Xbox. What made me a Playstation fan (aside from the stellar first party games) was how welcoming and progressive the people who played on PlayStation were. It makes me proud to be a part of this amazing clan of diverse and wonderful people. I wouldn't leave it for the world.

When all the next consoles are going to be are platforms for digital delivery why would you not choose the one that is obviously the best at that one thing? When you boil everything down why bother with a console anymore? So I can pay more for a worse experience?
I have enough games in the backlog to probably skip PS6 and Switch 3… It’s the damn FOMO that always gets me with the new new coming out, games or hardware… Bah!

Bit mortifying to admit but this whole debacle has forced me to reevaluate gaming as a hobby vs. gaming as an identity. Do I need to be up to date with the industry. The answer is no. Don’t know if I’ll migrate to PC but I certainly have no interest in playing console catch up.

For me, the PS6 was likely out of scope as an expensive closed platform, the disc issue just cements it. If they go all digital they need to sort out a proper refund policy, and better rights for ownership of a Library. To be honest I've not had a 'Personal Computer' since the C64, but the varied store fronts and versatility are calling me over, I think. My first actual PlayStation was PS3, had SEGA consoles up to Dreamcast. There are also lots of interesting retro games I see on PC and particularly GOG that never have a console release, so maybe its time. I don't really care much for modern AAA games so not like I'd be pursuing a very expensive entrance to PC gaming.
Sony has just pushed me back to more PS3/PS4/PS5/Vita games .... the backlog is awesome with tons of hidden gems ... Used game market will explode and all those sales Sony will lose out on ... Long live physical
I don't get the logic of trying to punish Playstation for eliminating discs by moving to a platform that hasn't offered physical releases for a decade or more.
I do some PC gaming, but the vast majority of my time is spent on Playstation, and that's unlikely to change.
I will add, I'm not a huge fan of multiplayer, but MP on a console is a billion times better than MP on PC, where bots and cheats are as rampant as the draconian anti-cheat methods which fail to work as designed.
Yeah. I mean, yes it's more expensive but living in a house is more expensive than living in a shed so why don't we all just live in sheds? And you save money by not having to pay for online, cloud saves etc. Wider game selection, cheaper games - and extremely cheap if you put on an eyepatch. So you'd actually save money in the long run, even without donning your wooden leg and parrot. And mods too - and while some may say "I don't want mods" it's amazing how many console gamers say things like "I wish the minimap was bigger" or "I wish I could change the UI size" and other various tweaks; well you can with mods.
I know it sounds like some silly clickbait headline but I do think traditional console gaming is dying. MS are doing some Steambox type thing and Nintendo dropped out of the home console market by switching to a handheld that can send its signal to a TV.
I loved consoles when they had a real identity and personality, and when PC and console had almost entirely mutually exclusive catalogues. But that's over now, sadly.

I already split my gaming time 75% PS5 and 25% PC and that probably won't change next gen. While I have been all digital since the start of the PS5 that doesn't mean I want physical to go away.

I play on console because I like physical games. If I'm going to be forced into a single digital storefront where everything is dynamic pricing, then I may as well just move over to PC where I have options. I'd be much happier if companies would just give me the damn game on a disc and I would prefer to stay with Sony, but no physical means there's no point in consoles, for me.

I don’t like how it’s so black and white or even slight shades. I’m pissed at PlayStation because they just keep making blunders and don’t seem to learn from those mistakes. That doesn’t end my love for the brand, and they’re gonna learn by me spending less and not rewarding bad decisions. But am I lying if I say I’m NEVER getting a ps6? yeah probably. Time has a way of softening opinions and giving people the ability to learn and change

I was already to download AC black flag on the Pro, watched the great reviews and then thought I’ve done all this before.
The same can be said for a lot of new games as well.
I’m starting to need games that make me think a bit harder use the old brain cells.
I went back in TOTK on switch 2 the other day and had to think a bit and thought this is what I need, a bit of working things out in my games.

Yeah. Which 1st party game on Playstation made it a must buy system? They’re held up by third party support, which will all come to PC sooner or later.
Only exclusive games that interested me were astrobot and Ghost of Yotei. The rest was also released on PS4.
If it wasn't so damn expensive I would. I already have a Steam account and about 250 games on their but nothing AAA quality. Just visual novels and adult games tbh.
As a Steam Deck owner, my eyes have really been opened to the number of AAA and indie titles available, in addition to having better sales than the PSN since Steam has competitors on PC. We all already know that physical discs keep digital storefronts competitive. I do not trust Sony's pricing strategy if a competitor is no longer present.

I think the only thing that would get me to just completely ditch Playstation altogether is if they didn't even allow for downloads. Ya know, go full into streaming only like Stadia tried and thankfully failed. I dabble in PC gaming but its simply not how I prefer to play my games.
That said I'm not buying a PS6 at $1,000+. Especially when you consider how there is not likely to be many if any exclusive games on the platform anyway.
The PS5 still has plenty of life in it for me so for the moment, unless the PS6 somehow really surprises and intrigues me, and somehow doesn't cost a fortune, I'll just stick around on PS5 for a while longer.

This whole debacle has me thinking Pc will be my main gaming rig going forward. My PC is already loads more powerful than a PS5 pro. I just hated windows 11 so much I stuck with PS5. Now with SteamOS being as great as it is, I have it running on my SFF pc and it blows anything I throw at it out of the water.
So yeah, I think I’m done. I’ll still get PS5 exclusives on sale. But going to let my Plus subscription lapse.
I don’t think there is any coming back from this. Now is the time for Sony to be more competitive (because of Valve). Not less.
No, my PC is not in a convenient place to game (I'd have to basically not be around my family), but my Ayn Thor is going to get a significant amount of use. As a casual trophy hunter I'm very happy with the Retroachievements community so that'll keep me going.
@Matroska Let alone the numerous ways the PC has made strides in creating console-like front ends for people put off by the "fiddling" aspect of PC gaming. Programs like Steam Big Picture and the Nvidia app make just starting a game, updating drivers just as straight forward as when you turn on a PS5.
I spent more time faffing around with BF6 options on my Playstation than I did on the PC beta. In fact its become routine to go into the options to turn off motion blur, DoF, film grain and vignettes. I view that as a net positive for console gaming btw.
In principle, I would like to leave Sony based on the very anti-consumer behavior lately. But in reality, I'm already 99.9% digital and have been since the PS4 generation, and since I love Sony exclusives for the most part, I probably will stick around.
I have such a big backlog that I nowadays generally wait as long as needed for a good sale. I'm concerned that those sales will happen less, with more shallow discounts. That's one point of concern from a personal point of view, although I can afford the games at launch if I really want them, so it's not a dealbreaker.
Additionally, lately I have much less time to game, and so I only play a few major titles per year. So again, it just isn't a big impact for me.
That being said, I do feel really bad for people who love physical games and who purchase or have purchased a lot of physical games, because this is going to really mess up their hobby.
Perhaps my biggest concern is that Sony can remove anything at any time from the digital store and have shown that they are willing to do so. But as I would be purchasing games digitally on Steam anyway, despite their promises to always allow access to games, I don't know that I can necessarily trust some other massive corporation any more than I can trust Sony.
I'm also a multi-console gamer/owner, and the way these companies are treating their IPs and leaving great franchisees behind causes me to be a lot less interested in gaming than perhaps any other factor. Or for example Nintendo's often lazy approach to both remakes and new titles, which often feel mailed in, with a few exceptions. And Xbox... well I flat out regret owning their machines the last two generations.
All I know is it's a big sigh and definitely puts a damper on gaming enthusiasm. I see new titles now on YouTube and things I used to get hyped for, and I'm just kind of like, "whatever, it can wait," or "I don't really need this".
I also recently purchased a Commodore 64 Ultimate, and there is just a massive amount of quality stuff to dive into with that catalog. So once I do have time, there are definitely other options, regardless of how this all plays out and how my feelings may or may not change.
The greatest concern is the industry's health as a whole. I do think Nintendo can come out of this intact, but I just don't know about Sony, and I'm convinced Xbox is already dead.
PC gaming has been almost completely digital since George W. Bush was President of the U.S. I'm not sure all of poll respondents understand that.
nope, pc will always be more awkward than any console, you always need to make sure your specs are good enough, the ease of use of a console is just no match for a pc, not to mention the incredible superiority of joypad as opposed to the super awkward mouse + keyboard
If buying a console for a high price makes people not want to buy it I am not sure why they would even consider switching to PC especially if they wanted to play the newest games as if they wanted similar performance to that console they are more than likely have to pay a considerable amount more.
Yes you can argue you can save money in the long run but that can be all depending on how many games you buy.
If you are only wanting to play older games though and ones that aren't available on modern consoles then a lower priced pc will be the way to go and that probably means you weren't going to buy a new console anyway.
I use both and won't stop that because I find someone games more suited to a pc especially those more designed with mouse and keyboard in mind. Other games that are designed with a controller in mind I will more than likely play on console.
Yes, I'm basically there already. I did recently upgrade my old PC just before the Iran war (it was a bad time for upgrading due to the ram shortages, but it's only gotten worse since then), and I'm still on a PS4.
I was thinking the PS6 might pull me back (I did have the PS2 and PS4 after all), but that seems unlikely now. Physical games was one of the big advantages consoles had over PC, and the console costs are going to be eye-watering.
Already have for the most part. I'll still buy exclusives while they do physical media but come 2028 I'll stick to pc.. At least there if you shop round you can get digital games for the kinda price they should be

PS6 will be digital and could cost up to 1000. Switch to PC which is all digital, will cost you 2000 for a good future proof rig (if you don't have a good PC already) and start a new library of games. hmm. I have both but I only use my console for games. I just prefer it.
I always went between a Sony console, a Nintendo console and my PC for years (last Xbox console I played a ton of was the 360), but over the last few years I've been playing my Sony consoles much less and my PC/Nintendo console much more. Mainly because I just prefer PC and I can get games much cheaper from Humble and Fanatical and Steam sales.
In the last year or so a few of my friends/ family who were PC gamers moved over to PlayStation - PS5 Pro in all cases I think.
They had just got so fed up with compatibility issues and wasting time messing about with getting things working properly, and also sick of all the cheating in online games.

I feel like I’m fairly future proof with a Pro and Switch 2. The appeal of a console to me, the simplicity and focus on games, is still there so I’ll likely stick.
It is the first time in a long time where I’m not looking at the next generation as an easy day one decision, but that’s largely down to cost and potentially how much benefit I’ll get for that initially.
If a Steam Machine 2 came out with competitive performance and a sensible price that’s the most likely place I’d move to as a primary device.
I invested in a gaming handheld pc and a laptop, not really bc of Sony, but bc I knew prices were going up. I didn’t want any regrets if they became cost prohibitive. I will stick with Sony in some capacity, but I will shift focus more to pc.
I feel like it's disingenuous to answer whether you'd buy ps6 for $1k. We know next to nothing about the actual console, the launch date, or the launch lineup. Those are all the things that will decide if I buy a ps6 for $1k.
That being said , I've bought (or my parents as a child) every Sony console day 1 since ps2. This is the first time I can say I'm not sure if I'll jump day 1, and it has nothing to do with being digital only.

When the all digital future is all but locked in stone you look for the best place for digital content which is the PC. There is no competition there either.

If I were Sony, the only thing I would be paying attention to at the moment is pre-order / purchase numbers of digital only games, and whether these have been affected in any noticeable way.
I've always been Nintendo first, Playstation second.
With prices going up, no physical and far fewer exclusives and sequels being far to safe and similar (though I am looking forward to GOW3), I see little point in the PS6. With the Steam Machine as an option, and if it gets an upgrade in 2/3 years time then that would be perfect.
I recently inherent my dad's top shelf 5090 rig (RIP, dad ♥️)... Though my main platform has been PS for decades. I bought a PS5 Pro with disc drive due to a horrible sense of dread that it'd be the last PS with physical media. Guess I was correct.
I have a large collection on disc (lots of horror!) but also a decent-sized digital library so I'm not really sure what to do now. I can still play my games on the Pro - might as well use the 5090 beast as my platform for the next generation I guess 🤷 if it wasn't for recent developments, I'd have stuck with playstation. Especially sensible to skip the generation for me considering the current pricing too!
Though there's still a part of me that wants to see what new Sony hardware can do and some of the exclusive IPs are incredible (although many studios have declined in coolness drastically this past gen),
The price will be the main reason to no longer get consoles. Between that, the current backlog, and the fact they're still making PS4 & XBO versions of a lot of games, I don't see a reason to move to the next console Gen. It's not exactly like the AAA games that'll need it are exactly knocking it out of the park in terms of appeal for most either.

Again this comes down to communication, though, if Sony had come out and said how they're improving the PS Store, it might have gone a long way.
Although I suppose we should surmise from their silence they're not.
I choose to remain optimistic on that front, they must know they have work to do.
Yeah I am done with PS moving forward and it's not just one reason but if I have to say, it's just I don't like the current Sony, just another faceless corpo making terrible decisions blinded by the bottom line. If I am gonna end up in that kinda ecosystem anyway might as well go to the more flexible one.
That being said, I unfortunately can't really completely ditch PS altogether, atleast as long as it exists in the current form. I have a massive library so I will probably get a PS again whenever my current system dies but I am not gonna any new releases on PS anymore.

We have:
A bunch of people who two weeks ago were cheering because Sony had stopped selling their exclusives on PC.
A bunch of people who complained because they couldn't afford £2 a week to own a PS6.
A group of people who claim they can't afford to buy a game if they can't trade it in for £20 when done.
Since then, these desperately impoverished people have apparently:
1, suddenly discovered they are able to afford the significantly more expensive PC hardware required to outperform a PS5/Pro. Not just the PC, but in many cases the monitor, mouse, keyboard, desk, chair etc.
2, suddenly gained the technical knowledge to build a PC, or incur the massive premium of buying a pre-built with a PlayStation-beating spec.
3, Suddenly gained the technical knowledge to maintain that rig and deal with the issues.
4, suddenly don't care about the exclusives.
5, suddenly don't care about leaving their games library behind on PSN.
6, suddenly are happy to move to a digital only platform.
Which leaves the giant mystery of................
WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST GET A PC YEARS AGO

It's the person who says nothing who you need to worry about, because they don't gob off, they just do it.
Over the past week, I've seen a lot of gob. I don't think Sony will be shaking in their boots.
@RobN games are way cheaper on pc and you don’t pay to play online. I refuse to be ripped off by Sony just because it’s slightly more convenient.
I am considering it but I'm not commited yet. Firstly though, I will make my base ps5 last, hopefully at least 4-5 more years. I'm in no hurry to upgrade, not at all, only once games I want to play stop being made for it will I consider my options.
As for why I'm considering pc instead, well firstly playstation has lost its physical copies advantage, and digital games are usually cheaper on pc.
Secondly, Sony's first party just doesn't do it for me no more. My ps5 is basically a third party machine, maybe Astro Bot but that's about it. I think their multi gen promise of delivering the 'citizen kane' of gaming has fallen to the wayside in favour of live service games or story games that just don't feel like their trying to push narratives forward. They're all just samey, basic plots now.
And thirdly you can simple do more with PCs.
Already purchased a 5090 and 128 gigs of ram for ai. Gaming will be a bonus.
Loved my ps4 and enjoying my PS5. One of the joys was passing games onto my nephew. Now that feature has gone there is no point in next gen console. I’ve got a good backlog of games for my PS5 , so will keep those, my snes and my speccy 48k .
I already have a very good pc that I bought before the prices increased massively. I always bought physical games first on PS5 but since that's no longer going to be an option soon then I may aswell stick with pc since it's an open platform with better prices and more storefronts if I'm going digital only, other than the exclusives that come out once or twice per year there's not much reason for me to get a PS6 and I have a PS5 Pro for those games in the cross gen period. I will stay with that for a while, I don't need anything new for some time, I'll think about getting a PS6 once there's a number of exclusives I'd like to play.
Not in the slightest. I'm not on board with the decision to scrap physical games, I still buy them, I've signed petitions and voice my concerns on social media platforms like many have but I'm not about to throw my digital library away.
If I had any interest in keeping physical games I wouldn't go near PC as it's been a digital platform for 20 years or more. I also have no interest in playing games at ultra setting or using mods, it would be great to have other store front options in an all digital future but it's not a reason for me to leave.
We have five generations of PlayStation available to us. My backlog is vast. I will be playing PlayStation 1 - 5 games for years and years to come.
One of the reasons that I prefer console is couch gaming - I work from home, and gaming on my PC there would involve sitting at the same desk, typing on the same keyboard, looking at the same monitors - no thanks. I did that when I was into Eve Online, and I'm not doing it again.
With that being said - I have a PC hooked up to my TV. It autoloads into Big Box. It's nothing special - an old HP SFF office computer with some buffed up cooling and a graphics card. It handles emulation up to PS3 / 360 and ~2018 and before games reasonably well. It handles like a console.
I think digital games are cool. I prefer physical, but I have purchased my share of digital - just not at full price. I like selection and competition - GOG is my favorite. Steam is ok, Epic is... present. Then there's all of the various publisher storefronts and competing places to buy keys. The refund policies are more generous, and you're not locked into a single ecosystem. The advances in Linux are very encouraging.
Physical games are fun to collect. I like having games that hold value. It's why I still run a PlayStation. Without physical games? Now you're comparing one digital only environment to the other. There's no question - the PC is 1,000% better.

Already have a Switch 2 (mostly to play with my kids) and will strongly consider a handheld PC or something like a Steam Machine.
I’m really unhappy with Sony over eliminating physical games. Obviously not getting that on PC either, but not getting a PS6 is mostly due to not wanting to be locked into buying software off the Playstation Store. If I’m going to buy a system that locks me into one storefront, I need to have a lot of trust and goodwill built up with that provider and Sony is so far from that at this point. I don’t trust them to be the exclusive option to buy games from when they’re already showing questionable behavior like the experimenting with adaptive pricing, movies disappearing debacle and now the way they’re crushing physical media. I’ll miss the first party output if for sure if I pass on PS6 but even that isn’t as good it used to be.
Sold my PS5 Pro for a Nintendo Switch 2. Best decision ever. I will probably never touch a "next gen" PlayStation console. I will still play my PS1, PS3 and PS4 from time to time. (I need to find a new PS2 as mine just died recently).
I have a PS5 Pro, PS5 (gave it to my son), PS4 Pro, and a phat PS3 that yes, still works.
And I also have a high end PC, for both gaming and work.
Will never back down from owning both platforms as long as I can afford them.
I was buying PS consoles because of the exclusive games, but I'll have to reconsider that if prices go way over 1000$.
If somewhere in the future I'll be forced to choose, PC will come first, largest reason being it's versatility, that no (current) console can beat.
Not to mention Sony made a lot of bad decisions lately, so the scale starts to tip more and more away from them....
I don’t see myself going to PC but I wouldn’t mind having one if prices were to drop again sometime. I’d most likely buy the next PS but I won’t buy their games digital unless a game is less than £20 and I’d be very strict what I do buy.
I’m more likely to be a sub gamer and replay older physical games I’ve always wanted to go back and replay again. Digital buyers can fund the future projects while I enjoy what I have and whatever is on the sub. As long as third party games release physical on Nintendo, I’ll abandon PlayStation for that.
Also think these poll results and comments are pretty telling. There’s a lot of commenting that the people that are pissed about the elimination of discs are a tiny minority and don’t really matter, but I see no reason to believe that this site isn’t a representative sample of the hard core audience. It seems like a big chunk of that audience is really pissed off. That is going to have consequences.
There is no way I'm sticking around with PlayStation to see where dynamic pricing ends up going.
I'll get a PC eventually, way down the line in about 5 or so years when/if modern releases are enticing.
I wish it wasn't the case, but it's sad to see Sony go this way. I won't be continuing with them whatever I do if I'm trapped into paying £80+ a game. Their single player output has diminished this generation and I only see that getting worse with Sony chasing the live service dragon and many enthusiasts who mostly buy those games jumping ship. In a way Sony are engineering an excuse to stop making expensive single player games that don't bring in all the money, forever.
@get2sammyb maybe you should view it as the straw that broke the camels back! Ps5 generation has been a disaster, ps6 will be priced way too high for casual gamers, Sony exclusives are all very similar to ps4 games with very little risk being taken, ps plus is about to have a price increase, games will never get good discounts via the online store.
Short term outlay will be higher for a pc rig but over a 5-7 year period you’ll save a fortune by ditching ps plus and buying much cheaper games on steam.
The difference between console and pc used to be a huge difference. All things considered it’s now much much closer and quite possibly cheaper to go pc.

@Cjam36 mute data has leaked and most Sony first party aaa games sell about 50/50 split between disc and digital. Most people I know don’t buy games on release day since prices increased to £70, they wait a couple years and buy the game at cex for £20.

I have a PC as well for GOG, Steam and the freebies From Epic every week (which I’ve recently switched to Linux instead of Windows, but I digress), I am however a Mac user in every other respect.
If you have a half decent Mac, especially of the Apple Silicon variety, then a surprising amount of PC games run shockingly well using Crossover.
My M4 Pro manages pretty much every AAA game I throw at it, even my M1 Pro MacBook Pro can run a lot of games at an acceptable quality.
You may not want to faff with settings, that’s a personal choice, fair enough. But PC gaming is no longer off limits just because you prefer a Mac.

If the PS6 turns out to be as expensive as it’s expected to be (bloody AI) then it may well be the first console I pass on since the days of Pong TV games (yes my collection is huge and probably unnecessary by many people’s standards, but I’m a gamer first and foremost, I go where the games I want to play are, which usually means every system).
I’ve been quite disappointed with the exclusives situation on PS5 so far. Don’t get me wrong, Spidey is awesome, can’t wait for Wolverine, and so on. But compared to the relative output for every other generation, especially PS4, it’s just been a bit lacking.
Naturally budgets, development time and so on have played their part, but where’s a new Infamous, WipeOut, Resistance, Motorstorm, Killzone, god forbid an actual new TLoU instead of constantly remaking them, and so many more? Personal preference perhaps, but I doubt I’m alone.

And, while I have no explicit plans to start primarily gaming on PC, I wouldn't be surprised if that's where I end up in the future. Really? Cheaper games, free online, emulation and a more robust reliable place to build a digital library. That's not even going into price competition with different places to buy games. What's not to get? Come on Sammy, there's a whiff of copium going on here.
I know it may be an unpopular opinion but after I got my Steam Deck the only Playstation games I bought are the physical versions of Final Fantasy Rebirth and Resident Evil Requiem. I have also bought some digital PS1 classics. Steam is just cheaper and PC is much better for long term preservation. So I kind of already semi moved to PC. The only PS5 I see myself buying in the third part of FF7.
To be fair I travel a lot and having all games wver made in a PC handheld is very convenient.

I use the Nvidia app for my Nvidia GPU. It scans the PC, then gives you two options for each game it found.
1. Optimize- One button click, and boom, the settings are tuned specifically for your hardware. One button, that's it.
2. Auto Overclock/Tuning- A second button that will overclock the GPU for you. First time takes around 10 mins. After that, you do NOT have to touch anything else.
I know many here see me as a PC shill or whatever, but I just like ensuring people don't miss out. PC gaming has its pros n cons, but the constant tweaking is a think of the past.

Ive largely moved over + expanded my library to pc and that was thanks to the fact that games can be insanely cheap on there

I'm tempted to get a steam machine as my deck in docked mode doesn't cut it and I would like to have the option of mods, plus I already have a sizable library.
I expect my ps5 to last me well into the next gen if it's anything like the last cross gen period.
As for ps6, I will cross that bridge when I come to it, maybe I won't even be gaming by then.
The number of cool PC games which don't reach Playstation for years, if ever, is now huge. And mods have always been an immense selling point.
The thing that always prevented me, was I want to play with a controller, I don't want faff, and I liked Sony exclusives.
They're beginning to fix the controller and the faff. And nowadays you miss as much being on PS5 as you miss not being on it.
For a while though, I think I can just stick with a PS5 and wait for PC prices to eventually fall. I've barely felt the improvement of upgrading from PS4 and I rarely play cutting edge games now. The PS5 can last me many years
The only thing that bothers me is the games. If PS6 were to launch with an insane line up of games along the lines of a TLOU3/ GT8 & Bloodborne remake well… I’m not sure I could walk away from that truth be told but I’m still praying for a miracle and will not give up🙈. Argh Sony…fist…cloud…etc
There's a couple of main issues, one is what sort of PC can you get for the price of a console but also the problems with getting games running sometimes can be infuriating.
I also think PC hardware is less reliable than consoles based on my past experience.
I think the PC has always been the best platform because of its openness but it's not always the easiest when you just want to spend your free time playing games and not troubleshooting first.
Never been into PCs, actively despise Windows 11 and yet I’m heavily thinking about it, frankly if Xbox’ Helix delivers on being a hybrid PC/Console and has multiple storefronts that would make it more attractive than a PS6 for me, if Sony doesn’t improve anything on their digital marketplace I’m out long before they’ll be squizzing users when they operate as a monopoly.

Try Linux, there’s lots of great Distros for gaming out there. Bazzite, Catchy and more. As well as the official Steam OS, which is pretty decent if I’m honest and definitely better than Windows in many respects.

I built mine fall 2023. The Gigabyte RTX 4060ti 16gb OC, is still a beast. 1440 native, NO UPSCALING, I get 95 avg FPS. That's a two year old card as of this month.
The nearly 6 year old 6600xt can achieve 80 avg with 1080p set. A person doesn't have to dump thousands into a system anymore, or even upgrade for years at a time.
I do hope consoles in general get sorted. I like that people have the option to avoid PC if they want.
I'd been a PC gamer for 20+ years before switching to consoles during the PS3 gen. I know PCs have changed a lot since then (I work in software so I use them every day) but I just can't be bothered to use them for gaming.
Also, all my home computers are Macs so I'm not looking to add another one just for games.
If I had to go PC, it would be on Linux - luckily gaming on it has improved a lot. Not touching Windows with a 10 foot pole.
I really like the PS5 and use it for most of my gaming in the lounge. I do use a PC for games - but mostly play older games and ones not on the PS5. I can stream to the TV using a Steam link but it’s not as good an experience as the PS5 due to the limitations of that device. I got a new PC last year but it is mostly a work machine. I have always had a PC since 1998 but not always a beefy gaming rig. I also have a switch but that is pretty much only for Nintendo games. Really showing its age tho so keen on a Switch 2 next year!
I’d likely keep the PS5 for a good while yet as have tons of games in the backlog!
Not bothered in the slightest about no discs , think I've bought one this generation.
I have a Steamdeck since launch and got to be honest PC gaming is really disappointing, you have only got to look on the Steam store to see that it's still selling stuff like Half Life , Witcher 3, Garry's Mod , Dirt Rally , Bioshock , DOOM .all the classics from late PS3 early PS4 era . Basically ancient games and even if you have a newer game then chances are your PC is not going to run it without graphical compromises. Oh yea and the rampant cheating. They have got Tarkov though which looks great.
I might not game on pc (though a steamdeck is quite tempting) but I won’t buy a ps6 if there’s only the PS store with their monopoly.
I have a switch 2 which is actually getting good 3rd party support for some games so that’s probably where I’ll be. Though I also have a massive backlog on PS and will buy physical games I’ve missed like mafia old country to keep me going.
I don’t get through many games these days so both of the above will keep me going for years.
I have nothing against pc gaming I used to have gaming pc’s 20+ years ago but just preferred the simplicity of consoles.

@Stwert Yeah it's true that Mac is getting a lot better, especially with that Metal translation thing, though you're still hard pressed to find games that run natively. As @11001100110zero said, I'm also sure that tweaking settings is easier than it used to be. I did basically just ask ChatGPT how to get the most out of Witcher 2 on my Mac and it did help a lot.
Mostly, I just prefer consoles because I prefer the plug-and-play aspect and playing on a couch with my big ol TV.

In early 2022 I moved to PC, because with the exception of Nintendo games everything was available there or would be at some point. So since then I've been on PC and Switch/Switch 2. Plus I liked the idea of not being locked into one storefront and being able to shop around between Steam, Epic and GOG (as well as deep discounts on sites like Loaded).
Of course, since then Sony has stopped doing PC ports of its single player games, so I'm out of luck there. I've enjoyed the ones I've played (and still have a good few left to play) and will miss them, but I'll live.
Physical games are one of the main reason I like consoles. Without, that's one less reason to not get a PC.

I’ve had PlayStation since PS1 (my first system was a secondhand Commodore 64 and, thanks to two brothers, I’ve had all Nintendo, SEGA, and Xbox consoles too (well, only the original XBox and 360). Basically I’m system agnostic but have mained PlayStation most of the time and never had a true gaming PC.
I’ll probably get one once I’m finished with PS5 though. Partly because I don’t believe they’ll allow the same refund policies as Steam, nor as low prices, but mainly because their first party games bore me now and they’ve pretty much abandoned PSVR2. Much more choice on PC, including far more VR games, plus cheaper prices, makes it a pretty each choice now I’ve actually been forced to think about it.
I think there are a lot of people like me who just really haven’t had a reason to consider leaving the PlayStation ecosystem until this gen (well, I did during the 2018 censorship run, but not enough given my investment up to that point).
Thinking of that, I wonder how much my PS Account is worth with its uninterrupted PS Plus run from the end of the PS3 era…)
I do think those that want to jump on PC are really missing the point of all this. It's not that physical games are inherently better. Nor that PC store fronts are objectively better. It's that we still don't have the legal precedent to protect our digital purchases.
That's what we should all be grumbling about. And it's a long time coming, encompassing basically every entertainment industry.
@get2sammyb they've got a lot of work to do on the store and even less incentive to do it. They don't need to provide convenience or good prices to the consumers if the consumer literally cannot purchase games by other means.
We are starting at the best case scenario: pre-monopoly - a bad store and games that are significantly more expensive than the second hand market.
The idea that it's going to get better post-monopoly is going against everything we know about how large corporations behave.
If there was any generation to make their store better, it was this one. Every person they convinced to buy digital instead of physical this generation was a large profit saving for them. It also furthered their long term goals of switching to digital only.
I am actually now thinking of buying a PS5 Pro, which I never thought I needed thus far, to keep the current gen as long as possible. No way I can see myself investing in a digital only PS6.
Then I have literally dozens of older consoles and thousands of games I ve never even had the time to sample. I have all of Analogue's systems minus the NES and they're all equipped with their everdrives and complete collections loaded. I am 46, so I still might run out of time to finish all these games, but I will die happy in the knowledge that my children will be able to enjoy these games whenever they want.

And you got DRM free games on Steam and all of GOG. You buy them, they're yours.
In all honesty, I'm less bothered if the PS6 is digital-only, as I buy more and more games digitally these days. What concerns me more is my PS4 collection and my 20+ PS5 games (all first-party). If I can't play those, I'm genuinely thinking of leaving PlayStation.

I do not see an issue with all digital now. I have been buying digital releases for quite a while on both Steam and PS. There are some issues that I do not like but let's see how they play out as Sony wants to milk players so higher PS Plus prices, worse catalog selection and poorer discounts - this is what bothers me.
Nah, im of the master race bloodline so I have both. And a switch, too. Gotta find a way to snag a Switch 2 for a deal because **** paying that price, the PS5 was already overpriced enough; not paying that much for a handheld/hybrid.
No, the price of PC components is far too high now to even consider it, even if steam sales prices are lower than PSN, it doesn't make up the difference. The price of a midrange video card cost as much if not more than an actual console and that's not counting the ram and m2 drives whose prices have skyrocketed recently. I will stick with the PS6.
Was a PC gamer for decades. Finally got tired of the crappy games and the need to sit at a desk like a dork playing with a 16-button mouse and a clicky keyboard. Ditched that for Xbox and now PlayStation about the time I traded plastic baby computers (Windows PCs) for the creative working man's MacBook Pro. There's no way in heck I'd go back.

This is it, it’s the accumulation of everything. I’ve bought every PS3 console so far and between their hugely disappointing output this generation, price rises, and determined move to give me less choice and less for my money as a consumer in the future, I see absolutely nothing pushing me to buy another one.
@K-Wud the casual consumer likely wont do anything. The casual consumer isn’t invested and doesn’t care about physical going away, studios closing, lack of first party titles - they don’t pay attention at all.
Not defending Sony - but In the end gaming has become such a mainstream form of entertainment. And most casual gamers play on their couch and don’t want to mess with a PC
Leave an all digital system... for an all digital system. I get the outrage, I like a physical game too but jumping to a PC wont remedy that.
Comments about having more ownership on PC aside, the claim "stuck with PS store" is also jumping the gun a bit.... To paraphrase Sony's statement "[games] will be available via retailers digitally." Which implies that PS Store will not be the only option to buy games. So would be better to understand more about their plans rather than a knee jerk reaction.
I'll probably stay with my ps5 Pro. The only reason I'd consider returning to pc gaming is simply because there are more racing sims on there and a lot more of them are VR enabled. I can use my psvr2 on a PC but I'd have to purchase an adapter to play. I could never leave GT7 as with my T598,ps5 Pro and psvr2 it's just one of those things that's never going to get boring. I would like to play dirt rally 2.0 and assetto corsa rally in VR and seeing as it's probably never going to happen on the ps5 Pro it really does make me ponder on whether or not to have a gaming pc and a ps5 Pro. It's a tough question for me to answer. Let's see what happens with the ps6.

@Anthony_Daniels you’ve sort of missed the point. If PS is all digital Sony have a monopoly on pricing being the sole marketplace on the platform. On pc there are numerous storefronts competing and lowering prices. They also have more favourable terms.
So yes in an all digital world it does make sense to game on pc.

People will say I’m hypocritical but the fact is that Xbox has been more gamer centric than Sony for years. Also, there’s the rumoured disc to digital program, superior customer service, unrivalled ecosystem on consoles at least and an increase in exclusive games.
PC has its perks but you will to spend even more money than on console just to have a good enough PC to run games at above average settings which is not something I am interested for a pastime.
Regardless of my personal take, players will certainly be leaving PlayStation over this.

I collect physical Media why would I switch to PC that is digital only.
I bought a PS5 Pro when they came out, and the rising costs of computer parts are not making the idea of switching very palatable. Regardless of the brain-dead decisions to end their older online storefronts as we head into 2027, and the end of their physical media production in 2028, I think a lot of us are stuck where we are, simply because we're being priced out of having the ability to make a change. We'll see what things look like when the PS6 gets closer and actually exists, but as of right now, it's hard to think about moving away from PS when there's really nowhere to go, and honestly, not a lot of incentive when half my games are PS5 disks.
The PS6 will be very expensive. The Portable PS6 will also be expensive. Sony will wall up their Garden and PSN Store will be your main option for games. PSN is not particularly good or safe and has terrible consumer protections. PS Plus is required to play online (and an upgraded version is required to trial some games). PS Plus costs $80/year right now. But Sony will raise that price. In the past, when Sony raised the price of PS Plus I don't remember it improving in any way. Sony is not releasing exclusives very quickly. The money they invest in Live Service games will naturally be on PC as well since they require a large audience.
PC is high cost but kind of a pain at times. Has at least 3 places competing to sell you games (Steam, Epic and GOG). NO charge to play online. No subscriptions necessary for game trials. Much better customer service and protections (at least on Steam). Will probably have Microsoft "exclusives."
Compare the value proposition of a Nintendo Switch 2 vs. A PS6 and Portable PS6. Compare the graphics/performance, cost and utility of features. Compare exclusives and cost to buy products for the 2 different platform ecosystems.
For me, a Switch 2 will be in my future. I strongly suspect that a PC may be as well.
I already did 8 years ago and never looked back. Didn’t buy a PS5 but have bought many of the games Sony released on PC. If I’d known how good Returnal was and it didn’t come to PC, I may have bought a PS5 just to play that.

A LOT of people will stick with current gen if the next gen continues to have diminishing returns on graphic improvements and innovations.
Same or similar games that look about the same and play about the same won't entice people to buy a $1000+ system.
If most of their money is made from live service games that are already on a PS5, how many of those players will want to upgrade to PS6? If the games they love aren't upgrading $1000+ worth for the next gen, then they won't.
Why would a company like Epic bother making a drastically improved version of Fortnite for PS6 when they make the same amount of money without doing that?

I think the straw that broke the camels back is more accurate than people just being angry. If cancelling physical was a shock announcement among a slew of positive news and good moves I’m not sure it would have had the same impact.
But the optics of that announcement at the same time as shutting the PS3 and Vita stores down is a clear indication of a company that doesn’t think it has to try to keep customers sweet anymore.
They’re arrogantly complacent that they’re the only game in town and customers will have to hand over the money for their product no matter what. I’ve been a PlayStation owner since January 1996 and for me it’s the sad acceptance that the company I knew from the PS1 days or the PS4 era is long gone. The only way to correct overpowering corporate arrogance is for them to see the results in their sales.

I bought a high end back in 2022, 4 years later and still don't have to upgrade and have saved more money than i've spent. between the multiple storefronts offering very cheap deals, free online, and emulation - i don't see how PC is costly. you pay the big bucks initially for long term savings and benefits. meanwhile when next gen consoles release, people will be dropping over a thousand dollars while someone that already invested in pc long ago can just buy a couple of parts for less than a console that will outperform said console
@arto none of that has to do with the hardware itself. the ps3 was worth its price and they were selling it a loss, regardless of their hubris. this generation is far worse. the ps5 is not cutting edge - never was, and is more costly than the ps3 + paid online.
Been on console since I first played small soldiers and spyro in my cousins house until we got our own PS1.

If its a digital future, may as well be on PC where theres more choice, security and price options.

I bought a steam deck just before the price hike to dip my toe into pc gaming. And its honestly a very console like experience.
And buying games for €2 or being able to pick up the OG Prince of Persia thats just there in the steam store after the news the remake was cancelled was a nice feeling (less that €5 no less).
So unless Sony reverses their decision and allows discs or comes up with some sort of change to ownership on digital, I'll be moving to a more secure digital platform. And I was hyped as anything for the PS6 and its handheld companion.

To me PC = work and its very important et keep it that way.
Plus i enjoy gaming on my couch while talking to my family, and i do like consoles, its like its own little world made just for games.

The earth has been spinning around the sun for 4.5 billion years, and I can tell you for sure it will keep doing just that if I don't buy a PS6 or GTA 6.
There are other ways and other places I can spend my money to enjoy gaming.
My only reason for remaining on console was physical media. My PC outshines my PS5 in every metric available. If I'm going to be forced to go all digital I would rather do it on PC where the ecosystem is open, where I have a choice in where I get my games. I'll probably put any PS6 money I would've saved towards PC upgrades.
Any exclusives I miss I'll probably just watch someone else play or pick up a second-hand PS6 in ten years and a month of PS+ to blast through them before reselling the already second-hand console.
Both PC and PS6 for me. PS6 for the PS exclusives and PC for all Xbox "exclusives" and all multi-platform games. Win win for me. The next Xbox console is useless for me.

Not ashamed to say at all I'll be getting a PS6 but nowhere near as early as I did with other PlayStations, a far more cautious approach is required far more than before just incase they do other things with PS6 I dont like. As someone who really likes physical media even music cds still and stuff like physical 4K movies I just can't see myself leaving Playstation anytime soon. I have about 30 years gaming with Playstations and I'm not about to get rid of those fun gaming memories and moments with the click of the finger just like that, no chance. Maybe give up my yearly PS Plus Essential yes, until they do something but it's looking like they won't do much if anything at all about it
I already left PC long time ago and one of the biggst reasons was because it doesn't have physical copy anymore. I'm not going back to PC and not gonna buy PS6 too.
So, i'll stick with what i owned (PS3-5, Vita, and 3DS) but i will buy a couple of retro consoles. I already checked my marketplace for og PS2, Sega MD model 1 / 2, and GBA SP which luckily all of them are available in a very affordable price.
Sony doesn't want nor need money from a longtime fans like me anymore. So i'm happy to spend it for other products.

I'm never going back to pc gaming. I have a big library of PS4/PS5 games and will be growing that library more anytime there a game i want. I'm not letting PC gamers dictate or bully me into where I game.
And I got a Switch 2 so I can wash my hands 100% of pc gaming because without a good wifi & internet the PS portal is useless.
So yes the Ally & Xbox Ally X will never be turned on agian.
I do wish they would find a way to get the PS6 to run PS3 games.

Definitely with you there, the simple straightforward nature of consoles, along with the games of course, are why I’ve always had all of them.
PC gaming is getting easier to live with for those who prefer the simplicity of a console, particularly with Steam OS or any number of other excellent distros.
It is possibly for those who don’t care, don’t want to, or are new to it all, to just boot up, download a game and play without any faff…..

And in countries with low income it is the way that people interact with games (my own country included).
One of the main reasons I picked up a PS5 early in is because it was compatible with PS4 games - I had games to play while waiting on next gen games! How would that work on a PS6 with my physical games if there's no drive? I think that's a big question Sony should answer. For reference, I can still play steam games I bought back in the early 2000s on my current pc.
The only mainstream modern gaming system that I don't have is an Xbox. Two 360s with RROD burned me from them forever.
PC prices have got more expensive as well but they have far more competive store prices on games than what a single PS store would potentially does and have. Money is obviously king with any company like Playstation but can anyone see them doing competive genuine deals on digital games on their PS store for PS6, I doubt it?
Yeah, I'm changing my habits a lot. I've actually unplugged my PS5 today as I'll be waiting/hoping that jailbreak catches up to my OS version and I can then use it as a sort of Steam Machine on my TV.
My backlog is almost 100 games deep. I'm happy to work through that for the foreseeable future.
Also I owned a PC years ago and was left frustrated with having to check specs on a new game each time it came out just to see if it would run.
No. PS Studios games are still great and the performance I've gotten from my 3080Ti rig (which I built for Starfield, lmao) for games like Elden Ring and MH Wilds has been really disappointing.

I recently bought a high end PC, so I'm not troubled by minimum specs etc but I can see why that is a bit of pain for others on older PC's.
I am quite happy with the performance of the PS5, it's the Sony management that are making me thinking about moving away from Playstation.
I have been a Playstion Plus premium subscriber for over 2 years, no cancellations, but honestly I have had enough, Sony are showing just how greedy that are, an anlogy for me is football, football fans are being pushed aside for profit, pure and simple.
Leaving Sony because they went digital for a pc that's been digital for as long as I can remember.
Make that make sense to me.
I'm not giving up my playstation library to have to rebuild games on steam on a pc that's gonna cost at least double the price of my ps5 that's crazy to someone who knows the value of money
I'm currently checking which games I have installed from Playstation plus, in all honesty I think it's pretty decent value for money most of the time and that is Sony's biggest money maker so...
Anyways, I plan to delete them and un-subscribe, as for the PS6 is it worth whatever it releases for, if it's $1,000 then so be it (IPhone costs more), it might be worth it and I'm sure many will but it but I won't be one of them.

Personally speaking, I am far too invested in the Playstation Ecosystem. I would have to start all over on PC, and I don't really want to do that. I will stick with Playstation until the very end because they have the games I want the most.
Courtesy of Deck, I prioritize "PC" over PS4 as it is, but exclusives or region-locked AND server-tied stuff (as well as sideloads that inexplicably refused to work on Deck) remain and, barring eventual hybrid ports, will remain on PS4. Where applicable, Switch and Switch 2 uber alles anyway.
PS6? The lack of physical media wouldn't deter a digital buyer like myself, but the home console format is expected to - just as it did with PS5. If pigs take to the sky in flocks and PS6 really turns out to be a portable, getting it will be a matter of time for me, but I certainly won't have a grand to cough up for it on the spot.
I've been saying for a while now that the future of gaming rests on the PC. It is more friendly to indie devs, allows for a greater variety of games, and has more frequent sales on all kinds of games. The mods are great too. Having done much of gaming on PC in early 2010s, I found the library to be so far and above anything on console. However, I hate fiddling with settings, drivers, etc., which is why I switched back to console. Looks like I'll be switching back to PC this next gen because there is no way in hell I'll $1000+ for console. No effing way.

I’m waiting to see if Sony does literally anything to even try to appease the hardcore. If they literally make no effort whatsoever, I can see myself migrating my 3rd party gaming to pc while eventually picking up a PS6 once enough exclusives pile up. I’m no fanboy; they F*d themselves and burned through 100% of my goodwill with their disgusting anti consumer arrogant greed, but the exclusives are worth playing—under the right circumstances. If they continue to present as arrogant scum, I’ll drop them like the cancer they are and just pirate whatever I can from their catalogue.
This article sums up a lot of my thinking about moving back to PC. I originally moved to console because I got fed up with all the mucking about that came with PC and the constant arms race of upgrading your system, drivers, GPU etc. However, with the advent of internet connectivity on consoles a lot of the advantages of those systems have slowly evaporated.
I got a Steam Deck earlier in the year (before the price hike, thankfully) and I am extremely impressed with it. Valve's Proton etc defangs a lot of the inconvenience of getting games to work and offers a ton of versatility. Online play is free. Cloud saves are free. You can install mods. PS3/360 era games are readily available at silly prices (no superseded storefronts closing here) and run at better frame rates than they ever did on console. It's just so danged convenient.
I'm seriously thinking about saving for a Steam Machine at this point. If it's all going to be digital anyway, I think that Valve's open approach is a better place to be than Sony's walled garden.
(And yes, I'm aware Valve is not the benevolent messiah of gaming and are out to make a buck like all the rest. Don't bother coming at me. Cheers.)
most people already need access to a pc anyways... so instead of buying a machine only capable of working with spreadsheets and sending emails, they may invest in a more powerful system that can also do moderate gaming (most people don't need cutting edge specs; medium graphics settings will suffice). the total pricetag for such a pc will be less than investing in a ps6 + underpowered laptop. might as well kill 2 birds with one stone and take the pc route.
at this point, i don't even want to support sony so it has become more than just finding financial reasons to justify my decision to jump ship. forget the physical media discussion for a moment... if sony no longer publishes games that i am interested in playing (there hasn't been a single 1st party game over the past 5 years in fact), the software exclusivity aspect of its ecosystem is no longer a selling point. what else is there to entice me other than nostalgia and tradition? absolutely nothing. i'll be gaming on my ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4, vita and psp until the very end... those are among the greatest consoles of all time and can keep me busy for the rest of my life. i saw no reason to invest in a ps5 and the ps6 will be no different. sony had already peaked with the ps4 and it will all be downhill from here on out.
I'll never go to PC. It's more expensive, full of hackers and every other game has serious performance/optimization issues and stutter. The only way PC ends up being cheaper is if you Pirate all your games.

@get2sammyb Just in case it hasn't already been mentioned above, another advantage of PC gaming is no online subscription fees. That itself equates to around the price of a console itself over the course of a generation (before all the recent madness with prices these last few years anyway!)

I'm seriously considering going back to PC. My PlayStation backlog is humongous, and Sony have been taking the piss for far too long. For the price of a PS6 I can throw together a decent PC, if I'm really smart and recycle some components I could sell my PS5 tomorrow and get a semi decent GPU with the funds. I'd be gaming by dinner time.
I'd never leave playstation, and in regards to ps6 I would just wait for a decent price.. no rush to upgrade.

Pc became my main platform about 5 years ago and it was worth it. I still bought an xbox and ps5 as supplemental systems but now that consoles are $1000, it just simply isn't happening. Goodbye playstation.
I've more or less left the Playstation behind as it is. The last time my PS5 got any serious playtime was when FFVII:Rebirth released, and I expect the next game that'll inspire me to fire it up is the new God of War next year. Almost every other game I've wanted to play this gen has been available both cheaper and better presented on PC. But I'll admit that the collector in me has purchased a quite few games as physical memorabilia of games I've enjoyed on Steam.
A lot of people are fine with all-digital, but as long as Sony is the only one running a storefront on the hardware, I just can't get on board. Without retailers as viable competition, they're more free to push us into the $100+ per game future they obviously want. There will be fewer and/or more shallow sales (because who are they competing against, really?) and every cent they save on distribution and disk-manufacturing is only going to their own coffers. In short, I don't think this is good for digital-only customers either in the long run.
And I'll happily say that in comment-sections like this, but I'm not signing petitions to make them change their mind, or threatening boycotts. They knew how my particular subset of gamers would feel about this, and they did it anyway. So I'm not giving them warnings here - I'm just out.
It's not just about physical media, that may have kicked off so many of these debates but personally I think it's more about the frustration with the way things are in the world of Sony just now, not just Sony, Microsoft and maybe to a lesser extent Nintendo as well.
Anyway, I have 103 games stored on my PS5 Pro (And extended storage for PS4 games), 22 of which come from PS Plus, for which I currently pay £39.99 every quarter (Uk).
I figure I have enough of a backlog without PS Plus so time to say goodbye.
And just to mention I bought an "optional" bluray drive for my PS5 Pro, strangely Sony are apparently limiting these to 1 per customer just now, strange seeing the future is digital.

@dskatter same here, I didn’t vote in either poll because my situation was not described. I’ll stick to my OG PS5 and play the massive number of PS4/PS5 games I haven’t gotten to play yet. There are so many already out there, I don’t need to “move” to anything. Way I see it is I can easily run this thing for at least a decade, as long as the damn thing stays together. I’m perfectly satisfied with it.
I will stick with all 3 consoles. Xbox as my main, Switch and PS6 for exclusives. I’ve been doing that for 3 generations now and it works for me. Now i might wait longer to get a PS6 cause PS4 and PS5 haven’t given me the titles i care most for on PS. But i will still get it at some point. Xbox and Switch are day one’s for me. PC i could build one just to tinker with but i would wait for Ram and SSD’s to come back to earth price wise.
Capactors will be the next RAM. They want to move people to cloud computing eventually so PC prices will continue to soar so the loss of physical console ganes will be the least of it. We wont even be able to own our own files
For me, having that physical presence is one of the major draws for a PlayStation over PC. It’s the console experience.
I moved from my gaming PC to a PS5 Pro, and I buy most of my games physically, because I love the look of having the physicals on my shelf, as well as the ritual of putting the game disc in before a solid gaming session. The same reason I buy vinyl records: to respect the art and give it my undivided attention.
I already think it’s awful that most discs operate as glorified digital codes; but, for me, it is still a major advantage over my steam library to have the game disc in a case on my shelf.
If you remove physical capability from the PS6, then none of my PS5 library will transfer over, and it would be forfeiting that advantage over my Gaming Rig.
In a world where the PS6 and its ecosystem stand on a level playing field with PC gaming and its entire, open ecosystem, I think PlayStation loses.
Instead of dropping $1000 on a PS6, why shouldn’t I just invest that same money in upgrading my already built Rig?

If both platforms are digital only, what good reason do you have to pick the one that restricts your purchases to a single monopolized storefront with terrible service, terrible security, PAID access to online multi-player, and precedent that Sony could just take your purchase away from you at anytime for any reason.

Already built an AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3d with 32gbddr5 and a 4070 3 ish years ago. Yes it's old for some now but will still play anything. Crimson Desert is amazing on it and shows ps controls with a dual sense edge controller. That and 34" ultra wide 1440p monitor and I'm a happy chap. Some will call it a cheap rig but I don't fancy buying the parts now. 🤣🤣
And I think it will keep pace for a few years yet.

I was a console gamer growing up (1990s teenager) and then I got into MMOs in 2001, resulting in about 16 years of only PC gaming. When MMOs lost their grip on me around 2018, I bought a PS4 Pro and started building my PlayStation library. Now I have zero interest in returning to PC. My PS5 Pro and Switch 2 fill my gaming needs.

Have you guys ever think if ps6 is $1000, then how much will be a gaming pc? I bought my alienware before RAM crisis on a good EOFY deal for $2700. Do you have any idea how much it'll cost in 2029? It's going to be atleast $3000, so a ps6 with online fees will be still a wiser choice... think about it friends before clicking the most emotional options

I already have a pc , though I am planning in building a next gen pc towards the end of 2027. Fortunately im in a decent paying job so I can afford the ps6 no problem. Though its probably not a priority for me, due it going fully digital. Have plenty of games in my backlog, so will probably wait for the inevitable ps6 pro
@GamingGod games mostly cost the same on psn and steam, tho sales might now be at the exact same time. The new bond game is slightly cheaper on psn than steam in my region. I changed from pc to ps5 pro a year ago and it has been so nice not having to deal with shader compilation stutter and other annoyances.

It's pretty rare that I find myself buying a Playstation game anymore. Black Flag Resynced and GTA VI are my only must-have Playstation games I see myself buying this year. If a PS6 is going to be a thousand or more, I hope the third game in the Horizon Zero Dawn series is on the PS5.
@FxTANK No the cost of cpu will rise first before the Capactors and professional network gear going to go up in price. I wouldn't doubt cat 8 cables going up in cost but homes only use up to cat 7 cables.
I have a decent pc with a 4070 super but even then, I prefer to play on my PS5 more. Unless it's RTS games, then I play those on PC.
Personally, I've only been buying digital for the last 4+ years so I'll still be gaming on Playstation.

Everyone knows Sonys first party output has been poor this gen but with them saying they want to double down on live service and big franchises that doesn’t excite me for the future. I like their big games but I don’t just want to play GoW 4, 5, 6, 7 and Spider-Man 3, 4, 5, 6 over the coming years.
They’ve said they want to release one big SP game a year and they probably will but compared to the Sony of the past that’s really poor.
Couple that with a tone def relationship with their fanbase, no physical games, an monopolised digital marketplace, executives I have no faith in means one foot is already out of the door in my case. I’ll keep my pro and buy as many physical games as possible but that’s where it’ll end.
I voted considering PC, mainly due to console prices. The value proposition for a $1,000 PS6 just isn't there for me. I'm primarily a Nintendo player, and the base PS5 was my first Sony console. I've built up a decent library of (mostly) physical PS4/PS5 hits, which I enjoy if/when I have time. The PS Portal helps when the big TV is in use by others.
I've also had a PC in my household for 40+ years, so when my current one gets slow, I'll upgrade it regardless. If Sony wants me to drop a grand on an all-digital machine, they need 95+ scoring GOTY titles on day one to get me to move. Otherwise, I'm perfectly content sticking to my backlog and Nintendo. I don't care for frame rates and detailed hair or shadows.
I already game on both, PC mainly for the Mods and the forever games I enjoy do benefit greatly from player created content. I'll buy day one simply because I can, if I couldn't then I wouldn't. I do buy physical to preserve but that goes for retro too so I'll just redirect my efforts to even more retro games. I'm not giving up on a brand that gave me my start in gaming, even-though I don't agree with the direction they've decided to go but life is short and I game for fun, I'll continue to do that regardless of the outcome. Gaming gives me something that none of my other hobbies do, I can't put a price on that. But I understand that others can and do.
@wildcat_kickz PC is much easier to tinker with than what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. It is not much different than playing a game on console.

@LogicStrikesAgain to be fair I was looking at building a PC recently. A ps5 pro is 1200aud. I had a PC pudget of 2k and was going to be able to build a 9070xt pc. Except ram prices ruined my dream. Hopefully ram prices drop by 2028. Not paying for online would definitely add up.
Probably just quitting modern gaming in general and sticking with the older classics. Gaming is just becoming more expensive, disappointing and depressing every year. Paying more and owning less just isn't for me.
@Sergo I used to PC game but now I play on my ps5 pro. Mainly because I like kicking it on the couch. Biggest things is PC doesnt play nice with theatre set ups. But with Xbox overlay and helix maybe being a full PC console PC will probably be plug and play by 2028.
@Anthony_Daniels You're missing the point. PC has several game stores creating competition, unlike Sony which will have complete price control on its platform.
I'd consider the PS6 if it accepts alternative stores like GOG, which is DRM free (download the game, keep it on a hard drive and play it on any device, whenever you want, even if the store closes). But Sony only wants full control and is counting on fanatics and other people who are loyal to a brand which treats it's clients like crap.
@Rhaoulos Prices are set by the game developer/publisher on digital stores, so the idea that several websites selling the same game at the same publisher set price is competition continues to be nonsense. The actual competition is other games, which applies to PSN as much as any other digital store.
I've been am avid PC player for a while now. The PS5 is my first console since having the PS2. I have been enjoying both for a while now.

PC is absolutely the future. Steam machine really could be the bridge people are needing. Until then, I know consoles are good enough for the masses.
I've always been a multiplatform gamer, owning all consoles and pc. The value has constantly been lowering and its hard to justify even now.
With Sony going 1k+ and sharma at Xbox going for quick bucks, I am likely down to 2 platforms next Gen. PC and Nintendo. I have an Xbox ally x which is easily my go to, being easy to use and powerful enough to enjoy. That said, PCs are still not ideal for the living room tvs. They use kb + mouse and no hdmi-cec. Additionally, consoles were always meant to be affordable, they are not anymore.
I returned to PC gaming, back in 2015 (after a 3 year break), and only use consoles for their exclusives.
From now on, PC and Switch 2, is the only thing I need. Wolverine is the last PS game, I wanna try, but after that, I'm done.
Nope. I'm sticking with PS. I was already all-in on digital this gen anyway. I've been a physical game owner since the NES, but I've ran out of room for physical games and when the PS5 digital console was cheaper that the disc drive version, I decided to go on and start heading in that digital direction. So this digital move PS is making is no skin off my back. Figured this would be coming.

It's Sony's fault for making the brilliant GT7 and PSVR2 that I'm considering moving to pc.
I've now fallen in love with VR SIM racing there's so many games of this type available on PC.
The only thing that will make me buy PS6 is GT8 with improved VR.

I votes for not sure. I already have ps1 through 5, and every Nintendo and Sega console. I have the extreme luxury to just not get anything. There's a lot of games that look interesting, but I don't really play newer stuff. Games are way too big now. Make smaller games and maybe yall wouldn't be bleeding out....The only "must" this generation was RE Requiem, but I could have played it on Switch. There is a solid 30 years of games that most of us have played 1 percent of. A $100 handheld emulator can hold a lifetime of games, with no additional purchase necessary!
As I said in another article I have 0 desire to be in a closed ecosystem console with no competition for it's store. I loved playstation, but at this point I have enough playstation content to last a life time.
I’m thinking amount it. If my 2024 self saw me say this, then he’d blow his lid, but I’ve started to think seriously about it after the last few PlayStation debacles. Closing BluePoint and killing physical games are the things that have stung the most.
Considering PC feels dirty, but I’m now open more and more. And this from me, the PlayStation apologist extraordinaire.
Honestly, what might happen is I just stick with my PS5 Pro for several more years. I have an enormous backlog, and I will have the freedom and choice to peck away at that backlog (which will include many more games over the next year and a half) with both discs and digital libraries. There’s so many good games on my list right now, it should carry me for 4-5 more years easily. By then I can circle back and play the classics again. My PS5 can likely take me to the grave.

@BIG3 personally the same. I'll likely keep PS5 for the unmissable game that never comes to PC and is like 60-75% off on PSN then I'll bite.
Otherwise Switch 2 primarily and Gamefly-ing what I can for PS5/Series X until they are physically done. If Helix can do something good physical maybe but feels like Xbox is going back to pre Halo/Gears/Forza headcount so who knows how many games will even release moving forward.

I choose answer E: ride off into the sunset with my backlog of 2000+ retro and modern physical games plus about 1000 digital purchases - with both middle fingers in the air toward the whole industry. Nobody - Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, or PC - has anything to offer me, and I mean that wholeheartedly.

Got every Playstation since the first but spending £1000+ on the PS6 or a PC in general will have me just stick to PS5 for as long as possible.
I don't expect many PS6 exclusives for the first 5 years anyway like this generation did. Heck games still come out for PS4 even now.
I've already switched to PC because one of the reasons was ps plus for online games and I didn't wanna subscribe to anything. And if I do get a next gen console, It has to support physical games. Coz if I'm buying digital games, I'd prefer it on PC.
I already own both, the PlayStation is for exclusives and single player games. I'll probably work on my backlog and skip PS6 altogether as I do like collecting physically for PlayStation.
I really dont understand why people support Steam... its just as bad if not worse... you need internet to verify your account from time to time, and if the steam client doesnt works youre screwed. Further they can also take stuff away... Unless youre using GoG or something similar PC is just as bad! I will be leaving PS but never going to PC!
I am not going to waste my precious time updating/tweaking/troubleshooting graphics drivers and OS. Not to mention, silly amount of graphics options in PC versions. I am software engineer but I like KISS nature of consoles.

Gog really is the only way to 100% own your games, and not have them yanked away. For myself and others, the PC appeal is so much more than just cheaper games. The free online of course, but the mods... My god, the mods.
Ghost of Tsushima for example, has a ton available. Want to ADD in Raytracing? Boom, done, free.
Want to morph it in Stereoscopic 3D, for VR? Done. For me personally it's all the added things the communities make happen. Playing any game I want, in "VR" 3D, with better lighting than even Sucker Punch can do, is simply incredible.
Want your audio to be more authentic? Want the piss filter removed from some games? I like buying the product, and make it a what I wanted. It's like buying a car (the game), and then tuning it.
I only consider just being a Switch 2 main. I like both consoles, but enjoy AAA Games less and less, I can see myself being content with Nintendo exclusives and the countless fantastic indies.
I'm happy with my base PS5 thank you. I will stay on that until games are no longer cross gen. Don't care about physical games.
I also got a Geforce Now subscription on summer sale on my Mac Mini so I can play some PC games with mouse and keyboard (like Cyberpunk). No plan to spent 2k for a gaming pc
Sticking with my base ps5 for now. I have a huge library from plus but i don't know for how much more i'm gonna spend the 72 euros. Another bad thing is that sony didn't find a way to brute force at least 60 fps to older games and that alone makes me feel that i was building my library to the wrong platform. With PC even old games can have a fresh coat of paint. Heck even xbox did this better.
Switching to PC seems like a bonehead move, honestly. PC, which has famously been all digital for years, is seen as the alternative to Sony going all digital? I've seen the argument that if PlayStation is all digital then we might as well be on PC because the only reason we're on PlayStation is for the discs.... okay, sure. But I don't think even a sizable minority of PlayStation players will make that move. Why would you? Buying a more expensive machine to get the same experience?
Ultimately, while I do think Sony ditching discs is a totally unforced error and they shouldn't be doing it, I don't think it is going to have a huge impact. I imagine they think that too, which is why they're going ahead with it. Yes, everyone will be mad about and there'll be the petition and everyone will definitely not be getting the PS6. But we'll see.

I'll stick to PlayStation, I'm 33 & been a console gamer since I was 8. I don't understand PC gamers, "Ooh lets play on a tool designed for work and use a Keyboard like its a Commodore 64". To me a computer is a rapidly declining tool that's been replaced by Smartphones. I very rarely use my laptop anymore.

Bought a great PC just over a year ago, best gaming system I've ever had.
It isn't the top of the range, about slightly higher than middle ground, but an absolute beast with everything current and for the foreseeable future.
I do chuckle when a new game is announced for consoles and specs like 30/60 FPS and 1080p are used still, and a select few at 4K with limitations..
Quite telling how those systems quickly got left behind. Hobbled from near day one really.
Someone mentioned about messing about with drivers and settings on PC, what in the 2000s? One click optimise and it set's each game for you.
Mouse and keyboard like a C64? Only through choice. All games work with controllers. So blinkered.
The writing was on the wall about the time I got my PC. With price rises on 5 year old out of date hardware, game pass ultimate massive price rise, etc.

That's you, and no a computer isn't a declining tool, I use my multiple PC's for nearly everything, from work to gaming. I'm also a lifelong console gamer.
I just about had settled on having Playstation as my main platform when all the controversy took off
I actually have a nice 5070 ti 1440p gaming PC. The graphics on it are certainly a notch up from my PS5 and the games are a lot cheaper. The whole experience however, is holding me back from going back to it for my main gaming station.
I often have 15 - 30 minutes to get a quick game in. On PC, often 5 - 10 minutes are need to get in game. While on PS, I'm gaming in less than 30 seconds.
Also technical (often small) problems on PC are annoying. Performance is better there, but with many games less consistent. Nothing that some tinkering fix, but this again eats into my gaming time.
I am going to look into the options like Bazzite to make the PC experience more console like. Maybe that can get me back or have it as a more streamlined option should the PS6 launch be a real let down.
@EVIL-C Well you don't have to agree with me but my future doesn't include PC. Many workplaces including mine are shifting from computers to mobile apps for convenience. My mate recently switched from PS5 to a 5K PC literally so he could play Tarkov & Dawn of War and has isolated himself from his own friends who are all on PS, then gets salty because we won't download Discord.
It's not something I've ever really thought about. For now, there's still a shed ton I haven't played on on playstation that's is still available physically. Pc is too expensive upfront, xbox don't really cater to my tastes, nintendo seems more my type of console inline with my tastes but I couldn't be doing with the lack of performance and stuff. So I guess for now I'm sticking with what I've got.

My friend who doesn't have a gaming PC, and was gone from PS for a decade, had just sold his XSX assuming Gears E-Day would come to PS5, then a couple months later we learned it's exclusive. 🤦♂️ I was warning him don't get comfortable with this multiplat stragety, especially since Xbox has been struggling so much. It could end at any time. I must be psychic. 😋 My friends all do have PS5s and S2's, but our tastes are so wildly different that we barely play together anyway, hence my gravitation for single player games.

Further note, my PC is digital, and I buy from Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, Rockstar(Awful Launcher) and CDKEYS/LOADED; most recently with RPCS3 I have restarted inFamous and GT5, yes I have a copy just there, and realised that backwards compatibility is suddenly not as big an issue. I have my Steamdeck too to play those on the go games - Crimson desert was laughable - my PC is for games and there is no Office on it, am also considering a switch to AMD GPU and just go STEAM OS.
@electrolite77 it's not an issue but it shows that the state of PC gaming is pretty poor , they don't seem to get any blockbuster big hitters in the way that playstation regularly does.
I already have a PC. I play online games on it. I left single player to the playstation and switch. I currently no longer plan on getting a PS6. It's a PC with online paywall. If i go digital only, the PC makes more sense due to no online paywall and better game prices.
I imagine the switch 2 will gain popularity as the last console holding physical media. I got PS4 and PS5 at launch. I was preparing for the PS6 even with a higher price. Now that Sony spit on our face with greed, i choose to spit back. I don't need them. The IP i liked from them, they have skipped already. God of War was the only one left, but it's something i enjoy more than something i need. I can live without it. Actually, funnily enough, this means i will skip Laufy as well, which i was originally planning to get eventually.
Consoles are, or at least always were, an affordable entry point into modern gaming. The PC was the expensive option that offered the most games, could offer the highest frame rates and best graphics and also had the most options but as I said, that came at a Price.
The console was a more curated list with a few of its own 'exclusives' thrown in for competition with any rivals - instead of letting the Hardware compete. It was also a LOT cheaper than a PC with its subsidised hardware with more costly games and latterly its monopoly store front and compulsory Subscriptions to unlock the full library of games and features. Now a 'budget' PC is a LOT cheaper and now the affordable option and it doesn't require additional sub fees to keep playing the games you own. Stop paying for PS+ and lose access to half (or more) of your games you bought because they require PS+ to function, to play with friends etc.
If a PS6 costs £1000 at launch, over its lifetime, you'll also need to pay out over £400 on PS+ Essential just to keep playing some games, just to have access to online features - inc Cloud Storage. For that money, you can buy a PC that will play EVERY 3rd Party released on PS too as well as 1000's of games not on Playstation.
The ONLY reason to own a PS6 is for Exclusives, but as games take so long to make, I'm not buying a Console costing that much for maybe 1 game a year that I want to play and requiring a sub to play games online.
Basically, I'd leave Playstation just for the disrespect they've shown and to prove a point that they can't just do anything they like and be as anti-consumer as they like and people will stick with them. There needs to be consequences, even if I have to not play some of the best games (although that's hardly true lately) around. Life is more than games and Sony need to realise that.
I knew something was off when i realised that i couldn't backup my ps5 save files. PS+ from 50e going to 72 and with rare or no sales at all. Old games stuck to 30 fps being almost unplayable to modern TVs. Chasing the Live service unicorn with mega flops and eliminating psysical media that was the only alternative to the mediocre PSN store. Really, what's next?
As an unwelcome illustration of why I'm using Playstation… I just tried to get Moonlight streaming to my Steam Deck working again (I think it got borked after swapping GPU's). I lost more than half an hour and now the host application Apollo won't even boot on the PC.
I constantly bump into these kind of issues on PC that surely are fixable but do show a big difference with consoles for me. Chiaki on Steam Deck was easy to install and hasn't missed a beat in streaming my PS5.
Fact is I just feel lost at the moment. No idea what I will do.
I will say, while Sony/Microsoft are busily selling their souls to the investors and greed, Nintendo is launching games.

Switch 2 is by far the closest analouge to PS5 but as with the whole disc situation in general Push-Square is only addressing a tiny fraction of the audience.
If I'm going to pay £1K+ for a console I may as well pay the same for a gaming computer thatll last longer, give more freedom with prices and mods.
But consoles are still more convenient, and it depends if you can hook a pc up to a comfy location to play. That's assuming I have the money to spend, at the moment I'm lucky if I can get the nice tomatoes from Big Tesco's this month.
I left towards the end of the PS4 era. The idea was to go PC + PS5 at first (even bought the Pulse headset to use for both) but with time the urge to buy another Playstation vanished. Sony today just isn't the same company I was a fan of from PS1 to PS4.
Sad times.

I bought a LOT of games on the PS4, 90% physical - only digital when there was no disc version.
On the PS5, I think I've bought about 4 games - most of which have failed to engage me.
So, going forward, I could easily sell the PS5 with its SSD, keep the old PS4 Pro with its massive backlog and USB backups, and either go PC and/or Switch 2.
Sony have burned a lot of bridges with their attitude in the PS5 era and it doesn't look any better in the upcoming next-gen. Been a Sony advocate for almost 30 years and never thought I would be anything else but they can shove their oversized, overpriced, ungainly console (with an attachable disc drive) up where the sun doesn't shine.
Nah, I was PCMR for 20+ years before COVID when my last gaming PC died and I went full Playstation. The hardware manufacturers along with MS have done everything they possibly can to drive me away from coming back. While I dislike that Sony is doing away with physical discs, the neverending enshitifcation of Windows and the active hostility towards gamers by the hardware folks I find much more distasteful.
I started with Nintendo, then Sega, then PS in the 80s & 90s until I went PC. Then in early 2010s when my kid turned 5, I went back to Nintendo (then got a PS5 a few years ago when I got the 30th anniversary console). I'll just stay with Nintendo & also try to play through my Switch & PS4/PS5 backlogs.

@XenonKnight i once believed the same. Now I have a dell g15 and an alienware. I know the latter is more expensive but it's a better value for money. It's much more stronger and the same time smaller and lighter, the charger wattage is higher but it's half the size! That makes it a better option for both gaming and everyday use. Even the fans are less louder than the g15. It's more refined in all aspects and totally worth what you pay for it
I've always been multi platform between PC and Playstation, since I got a PS1 back in 1998. But this generation has seen maybe 2 interesting games that came out on PS5 that I couldn't play on PC. My PS5 has been collecting dust for 18 months. I don't feel that the PS5 was worth buying, so unless this generation really picks up, I'm not interested in PS6 at any price.
@BAMozzy most people have a ps to play third party games then first party games since it takes a long time for first party games to be made.. sony makes way more money on third party games then on first party games.. also third party games will run much better on the ps then on the switch2 if you are a ps and switch owner..
Also, I picked the option on waiting for a price drop, but it's not really that, it's more about waiting to see whether I have a reason to move to PS6 up front. I don't imagine the gains will be high. I doubt there will be exclusives I have to buy. And if they do release this rumored handheld, I am definitely not going to buy that version since I do not like that type of experience, and I even fear it will lead to a Series S situation where it holds games back and makes them even harder to develop for. If that's how it plays out, I will be using my PS5 Pro for a good long time.
I haven’t been a dedicated Sony gamer since the PS2. I bought a PS5 on a whim during COVID and the whole gen was a mess, really. I certainly won’t be getting in on the ground floor with the PS6, there will need to be one heck of a title to get me back.
PC is the superior platform, setting aside cost. Its biggest downside is how painful accessibility can be, as well as exorbitantly priced components.
Those by the wayside, I just can't really see any negatives. It's basically an omni-generational multimedia machine.
If PS6 is digital only Steam is looking temping they have loads of games and great sales.

Console gaming IS still pick up and play - and very much couch gaming. PCs are definitely not that. The exception possibly being a steam machine (no disc) of which people are also outraged at the cost.
At least the digital comment makes sense. Can you even buy physical media for PC anymore? I mean, I’ve bought physical collectors editions over the years but never used the discs inside (before they stopped having discs and just had codes).
The “we lost our entire library gaming apocalypse” hasn’t happened in PC yet but if anyone is going to rage quit Sony over lack of a physical disc hoping to find salvation on a PC they’re going to be sorely disappointed.

@Kelvar Steam often have regular sales of 60-90%, PS Store does not offer such deep sales, or as often, which is really the only argument for PC over console, in addition to multiple storefronts.
The PS5 is powerful enough for my needs. I'm actually looking at retro handheld systems under $200 as the future of gaming along with the PS5.
If the PS6 comes out at $700 or less I may be tempted.
I just cant get excited for gaming anymore. The whole Sony business has just put a dampener on gaming as a whole.
I will probably not move to PC, because sitting at a desk is not how I want to play games. I might dust off my old Nintendo consoles and get into retro gaming, or stick with the PS5 until it dies.
In the poll I picked “Sony ending physical games,” but since I buy the majority of my games digitally it’s not because I can’t get a disc, it’s because then Sony will jack up their prices to even more absurd levels.
@Supern0va Few people seem to understand that the appeal of PC (at least for me, a mostly digital buyer) comes from the competition on digital storefronts. Without physical retailers and resellers, Sony can charge absolutely any price they think will maximize its revenue. I’m not seeing why they’re not seeing this.
I’m very fortunate to have built my gaming PC with a 4080 Super back in 2024. I’m sure there will be a couple PS6 exclusives I’ll want overtime but it just isn’t worth the $800-$1000 price tag it’ll cost with no physical media.
I’m basically just rocking PC and Switch 2 next gen. I’ll be able to play just about everything minus a small handful of PS6 exclusives. I’m more than happy with that.
@johnedwin Most people who bought consoles in the past to play 3rd Party games, bought the console because it was more affordable than buying a PC. The Console was the 'cheap' mass market device, the entry point for hardware.
Now you can buy a PC with NO online Subscription fee adding hundreds to the cost that will cause you to lose access to games you own and be limited to an even smaller library of titles if you don't pay. A PC can play EVERY third party game that's on Playstation and 1000's of games that aren't available on the hardware.
£1000 console + £400+ on PS+ essential just to play the Games you want and if you refuse or decide to stop paying for PS+, those games you 'own' can be rendered unplayable because they rely on PS+ to function. Doesn't matter if they were made by EA, Ubisoft etc, you have to pay that Sub fee.
A PC can play games at much better Frame rates too and give you far more options. Its got the largest Library and won't have a monopoly Storefront and blackmail sub fee you have to keep paying for or lose access to your games you bought to play on that hardware. That may have been acceptable with a £300 or even a £500 'premium' console as it still worked out cheaper than buying a PC.
A PC plays these games better than a PS will and I'd rather play at 1080p than 4k if that also means playing at 120fps or more as Frame Rate is by far the MOST important aspect to playability than Resolution - and resolution doesn't affect the story, the game-play, the fun etc. I never once mentioned 'Switch' but as its more 'affordable' than a Playstation, it may make more sense to buy a Switch 2 for its Exclusives and the ability to play 'anywhere' thanks to its portability than a PS6 costing more than 2x as much and only 1 or 2 exclusives a year that you can't play on a PC...
The point of Consoles was to provide a 'cheap' way for gamers to play modern games that otherwise would require a £1k+ PC to play them - now a PC offers a MUCH bigger library with multiple store fronts (no Monopoly) and NO games behind a Sub fee pay wall that will also block you from playing games you own if you don't pay...
It is all about the games itself. I only buy a PC/Console if a good game or exclusive will come to a specific platform. Sony had my preference but times are changing.
I've been a PC gamer for many years until I bought a PS4 in 2014. Nothing has changed. Windows is no better. Also, PC gaming world is inherently diskless, so I question the stated motivation of people who started considering Windows gaming because Sony will stop physical media sales.
I'll play all of the interesting games on Switch 2 and PC. I think I'll play Wolverine on PS5 and that may be my last Playstation game. Don't see a reason to get PS6 since I already have a decent PC that also doesn't require a relatively expensive subscription just to play games online.
To be clear, I'm not happy with Microsoft either (in terms of their direction for both Windows and Xbox). But I've been running Linux for a while anyway, and I would never go back to using the awful mess that is called Windows.
It's funny that "wait for a price drop" is even an option in that poll. As if that would ever happen again in our lifetimes.

It's not that there won't be any more games on a disc/less media variety. It is the fact that they kill the market for new and used games. I can't lend or sell my game to a friend. I can't decide if I buy it in the digital store or in the retail store downtown because they have an offer. There is no more competition. At the moment I CAN'T EVEN GIVE AWAY A GAME! This won't work, Sony!
And by the way... I bet the EU will have their own thoughts about it. And unlike with customer anger, they will have to listen very carefully here.
Sony is just going to kill the PS6 digital store when the PS9 is released. Why even bother with them anymore? Can't trust them saying they are going digital only at the same time they kill the PS3 and Vita digital stores.
I am seriously considering switching to PC if we are shifting to a digital o my future, PC has the advantage there and by a lot. I will miss the exclusives but honestly this generation not only have we gotten less exclusives but I don’t think a single one of them is essential like the exclusives from PS4 and even PS3.
And of course I will also continue supporting Nintendo.
Im thinking im going to "retire" from gaming. By that i mean, just stick to old games. I've already been moving away from this hobby naturally over the years.

C'mon, man. There are levels of maintenance, and these are just not comparable at all between PS5 and PC. The Steam Machine kind of stands between the two, but it's waaay too expensive for what it offers in terms of gaming performance.
Already on PC mainly. I'm not joking when I say that if I look at my PS5 in the room near me it literally has cobwebs on it. That's mainly due to games I wanted not having physical releases or the games only partly being on the disc and a download being needed so I didn't buy them.
For the most part Playstations (I have PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5 in my room) are for collecting physical games. My PC has modded Skyrim, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk as my main single player games, all from GOG so they can be backed up and I can download and save the offline installers too.
I also have Baldur's Gate 3 from GOG but I played that once and finished it around the time of release but still haven't gone back to it yet! Awesome game though so might go back eventually. Steam is used for some games that I can't get on GOG and I also play some online games too, Black Desert, Magic The Gathering Arena and Elder Scrolls Online being 3 of them.
I'm not going anywhere near a PS6. Price and no disc drive being the main reasons. Pointless paying £1000 or whatever for that as well when that amount of money could upgrade a PC instead. For future physical games will maybe get a Switch 2 if I ever have the money for one.
Physical media aside, for enthusiasts that value latest tech, high frames rates and so on, PC is the only answer! Apart from that, there are numerous advantages - simply the freedom, the ability to decide how you play the game and not how the devs want you to play the game..!
The mods alone are insane. The community constantly implement features or fixes stuff that devs fail to deliver in the game, and they even unlock settings that vendors like Nvidia and AMD restrict on older HW. In the current state of gaming industry this modding community is probably the biggest advantage of the PC.
Only disadvantage is the upfront cost, however it's totally worth it, and you get a lot back during the course of the generation from spending much less in games and no online pay ripoff!
Consoles in other hand are also nice to have for the exclusives and coop and social stuff with family / friends. But for 3rd party and most of the stuff PC delivers by far the best experience and again freedom!
All this talks about PC being a nightmare, with issues here and there, is straight BS in 2026.
Hard to say until we see what the PS6 actual manifests as, but I'm seriously considering getting a Rog Ally X just to have something to play indies and AA games on. Between that and my Switch 2 I should be set; beyond RE: Veronica and Tomb Raider: LoL there's really nothing much else on the PlayStation horizon that's doing it for me — this generation has been kind of a damp squib for first party titles, all told.
No, I'm not considering it at all. If I get into PC gaming, it won't be because I'm abandoning something else. I'm a Multiplatform kind of player as it is.

I have never had interest getting into PC. I'll still get PS5 games even after PS6, and ill play Switch 2 and have plenty of fun between all of that.
Playstation lost their identity and feel a while ago, but has still had great games. But now they lost their morals and care abkut players. So now they lose them.

@nomither6 I haven't stopped using the internet, so I know what's there in Windows world. Also, sometimes I ask my friends things like if a thing that was giving me pain many years ago finally got fixed or not.

@CheapMerc yeah, i hear you. I was pc gamer till late life cycle of ps4 when i got ps4 pro as a present. Then moved to ps5 and now with the pro. Laying on the couch with the big tv and the pulse 3d is awesome for me. Cant see myself back on a desk to game and deal with components and *****.
People leaving PlayStation for lack of physical games to go to PC, where physical games haven’t existed for a decade, is certainly a choice.

Brother to me is the disrespect of thinking I am, and treating me like cattle. Like I'm just gonna do what they want because of brand loyalty. I already canceled my PS+ have no interest in PS6. Let's hope it's reveal doesn't wow me. I doubt it will with this new PlayStation leadership mentality it's gonna be one ugly box.

PC gets most of the blockbusters though? How does selling old games in any way indicate that the platform doesn’t get new games? There’s no connection at all. In fact a platform having literally decades of persistent BC as well as modern games is a big plus.

I'd say I'm fairly unlikely to go all-in on PC. The one thing that might have swayed me was the Steam Machine, but the price/performance ratio is a little too jarring for that, currently. My main gaming platform is always going to be a living room device, so it's really just a matter of evaluating what PS6 offers when it gets here. In the meantime I'm pretty invested in my Switch 2 (so much better than the first one, which I got bored of and sold) so that's more what Sony are competing with in my house.
