God of War Laufey PS5

Santa Monica Studio has revealed God of War Laufey will beat the January 2028 deadline Sony has set for physical disc production, granting it a full and complete physical release.

Earlier today, on social media, the team promoted the San Diego Comic-Con panel it has planned for later in July, where God of War Laufey will star. The post was inundated with complaints regarding Sony's decision to cease the production of physical PlayStation discs, as has every other post the platform holder has made since its return to social media.

In response, the developer simply said: "We can confirm God of War Laufey will be available on disc."

This does two things: it, of course, confirms God of War Laufey will get a full physical release on a PS5 Disc. But also, it means the game has to launch before January 2028.

Constant rumours have tagged the Faye-fronted game as launching within the first six months of 2027, so today's news lends more legitimacy to those claims. You probably won't have that confirmed during the Comic-Con panel — I expect that later in the year at a State of Play — but there will be plenty of "behind-the-scenes insights from development and the performance capture that brings each character to life".

Game director Ariel Lawrence and head of creative Cory Barlog will both be there, joined by voice actors Deborah Ann Woll (Laufey), Chris Judge (Kratos), Jack Quaid (Phranque), and Perlina Lau (Rue) on stage.
