Re: Sony Rolling Out New Gold Wireless Headset This Month

drd7of14

@stBoa Odd...I got one 4 years ago, and it never broke at the folds. What did start happening, around October, was the thin leather(or leather-like) material around the earmuffs started peeling off somewhat.

I actually loved it so much though, and had definitely recommended it to 2 of my brothers, and 3 friends...All that have had it without issues. And while I'm not abusive to my headphones, I wouldn't say I'm exactly treating them like a good set of fancy teacups.

Starting to think it may be partly a manufacturing flaw in the old design though, where some are more brittle than others, cause many users have reported issues.

I did end up upgrading to the Platinum, and whilst their not indestructible, the band on top is Metal, so it's definitely more sturdy (at least enough to break at the folds).

Re: Virtual Reality Movement Peripheral 3dRudder Will be Announced for PlayStation VR

drd7of14

@EvanVR Sort of what I was thinking...The problem with the YMUV is that it's more like an 8 directional D-Pad akin to a DDR pad. I'm interested in something close to that size, but lifted upward that shifts with your balance.

That way it allows for a more analog direction of movement, and it has a more tactile feeling by that sudden offset of balance when backing up.

There's a game on Steam called Galaxy Race that uses a leaning mechanic (but this doesn't incorporate any extra hardware aside from). It's like a Back to the Future hoverboard type of movement system for the game.

Re: Virtual Reality Movement Peripheral 3dRudder Will be Announced for PlayStation VR

drd7of14

It's a nice option, especially if supports comes for PSVR in particular. But it being targeted as a seated experience kind of disinterests me. I understand the complications using it while standing, as it would need a completely different design...But I'd prefer that design personally.

That being said, anything that can give analog movement in some form to the Move Controllers is a step in the right direction, at least until new PSVR controllers are introduced, Move or otherwise.

Re: Review: Dragon Ball FighterZ (PS4)

drd7of14

It may just not be for me, but I wasn't a fan during the Beta. I love Arc System Works' other Fighting Game titles...But this one, I wasn't a fan of.

I never found Guilty Gear that complicated, but it was still a fighting game. You had to learn things, like the relatively simple combos. But the way DBFZ is designed, with these Easy combo moves...I was not impressed. Perhaps locally the game would be more fun with friends, but the online was just full of garbage casual spammers in the Beta (Casual or Tournament).

It is DB, so let's be honest here...I'll definitely be getting the game at some point, but my suspicion over the easy move set prior to the beta was high; regardless, so was my enthusiasm/excitement. It fell so hard after the Open Beta (which was a real shame).

Luckily for now, there are still plenty of games to play in the mean time...So, for the time being, I shelve my interest for DBFZ into Monster Hunter: World. As for everyone else, do enjoy the game. ASW is one of the best fighting game devs out there, so they definitely deserve respect for what they've done with DBFZ. It truly is a well made game, but it's not 1st and foremost for me.

Re: PS4 Hacked Enabling Wider PS2 Support, Homebrew

drd7of14

@Octane Their games, likely just business reasons. I'm sure they're thinking of how they can do remasters/remakes for all their titles rather than just port them as PS2 on PS4 titles with added trophies.

As for anything not published by them, that's all set by the terms of most publishers. Those usually don't include free reign to redistribute others' games' willy-nilly.

If the inconsistency of PS2 emulation on PS4 natively is anything to go by, it makes sense why they haven't just enabled it. Just like with XB1, it takes time to patch each and every game to be supported.

I do think that it's worth the time though, at least for their catalogue of titles. Even if there was Shadow of the Colossus PS2 and Shadow of the Colossus PS4, aside from minor confusion to consumers, it'd be nice if it just worked. Easy solution is to just make PS2 discs work, and not allow native PS2 downloads on PS4...So consumers can't accidentally buy the PS4 enhanced version over the PS2 original version.

Re: Feature: 5 Ways the PlayStation Store Must Improve in 2018

drd7of14

@daveofduncan It is for retail, cause the pressure comes from retail outlets (such as Game) on the Publisher, due to competition between their relative retail outlets.

Such pressure does not come from SONY on the PlayStation Store, except most likely during certain larger sales throughout the year. Most of the discounts are undoubtedly derived from the Publishers.

If it's about digital Price drops matching their retail Price drops, then that is definitely a Publisher question. SONY cannot just lower the prices to match Retail, and to be honest...There's little need. Publishers don't want to piss off physical retail outlets, so it's more than likely most don't bother with digital price matching. For now, there's no need.

Not until physical retail outlets are the minority of sales, rather than the majority, will Publishers rethink their pricing across the board for digital/physical. There are select publishers who are better than other at this, but there are also publishers (like Nintendo) that almost never markdown their 1st party prices (outside of a temporary sale) with physical/digital units regardless.

It all depends on the publisher's practices, but they're definitely the one's to reach out above the exclusive platform holder for a console.

Steam competes with Origin, Gog, UPlay, Blizzard, etc...It may dominate against these, but it does compete within the same distribution on the PC platform. PS Store has no such mass competition, it is (virtually) the only place to purchases digital titles aside from Amazon, GMG, and select other online retail outlets. Since it is on top, you'll find no such need for competition from the retailer (SONY), but instead from the Game Publishers themselves for their overall revenue boost (or other such promotional reasons).

Re: There's Another Licensed PS4 'Pro' Controller Out Next Week

drd7of14

This would be something I'd want to have for the friends who refused to play with a standard symmetrical designed controller cause they only heard of and were familiar with Xbox.

Well, it would be if they existed. Symmetrical design is the way to go Hori. At the very least, make the analog/d-pad swap-able somehow.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Local Multiplayer Games

drd7of14

@YummyHappyPills Could tell your friend or whomever to bring their own controller. That's how most of us did it back in the day when we didn't have enough controllers.

I remember going over to my friends house after school with my GCN controller in hand ready to Smash it up.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Local Multiplayer Games

drd7of14

@YummyHappyPills Playlink supports iOS/Android. That's hardly on the same level as Move/Eyetoy/Wonderbook...It's not a peripheral that you have to buy. It's a thing (a controller) that everyone has in their pocket and is familiar with.

Playlink isn't much different from Jackbox, with the exception that you have to download an app rather than using the web browser directly. Not saying it's perfect (one app to rule them all would have been nice), but That's You, Hidden Agenda, and Knowledge is Power are all great fun PlayLink games to play with a bunch of others.

Re: Feature: 5 Ways the PlayStation Store Must Improve in 2018

drd7of14

@Paranoimia I mean...I couldn't find Wolfenstein® II: The New Colossus™ Digital Deluxe Edition for $31.99 less than a month after release in retail store. Maybe that's just me though, but it was definitely cheaper digitally (+ No Tax).

It varies from game to game, and the ability for games to be used heavily impacts a games retail price...But New for New, they are mostly the same aside from sale promotions.

I will say what gets ridiculous in pricing is how long it takes for older games to match their retail counterparts lowered MSRP (when coming from the publisher not the retail outlet). The reality is, the competition that brings retail prices down comes from the pressure by the retailer to the publisher. Certain games do not need to drop in price, while others have to if the retailer is going to continue purchasing the games and keep stock.

Digital has none of these issues. There is no stock limitation, no space limitation, and no significant retail competition in the digital marketplace for console games within the same platform ecosystem (Just GMG, Amazon, HumbleBundle really [with limited selections]).

I imagine that as time comes on more online retail stores will drive down competitive pricing for digital games (as it has with Steam), but that takes a long time to happen (as it has with Steam). There will almost certainly never be more than one storefront on a console (at least PS Store), the pressure from online retailers on publishers to lower prices could start to lower prices and in turn lower the store.playstation.com prices.

But yeah...All that to say, YMMV. Sometimes deals are better digitally for titles on PlayStation, but most of the time. Nope. Definitely more likely to find more frequent deals and lower MSRP at physical Retailers.

Re: Sony Killing Killzone 2, Killzone 3 Servers in March 2018

drd7of14

@Dange They should also support Linked Consoles/Local play support as well. It's really such a shame to lose such a huge aspect of the game. Sadly Killzone never got mass appeal, but it is honestly one of favorite FPS online games to play. Shadowfall is a lot of fun, but KZ 3 was my personal best.

Re: NA PlayStation Store Rolls Out Hundreds of Holiday Discounts

drd7of14

@Giygas_95 Gotcha...I mean, it's hard to say the next time Wolf will be on sale again for $30 or less...The game is great, though quite different to Doom in many ways. It's still fast, but not nearly as arcadey/classic-arena fast as Doom.

If it were to drop down to $30 or below, I doubt it would be until next Fall or some "one-off" Bethesda sale throughout the year (Like an e3 sale or something along those lines).

The only other time I could "possibly" see them pushing Wolf again is when the Switch release comes out, but it'd be silly for them to lower the prices of the PS4/X1/PC versions, cause it would even more so set a significant berth of difference.

This is almost certainly going to be the lowest price on PSN until Fall/Holiday 2018. Depends if you've got enough to play and wait on.

Re: Gravity Rush Fans Fight to Keep Sequel's Servers Online

drd7of14

@AlwaysGreener

That's what I would suggest people say to SONY and Japan Studio. Just release the costumes that cannot be obtained after the servers go down for free as a DLC add-on.

I cannot imagine the work would take as much time, it would please their fans/consumers, and they can still shutdown the servers.

Re: Three Dragon Ball Super Characters Make the Cut in Dragon Ball FighterZ

drd7of14

@ToddlerNaruto

I get that people should be more careful with spoilers, of course. I get annoyed by them too in any form.

But I do have to ask, if you are not caught up, why would you go to an article for DragonBall Fighterz that specifically says

"Three Dragon ball Super characters Make the Cut in Dragon Ball FighterZ"?

And even after that seeing names that are mentioned in the article you'd be mostly unfamiliar with...Why would you read the comments as well?

Again...Understand the need to avoid spoilers and be annoyed by them, but it seems as if you jumped into the lions nest on that one, to a degree.

For the future, I would definitely avoid any discussions on a subject you are not caught up-to-date on...Cause I would personally never trust/count on total strangers to not spoil things on a selective topic such as this one.

Re: PS4 Firmware Update 5.03 Does Exactly What You Expect

drd7of14

Wouldn't be surprised if this minor update has to do with a fix/patch for the ShareFactory 3.0 Update that came out 2 days ago.

There could have been a performance reason that effected the UI negatively and this firmware patch fixed it. Could also be a number of other titles releasing soon/recently, but there's nothing imminent that I could imagine. The ShareFactory Update 3.0 coincides pretty well with the hotfix performance patch.

Re: Interview: MediEvil Creators Give Their Verdict on the Forthcoming PS4 Remaster

drd7of14

@wiiware There's also the Ratchet and Clank method, which had redesigned sections, added weapons/mechanics, and entirely new bosses...But it was certainly quite similar overall to the original. (Works cause it's the story from Quark's perspective.)

Medieval may go the Crash Bandicoot/Shadow of the Colossus route, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some minor level alternations or new abilities thrown in. Medieval (PS1) was a great fun game, but it wasn't devoid of problems.

Re: Feature: The PlayStation Store's Content Problem

drd7of14

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

The simple solution is to have 2 separated Tabs

Main: a verified/certified list of PlayStation Store content.
-Contains curated games that have widespread appeal, offering mostly AAA or 1st/2nd party published games, as well as full published games. The hurdle is larger, but the advantage is a more organized section that allows your game to be found more easily. Money may help to get it on this list, but that is not what it's about...Money could be invested, but it could still be denied, and pushed to the secondary section.

Secondary: Everything else, whatever games they offer...
-Nothing broken and still gone through the certification process, but non-curated in any shape or form. This would be more of an easier hurdle to step over for independent developers.

And then they'd just advertise that both sections exist with a simple slogan...

"Not finding what you're looking for, why not jump into the extended treasure trove ball pit of games"

...or something like that.

Re: There's Still Hope for Fallout 4 on PlayStation VR

drd7of14

@get2sammyb Quite true of course, but...That's not nearly as fun. Some games work fine with DS4, like Eve: Valkyrie/Battlezone, but when you can shoot in an FPS style or want to physically grasp objects, motion controls really stand out and assist with the immersion.

I always appreciate standard controller support though, cause as of right now it's the smoothest way to play VR games with movement on PS4. That analogue is pretty important after all.

Re: There's Still Hope for Fallout 4 on PlayStation VR

drd7of14

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I don't think it's the power of the console as much as it is the control inputs. The Move button inputs and tracking are not ideal. It needs the precision that the Vive offers. Oculus Rift holds up pretty well too with their Touch controllers, though I personally find the Rift tracking to be more precise.

The Move just needs a refresher. They were a great tech for 2010, and it's impressive that they've held up as well as they do for VR...But they are old, and SONY could not have predicted the exact direction they'd be in 7 years later. I look forward to the redesign and VR integration, as SONY do make pretty nice controller designs, for the most part.

Re: There's Still Hope for Fallout 4 on PlayStation VR

drd7of14

The only way I could see Fallout 4 VR coming to PlayStation is if they upgraded the controllers first and foremost, and then if they came out with the rumored lighthouse-esque roomscale tech.

Upgraded Moves I could see for this gen, but if they are indeed planning a similar approach to tracking as the Vive, then I wouldn't expect that to launch until the PS5.

At that point I would also expect a new VR headset, but I could see them integrating roomscale tracking with the PSVR 1.0 version, if they end up going with a multi camera setup instead, which I doubt. Lighthouse is the way to go.

We'll see what they're planning, but it's obvious that the Move controllers will receive an update at some point. It's just a matter of when.

Re: Sony: We Didn't Date Our PS4 Games on Purpose

drd7of14

@BAMozzy The only title I can think of currently in this position from SONY, announced with 2-3+ years is Dreams. Every other title they showed off was either announced 1 year ago, at PSX, or was new.

The titles that weren't shown, TLOU Part 2 and Death Stranding, were specifically disclaimed as being early in development. And even they are likely coming out 2019 That's about 3 years since announcement, but everything else is within that 2 year bracket.

Re: A New PlayStation Vita? The Ridiculously Stupid E3 Rumours Have Begun

drd7of14

@rjejr While SONY is totally crazy enough to do another one, that was very much the old PlayStation with the PSP Go.

That being said, despite the 3DS dominating the portable market over the PSV. It was by no means a flop. They sold a lot of VITA units. Moreso than the Wii U...That's really quite sad on the Wii U's side, but not not a complete failure for the PSV, just because the PSP did so much better.

I could see them doing another portable unit. But it will likely be a more open unit for just that, 3rd party indies and the like. Powerful enough, and given more functionality. I also don't expect it for at least 2-3 years.

Re: Danger Zone Really Is Burnout's Crash Mode on PS4

drd7of14

Hardly...This game looks like it's about crashing, rather than racing. I get the crash mode comparison, but because this is made specifically for crashing...Elements of high speed and such look lost on it. The level design looks created, and not real. What's the purpose to the cars being there?, as it doesn't look like a real road.

Just a tiff of mine. I'd prefer more context other than, "Just Because." Same problem that I had ClusterTruck. It's got that Mobile effect of being a boring simulator thing, rather than a true to form arcade game.

Re: Poll: Will Your PS4 Gather Dust Now the Nintendo Switch Is Out?

drd7of14

I think the better question is, How long will the Switch take to start gathering Dust? Aka...How long does it take to beat Zelda?, assuming people don't forget it's playable on Wii U as well.

Looks like an awesome game, but it's just one substantial game. Besides that there's...Some Wii U ports. Cool, but not ideal.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?

drd7of14

It might even help the sales actually! People will go in to stores to get the Switch, but noting Nintendo's track record, it will be way OOS, as they didn't properly prepare, the Wii U version of Legend of Zelda, though we don't have confirmation, likely won't be out March 3rd, and then they will be directed elsewhere, where Horizon, another new game that will be heavily advertised might get their attention, boosting PS4 sales in the process.

It may work to it's benefit. But yeah, 53 million people have a PS4. 0 have a Switch. And Horizon comes out first. I think it will be fine. SONY has nothing to worry about.
