PSVR CUH-ZVR1 vs CUH-ZVR2 - What's the Difference?

PSVR CUH-ZVR1 vs CUH-ZVR2: What Are the Differences?

PlayStation VR CUH-ZVR2 is the updated version of the headset, while PSVR CUH-ZVR1 is the launch model. PSVR CUH-ZVR2 makes a few minor changes to the original headset, streamlining its cabling and integrating its stereo headphones into the headset itself. The biggest change, though, is to the Processor Unit, which allows HDR passthrough when playing on a compatible 4K television. This is one of the biggest oversights of the original PSVR, as you needed to swap out cables in order to take advantage of HDR.

PSVR CUH-ZVR1 vs CUH-ZVR2: How Can You Distinguish Between the Models?

To find out whether you’re buying a CUH-ZVR1 or CUH-ZVR2 PlayStation VR headset, simply look for the product code on the packaging. At the time of typing, bundles for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR and DOOM VFR include the updated model in the United States, but things vary around the world. If you can’t find the product code, then look at the image of the headset on the boxart itself – the CUH-ZVR2 model will show the headphones integrated into the headset.

PSVR CUH-ZVR1 vs CUH-ZVR2: Which Model Should You Buy?

There’s a good chance that Sony will discount the PSVR CUH-ZVR1 model in order to clear stock, so if you’re not worried about the HDR oversight and you can get a good price, you may as well go for the launch model – the specifications, screen, and all other features are identical after all. If you happen to own a 4K television and use HDR, though, you’re going to want to plump up for PlayStation VR CUH-ZVR2, as the added convenience should really improve your experience.
