Re: We're Sure Fans Will Be Rational Over This The Last of Us PS5 Clip

drd7of14

This would all be so much better if SONY was honest about why this remake exists.

It's not because ND wanted to make it, but because the SONY Service Group VASG started making it on their own. SONY then took it away from them and gave the project to ND.

Not suggesting ND isn't in charge of these decisions from after the point they took over, but strange that they're so hush hush about this. Pretending they always wanted/intended to remake TLOU and greenlit the project internally like this is very strange when there's an actual reason to point to.

Anyways - Worth a good read:

Re: Sony Discontinuing PS5 Accolades As No One Used Them

drd7of14

If it was more integrated into the games themselves, and gave you a moment to do it then sure I would have used it.

But it was always something that required going to the playstation menus to do so. It just wasn't pushed enough all around for me to use or think of in the moment.

Re: More PS1, PSP Games Launching on PS Plus Premium Revealed

drd7of14

This does raise 2 questions,

1 - Is it the same price to buy these same games on PS1 (Classics) or PSP from a PS3/PSP/PSV?

2 - Does the ala carte purchase go both ways? Like if you buy the PS4/PS5 version does it unlock the PS1/PSP download on legacy platforms?

@PushSquare Definitely things recommend to test

Re: Talking Point: What PS1, PS2, and PSP Games Do You Want on PS Plus Premium?

drd7of14

Not including anything that's already available on PS4/PS5 as it would be redundant. Otherwise I'll do at least 6 per platform.

PS1:
Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Twisted Metal 2
Parasite Eve 1/2
Legacy of Main: Soul Reaver
Spider-Man

PS2:
GTA Vice/Liberty City Stories
Dragonball Budokai: Tenkaichi 3
Burnout Revenge
The Matrix: Path of Neo
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

PSP:
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy
Patchwork Heroes
Resistance: Retribution
Patapon 3
The 3rd Birthday

PS3:
3D Dot Game Heroes
Drakengard 3
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Alice: Madness Returns
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Twisted Metal

Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Testing Still Underway for 'Over 4000' PS4 Games

drd7of14

@Cloud7794 Well, there are licensing agreements that have to be made. Games released for PS1/PS2 were not made with future platforms in mind. So to re-release them digitally (even if they were already available digitally on PS3) needs a new license agreement.

SONY probably didn't see many sales on PS3 for PS1/PS2 games, so they stopped. I still think it would be neat to support discs and/or renew those classic games' licenses from the PS3 gen, but it's not very likely to happen...at least not at launch or for free

Re: Hands On: Fallout 76's PS4 Performance Is Embarrassing in 2018

drd7of14

How to make a Bethesda game:

Step 1. Launch Game in Broken State
Step 2. Have some patches that claim to fix issues, but don't really do anything
Step 3. Launch DLC that breaks game even further
Step 4. Make money from UGC/Mods
Step 5. Release Game of the Year Edition
Step 6. Port to every console imaginable
Step 7. Release mediocre port to VR (May or may not include DLC)
Step 8. Put game online (Yeah, that will fix our performance/bugs)

Re: Divinity: Original Sin II Will Be Playable Early on PS4

drd7of14

@naruball 2 weeks earlier is significant for a pre-order bonus. That likely means that the first chunk is ready, while they're still cleaning up the rest.

There are many devs that could operate in this way rather than the normal release day or long term early access period. Pre-ordering for a 2 week early access to the first chunk of the game is a very nice bonus.

Re: Bomb Defusing Party Game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes to Drop PSVR Requirement

drd7of14

@FullbringIchigo They knew what they were getting in to.

The install-base for VR on PS4 will never compare to the now 80 Million + potential users. I wouldn't say they'd regret making it in VR, but looking for more sales makes a lot of sense.

When it comes down to it, I'll try it in non-VR out of curiosity, but this is definitely one of the games I'd say works very well in the isolated local multiplayer VR space (which is few and far between).

Making a game VR/non-VR for now makes the most sense to optimize sales. Just as long as it's not a tossed in VR sidemode or something like that.

Re: Resistance 4 Is a Longshot, But Never Say Never

drd7of14

Great games to play with varying degrees of multiplayer. And the best part is, they can still be played locally since they all have splitscreen in some form.

The servers may be down, but you can still play with a friend or family via comp or coop. Prime example as to why local splitscreen/shared-screen is so important.

Games with online only end up being trash in 5-10 years since there's nothing to do alone (Except shed a tear.)

Re: Layoffs at Evolution Studios After Onrush Bombs

drd7of14

@Sanquine Ummm...Forza isn't the same exact genre as OnRush. So, it's a weak comparison. Adding in the comment by @get2sammyb about it being bundled in most Xbox consoles, and being a long running series...It starts to make sense.

Also when it comes to console exclusives, Forza is consistently good, but it rarely has to compete with other 1st party exclusives. Driveclub had wayyy tooo much competition and another 1st party racing sim company to compete with. They should have stuck with arcade racers, but even then...It's just not popular enough (clearly).

It sucks for the devs that were let go from Evolution, and of course hope they find work elsewhere, but people weren't that into OnRush. I still think it's a solid idea for what it is, but I'd be surprised if the average Jill or Joe ever heard of it...Whilst they've most likely heard of Forza.

Re: Layoffs at Evolution Studios After Onrush Bombs

drd7of14

@Savino Nothing new...?

The entire gameplay is based on a completely unique idea surrounding staying together in a group and taking out opponents.

It's not a standard racing game.

My only personal problem with it is that it didn't have splitscreen. At least for me, non-splitscreen arcade-style racing titles are not typically worth it. The inevitability of the servers going down means that at some point it would only be Single Player against AI. Splitscreen allows it to live on. I was gonna jump in at around $20.

Re: Poll: Ultimate PlayStation Character Tournament: Grand Final

drd7of14

@Th3solution What's funny to me, is I was always bothered how people complained about him being a murderous hero...But other characters in games do the same and are no problem.

Obviously context for everything matters, and every game is unique in its specific plots, but nearly all shooters end up applauding mass murders as heroes. It's rare that we get something that questions it or has a character who's tormented by it like Spec Ops: The Line or Tomb Raider/Rise.

Not saying that it's necessarily right to be ignored, but then Uncharted stops being Indiana Jones and instead becomes a game about a character who deals with PTSD and is a mass murderer. Just a different game entirely. Light hearted shooter may sound odd to say, but in the context of Uncharted, it's more or less fine. Obviously TLOU engages a more heavy side where there's more weight to killing.

Re: PS4 Firmware 6.00 on the Way as Sony Opens Beta Sign-ups

drd7of14

@GigaGaia That is not correct. The PS4 has a BR lens, not the PS1 optical laser lens. That is why it cannot play CDs.

It is compatible with DVD/BR format only. What is possible is PS2 playback, with patches and such for each specific game. But thus far, they've not done that.

The most they could possibly do in theory with PS1 discs would be a simple check that it's legitimate, and then offer some sort of digital/stream equivalent, but it cannot read the disc in the normal sense.

Re: PS4 Firmware 6.00 on the Way as Sony Opens Beta Sign-ups

All 3 sign-ups are not working right now.

Europe: Page still isn't updated.
North America: You get the Snaaaaaaaake error
Japan:
PS4® System Software Beta Application
It is not currently the reply period.
This form is before or after the start of the response period.
Please confirm the response period.

As mentioned up above, likely due to it not being updated as the 2017 page.

If the NA Beta sign up was live, it may be that it was in error, or they just took sign-ups down until they can get an official blog post about it up.

Re: E3 2018: New Dreams Creation Gameplay Shows Basic Animation, Music, and Logic

drd7of14

@blakey78 They probably thought people would have moved faster with a brief 2-3 minutes, a BO3 PS Plus announcement, and back to the show. But they had a crap ton of people there to escort quickly to seats from a small (mostly standing) to large (mostly sitting) area.

It was a bad idea. Should have saved the TLOU Part 2 church theme for one of the panels or something. Maybe wouldn't get as much exposure as the conference, but the quick wow/cool moment of being in the room just wasn't worth it. Shawn's little talk probably had a little to do with that as well, aside from the more beefier gameplay reveals and smaller-scale announcements than previous years.

Re: Sony to Announce New PS4 Games Daily Prior to E3 2018

drd7of14

@get2sammyb

June 7th: I was thinking (if not Dreams) then either Patapon 2 or Medievil.

June 10th: I'm with you on Beat Saber, but the other PSVR game that's gone pretty silent and was suppoesdly coming out by the end of Q2 was Torn. That was an interesting looking game, so that could be the one coming out Sunday. I'd still prefer Beat Saber though. lol

Other dates/games, no idea. But those are my thoughts for the June 7th/10th titles.

Re: God of War PS4 is On Track to Amass 1 Billion YouTube Views in Record Time

drd7of14

@Octane Yeah, that was kinda what I was getting at with it. But I wouldn't knock them out entirely either. God of War did some incredible stuff, with top of the line quality. I'd be curious to see if anyone can top them this year in that front. But Game of the Year is also about what people enjoyed most throughout the year, along with what is clearly "The Best". 10/10 don't always win GOTY...Though there's certainly crossover, of course.

I just can't write off things entirely I haven't played. But right now, God of War is the Rocky Balboa of 2018. Just gotta wait to see who's gonna be the Creed.

Re: God of War PS4 is On Track to Amass 1 Billion YouTube Views in Record Time

drd7of14

@GKO900 The only main competition I can think of right now, would be Smash Bros. (which while likely to be great, I can't imagine taking the GOTY), Kingdom Hearts 3 (if it comes out), and Spider-Man (which still needs to prove it's a 10/10 as opposed to an 8/10).

But you're not wrong. These 1st 5 months, I would say it's the indisputable champion. Haven't played Yakuza 6 or Ni No Kuni 2 thus far...But a GOTY should do something special, and God of War is definitely that.

Detroit was a masterpiece as well, but it'd be tough giving it the edge over God of War being that it's (and I hate saying this) more of a game. I look forward to other games trying to take Kratos' crown within these next 6-7 months.

Re: Neko Atsume PSVR Is So Cute It's Gone Viral

drd7of14

I seriously might need to get this. Any method to have an even exchange of USD to YEN PSN credit? I expect to have a little left over on the account, but ¥2,000 Yen sounds fine.

Just don't wanna pay like $30 for it, when it's near $20.

Might wait till e3 ends, just in the small chance we get this gem too.

Re: Guide: The Best PSone Games We Want on a PlayStation Classic Mini

drd7of14

I'd probably add in something like Star Wars: Racer and Parasite Eve personally, but it's a pretty nice list.

What I would expect from SONY is a larger collection of games. Probably closer to the 20 range, if they were to do it all. They are all about justifying that value. If it was at 10 games, I think they'd go for the $70-$80 price range. 20 games they'd hit $100.

It'd be more interesting if they released some huge Classics collection that included PS1/PS2/PSP/PSV titles or something like that though. A huge assortment of games.

Titled: The PlayStation Classic [Mini]

Re: Days Gone Takes the Broken Road to Game Informer Cover Story

drd7of14

@LieutenantFatman Totally agree. And I'm not saying some "series" haven't done enough to deviate from the traditional Zombie archetype, as movies have. We either get Romero or 28 Days Later Zombies the majority of the time. Like, Dead Rising and killing zombies eventually gets old. But if they're telling an engaging story, like TLOU, it's way more easy to forgive. Plus...They actually made significant changes to the "zombie" as an enemy.

Re: Days Gone Takes the Broken Road to Game Informer Cover Story

drd7of14

@LieutenantFatman

Resident Evil 0 2002
Resident Evil 1 2002

Resident Evil 4 2005

Resident Evil Chornicles 2007

Resident Evil 5 2009

Dead Nation 2010

Dead Island 2011

Resident Evil Revelations 1 2012
Resident Evil 6 2012
Zombi 2012

7 Days to Die 2013
Outlast 2013

The Last of Us Remastered 2014

Dying Light 2015
Zombie Army Trilogy 2015
Resident Evil Revelations 2 2015

Dead Rising 4 2016
Killing Floor 2 2016
Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 2016

Resident Evil 7 2017

Call of Duty Zombie modes 2008-2018
Telltale The Walking Dead games 2012-2018
Metal Gear Survive 2018

I mean, that may seem like a lot, but the 2-5 zombie games a year trend has been pretty consistent for like 10 years. There's not more than their used to be, any more so than the dozens of indie games from any genre/theme. Survival games, there's dozens in a year, whether zombie or not. Shooters, we get at least 2 a year with EA/Activision, Racing Games, we're almost drowning some years...It's not unusual. Even if you were speaking specifically to horror, I'd disagree. But with zombies, it's even less so.

And let's be honest, there's a difference between PvZ and Resident Evil. One is actual Zombies, while the other could really be anything...That's just a cute skin, which while fun, isn't essential to the core mechanic of the game. Take Zombies out of RE, and the entire plot doesn't work, nor the world they've created.

Zombie's aren't a genre, true. But that doesn't mean it's reasonable to apply it to anything that says "zombies" in the title. Though I agree, I could see why public perception could be that there are "Too Many Zombies", it's not really accurate.

Seperating those by year, removing remasters/ports, and taking only games this generation...It doesn't look like that many per year, and that's without labeling the good/bad ones, or separating by gameplay genre. Cause Zombies, is just not a genre, it's a sub-theme to Horror.

Re: Days Gone Takes the Broken Road to Game Informer Cover Story

drd7of14

@Octane It would be interesting. SONY has been hard out on large scall online Multiplayer experiences though for the past few years. Sure, some games have online modes like Hot Shots. But they're not nearly as intense as MAG, Resistance, or Killzone as far as matchmaking is concerned.

I'm not against it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Re: Days Gone Takes the Broken Road to Game Informer Cover Story

drd7of14

@get2sammyb Totally agree. Actually, I would say most zombie games are twin stick shooters, silly spoofs, Shooter modes in games, or mobile.

Pretty sure this is much different. It's not like SONY have proven otherwise this generation. Their bar of quality is at an all time high. I don't expect Sony Bend to be any different when it comes to Days Gone.

Plus, Sam is fun! Time to be Starkiller again...Except on a motorcylcle. An no force powers. And no lightsaber...Or is there?

Re: April PlayStation Plus Games Announced

drd7of14

Nice...I already have the 2 PS4 games, but they're a great month regardless.

Honestly, for maybe the 1st time in a while both GWG and Plus have a great month to their respective titles. Round of applause all around.

Re: Ex-Mass Effect and ANTHEM Writer Leaves BioWare for Second Time

drd7of14

Maybe people figured he'd be sticking as lead writer for Anthem, but Drew Karpyshyn seems to always worked as contractors on a game by game basis.

If the story is pretty much all fleshed out, which by this point it really should be, I don't think it's that weird for him to leave to continue pursuing his other passions, as he did after Mass Effect was wrapped up for him.

He has written Mass Effect books, so I wouldn't be surprised if he started working on an Anthem book as well.

Otherwise, they have other writers to continue Anthem's future updates/content, if it's heavy on writing or not (who can say). I would say that if the Creative Director left Bioware, then it'd be more concerning at this point in production.
