Re: Sony Confirms PS5 Media Apps, Explains Dedicated Entertainment Space

Woogy

@GamingFan4Lyf What an odd decision on Microsoft's part given it's the 21st century.

Until you said it, I wouldn't have believed it. It appears Microsoft has been relying on an IR blaster/remote to initiate turning on other devices.

Strange.

Now I know it, I apologise if my initial response to you sounded pompous or sneering, I certainly didn't mean it that way.

Re: Sony Confirms PS5 Media Apps, Explains Dedicated Entertainment Space

Woogy

@thedevilsjester I believe the issues you are experiencing must be down to your choice of TV.

I've an LG C9 OLED, all apps are up to date and it displays everything better than Apple TV and a Shield, both of which I tried and returned as they offer no improvement over the TV.

So, my point is still valid. The less obstacles in the way from source to screen, the better the experience.

The only reason to use a connected media device is if you have a 'dumb TV'.

Re: Sony Confirms PS5 Media Apps, Explains Dedicated Entertainment Space

Woogy

If the PS5 doesn't utilise Atmos or Dolby Vision then there is zero point in using the PS5 as a media center and/or any of the apps available via it.

Stick to the built-in apps on your smart TV that is capable of all of the above (assuming your TV is equally capable of higher resolution formats) and will also display content natively in its correct resolution.

And @GamingFan4Lyf all modern electronics should use consumer electronic control (CEC). If it ever fails you or doesn't initiate the TV turning on in turn when you power up a connected component in your video chain, it is highly likely you just need to reestablish the handshakes.

A simple power cycle (power everything down at the wall for thirty seconds) will solve this for you by reestablishing handshakes all round .

Re: PS5's User Interface Runs in Native 4K with HDR

Woogy

What genius thought this is a good idea to have it in HDR?

Just because they can, doesn't mean they should.

Completely unnecessary and I hope an option that can be disabled.

I like games in HDR but, don't want or need this on my OLED.

Re: Poll: How Often Will You Use PS5 Backwards Compatibility?

Woogy

I gave my pre-order away to my friends for their boy due to the lack of games at launch that appeal to me.

I couldn't justify shelling out £450 just to play games that I can play on the Pro I already own.

And if there isn't more games available by February (when I'll be getting the PS5 as a gift) that appeal to me, I may only be playing backwards compatible games then.

Re: Which SSD Drives Will Be Compatible With PS5?

Woogy

Sony announced the PS5 would feature expandable storage during its first technical overview, although has since held off recommending users go out and purchase an NVMe SSD.

So, this article is more than a little previous.

You purchase additional drives prior to release at your peril.

Re: This Is How NBA 2K21 Looks on PS5

Woogy

There's been no mention of games, any game, in any of the more dynamic HDR formats such as Dolby Vision.

Games on the next gen consoles should be running at 60fps as standard, that should be a given, not a surprise.

Each day I'm certain I made the right decision to give my pre-order away.

Re: This Is What a Bloodborne PS5 Remaster Could Look Like

Woogy

@Medic_Alert There is no benefit to remasters. They're just a lazy way of making more coin.

There are way too many titles being trotted out as the emperors new clothes. This generation is blighted with them.

You won't find remasters or similar in my collection. I abhor the practise.

Re: PS5 Pre-Orders Are Live on UK Retailer Box Right Now

Woogy

I tried to pre-order with Box, their webpage couldn't handle the traffic, paid the deposit and page wouldn't load.

Tried it again and now I've received two confirmation of order emails from Box with different order numbers.

I've just contacted their customer service via email to explain and ask they cancel one pre-order.

I have no inclination nor desire to profit from a pre-order or deny someone a potential Christmas gift. I couldn't have that on my conscience.

Knowing my luck, they cancel both .

Re: Rumour: Prince of Persia Remake Planned for Ubisoft Livestream

Woogy

@naruball It makes absolute sense. I can't make my point any clearer using English.

The PS4 platform is riddled with lazy remakes/ remasters of games from platforms of the past.

Copying the Hollywood tradition of remaking, entirely unnecessarily, old films or films that do not need to be remade.

Just look at how many Spiderman films there's been in the past twenty years for example.

I don't like the thought of the gaming industry copying the film industry but, it's too late. It's here and happening.

I like to see more original, new games not remade games.

A perfectly valid point and an opinion I'm entitled to.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima - One of the Greatest Open World Games of the Generation

Woogy

@ShogunRok I have been considering a second play-though of TLOU 2, now my nerves are calming and not so shredded.

Your review has given me food for thought though and I'm tempted to invest in Ghosts.

Always the same question; as an OLED owner, can you please confirm the presence of a HUD? And if so, is it permanent or appear on and off, as action dictates?

And finally, assuming there is a HUD, is it possible to dim it down please?

Thanks in advance .

Re: Guide: Is Disney+ Available on PS4?

Woogy

@potter32 And yet you felt compelled to sign in and post about how bored you are. Interesting.

If you have a smart TV, seek out the Disney+ app on that and sing in, rather than via your PS4, for access to Dolby Vision content, subject to availability and your TV's capabilities.

The app on your TV will also output source material at the correct frame rates. Not sure the PS4 can do that.

At the moment, due to Disney+ throttling bitrates, the same as Youtube, Neflix and Prime, Atmos isn't available on all content, despite stating it is.

Which won't matter if watching via your PS4.

Re: Could PSN Be Restricted to Save Internet Bandwidth?

Woogy

This is something being implemented Europe wide but, in the UK, it isn't necessary. BT have made it clear the infrastructure can handle the additional traffic.

It really should be something discussed at national level between content providers and operators and not imposed on an entire continent.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on the PlayStation Plus Price Increase?

Woogy

Well I've just bought a further twelve months from a certain online retailer named after a river for £35 as Sony say it will stack (it's not due for renewal until December) but doubt I will renew it ever after that.

The amount of games they offer that are of any interest to me via PS Plus has been limited to Rocket League & Until Dawn (which I haven't played yet).

The only benefit I can see I get is the system auto update feature... maybe I'll cancel that back order thinking about it.
