For the most part, it's probably a good idea to avoid dogs in The Last of Us: Part II. Once their owners let them loose, they can quickly catch up to Ellie and rip her throat out. It's a completely different story in real life though. Say hello to the lovely dogs who mocapped for Naughty Dog's latest masterpiece.
In the image above, from left to right, we have Winnie, Moxie, Kippy, and Stetson. Shared by lead animator Jeremy Yates on Twitter, the technology was also used to replicate the movement of a deer during certain scenes. What's more, Jeremy shared a quick clip of one of the dogs in action. Aren't they all just adorable? Which one is your favourite? Take your pick in the comments below.

The first article I've ever wanted to pet
#noregrets
Nope. Dont get me attatched. I'll feel bad 😂
Just remember folks:
"No animals were harmed during the making of this game"
It does make me want a follow-up article showing how they motion captured the dog kills in the game though. Perhaps with inanimate stand-in models or pure hand animation?
Aww!
😍
Let's be honest, if those dogs had been in the game all you would've been in danger of is having your face licked!
They are LOVELY
Now I feel worse for using the bow arrow on them lol. I killed one of the dogs while my 2 dogs were in the room the heard the cry, looked around the room then on me felt so bad, gave them a treat to say sorry.
Looks more friendly than the one in tlou 2
From left to right: stabbed. Shot. Burned. Axed.
I love dogs really.
As cute as this why were all the dogs in the game German Shepards/Alsatians? They had different breeds mocapping so couldve spiced it up ingame. I know the answer is probably time and money but i like different doggos in my games lol
I went through every one of them dogs like a wuhan butchers market.
Where's the scene of them ripping a person apart?
Really wish they would have stuck with, or at least added, the canine companion for Ellie. I know it would have been a huge pain and not necessarily added anything, and the dogs made the combat feel more frantic, but I really wanted to walk around the apocalypse with a doggo friend.
Which one was included in the Buckley/Alice Collector's Edition?
They are all lovely but if I had to pick I would probably say Moxie! What a job that is, I hope those dogs are getting a nice slice of the profit for the game
All the mocap floof.
If I meet them, I won’t want to kill them... even more than I already don’t want to
I tried to spare them but it became frustrating navigating around them just closed my eyes and throwed a molotov:( I dont enjoy killin dogs in games would have been nice if ellie or abbey got a canine companion who would travel with em
I always feel bad when I have to kill a dog that isn't attacking first - especially if I kill the dog's handler first! Attacking a whimpering dog that is blocking my progress feels so wrong - survival be damned.
Leaving a mine on your scent trail works well
It must bring a sense of pride for those who figure out how to win without killing a single dog in the game.
You can tell they are taking their job seriously
@Lyonjak Clever but sadistic.
I want to pet them... every last one of them.
They look nice until they're sitting at the side of your chair farting while you're eating.
Which one is naughty dog?
@Mostik actually the dog on the left is Kippy. She is the face for Petsmart dog food and was in the tv show Dirty John where she was pretty tough
@Turismo4GT My thoughts exactly. First thing that comes to mind is watching those slow mo video of dogs attacking water nozzles.
@Lyonjak This. The only use for the mines
Well, now i feel bad i keep shooting them.
I completed TLOU2 last night.
I am utterly, emotionally, exhausted.
I have been close to tears, so angry and swore more times than I care to remember.
Masterpiece.
I didnt want to, but I killed too many of them
