Re: Monster Hunter Wilds' Struggling Sales Drag Capcom Stock Price Through the Mud

VaultGuy415

They made a lot of mistakes. It was way too easy, the performance is too sloppy, the game isn't pretty much of the time, and the controls/mechanics don't incentivize exploration (which is a shame because the detailed environmental dynamics go to waste). They also didn't go out of their way to make multiplayer w/ friends seamless and hassle-free which is just an absurd thing to be stubborn about in 2025.

The low difficulty was the biggest mistake. I suspect they believed that low difficulty could catapult MH to Smash Brothers- or BOTW-tier sales and it was a huge miscalculation. They dumbed down a lot of the weapons, set enemy damage too low, AND set enemy HP very very low. For the first few months, you were given a Rathian time trial as a sop. When AT Rey Dau couldn't cart me on my first try, I threw up my hands and I've played maybe 5 or 10 hours since then. MH isn't addictive when it feels like the monsters aren't a threat, and if it isn't addictive it doesn't get the word of mouth needed for huge sales numbers.

They are still going to do an expansion, so I hope they learn from their mistakes. Bring back some of the weapon complexity, make the game challenging from day 1 of G-Rank, and fix the performance even if you have to dumb down the environment. Stick to the new approach to the story because it was actually quite good aside from Nata's dialogue.

The combo of AT Rey Dau being super easy and the performance actually getting worse broke the spell that MH cast on me over World and Rise. The game's map exploration doesn't really click, and you kind of run out of stuff to do quickly compared to the last gen. It all adds up to a sour feeling.

I'll go back eventually — and I admit 8-star Gore brought the correct difficulty — but it's disappointing to bounce off of a game in this series after ~100 hours (vs. 500+ over a period of years).

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Elden Ring Nightreign?

VaultGuy415

I played through most of Elden Ring at launch (Ranni ending) but found it exasperating and poorly balanced across builds and abilities vs. Dark Souls/BB. I was probably too stubborn and should have used the Rennala thingy to respec to something cheesier. But I'm not interested in the DLC or Nightreign as a result.

I'm hoping they go back to classic Souls-style maps someday (probably in vain)
