I will go back to Wilds but likely not until G-Rank approaches. Will be busy with Metroid, Yotei, and my backlog before that. The lack of difficulty prior to 9-star Gore was really disappointing.
I appreciate that this was intended to announce a JP-only price drop, but every reminder of how badly Sony has botched the PS5 game pipeline reinforces disappointment
Nothing makes Todd Howard happier than a day where he's actively preventing New Vegas 2 while working on a bland & mediocre storyline for Starfield (aka nearly every day of his life since 2015)
The open world isn't worth exploring. The Story Mode difficulty ruins the gameplay loop. And the dumbed-down mechanics are just boring. I'm enjoying 9-star hunts on the occasions I revisit my PC copy, but World 2 would have been a blockbuster. I suspect the bean counters at Capcom will push the franchise in that direction.
It's so strange to me that MS paid $7.5B for Bethesda in order to stand idly by while Todd continues to make choices that are bad for business and bad for players
They made a lot of mistakes. It was way too easy, the performance is too sloppy, the game isn't pretty much of the time, and the controls/mechanics don't incentivize exploration (which is a shame because the detailed environmental dynamics go to waste). They also didn't go out of their way to make multiplayer w/ friends seamless and hassle-free which is just an absurd thing to be stubborn about in 2025.
The low difficulty was the biggest mistake. I suspect they believed that low difficulty could catapult MH to Smash Brothers- or BOTW-tier sales and it was a huge miscalculation. They dumbed down a lot of the weapons, set enemy damage too low, AND set enemy HP very very low. For the first few months, you were given a Rathian time trial as a sop. When AT Rey Dau couldn't cart me on my first try, I threw up my hands and I've played maybe 5 or 10 hours since then. MH isn't addictive when it feels like the monsters aren't a threat, and if it isn't addictive it doesn't get the word of mouth needed for huge sales numbers.
They are still going to do an expansion, so I hope they learn from their mistakes. Bring back some of the weapon complexity, make the game challenging from day 1 of G-Rank, and fix the performance even if you have to dumb down the environment. Stick to the new approach to the story because it was actually quite good aside from Nata's dialogue.
The difficulty is decent now but it was way too easy for too long. The story mode difficulty of the main campaign makes Wilds hard to fall in love with compared to 5th gen
I will not miss downloading games I don't want to play for forty cents USD. Or missing out on points because I bought a game at launch rather than week 3. At the same time, it's a shame that Sony can't find a way to reward regular users of its overpriced app store
This is an excellent remaster that drives people completely insane. Bummed that I Platinumed it already because "Journeyman mode" would have made for the perfect playthrough.
The combo of AT Rey Dau being super easy and the performance actually getting worse broke the spell that MH cast on me over World and Rise. The game's map exploration doesn't really click, and you kind of run out of stuff to do quickly compared to the last gen. It all adds up to a sour feeling.
I'll go back eventually — and I admit 8-star Gore brought the correct difficulty — but it's disappointing to bounce off of a game in this series after ~100 hours (vs. 500+ over a period of years).
If you complain about $80 games AND you throw a connipiton fit over occasional frame drops, you are a jerk and should find a different hobby. One or the other, please.
I was pretty happy with the at-long-last appropriate difficulty for 8-star Tempered Gore Magala; hopefully the rebalancing in TU2 continues in that direction. Also happy with the quick timing on this next update.
I played through most of Elden Ring at launch (Ranni ending) but found it exasperating and poorly balanced across builds and abilities vs. Dark Souls/BB. I was probably too stubborn and should have used the Rennala thingy to respec to something cheesier. But I'm not interested in the DLC or Nightreign as a result.
I'm hoping they go back to classic Souls-style maps someday (probably in vain)
It started okay, but disappointed me overall. The brutally long tail of consequences from Dim Jim. Good thing that 2025 is shaping up to be a bright year for third parties. Pragmata looks cool, at least.
TLOU2 had a lousy story because Neil D. didn't have Bruce Straley as adult supervision. Shame that its perfect gameplay was bogged down by the grim, tedious script. It's no surprise that the show has gone on to also suck

Re: Gran Turismo 7's Power Pack DLC Is a $30 PS5 Add-On
This game rules on PSVR2. That said I'll probably wait for a sale given my backlog rn
Re: 'The Fans' Voices Gave Us Power': Monster Hunter Wilds Dev Admits to Difficulties After Awards Show Win
@Broosh LR Anjanath is harder than anything the Wilds base game. Diablos and Teostra, too. Rise was easy, yes, especially if you spam silkbinds.

Pacific Drive is massively underrated. My GOTY for last year. Enjoy!

Re: Poll: Is Fallout 4 Underrated, 10 Years Later?
It doesn't deserve the hate it gets from some folks and compared to Starfield it's Tolstoy.

Re: Sony's Bluepoint Studio Recruiting for Third-Person Melee Action Game
Sony completely wasting Bluepoint after they put out a brilliant launch title for PS5 is the most frustrating thing about this gen for me
Re: Rumoured PS5 Showcase Seems Set for Next Week
Nothing that gets announced anytime soon
Re: Rumoured PS5 Showcase Seems Set for Next Week
@PuppetMaster There is no Bluepoint game, just the shelved live service GoW game.
Also "Bloodborne remake?" written on a whiteboard somewhere in the building
Re: Rumoured PS5 Showcase Seems Set for Next Week
I'll bet ya 689 PS Stars points it's a SoP focused on third-party titles

Agreed, quite right
Re: Oblivion Remastered Still Broken and Buggy on PS5, Even After Patch 1.2
Platinumed it on PS5 Pro, had a lot of fun. Seems really weird/forced to be in an uproar about jank in a BETHESDA GAME

@Lowdefal Damn bro. Preach. I like hunting the odd Platinum but I believe that to be a mental disease on my part

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds 1.020 Out Now on PS5, Full Title Update 2 Patch Notes Revealed
I'm horrified by this "buffs only" approach to balancing weapon DPS. The game is already so easy that World is beating its player count regularly.
Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 Drops Next Week, Full Patch Notes Revealed
@B0udoir Same here. Expedition 33 & DS2 are gonna be my focus this summer and then I'll see where Wilds is at after TU3 or 4
Re: Microsoft Rivals PSVR2 with Meta Quest 3S Xbox Headset
@Jacko11 PSVR2 fan here. It is really, really bad that Sony went one-and-done on first-party games for it and this site is right to criticize that
Re: Microsoft Rivals PSVR2 with Meta Quest 3S Xbox Headset
BS partnership. Purpose: enable middle managers at Facebook & Microsoft to appear busy for their quarterly performance reviews
Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About The Last of Us Part 2, 5 Years Later?
10/10 gameplay, 2/10 story; a grim tedious slog. Not a fan of Neil. Absolutely unbelieveable that we never got multiplayer.
Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Most Anticipated PS5 Games for the Second Half of 2025?
Really just Ghost (and Metroid Prime 4 which doesn't count)
Honorable mentions: System Shock 2 bc I never played it way back when. DS2 even though the story will be bad. Hell Is Us even if I hate the title

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Elden Ring Nightreign?
@crackeastwood Elden Ring's launch performance on PC still makes me shudder. Much, much, much worse than Oblivion Remastered or Monster Hunter Wilds
