Xbox Game Studios

As part of today's Microsoft layoffs within the Xbox division, it has been shared that five first-party developers are either being let go to return to independence, sold off to someone else, or are looking at other avenues.

The studios and their fates are:

In the internal memo from Asha Sharma, it's revealed none of the games it's publicly announced are cancelled: "None of our first party publicly announced games or projects are being cancelled as part of these reductions."

This means games such as State of Decay 3 and Blade remain in active development; there are agreements and funding in place to make sure they release.

Sharma said in a message to staff:

Since 2018, we have aggressively expanded our studio portfolio while the number of games we have created each month across the industry now outpaces the last ten years combined. We now find ourselves competing not only with the largest publishers, but also with smaller independent studios. It is neither possible nor desirable to own every great independent studio.
