Sony Ip helps sell their ecosystem. With competitor machines trying to become PC consoles, it would would make sense to pull back from releasing anything except multi player games from PC and reserve your Ips to help promote your own platform. Sonys titles on Pc have not sold gangbuster numbers, and while this may have been considered almost free money in previous years, they will calculate its not worth it if it dilute the appeal of its own platform. Thats how I see it, so I have time for this rumour no matter how vague.
Now Ive finally finished the wonderful Yotei, Im looking for something new to commit some time too.
I haven't even looked at the new Mario Kart or Donkey Kong on switch 2 yet, so maybe its time. Id also like to play Outer Worlds 2 on series x.. But I have Miles Morales installed on the ps5...

Your never gonna give up your ps5 for one as its likely to run AAA games significantly worse than one and cost more than a pro.
But, as an ancillary machine that lets you play all those cheap AA indie titles that often just remain on steam, its has a real attraction. I have a high power big tower pc but never use it for games as its just not the same experience for me. The ability to just pick up a controller, switch on and play in no time in on the big telly is appealing, especially as reports suggest the machine is not noisy at all. Work my current gpu and all the fans turn up and it becomes a heater, wouldnt have that under the telly, so this unit appeals. It will be pricey, but Im still interested, but not at the expense of the PS5, thats going nowhere.
@Zeke6 87 million is lifetime sales of PS3. In order to compare how a console's sales is doing, sales need to be time aligned. @themightyant has provided data for after 5 years in an earlier post, so we can make a relevant comparison.
@Rich33 Whilst I agree with your statement, it's also true that people would not have abandoned that platform in quite the same way if there had not been a compelling and decent platform that was an alternative. Shooting themselves in the foot caused people to look elsewhere. Decent state of PS5 gaming has provided an option! That's how I see it anyway 👍
This has been a great gen for Sony. Despite making bad bets on live service, they have still brought successful IPs and negotiated strong titles from 3rd parties to keep the hardware selling well and on the hardware front, they've oblterated their main rival. Given the spike in sales expected next year once gta6 finally ships, its clear the PS5 will be a very successful gen for them.
Delighted its sold so well and it clearly deserves it. Those people who wish to boycot based on over exaggerated claims over some people who helped make it, must spend their entire lives boycotting almost all media consumption. Unless a company is unrepresentative, it will have the full spectrum of people helping to make it, and humans are diverse and not programmed by online hate bubbles. I try to celebrate human differences rather than hate and only show concern if an agenda is being overly pushed into a title. I can see the concern with some titles, but having finished Yotei, there is absolutely no such false agenda I would be concerned about here and it appears the hate directed towards it was misdirected. The world is fractured and full of hate and war already without dragging that into the gaming world.
Thats excellent news! Sounds like they will have a lot to show, and I do love Jap and Asian devs - they do things you wouldnt see from a western developer....

I bounced off the first one, but Id be silly to miss the chance to try this one while Im back on game pass. Intend to get some more races in on Test drive solar crown and get started on wreckreation too (daft name but the racing seems to feel fun)

I believe Yotei is better in every way. I enjoyed Tsushima a lot, so it had to be excellent to clear an already high bar and, for me, it did. I found Jin pretty forgettable and certainly wasnt that keen on having him back. It takes a while early game to 'get' Atsu, but as the story unfolds I find her to be a more engaging and memorable character too. No right or wrong of course. Its interesting to see the breadth of opinion.

We use ours in the house where its been flawless. It feels like a controller in the hand and is infinitely better than using a tablet or phone. These tend to sell once someone has had a chance to use one and experience just how good it is. Its priced less than most premium controllers. Its sold well because a small proportion of PS users have a need for it and it works. A platform holder giving you a choice is not a bad thing, if you dont desire one just move on.
@MidnightDragonDX I think you missed that this is PS Store charts freind. Either way BF6 is getting a lot of coverage for all platforms and certainly has a longer legacy than Ghost, so I dont find it that suprising either.
All I really wanted was the ability to log in as a different user on startup like on any other system. Its ridiculous you still cant without jumping through hoops. However, this is good functionality for those that care. Mine is never used outside the house, so much as I approve it does nothing for me as I can stream all these games anyway with my PS premium account.
@somnambulance You and me both mate. I love jrpgs, I like the style and Im rooting for a small team and love the devs story. But Expedition 33 just didnt do it for me, and not just because of the tiresome repetitive and annoying parry gameplay, I actually cheered when we 'lost' the first player character, as I absolutely hated him. I didn't nt even rate the music (sacrilege for many I know) Maybe Ill try again one day and understand why people love it with such passion, but having tried to like for 40 hours Im not feeling in a hurry to try again. For now it will be Ghost that gets the nod from me, but theres a few little indies like Ball x Pit which run it close 😃
More Ghost of Yotei, it really is excellent. Gave my wife a Switch 2 mid week as it was her birthday, so hopefully we will play mario kart world or donkey kong. I took a punt on test drive solar crown as it was dead cheap and once you work past the cringe and accept the sub par map, theres actually quite a lot of fun to be had exploring the map.

I didnt enjoy the first one and never completed it. I also don't like the aesthetics here - its personal taste but I think it looks awful, hate the material design and the whole design concept. So no, I don't want to play this one, but I hope that those that do have a great time.
I think that the main idea here is not just one form of social media, but the 'TikTok' generation, which have been shown to have very low attention spans and barely consume any media that's longer than a few minutes.
It's going to be hard for traditional media companies to get this generation on board, and that's everyone, from Sony and Microsoft to Netflix and Paramount. How do you hold the attention of someone with the attention span of a fly?

As for Microsoft, they appear to be making PCs from now on. I have 5 pcs in the house and hardly ever play a game on one. Im consoles all the way and I dont find Microsofts windows gaming attractive at all. Arguments about what makes them money are also irrelevant to me, Im not a shareholder, Im a console gamer and right now they got nothing for me unless I pay for GP which I will never do at that price. Never say never, but one thing I know is that MS rarely deliver what they promise without a catch. Now I can get the odd title I want from them on PS, Ive no need for the console, but if they make anything compelling in the future I can think about it then 👍 I just replaced the series x with a switch 2, so I can play the odd ninty title we wont see elsewhere. Im sorted.

The races are much better. Particularly in Fortune Island DLC. There is still some sense of progress and your not given a garage full of cars without working for it like you are in FH5.You actually have to work to earn cars you'd like to race which provides a satisfaction you never feel in FH5. There's more traffic on the roads, which I like.
Lastly, it's in the UK with roads and places I can relate too - I accept this is personnel and will vary from person to person though.
I'm not alone in feeling this. Most people who have played the Forza Horizon games since the beginning will agree that they peaked with FH4.
None of this stops FH5 being a fantastic title though in its own right, and well worth the play. Especially if you are on PS5 and it's the only one you have access too.
Im all over this one. Played forza 5 to completion (including both dlc) three times now (pc, series x, ps5) and theres not much left I want to do. I much prefered Forza 4 anyway.
But theres room in my life for more open world racing (why would I stick with just one?), and as I simply dont mesh with this sites reviews very often, they rarely stop me from looking at a new title.
Id have loved a Burnout 3 style game with crashmode, but I think its getting much harder to sell that style of game to the masses, so Ill take this as I enjoyed paradise as well, just not as much.
@Skippermonkey Im exactly the same mate, feels weird but theres no longer a series x under my telly. It was for GP, but Ill never pay £24 a month to rent a few games, most of which Id never have bought. With no more exclusives, it just doesnt make any sense to have one any more, so Ive bought into switch 2 instead, which does have some exclusives Id like to play. Ive always had an xbox, but they've been killing the brand for years now and the ABK acquisition saw them become a big publisher rather than a platform holder. If your a shareholder for MS, no worries they will make plenty of cash as a 3rd party publisher, but for the rest of us who just want a console, they have become irrelevant. Sad, but they wont care...
Im carrying on with Yotei which is very involving and Im loving every minute. I've also taken a look at test drive solar crown as its £17 in the sale and on season 4, so its had a lot of updates. If you can make it through the god awful opening 20 minutes and overlook some pretty rough elements, the actual racing and island to explore are pretty fun. Im also starting out in Skate and like what Ive seen so far.

It needs to bbe cheap if theres no multiplayer. My fave in this series was Halo 2, so Ill keep my fingers crossed they give that a similar treatment...
@Northern_munkey As long as you have a good tv, 4k vrr 120hz of a decent size, and your not in need of new glasses, then I think its a no brainer. I did this stuff for a living so its a given I notice improvements, but my wife and a few freinds all noticed the difference too. Its a more pleasing form factor, 2tb on board is really helpful and with several titles its really chalk and cheese with clearly higher res and some rt options you dont get on the standard. We have 2 tvs and two ps5s in our lounge, so it was really easy to compare differences when I got one on release. The pro was always top image quality. it was such a no brainer for us that we upgraded the second ps5 too and now run two pros. I get very motion sick on vr unfortunately, but my close freind has one and assures me the unit works much better with a pro where the extra res is really noticable. If you are a gamer who is happy enough with 1080p and 30hz gaming (and theres nothing wrong with that) then it really isnt for you. But if you notice the difference and like to play games the best you can, then the pro is currently the pinnicle of console performance and likely to remain that way for at least the next couple of years. Get it from Amazon, play for a weekend and if your not really feeling it just tell em you changed your mind and send it back. I suspect you will be very happy though - just try Forza 5. Let me know how you get on!

@johndoe89 Its due to recieve some significant updates next year and has already had two minor ones. The issue with some lumin rt features not always working with Pssr is well known now and its a big oversight that Obsidian did not allow for this and leave the default upscaler in place till they had time to look. Pro would still have ran faster at higher res with standard ps5 code, so it seems a little amateurish to not have done a more considered pro mode, or indeed none at all. I assume you are unaware that you can leave your machine in 'rest mode' and it can update games and OS overnight so your code is up to date when you want to play? My machines are always in rest mode.
@Medic_alert Re affordability: we had previously had a discussion where I had shown both games and hardware are actually slightly cheaper now than when ps4 launched in 2013 and you had commented its a shame wages hadnt kept up. I showed that in the uk wages were actually growing above inflation and you mentioned it had not for you in public service. I offered my sympathy and understanding as I now work for a public service helping the homeless and had also had rubbish wage increases. Having reread that conversation earlier I assumed finances were tight and that may have have been a driver behind your current disappointment.. sorry if I read that wrong. @MrStark If you have a ps5, you will know the game state is saved if you go into rest mode. Turn back on and you are immediately exactly back where you were. You cant do multiple games like this because Microsoft has a patent on quick resume, but its perfect for a single game you are playing through.

When I see such big performance gains across the board, I assume people must be acting in bad faith when they make such a definitive comment as you did. Especially when my wife, who wasnt a dev for 2 decades, also notices the improvements without any prompting.
However, everyones experiences are clearly different, and while I may think its the most performant console Ive owned, you can state its the worst console you've owned too. The two statements are not mutually exclusive. Clearly you should not have bought one, especially when I know you are pushed for money.

@bazchillin I cant speak for the disc drives as I've been all digital for many years on Series X and PS5, but PS5 is completely silent in my experience. I've now had 4 ps5's (we use two and I've replaced both with Pro's) and had a series X plugged in next to a PS5. All of them are silent. Sadly my Series X was a GP machine and I'll not pay £24 a month for GP, so its been removed and I won't use it any further. I think the PS5 is a superior platform anyway and I've used dumping the series X as my excuse to buy a switch 2. There's a charity down the road to provide gaming to kids and I'm going to give the series X to them and hope they like it. I'll buy some games so I can provide some games for them too.

@somnambulance You and me both mate. I love jrpgs, I like the style and Im rooting for a small team and love the devs story. But Expedition 33 just didnt do it for me, and not just because of the tiresome repetitive and annoying parry gameplay, I actually cheered when we 'lost' the first player character, as I absolutely hated him. I didn't nt even rate the music (sacrilege for many I know) Maybe Ill try again one day and understand why people love it with such passion, but having tried to like for 40 hours Im not feeling in a hurry to try again.
For now it will be Ghost that gets the nod from me, but theres a few little indies like Ball x Pit which run it close 😃

More Ghost of Yotei, it really is excellent.
Gave my wife a Switch 2 mid week as it was her birthday, so hopefully we will play mario kart world or donkey kong.
I took a punt on test drive solar crown as it was dead cheap and once you work past the cringe and accept the sub par map, theres actually quite a lot of fun to be had exploring the map.

I didnt enjoy the first one and never completed it. I also don't like the aesthetics here - its personal taste but I think it looks awful, hate the material design and the whole design concept.
So no, I don't want to play this one, but I hope that those that do have a great time.

I think that the main idea here is not just one form of social media, but the 'TikTok' generation, which have been shown to have very low attention spans and barely consume any media that's longer than a few minutes.
It's going to be hard for traditional media companies to get this generation on board, and that's everyone, from Sony and Microsoft to Netflix and Paramount. How do you hold the attention of someone with the attention span of a fly?
But they all need to to have a future market..

@HonestHick No problem mate. I respect Shaun and remember him making that point, which is ultimately correct. You cant build a buisness for the future relying on old man gamers like me, eventually you need the gen with the attention span of a gnat, though I dont see how you can engage them to any media, they cant even watch a film!
As for Microsoft, they appear to be making PCs from now on. I have 5 pcs in the house and hardly ever play a game on one. Im consoles all the way and I dont find Microsofts windows gaming attractive at all. Arguments about what makes them money are also irrelevant to me, Im not a shareholder, Im a console gamer and right now they got nothing for me unless I pay for GP which I will never do at that price. Never say never, but one thing I know is that MS rarely deliver what they promise without a catch. Now I can get the odd title I want from them on PS, Ive no need for the console, but if they make anything compelling in the future I can think about it then 👍 I just replaced the series x with a switch 2, so I can play the odd ninty title we wont see elsewhere. Im sorted.
Im also not really bothered about Sonys future either. They have a good thing going right now and have been posting record profits last couple of years, so they will be making good consoles I can play all the best games on for plenty more time yet, maybe more time than I have...
So I see your point, but a sony site giving a pass to sony is no worse than a microsoft site giving a pass to microsoft. Its gonna happen and Im going to try hard to not let it bother me. Honestly mate, its best to just shake your head and move on, but I understand if you wish to point out the hypocrisy of many, just dont ever expect it to change!

@HonestHick Whilst its lovely of you to include me in your post, my only post on this thread is sympathising with someone whos got rid of his series X because I just did too. Absolutely nothing about this statement at all which I didnt remark upon as I see his point. I notice you included themightyant too, who specifically pointed out that the guy has a good point.
If your going to rebut a point of view, you should do so to those whom have shared it, this type of 'scatterbomb' reply is pointless when many of the people you are replying to already accept the point and have never stated otherwise?
So yes I accept your point, its a good one, but I always did accept it.

@Killionaire My preference for FH4 over FH5:
The races are much better. Particularly in Fortune Island DLC. There is still some sense of progress and your not given a garage full of cars without working for it like you are in FH5.You actually have to work to earn cars you'd like to race which provides a satisfaction you never feel in FH5. There's more traffic on the roads, which I like.
Lastly, it's in the UK with roads and places I can relate too - I accept this is personnel and will vary from person to person though.
I'm not alone in feeling this. Most people who have played the Forza Horizon games since the beginning will agree that they peaked with FH4.
None of this stops FH5 being a fantastic title though in its own right, and well worth the play. Especially if you are on PS5 and it's the only one you have access too.
I hope this explains my preference.

Im all over this one. Played forza 5 to completion (including both dlc) three times now (pc, series x, ps5) and theres not much left I want to do. I much prefered Forza 4 anyway.
But theres room in my life for more open world racing (why would I stick with just one?), and as I simply dont mesh with this sites reviews very often, they rarely stop me from looking at a new title.
Id have loved a Burnout 3 style game with crashmode, but I think its getting much harder to sell that style of game to the masses, so Ill take this as I enjoyed paradise as well, just not as much.

@Skippermonkey Im exactly the same mate, feels weird but theres no longer a series x under my telly. It was for GP, but Ill never pay £24 a month to rent a few games, most of which Id never have bought. With no more exclusives, it just doesnt make any sense to have one any more, so Ive bought into switch 2 instead, which does have some exclusives Id like to play.
Ive always had an xbox, but they've been killing the brand for years now and the ABK acquisition saw them become a big publisher rather than a platform holder.
If your a shareholder for MS, no worries they will make plenty of cash as a 3rd party publisher, but for the rest of us who just want a console, they have become irrelevant. Sad, but they wont care...

Im carrying on with Yotei which is very involving and Im loving every minute.
I've also taken a look at test drive solar crown as its £17 in the sale and on season 4, so its had a lot of updates. If you can make it through the god awful opening 20 minutes and overlook some pretty rough elements, the actual racing and island to explore are pretty fun.
Im also starting out in Skate and like what Ive seen so far.

@Northern_munkey As long as you have a good tv, 4k vrr 120hz of a decent size, and your not in need of new glasses, then I think its a no brainer.
I did this stuff for a living so its a given I notice improvements, but my wife and a few freinds all noticed the difference too. Its a more pleasing form factor, 2tb on board is really helpful and with several titles its really chalk and cheese with clearly higher res and some rt options you dont get on the standard.
We have 2 tvs and two ps5s in our lounge, so it was really easy to compare differences when I got one on release. The pro was always top image quality. it was such a no brainer for us that we upgraded the second ps5 too and now run two pros.
I get very motion sick on vr unfortunately, but my close freind has one and assures me the unit works much better with a pro where the extra res is really noticable.
If you are a gamer who is happy enough with 1080p and 30hz gaming (and theres nothing wrong with that) then it really isnt for you. But if you notice the difference and like to play games the best you can, then the pro is currently the pinnicle of console performance and likely to remain that way for at least the next couple of years.
Get it from Amazon, play for a weekend and if your not really feeling it just tell em you changed your mind and send it back. I suspect you will be very happy though - just try Forza 5.

@johndoe89 Its due to recieve some significant updates next year and has already had two minor ones. The issue with some lumin rt features not always working with Pssr is well known now and its a big oversight that Obsidian did not allow for this and leave the default upscaler in place till they had time to look. Pro would still have ran faster at higher res with standard ps5 code, so it seems a little amateurish to not have done a more considered pro mode, or indeed none at all.
I assume you are unaware that you can leave your machine in 'rest mode' and it can update games and OS overnight so your code is up to date when you want to play? My machines are always in rest mode.

@Medic_alert Re affordability: we had previously had a discussion where I had shown both games and hardware are actually slightly cheaper now than when ps4 launched in 2013 and you had commented its a shame wages hadnt kept up. I showed that in the uk wages were actually growing above inflation and you mentioned it had not for you in public service. I offered my sympathy and understanding as I now work for a public service helping the homeless and had also had rubbish wage increases. Having reread that conversation earlier I assumed finances were tight and that may have have been a driver behind your current disappointment.. sorry if I read that wrong.

@MrStark If you have a ps5, you will know the game state is saved if you go into rest mode. Turn back on and you are immediately exactly back where you were. You cant do multiple games like this because Microsoft has a patent on quick resume, but its perfect for a single game you are playing through.

Off course Im not policing your comments, that was one of the reasons the comment needed deleting.
When I see such big performance gains across the board, I assume people must be acting in bad faith when they make such a definitive comment as you did. Especially when my wife, who wasnt a dev for 2 decades, also notices the improvements without any prompting.
However, everyones experiences are clearly different, and while I may think its the most performant console Ive owned, you can state its the worst console you've owned too. The two statements are not mutually exclusive. Clearly you should not have bought one, especially when I know you are pushed for money.
You are also not one of those who come here to hate everything, just the pro, and Id mistook you for some others who do engage in that. On that front I owe you an apology, Ill delete my post if you ask.

@bazchillin Yes mate, one of the reasons I went digital was to ensure no disc noise and its also the most likely part of a machine to fail (if we ignore stick drift!).
Thank you, yes Id rather make sure the machine goes somewhere it will get used and enjoyed. Gutted that its turned out this way for xbox, Ive always had one plugged in since the very first, but theres no reason for me to keep one any longer. Maybe when they make their pc box I'll jump back in

I worked for EA making AAA games for years and know first hand that they are the anthesis of creativity.
Nothing wrong with AI tools, it's about how you use them. But I guarantee that EA will use them in the worst possible way.

@bazchillin I cant speak for the disc drives as I've been all digital for many years on Series X and PS5, but PS5 is completely silent in my experience.
I've now had 4 ps5's (we use two and I've replaced both with Pro's) and had a series X plugged in next to a PS5. All of them are silent.
Sadly my Series X was a GP machine and I'll not pay £24 a month for GP, so its been removed and I won't use it any further. I think the PS5 is a superior platform anyway and I've used dumping the series X as my excuse to buy a switch 2.
There's a charity down the road to provide gaming to kids and I'm going to give the series X to them and hope they like it. I'll buy some games so I can provide some games for them too.
