'Absolutely Terrible Idea': Nobody Likes Sony's New PS Plus Experiment

Yeah this new method absolutely sucks as I keep forgetting what comes out when and what's already been out.
It worked really well before with the month being split with the normal Plus games at the beginning and then the Sub games a few weeks later.
I suppose the only one who's benefitted from this is Push Square as I've had to check so many times 😅

If I’m being honest I don’t like it. Double Exposure was the only game I wanted to play this month and I had to wait patiently. I suppose they are testing the Game Pass style of releasing, I just don’t feel like it’s for me.

If Sony put out an official poll to gather insight, I would definitely tell them to go back to how it was.

I usually don't play the games that immediately hit ps+ unless I'm really interested in them...which would make me all the more annoyed that I'd have to wait extra time to actually play them. What's even the point? It doesn't enhance the experience for the consumer in any way.

Gives you more time to complete a game than having all at once, the others will just sit there in your downloads otherwise

PS3 allowed us to sort our trophy lists alphabetically. PS4 took it away for no good reason. PS5 still hasn’t re enabled the option. But hey, let’s break something that was working fine instead of fixing what we broke almost two console generations ago.

This reminds me of the PS1 days when the US got releases before Europe

Let's be honest it's very much a first world problem isn't it.... that said I definitely prefer getting all the games at the same time.

It hasn't really impacted me yet because I don't really have any particular interest in the games offered this month.

It would be rather annoying though if I had to wait longer for a specific game

PlayStation need to fix the PS5 stuff

Recent activity is a mess, missing games from Player's game library
Changing license management (to only restore 10 at once)

PlayStation should engage with Players about changes to features or bugs that crop up
Rather than just ignoring us which they always do

All it does is cause friction and disdain from gamers

The gaming industry just feels that's it's in a rut. Bad decisions consistently with the consumer not even in mind.

Not sure why they changed it so the cynic in me always gets suspicious. Overall though there seems to be lots of massive overreaction to it so far, as per!

My only frustration so far is I quite fancy playing Farming Sim 25 and that’s one of the last to come out!

If you care about this then you have a very easy life and nothing else going on.

On one hand: Who cares?

On the other: The only reason for this I can imagine is trying to discourage game hoarding by requiring a higher level of engagement to redeem them all. So kinda anti-consumer.

Out of touch executives. Trying to justify that they play video games when all they do is business related stuff.

This new method is worse for the consumer as its going to lead to people missing out on claiming stuff. Especially if they are like myself and play one game at a time with sleep mode. I can go 2 weeks without ever looking at the welcome screen. So it sucks

I can see why they will be pushing it however even if i hate it, as it means users have to constantly keep checking back in to see what games are free currently. Engagement metrics really do suck but its what the industry resorts to in this current climate. If you can't cheer that you made more money you shift the goalposts and cheers something else.

Cmon now. Framing this as an experiment is a bit disingenuous. They made this change right around the time they made it even more expensive to subscribe periodically than it is to do an annual sub. This change along with the delayed releases is meant to force gamers to keep the sub active indefinitely.

Sony doesn't even try to pretend to care about the medium anymore. They just want to appease the investors by making you, the mark, pay for the generational failures with their live service bets.

Its dumb. It doesn't increase my engagement, only my frustration.

I've finally made it mum!

I could name half a dozen to a dozen noticeable disadvantages to this, racking my brains for any advantages for Sony.

Only thing I can offer is perhaps they think those that subscribe on a monthly basis may renew for a second month when they wouldn't otherwise have done if they've got two games them wanted to play at either end of the month. But even then, that's an incredibly niche scenario and if you were smart about it you'd just wait until the latter game is out before subbing.

I don't see how it increases engagement either, i'm still going to engage the exact same amount, it's just forcing the engagement to be spread out

I don’t like it. I get why they want the change but to me it’s a waste of time checking every week. At least the way before we could just download what we want and not everyone is going to speed run games to jump into the next game as soon as it’s added

The new format is too complicated, just release everything all at once & give the fans the choice of what to play.

PS+ Extra/Premium and Gamepass should die. They are really complicated, they are expensive and also costly to mantain, they don’t offer anything of value for the industry.

Essential is fine but it should be cheaper.

This just seems really convoluted.

I'm guessing they see a big surge in logins to the PSN website every month when the games are released and the rest of the month it's dead. This is Sony trying to drive people to look at their storefront more often.

@Klaptrap PlayStation hasn't really engaged with players since the PS4.

Gamepass always has me logging in each week to see a new selection of titles.

I never look ahead or give a monkeys about leaks, so it's always a nice surprise as to what I will find when I load it up.

I quite like it.

If you are given a list at the start of the month and told "you can't have this title for three weeks though", I can sort of see why some of you would be annoyed.

But then most of you don't share my utter hatred and disdain for these garbage vapourware events like State of Plays. You all seem to enjoy those, but it's literally the same thing: "here is a game but haha eat poo losers, you can't play it for 18 months".

The ONLY consumer benefit to stretching out the release of games is if they're also stretching out the announcements, so every week or two there's another addition announced.

If they announce them all at once (like they did this month) but scatter the releases through the month, the only other benefit is reduced load on their servers from people downloading games on different days, rather than all of them downloading on or near the same release day.

Put whatever game(s) you're interested in on your wishlist, then you'll get a notification when it's available on the sub.

Barring sticking with the previous method, it'd make more sense to let players decide which of the options they'd like to have access to first... At least then it's not a potential waiting game for the title we most have interest in playing.

Unless there are technical issues all Plus Games should be available the same day of each month, and in the first week of that month. This month, June, has 3 Plus games released on the 30th, that's just one day shy of July.

The difference with GP is you get more games than extra/premium and a lot more shadow drops AND a lot more launch games like 60+ a year, so no, it's not the same. Sony have done it for engagement and to try and stop people dropping the subs for a month here and there, that's the experiment.

I just get so incredibly exhausted by modern video gaming discourse. This is such a minor thing and I really don't see anything fundamentally wrong with it. There's pros and cons to either delivery method. Yet immediately you get reactions like "TERRIBLE, I'm confused and angry!" and "most anti-consumer thing of all time", etc. It's just so, so tiresome.

What happened to talking like normal human beings? Why does all discourse have to be on the extreme ends of the spectrum? Why is everyone always outraged at the smallest pebble on the road? I'm tired Robbie.

We all love games, but these people really need to calm down and evaluate their priorities in life, that hopefully includes things other than a gaming console.

Unless you’re desperate to play something as soon as possible just log in at the end of the month and download them all. Just effectively means the release date has changed.

The staggered approach gives you time to download and play the game before the next drops rather than being overwhelmed with a big dump, downloading all and playing none of them

Welp after years and years of reupping my PS+ Extra I finally decided to let it lapse. I'll wait for a deep discount at the least but this kind of decision by Sony does not help me want to come back.

Wow they really want people that engaged, that seems a bit tedious and pathetic. This doesn't effect me but even I'd say "No, I preferred it when we got everything at once" Waiting on the one you want and especially ones at the end of the month and the tick over is just rude and disgusting by Sony here.

They know they want to put some at the end of the month and annoy customers that way when renewing or wanting to play something/add to library even. The least time for those then the ones earlier in the month (depends on the person/games but each deal of dates for sure could annoy someone).

Might as well just have everyone focus on the eshop discounts instead of the Extra tier's games each month and waiting for them through the week and during times people have other things going on in their lives or other games they'd rather play, purchase during the month or other factors instead Sony. XD Why would they care to put up with this or these games in that delivery method? XD

Dragging them out like this doesn't help people just confuse or annoy and not make people want to subscribe more. XD

I mean I don't even care about PS+ or the games offered. Most games I care about aren't PS+ worthy anyway, so they'd only be relevant with the eshop or physical and even then most I play is retro games on old consoles, or Indies I can tolerate on modern consoles. None of which get into PS+ extra ever.

So padding out the month to annoy players is just silly and ridiculous.

If I was the target audience or the audience Sony wants to join PS+ they didn't make it anymore interesting at all, just more hilarious.

Sony hasn't really given me a reason to care about PS5 for a purchase of the console let alone the most boring lineup of games I've seen, some ok peripherals by the engineers but hit and miss use of software, yes even PS4 I didn't like 8th gen either and yet I'm still on it.

Or playing older games on 7th gen and older as well (not just the price increases, those actually don't bother me, it's annoying, but I still don't care. I skipped 3 discounts, I didn't care. I have 3 PS5s around me I don't even use yet family do. I couldn't care less to play them. I could pay to maintain them/play them after PS6 happens but I still find 9th gen boring.

8th gen I didn't like but had enough to justify, 9th gen I have none and I'd only buy them to maintain not actively care to use them. I'd play about as much as a failed console library of few titles to care about on a popular modern console or less of games of 'interest' or not care at all and be no different of 'impressed' just tolerating or being disappointed in what I tried blindly (my decision I don't want gameplay/story spoilers)

I can pay $15 digitally for the Premium/Deluxe tier games, no streaming on Deluxe and Game Trial are more pathetic excuses for demos on a high end tier of a subscription. XD

At least essential cloud (sure it's Sony so they have to in this case compared to a Microsoft or Google type scale of free to next tier storage outside of gaming use of it), the multiplayer and the few games are fair each month.

Padding out Extra's games through the month is just annoying, stupid and hilarious.
