Re: Crash Bandicoot Set to Spin into New Netflix Animated Adaptation

Thelegend159

god the lack of synchronisation between IP owners and their media arms is appalling. For instance Sony own Twisted Metal, releases a TV show, cancels the live service game. Crash Bandicoot the TV series but no crash game to sync it with. Activision now want to do a Call of Duty game 10 years after the IP has peaked. Just a severe lack of joined up thinking.

Re: Xbox Boss Believes Sony's Strategy of Console Exclusives Is 'Antiquated'

Thelegend159

hmmm odd, as xbox in the last few years spent billions to acquire several iconic gaming studios, took their IP's and where they could turned them into exclusives solely for Xbox.

Only when they spent 70 billion on purchasing activision (for COD) and forced to ensure multi-platform have Xbox buckled and done an about face to become a publisher and this is due to financial pressure from Microsoft to recoup their losses.

Not because they believe exclusives belong on every platform

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on 007 First Light?

Thelegend159

I'll definitely be picking this up due to being a Bond fan, i love the Hitman games and this is released just after my Birthday.

The driving sections didn't look great was my main gripe and the Aston Martin didn't sound like a car, let alone an Aston being revved to high heaven. However we only saw snippets so hopefully in the actual game that section is more 'wow'.

Re: Could You Be Persuaded to Watch a Call of Duty Movie?

Thelegend159

If it was MW2019 and rated 18 with a great director then I’d be all in. However, I suspect that won’t happen at all.
Seems like Hollywood are a bit late to the party as surely COD peaked over a decade ago and audiences might of been more receptive to a gun ho pro American film.

Re: Hands On: Chronological Mode Is a Fascinating Way to Play The Last of Us 2 Again

Thelegend159

Just playing through the chronological storyline alongside the ps5 upgrade. Last time I played the game was on release over 5 years ago! Quite liked it and a strong defender of the game / plot during the internet flame wars.

However playing this chronologically the first 2 hours+ are literally a walking simulator and very tedious if it wasn’t for Naughty Dogs writing. The game mechanics as mentioned in the article are out of sync e.g. not being told how to use the flashlight.

Re: Hellblade 2 Announced for PS5, Out This Summer

Thelegend159

Odd one, i was looking forward to this game after playing the first one (during a sale) resulting in a game which i thought was quite unique and interesting in its own way.
I was quite miffed when the studio was bought by XBOX and became an exclusive and therefore i would be unable to play it. However, having read the comments here and on previous articles regarding the game it appears that i haven't and won't be missing much if i skip this, shame as i mentioned in my opening sentence this game was quite interesting, shame that doesn't seem to have been expanded upon by the developers, in fact the reverse seems to have occurred.

Re: Analytics Firm Predicts Paltry Full-Price Sales for DOOM: The Dark Ages on PS5

Thelegend159

Well i'm loving the game, price didnt bother me as i went all in on the Collectors Edition and thought it was pretty good value for the price. I can see Gamepass might have cannabilised the sales but thats on XBOX / MS and their subscription strategy and whether long term that strategy remains cost effective. I think id Software got the balance right a bit of 2016 and a bit of Eternal.

Long term i suspect MS will remove themselves from the console market and solely rely on becoming a publisher and subscription company, mainly due to their massive expenditure in buying Bethesda and Activitision and over reaching themselves financially, hence why XBOX eclusives are now on the PS5 to offset that potential loss. Gamepass will be on the PS5 at some point, mark my words.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing DOOM: The Dark Ages?

Thelegend159

Bought the Collectors edition - which got held up in customs alongside a £71 non disclosed import tax, which was duly refunded resulting in the package arriving a day later than promised so no early access for me!

On level 5, so far so good i'm enjoying it, you can alter the various settings so you can get a mix of Doom 2016 and Eternal style game play. Enemies can be cranked up to be more aggressive or not and i'm loving the story so far. Graphic wise i think it looks amazing.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (PS5) - Globe-Trotting Adventure Just Got Even Better on PS5

Thelegend159

Just completed the game as of last night. Overall a pretty good game. Visually it is stunning and the nostalgia hits you right in the feels. The plot is pretty good to be honest and certainly feels good enough to act as a Indiana Jones film, certainly better than the 4th and 5th films.

However, the gameplay is a tad basic and is very much a stealth game, due to indiana facing more than 2 people hes dead.

Some of the design choices of the levels are poor i.e. finding the underwater entrance guarded by the snake, escaping the chamber that fills with sand. The camera unlocks hints to puzzles but puts the answer in the journal without informing you. I often found myself selecting the camera when i wanted the first aid kit and vise versa. Not sure why indiana has a satchel as i put very few things in it. All needed a bit of tweaking to make the gameplay better.

The combat, as mentioned, is basic and is effectively a boxing simulator and i was tiring of the repetition just before the game ended. I get that Indiana jones isnt Rambo but the game had several weapons and they were more useful as baseball bats! Yes there are manuals to improve Indiana but he doesn't really learn any new skills (see far cry as a better example). The guns cant be carried permanently and if Indiana moves up or down stairs or across an area the game makes Indiana drop the shotgun / rifle so its left behind and your back to using your revolver or fists.

The final fight was a bit lacklustre especially when we consider the campaign has been building up to this moment it ends in a boxing match, followed by a one armed boxing match.

However, it is still a game i'd strongly recommend purchasing or playing. If there is a sequel i hope the developers (Machine games) build on what is effectively a very strong foundation.

Re: LittleBigPlanet Erasure Continues as Sackboy Removed from PlayStation Productions Logo

Thelegend159

As a 40 year old gamer Sackboy’s PS4 / PS5 platformer is up there as one of the best released. due to reading pushsquare article regarding the serves switching off for his PS3 little big planet I bought and played solely for the amazing campaign, this still holds exceptionally well today against any competitors.

Sony dropped the ball to turn him into a mascot, similar as Crash Bandicoot could have been for the various generations of playstation. Guess Astrobot is expected to fulfil this role going forward.

Re: Lists of Sony’s Cancelled Live Service PS5 Games Paint a Worrying Picture

Thelegend159

Just looks like some Sony execs looked at GaaS games such as fortnite, then looked at their successful IPs and decided to smush the two concepts together. Then selected random studios, with no experience of GaaS to develop them!

Sony must have wasted a fortune, there’s what 12 projects cancelled, let’s say average development of 100 million, so the better part of a billion wasted.

If they’ve got any sense they’ll try and salvage the assets, surely twisted metal can be repurposed into a single player game?
