Sony appears to have cut Sackboy from its PlayStation Productions logo screen that plays before its movies.
The animation features multiple characters from across numerous first-party franchises, such as Horizon, God of War, Astro Bot, and so on. Sackboy has been a part of the gang up to now, but the latest PS Productions flick has removed him from the logo.
As spotted by @realradec on X, the Until Dawn movie does not feature Sackboy where he usually appears:
This follows the delisting (and online shutdown) of LittleBigPlanet 3, which was previously the only way to play the community's millions of levels.
Aside from some free, standalone Sackboy costumes which are still inexplicably available on PS Store, the LBP series is largely consigned to history, and the character's absence from the PS Productions logo is another nail in the coffin.
While it's a spin-off of sorts, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the latest title starring the crafty character, and it's a charming 3D platformer you should check out if you haven't already.
Are you disappointed to see Sackboy excluded from PlayStation Productions' logo screen? Tell us in the comments section below.

Not that surprising, they haven't touched that IP in years, even though an animated Sackboy series that lasts for about 3 minutes an episode would probably be a nice way to get kids interested in the franchise. Hope they return to it one day, but there are other games I want to see revived more.
It's sad don't get me wrong, but let's be honest I think Astro boy is going to be Sony's mascot from here on out.
I got an invitation to a survey from PlayStation like one or two years ago, which was specifically about Sackboy and the respective games, which I found super weird. Also some very specific questions about the character as a mascot and how it represents the brand. Guess we're seeing the results from that now, lol. Which is both great and sad news. LBP is legendary and Sackboy: A Big Adventure is extremely underrated imo. However, Astro Bot has taken over.
Glad to see sackboy get tossed in the trash.
I have trophy hunter friends whose trophy lists are permanently screwed because of how Sony and MediaMolecule handled the LBP2 hack situation. Instead of fixing it, they simply shut the online servers down along with the possibility of anyone still needing the platinum to be able to obtain it. No patch, no Auto Unlock, nothing.
And that’s not to mention MM’s anti consumer decision to force players into buying expensive peripherals like a Vita and the PS Move in order to be able to obtain trophies for the lacklustre DLC’s.
No, I can’t say I’m sad to see Sackboy go. In fact, point me in the direction of his tombstone so I can kick it over.
Sackboy ABA remains a great and underrated platformer. Love the old Little Big Planet games too and would happily play more. There is room for both him and Astro, could even be collaboration potential but alas it seems this is the end for our dear stitched friend
It does seem like Astro Bot is the new PlayStation mascot and it's unfortunate that Sackboy has been 'sacked.' (pun intended 😉)
Well that's like seeing a part of your childhood thrown in the garbage. I made most of my earliest friends through that series of games and by the time LBP3 launched most of them had either moved onto other games or life got in the way. It makes sense why Sony are moving away from the imagery/mascot.
There aren't enough creative games on the market, LBP was so good at what it did that it resulted in a friend (level designer) getting a job with the company. Surely Sony made a boatload off of it too, it felt like every week I was buying a new pack that featured characters/items from other Sony games/movies and so on. It never felt like a rip-off either, they were always reasonably priced.
Dreams was very good but never felt like it had the same kind of appeal, and I think the learning curve kept most people away from even trying. MM made some really bad choices at the end. It felt like there was a lot more they could have done to fix technical problems and serious bugs, instead they started quietly shutting servers down.
Edit: I told him the news and he doesn't look happy about it.
Its a shame they have got rid of him as the games were brilliant. Its just a bit awkward that Astrobot is very much a futuristic version of Sackboy, so its looks like he was cut to make room for the newer version, when both have their place imo.
Shame, cute lil’ fella.
@Balaam_ sounds like your friend has an unhealthy trophy addiction and needs to get help 😉
Trophies should be the icing on top of an already delicious cake. Not the reason to eat the cake.
SackBoy > Asto Bot
Good night sweet prince, you will be missed.
@Neither_scene exactly. Play the game, not the spreadsheet.
How sad
Big Adventure is a great game and it's a shame it looks like it won't be followed up at this point
Plot Twist - Astro Bot is Sack Boy in a robot costume.
Utterly disappointing. Sackboy’s game was a solid launch title for PS5. Just because Astro Bot was better doesn’t mean we should chuck Sackboy. Jeez, I hope Ratchet and Clank aren’t next…
I think Sackboy’s latest game would currently be in the top 5 best Sony published games this generation, right behind Astro Bot, Ratchet and Clank, and maybe Returnal and Gran Turismo. Or at least it’ll be in the top 5 til Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei inevitably become the two best games Sony released this generation.
I loved lbp 1+2 back in the day it would be amazing to see if mm brings him back!
Loved him, but isnt Astrobot the Buzz to Sackboy’s Woody and essentially just Sackboy in a white shell….
I don't see GT driver in the new logo either. So is that mean Sony doesn't care about the IP???
LittleBigPlanet was the game that made me beg my parents to get a PS3 all those years ago and the game that convinced them because they appreciated how it stimulated creativity and problem solving. Sad times indeed.
i think my biggest problem with this is that, besides aba, lbp plays nothing like astrobot,
Man, the disrespect -_-
shame. never played LBP as was Nintendo and xbox until recently. But currently playing Sickbay ABA and it's so much fun.
I thought Sackboy: A Big Adventure was actually a really cute, fun game. That said, Sackboy was always a terrible mascot for the PS brand. The name and imagery are just not marketable. Astro Bot is a better mascot in just about every way imaginable.
As a 40 year old gamer Sackboy’s PS4 / PS5 platformer is up there as one of the best released. due to reading pushsquare article regarding the serves switching off for his PS3 little big planet I bought and played solely for the amazing campaign, this still holds exceptionally well today against any competitors.
Sony dropped the ball to turn him into a mascot, similar as Crash Bandicoot could have been for the various generations of playstation. Guess Astrobot is expected to fulfil this role going forward.
Astro Bot pulled some Machavellian power moves on old Sack Boy, he took his position no doubt, now he's getting him erased.
I bought my PS3 with LBP pack-in and I think the "place a sticker" trophy was the first trophy/achievement I ever got in any game.
Had some good times with those games but I think the floaty controls was what ultimately lead to them not gaining the popularity they could have.
"Little Big Planet erasure continues"
Cmon Sony give a little respect 😉
@Neither_scene I 2nd this 😅
Fond memories of LBP1. And such an innovative title
#JusticeForSack!!
Gonna miss the lil fella 😢
Too bad. I have never been exactly fond of the character himself but "A Big Adventure" is one of the best 3D platformers I played in this current generation and I always hoped for a follow-up. Guess thats out of the question now…
After seeing this, all I care about is seeing Astrobot brawl Agent Clank. If Sony made it a PPV event, Floyd Mayweather Jr. may come out of retirement to fight the victor
While I appreciate what Little Big Planet was, it's one of those crafting games that just felt that way too daunting to create something of actual semi-decent quality — and I feel that Sackboy himself got retroactively done dirty by his design looking a little too much like Funko Pops
Come on Sony, we're not asking for new games and remakes. Just keep the little guy in the picture at least.
@Jrs1 Well played
Sony never really embraced Sackboy as much as I think they could have and should have. I understand the issues they had with hacking the servers led to the demise of the LBP games, and they had similar issues to what the PS Store sees now (thumbnails and descriptions that don't match the content) but without the costs associated with it.
The single player content in LBP was enough to make it more engaging than a lot of the content out there. The idea that you COULD make your own games even if you didn't do much was still powerful. And I think the gaming universe is worse off for losing LBP as an influence.
All that said...with Sony not using him, it was time for Sackboy to retire. Despite the Big Adventure game being the second-best demo for the DualSense for years, Sony has clearly abandoned the game and the character.
Would love a remaster of lbp1 and 2, those were great games. On the other hand, I can emulate so not all is lost except the online element
That's such a Sony thing to do, realising they haven't made a LBP/Sackboy game in a while, so remove Sackboy from the opening instead of giving us new content.
Never loved nor hated Little Big Planet. I played them and just thought ok they are good games. Not great, not Mario but fun enough. However Astro Bot was some of the most fun i had this generation so far. I beat it twice. Do speed runs and think it is a near 10 out of 10. Hope to see more Astro bot in the future. Can’t imagine how good they could make it on PS6 with a lot of ray tracing worlds.
I worked my way through Little Big Planet 1, 2, 3, the Vita’s Little Big Planet, Sackboy’s Big Adventure, and Little Big Planet Karting. I kicked @$$ with the sacky fella in PlayStation All Stars on both PS3 and Vita. And, I made that lil guy run like the wind and jump like PS+ subscription prices in Run Sackboy!
Poor lil fella. If only Sony had made the game that truly would’ve kicked the crap out of the competition: Hacky Sackboy: Kick It!
Sackboy x Astro Bot is the crossover we need.
I've got a soft spot for the first 2 LBP games, but it's not like Sony is doing a lot with the property these days.
The PS3 wasn't my favorite console, but it's got quite a few classics locked to its inimitable architecture at this point. Hopefully Sony will offer up a few remasters/remakes in the next few years - and if LBP gets that treatment, I'll be all over it.
I have hundreds of hours of fond memories of playing the LBPs and their user generated content with my then young daughters (who also played it a lot with their friends) but I’m okay with this. It’s just a logo.
Shame. I really enjoyed Sackboys latest adventure and it offered couch coop too so me and my non gaming wife could play together.
The first two games were fantastic, loved them. Will always have fond memories of those games and the community that existed for it. Was great being a part of it.
Sony had no respect thats fore sure.
This is way too picky and dramatic. Besides the fact that this gen started with a Sackboy game and people know or SHOULD know WHY LBP3 had to end... It's for a freakin' horror movie lol
Don't get me wrong... they could absolutely use Astrobot and Sackboy to come up with some super creative intros tailored around every first party game or movie experience out there. They already emote and wear costumes and it would be cute. But we don't have that for either right now. Just a production logo that already changes all the time. Maybe one day.
Seems pretty obvious how Sony has shifted over to Astrobot for their mascot this gen. Sackboy harks back to the PS3 gen, that's when they tried to establish him as a mascot originally. They had that Sackboy game this gen but I don't think it was that popular, I played it briefly and didn't think much of it. Little Big Planet always felt kinda overrated IMO, I can understand why it really fell off. Astrobot hit much harder.
There's a lot they could do with it. Especially with a mascot platforms taking of my like it did with Astrobot. I liked Sackboy Big Adventure and played it with my wife. If they game it the care they could have, they can make something special. They released awesome dlc costumes for SBA too. If they add some of that into a story, they could bring the nostalgia with an actual older character.
@wildcat_kickz I'm not so sure about that, I've seen sack boy merchandise, toys etc pop up in people's houses a lot over the years, I think he had a bigger mainstream impact than he's getting credit for.
I never really got into LBP that much, Sackboy is alright (and he's definitely cute) but since I was a Teen during the time of the PS3 I REALLY didn't care about him or the LBP games all that much... Also I SWEAR I remember Nathan Drake being pushed really hard as the PS3 "Mascot", at some point at least 🤷♂️
Anyway, the true Mascot of PS will always be Crash/Spyro, although since they never owned them officially (and are now owned by Xbox 😒) I'll go with Jak & Daxter/Ratchet & Clank (could also throw Sly and the gang in with them, but I don't know ANYONE who played the Sly games back on the PS2? We all played the ever living crap out of Jak/Ratchet though... Plus that keeps the Mascots as being Naughty Dog/Insomniac Games reps too which are easily PlayStations biggest Studios and are, or were at least, the heart and soul of the brand)
Crash bandicoot is still the best mascot sony ever had. Astrobot & sackboy are both mid creations imo, but sackboy is a bit more unique despite having less appealing games
@MrRhysReviews facts
I actually played Sly cooper though , one of my fav sony franchises
@Oram77 and Mario is THE Nintendo mascot, so everything Kirby must go. Seriously, what's the point of spending several decades in a creative industry if you feel pressed to filter the flaunting of your achievements? PlayStation just celebrated its 30th anniversary, and the journey to that milestone was so much more eventful than the company seems to bother showcasing these days.
@Oram77 plus after Littlebigplanet 3 sony should have just shut media molecule down.
They don't release games and when they do it it takes them 10 years to finish.
I also see sony just giving the i.p. to m.m. and see if they can get some games running on steam.
@nomither6 that means nothing though astrobot sold more games then the last halo on steam and xbox.
@The_ghostmen I didn’t expect for MY OPINION to mean anything to someone else , your reply means nothing. I already hinted that astrobot is more successful
Media Molecule's LBP1 & 2 (still stuck on the PS3) are a class above the rather dull A Big Adventure. Shutting down the LBP servers was just a move too far in my opinion. How much does it cost to host all that user created content online?
@The_ghostmen MM didn't do the lacklustre LBP3 - that was Sumo wasn't it?
