Yep. Depending on the reviews might be a day 1 purchase for me. Loved the crash bandicoot trilogy and crash bandicoot 4 (except the final level, which I never finished!). Consoles need more platformers, shame they’re relying on old franchises and nothing new or revolutionary is available.
@GreatAuk I thought the same but for different reasons. I love the new gritty Lara and the uncharted play style. However, shadow had these jungle settings and all the skills you could unlock to fight in the jungle but the Jungle levels were quite short. So you never got apply all the skills you unlocked and certainly not indepth.
The storyline looked as though it was going to investigate an interesting angle i.e. questioning Lara's actions and how she's responsible for triggering the apocalypse and has murdered upteen goons but it never followed up on the questions it posed.
@Uncharted2007 I was thinking the same. A controller wouldnt feel the same as a lightgun. Unless they put effort into the motion control aspect of aiming.
For an iconic franchise with an ace modern reboot they haven’t capitalised on Lara like they could have. I mean how did they celebrate a gaming and female icon on her 25th anniversary? With a cook book! Not a new game, or film a cookbook!
Also they need to ‘god of war’ her next game. Give her a child and an epic modern journey through a forgotten religion.
Played most of the games on this list. My suggestion:
Doom eternal - hands down. Great design built with love and along with DOOM reinvigorated a nearly dead franchise. The soundtrack is superb it’s designed to be played at lighting speed. Can be picked up pretty cheap along with an ace season pass.
Though as others have mentioned shouldn’t Resident Evil 7 and 8 be on the list?
Hhhmmm not sure if it’s me having these problems but I own and completed the base game. it was installed on my PS5. However, the DLC, specifically the season pass content isn’t showing as free at all.
I deleted this version and downloaded the free trial version from the PS store and the DLC / add ons are blanked off and can’t be accessed.
If this was released as a standalone game it would have been a day 1 purchase for me. But i'd need to own Valhalla (£25) then purchase this DLC (£33).
Value for money this is a pretty well priced DLC and is pretty much a full game.
I will get round to this but i found with Assassin Creed Origins, after completing the base campaign i had no desire to complete the DLC i had purchased, as i had grown tired of the game mechanics.
Origins was a 40 hour campaign, Valhalla is a 100 hours before you add in this 33 hour DLC!
Only took them 14 months! granted the apocalypse occurred. So a bit of leeway is fair.
Shame they didn’t delay the game and release it in what now appears to be a playable state. The would have avoided a lot and I mean a lot of valid criticism.
This game has been on my radar since its announcement. The first trailer for the game looked ok, this trailer makes the game look amazing. However, Cyberpunk 2077 looked amazing in the trailers, so i'm cautiously optimistic.
The season pass / DLC looks to be better than the base game. Blood Dragon alongside playing as the villains should be about 10 hours playtime. Soon as there’s a sale on the season pass I’m in.
I just play the Single Player campaign and given their 5 hours long i wait until the game is on sale for £25 or less. The 2019 campaign was great but like all the COD campaigns its a one and done for me. No replay-ability.
Vanguard must have been bad as its dropped in price to my budget already!
Wait, what... no guns! Didnt the first one have guns? Seriously i need guns in my zombie game!!!
Watched the trailers recently released on youtube promoting the story-lines, available decisions and the impact of your choices. Surprised they're not actually in the game!
@Hurblyburbly Damn right. I bought this game as a nice little platformer to break up my FPS habit. The basic platforming and exploring are simple and straightforward.
However, the bosses are ridiculous! And have some questionable mechanics:
-Health bars that fill the screen -exceptionally fast movement -1 kill combos that are unavoidable once started -some of the high powered skills / abilities you unlock are made redundant with the bosses!
The bosses became quite rage inducing and for two of the bosses (woodsman and hunter) i dropped the gameplay down to easy which i was disappointed in myself with.
God damn! Is all I can say. Not even a big fan of call of duty (I just play the campaign when it’s a tenner) but that’s a serious amount of cash and locks an iconic FPS behind Xbox!
FYI the entire NHS costs £56billion. So MS just spent the NHS budget on a games developer!
I'm tempted to buy the season pass as i hope its 'different' enough from the base to be enjoyable.
I found the base game rather 'meh' and some of the gameplay and storyline decisions left a lot to be desired. It literally came across as Ubisoft combining every gameplay trope from all their franchises into 1 game.
Blooddragon has supposedly had little to no additional work done to it to port it to modern systems. Which seems lazy. But i never played it the 1st time round so again, im looking forward to it.
There’s a couple in the sale that are on my wish list that i will purchase but as mentioned by others, physical copies can be found far cheaper elsewhere.
Deathloop, deliver us the moon, sonic colours, nier v1.1 and Kena’s bridge of spirits are the stand outs.
@BoldAndBrash erm that’s pretty much how I re -acted. I thought it was a funny idea in a tongue in cheek kind of way. The Rambo one looks like they couldn’t afford the rights to Sly so found a suitable work around.
The season pass for 6 is shaping up to be pretty good on par with the Far cry 5 DLC. Though I’ll be waiting until March, when it’s complete and on sale.
If it’s a 40 hr extension for £30 odd quid I’m in, as that definitely meets my price criteria for games vs length.
I am yet to buy Valhalla (I played origins and by the end I was bored of the repetition) but it’s been on sale for £20 recently, so it’s peaking my interest.
I’m just surprised they didn’t slap an intro and tutorial onto it and sell it as a full game? Maybe they know it’s not up to that standard and so have gone down the DLC route.
I’ve recently started playing the Assassins Creed games / franchise. I started with Origins and have worked backwards to Black Flag.
Origins was a huge sprawling map! And required you to do side quests to level up and complete the main quest / storyline. I was bored by the end of the game and had forgotten the characters, their motivations and their reasons. Oh and pushed micro transactions.
Contrast that with Black Flag which was short, sweet, fun and enjoyable, even though it was the older game.
I’m interested in vikings but not a 100 hour campaign!
However, for a tenner I’m awfully tempted and that’s part of the problem. Sony know that it’s a relatively small price so a lot of people will part with the cash. Easy money for some for 60 FPS and haptic feedback.
Wow 5 years late to the party! Xbox game pass launched in 2017 didn’t it?
Sony should have done this years ago, where’s the innovation?Sony should have been the ones to invent this, not copy it.
The tier system, sure sounds wonderful to Sony’s marketing department but why not throw in the whole lot for one set price, rather than introducing tiers?
No doubt it will be great value to those new to the Sony console and have access to the 27 + years back catalogue.
I for one would love to go for a trip down memory lane and visit nostalgia avenue, particularly the MGS series.
@CutchuSlow I assume tax. Tax in the uk is 20% whereas (I think) in the USA each state has its own purchase / sales tax rate, that seem to sit around 6%.
@theheadofabroom Holy poop. It’s like meeting my twin! My buying habits / rules are the same as yours.
I’m not dropping 70 quid, unless it’s for Ragnarok.
For the last 12 months I’ve been buying the PS4 versions and then using the PS5 free upgrade.
I very, very rarely buy day one. The only time in the last year or so I’ve done it is for RE8 and Guardians of the Galaxy and thankfully those games were ace and easily 8/10’s.
Sony sold 110 million PS4’s and takes a 30% cut of everything sold on the console. They ain’t poor.
An amazing game. I strongly recommend buying it. I completed it last week prior to this update. Shame as the graphics are stunning before the update so all these extra refinements would have made the game even better.
Music and gameplay are spot on. Though the gameplay got a tad repetitive towards the end and the bosses were a tad simple and bullet sponges.
I enjoyed the trailer (seems I was the only one). It’s been in production for what, four years. The last 2 of those nothing much would have happened. So I guess it’s ripe to be canned. Shame as the trailer made it look fun and quite out there compared to most things on the market.
@Bolt_Strike Maybe DC / WB games need to pull their finger out and start releasing some games. Marvel’s filled a void. And bar the avengers what they’ve produced has been pretty good. I’d recommend Guardians of the Galaxy to anyone.
Granted next year DC will have two big heavy hitters with Gotham Knights and the Suicide Squad.
Bought one during lockdown, complete fluke that it was in stock on the website at the time.
I’ve mostly played and bought PS4 games because they’re cheaper and you get free PS5 upgrades. I’m not paying £70.
I’ll give Sony some slack as covid has not only impacted them but also the studios and developers. So there’s a reason why there’s no iconic games. Though Sony must have known that a few wouldn’t be ready for 2021 but advertised them anyway.
However, Xbox and game pass have made huge strides. The Xbox is more powerful, they have game pass, oh and they bought Bethesda. Thus losing Doom, wolfenstein etc
Played and completed borderlands 1 and 3, but only the one play-through. Never thought they were great / epic games. As a FPS I never felt as though the shooting was that great.
Tried the prequel and didn’t gel with it. However, when I saw the trailer for wonderlands I was sold. I don’t like dungeons and dragons but add in machine guns and the randomness of Tina Tiny and i’m In!
Bought this glorified ‘demo’ on release date I’m enjoying it so far. I just find two things odd;
Firstly, the games not out till March, so why release this 4 months before? Surely it would make sense to release it in January or February.
Secondly, what took them so long to realise that the DLC was good enough to be a full game. It’s been what, 8 years? Again, shouldn’t they have made this game sooner? when the Borderlands 2 hype was huge?
If this is true then these are a buy on day one at full price! Which is very rare for me but that shows what MGS means to me. Played all the OG saga (survival doesn’t count) 100s of times on PS1, PS2 and PS3.
Hope the remasters are good but the controls probably won’t hold up to today’s standards. If they’re remaking MGS 3 (my favourite) I hope they don’t cut anything.
I have been playing the game continuously since 9am. No complaints so far. It’s a bit of a slow burn but nothing major. Just starting on Chapter 3. It’s not MGS and that’s one of the reasons I didn’t buy it on release day along with it being labelled a ‘walking simulator’ (which is true of the game so far). The bike makes a huge difference to traversal and all the assistance provided by other gamers is quite cool and useful.
Bought the game new on ebay a few months ago, for approx £20. When the directors cut was announced, I held of installing it until the upgrade path became available. Can’t wait until this Friday!
@Tharsman a lot of those examples shouldn’t have had sequels to their sequels. Terminator 3, 4, 5 and 6 were terrible. Predator is a great iconic film that didn’t sequels. Star Wars again didn’t need the prequel or sequel trilogy.
The consumer and the studio are both to blame for the lack creativity but then who can blame them. They’re stuck in a loop.
I’ll wait until March to get this when all the DLC is available and it’s been sufficiently patched. Added bonus the price would have dropped significantly.
@ThroughTheIris56 i’ve Read all your comments through this thread and I’m impressed with your reason, logic, facts and supporting evidence.
I’d love a more realistic FPS shooter that either focuses on unknown ww2 campaigns or the Korean War, Vietnam or gulf war. Won’t happen and we’ll be stuck in a cycle of ww2 shooter and the future.
I chuckled to myself when I saw the trailer for this COD MP and had to giggle that you could customise your guns. Not sure that was an even an option for a soldier in WW2 due to the lack of materials and resources. Fairly surely the Thompson had a choice of different a magazine, a barrel grip and stock.

If this was a standalone game it would be a day 1 purchase for me. Valhalla, is what 60 hours long at least!? Not including the others DLC’s.
I played origins and was bored because of the length. So bit concerned about 100 hrs. Don’t think I’ll have the time to attempt this.

Re: So, Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Probably Never Happening
Bit of a shame, I had this on my list as the trailer was hilarious and unique. Not the umpteenth sequel to a franchise.
However, this isn’t the only Ubisoft game stuck in development hell. There’s also the Assassin Creed Black flag spin off that’s missing in action.
