Re: Yodel Trends on Twitter As GAME Warns UK PS5 Pre-Orders May Not Arrive on Time

TheIdleCritic

@God_of_Nowt The only reason I can think of why Game chose Yodel (as well as their usual DPD, Royal Mail partners) is that they were the cheapest. Probably were promised reliable delivery on the 19th and thought, fine, that's one less thing to worry about now. Maybe communication wasn't the best on Game's part after the fact and Yodel became a little overwhelmed with the numbers. Having said that, one extra day to wait isn't bad at all. It wasn't Yodel but Game, after all, who charged delivery and changed in on people's orders (I chose free delivery lol so I'm fine).

I used to work for Game, close to two decades ago when I needed a job while at college/uni. Back when they sold games, not phones, tablets and whatever else. Before they were part of SD, and games were sold and traded in at a reasonable price. Nice close knit team. How they have fallen.

Re: PS5 Sold Out in Japan, But Launch Numbers Are Dire

TheIdleCritic

@Lobbo95 The wonderful world of the internet. Gotta love it.

@God_of_Nowt Exactly that. From next year I'll probably buy a few titles, starting with Hitman 3 in January.

But for now the latest Playstation console, a backlog of games, and the PS+ Collection is enough.

Re: PS5 Sold Out in Japan, But Launch Numbers Are Dire

TheIdleCritic

@Menchi I understand. If that's all you're seeing then there has to be a semblance of truth.
I just can't accept any consensus on the internet to not be skewered in some way (except the Sonic movie design!).
I'm not defending the game, I'm indifferent. Never played a Souls game. Not a fan.

TheIdleCritic

Goodness me. Laughing/shaking my head at this comments section. Does anyone even like this website?

Gamesradar+'s take on the same article has the title: "PS5 sales in Japan were more than four times higher than Xbox Series X". The contents has a much more neutral tone too; "off to a strong start" etc.

Re: Devastating Capcom Ransomware Attack Exposes Game Details, Employee Data

TheIdleCritic

This has gotten way off topic lol but...

@torne You live and you learn haha. I watched an interview once with a controversial figure, but I completely agreed with his take on the internet - the people we interact with online are all strangers, yet we don't respond like they are. Thus we get offended and are too open and engage in conversations that leave us in a terrible state of mind. I use the internet just for work, news on topics I'm interested in, and to watch videos of animals being cute. Even if you're not part of a discussion and you just see someone being objectionable it can ruin your mood, so I just avoid it entirely.

It's an ambiguous term. I'm a gamer in the sense that it's my favourite past time, but I'm not a gamer because I'm not part of any communities, play multiplayer games, go to any gaming themed events, or engage in discourse - apart from here, and like you, that's sparingly.

I suppose I'm lucky that I do have a wife and someone to distract me (even when I don't want to be distracted!). Might have been harder if the internet is where I needed to go for discussions and banter etc, so I appreciate what I have.

Re: Devastating Capcom Ransomware Attack Exposes Game Details, Employee Data

TheIdleCritic

@torne As horrible as the sentiment is, I agree. You'll never meet anyone more cynical than me.

I normally can't stand humans haha. I've found an extremely small group of people that are exempt from the cesspool; my wife, one or two friends etc. I haven't been surprised once during this crisis, my intolerance has only increased. Being a gamer too has deepened that - the amount of vitriol coming out of "gamers" on a daily basis is terrifying. Pushsquare is literally the only website I've signed up to. I can't be bothered with other gaming sites. Even here you get idiots from time to time, but the regulars seem suspiciously chill compared to the rest of the internet lol...

Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PS4) - A Downright Crazy But Captivating Take on a Beloved Franchise

TheIdleCritic

@ShogunRok in terms of fights and difficulty: does this differ from the previous games? I never found Yakuza that hard when it came to combat. Even in tough battles you can cheese it by running around and dodging, and taking pot shots to whittle down health. The hardest battle for me was actually one in Judge Eyes.
I suppose you can't do this anymore considering the turn based RPG element. If you're weak will you just die?

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Delay Is Due to Current-Gen Consoles After All

TheIdleCritic

@oldschool1987 I don't think they've made PS5/XBSX discs, just PS4/Xbox One X discs with free next gen upgrade (correct me if I'm wrong). I know you can just download it, but a lot of people still buy physical, so I suppose CDPR want everyone who buys it at launch to start experiencing/playing the game they want to ship it at the same time? Maybe.

Re: Mark Wahlberg Gives Us Our First Glimpse of Sully in the Uncharted Movie

TheIdleCritic

Everyone here has to remember that this is a film. Not being interested because it's a younger Drake, or that the characters don't look spot on is fine for this very particular audience. However being a film, this will reach a much wider one. There will be people who haven't heard of the game, or have never played it, or aren't attached to the characters, and will go and watch it simply because it looks like a movie they might like.
I understand historically video game adaptations have been abysmal, but I don't understand this instant dismissal by some. I think Holland looks fine, and we've yet to see any footage. I'll reserve judgement until we do, like I do with any film.

Re: The New PS Store for Web, Mobile Is a Dramatic Downgrade

TheIdleCritic

@BlaizeV I don't understand your reasoning. The web store redesign is bad, but not everyone uses the web store. I agree it's quite terrible but I've always accessed it via the console. It's not going to lose Sony any sales of the PS5.
Besides, the design of a webpage is never final. The best Sony can do is quickly address the issues and fix them.
But either way, I'm not sure how this translates to Microsoft "winning" next time?

Re: The New PS Store for Web, Mobile Is a Dramatic Downgrade

TheIdleCritic

I really hope there's just major bugs at the moment (the lack of titles and prices on pages etc) and this is not the final product. Maybe they were too hasty on the launch. Let's hope.

Sony have been doing well so far, seemingly ignoring the discourse and going at their own pace, and still coming out on top with what they show, in my opinion. Don't mess it up now!

Re: PS5 Consoles Are with Media and Influencers Right Now

TheIdleCritic

@Arnna I feel like there's a degree of jealousy whenever people dump on influencers. One must remember that's a wide ranging term. There's influencers for everything and they're all different. This is just my personal opinion but; technically, people like MKBHD and Dave Lee are "influencers" but I'd much rather they be called "tech youtubers" or something similar. They're not biased, they have stated they don't like to accept sponsorships, rarely do adverts, and their videos are frequently informative. Channels like that clearly have a knowledge about what they're talking about and all they want to do is educate and inform others. Then there are influencers who know and do ***** all. They have a large following and don't really have to exhibit any real form of talent or knowledge, and just rake in sponsorship and advertising money due to their plentiful fanbase. Anything from dancing (although, there's a Tiktoker called Addison Rae - I've seen videos of her actually dancing, as in genuine classical dance, and she's very talented. Yet most, if not all of her tiktok videos are her doing stupid, rage inducing trend dances because that's what her audience wants. I don't have tiktok, it's not my scene. Plus, whenever I see a dance vid from there my mood drops dramatically), to "gamer youtubers" playing through something with little to no skill. It's impossible to sit through one of their videos due to erratic camera movement and them not being able to read any instructions or notice any pickups.

Am I jealous? Of course. I'd love to be able to do something like that and earn the amount they do. But I don't belittle them at every chance. They do what they do, and more power to them. I just choose not to pay attention or watch any of their content. Doesn't affect me either way. Focus on what can make your life better without the need to bring others down.
