Movember will be “mo” problem for Mark Wahlberg, as he’s ‘tached up to play Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan in the upcoming Uncharted movie. We’ve already seen Tom Holland as Nathan Drake – whose performance has been given the seal of approval by mocap star Nolan North – but this is our first glimpse of the iconic protagonist’s mentor.
Please note there is some cursing in the Instagram video below, so maybe don’t play it out of your speakers while you have family or friends around:
Incredibly, we actually reckon Wahlberg looks the part here, with his thick moustache and slicked-back hair screaming Sully. We’ll still need to see if he can pull off the accent, but this movie – which is being directed by Venom’s Ruben Fleischer – actually seems somewhat promising now it’s in production. It’s tentatively scheduled to release on 16th July, 2021.

Good to see that they include the real protagonist of Uncharted which is Sully's moustache would not be Uncharted without it
@BearsEatBeets
I'm too excited for this movie, gonna be a good franchise if they handle it right.
Bears defeated the non admin comment post character minimum requirement with this one weird tip.
Admins hate him!
Find out how here!
(parodying that old meme ad btw lol)
I seem to be one of the few people who thought Holland looked great as young Drake in the promo photo a few days back, and Wahlberg looks alright here too, but like you said, the accent is the worrying part! I'm getting more confidence about this movie though, which is worrying considering the horrific track record of video game movies!
Okay, that's not too bad 😃
Looks like an 80s porn star.
I love it.
I'm warming to these 2! Now I've seen them in character (kind of). I feel like they'll have a good back and forth just like in the games. I do hope they don't just go for a re telling of the first game as Drake and Sully would be older than Tom and Mark are now!
As long as mark wahlberg doesnt follow his usual tactic of just playing mark wahlberg there may actually be a chance here.
Cant forget mark wahlberg for max payne movie😴. Max payne video games is legendary.the movie thumbs down.word up son
Thank god he actually does have a stache.
We have moustache, people. Is it okay for me to be cautiously optimistic about this one?
Is that a real moustache?...
This film is gonna suck big time.
Marky Mark is a great actor, and can play the Northeastern Yankee to a tee (see The Departed). But his voice is probably an octave too high to nail Sully. Sully sounds "gruff". Wahlberg sounds almost whiny.
I can forgive if he cant nail the accent part. Being a non native English, it is even sometimes to change the pronunciation, let a;ine the accent. Really respect those actors who change their accent in the movies.
Eh, I’ll wait till I see it to judge it. I was the worst offender of hating Heath Leger and Cillian Murphy as Joker and Scarecrow and look how that turned out so... 🤷🏾♂️
I think this movie will be ok.
Thought it was a fake 'stache, it's awful. Like terrible awful.
Hoping once it's viewed in a film w/ movie magic lighting adn not an IG post it looks normal but it's scarey cringy there. Hopefully I'll forget this vid by next July.
Does anyone know what timeframe the movie will be in or not?
Actually looks like a pretty accurate young Sully, still prefer someone other then Tom Holland if there was a choice, just seen enough of him but I don't think he'll be bad
What will we be watching this on when every movie theatre goes under from crushing debt.
Wow he’s sure is a MUCH better fit for playing Sully then Tom is for playing Nathan.
@thejameswhogames Wow that’s generous!
@Subsided Well in the U.K. on streaming services, Cineworld is closing all its cinemas globally including the U.K., I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near a cinema for some time yet! Apple apparently are interested in buying the new James Bind film to screen, and Amazon will be screening that new disaster film Greenland that was meant to be a summer blockbuster but has never made it to the big screens. So expect a film like this and others to be on streaming services, or delayed until 2022.
Must.....not.....get....excited 😆
I hope it turns out good. Can't be any worse than Monster Hunter looks. Can it?
At least they found someone who could look the part, here. Not sold on Holland, especially as he was Spider Man not long ago. Haven't seen Wahlberg in a while.
Pretty sure that's just an older Dirk Diggler.
Wasn't sure when I heard he was going to be him(I like Mark anyway) but he looks like him in that photo But 99% of games to films are rubbish so I am not that excited about this film.
think the cast have nailed it so far
That looks like a fake mustache, and the guys that wrote this also wrote Transformers :The Last Knight, MIB International, and Morbius, so...not holding my breath that this will be worth a damn.
On the flip side, they also wrote the excellent Punisher: War Zone, and one of the many, many, many, many drafts of the first Iron Man, so who knows, it might turn out ok.
I hope they keep the music from the game. Amazing score in the Uncharted games. That is one thing about adaptations that pisses me off. Last Airbender is a perfect example, that movie was destined to suck, but dropping the composer of the animated series was the first clue. Like the new guy they got was going to do better.
@Carl-G They are, but Uncharted and modern games have an advantage, they are grounded in film making way more than something like super mario. Huge parts of Uncharted 2 could just be translated to film and be amazing.
@Coltaine22 Highly unlikely they'll get Greg Edmonson, who did the first three, since he hasn't scored anything since 2013. I could see them getting Henry Jackman, who did Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, since he's still very active.
He's not pulling no barmaid in Lima.
Not a big fan of mark whalberg, but still looking forward to this, hopefully turns out good. It's just the casting that has me worried, but hopefully they prove me wrong and pull it off.
I don't care how anybody looks, that's the easy part. My issues is I couldn't care less because I have 0 interest in a young Nathan. It's like young Indiana Jones, I'm simply not interested in a young version of a known older character.
Very dubious this film will turn out good but you never know, there is always hope. However, although Tom Holland as young Drake I can go with, Walhberg as Sully is a big NO from me. Big NO NO NO just to emphasize.
Everyone here has to remember that this is a film. Not being interested because it's a younger Drake, or that the characters don't look spot on is fine for this very particular audience. However being a film, this will reach a much wider one. There will be people who haven't heard of the game, or have never played it, or aren't attached to the characters, and will go and watch it simply because it looks like a movie they might like.
I understand historically video game adaptations have been abysmal, but I don't understand this instant dismissal by some. I think Holland looks fine, and we've yet to see any footage. I'll reserve judgement until we do, like I do with any film.
