It's no secret that PlayStation VR is the most attainable of the high-end virtual reality headsets, but Sony is lowering the barrier to entry even further. In North America, PSVR is now available for a new RRP of $299.99, down from $399.99. This price pertains to the Doom VFR bundle, which includes the headset, a PlayStation Camera, a demo disc, and a copy of the aforementioned game.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR bundle has also been reduced from $449.99 to $349.99, a pack that includes the system, a PlayStation Camera, two PlayStation Move controllers, a demo disc, and a copy of Bethesda's evergreen RPG.
The price is also being reduced in Europe from tomorrow, where the RRP is similarly decreasing from €399.99 to €299.99. This applies to the PlayStation VR Starter Pack, which includes the system, a PlayStation Camera, and a download code for PlayStation VR Worlds. In the UK, this translates to a new RRP of £259.99 for the same bundle. A similar reduction will be hitting Australia and New Zealand from 2nd April.

It's getting more and more tempting. But still too steep for me.
I just wouldn't use it as much as I'd like to, so can't really justify it.
The Wipeout Omega PSVR update has certainly caught my attention. Thats the sort of thing I dreamt about when playing original Wipeout back in the days of PS1.
@KALofKRYPTON I'm the same. Really enjoyed playing it at a friends house, but can see it being something I rarely use on my own. Needs to be below £200 for me to consider.
Great news. Will bring in more people. Can only be a good thing for VR. Hope Sony continue to push PSVR very happy with the support so far.
Just wish my neck injury would heal up in a hurry so I can play some Invisible Hours i bought in the sales but yet to play, also dying to get back to playing Moss.
@Futureshark I'd love to try it out. I don't for a second think I'd want to try for more than one race really - but it looks amazing.
@Alfieburns it is a great bit of kit, some great games too. Perhaps when the next gen is imminent...
Good move I think - I have been pretty happy with Sony's support. This time last year I started a thread wondering if it was being dropped already, however feels like this couldn't be further from the truth.
better but still WAY out of my price range i'm afraid
Just got a PSVR V2 for £299.00 a few days ago. An extra £40.00 would of been nice, when I was looking for indications of a sale/price drop being near by there was none! lol Oh well guess that's the way it goes.
@zazzy Yeah there is definitely lots of room for improvement.
@zazzy If they're smart, they will continue to support the same headset through to PS5.
Vr is not my thing but I'm glad the price is lowered so more people can try it.
OK now I am super tempted and will probably bite at this even if its just for a few titles.
apart from the odds are it would probably trigger a seizure my biggest problem is the god awfull cable mess of the set up it just reminds me of the 32x mega cd disaster zone. At least it has more games lol.
I have a large backlog as it is for my PS4, Switch and 3DS to think about making it worse with another system. Plus for me there doesn't seem to be that Super Mario 64 title to make me think I'm missing out.
I’d be tempted to give it a shot if there were more games that interested me which are either VR exclusive or have a VR mode.
Now if only Sony actually did this with the PS Vita memory cards.
I'm sure I'd love PSVR but I hardly get a chance to play my PS4/Switch as it is so doubt I'll bite. Yet anyway...
@SoulsBourne128 Hah yeah I was always waiting for that announcement but it never came! Strange that but clearly too late now...
@munkondi Yes it will be unless you happen to get old stock. Check with the store before buying.
@RogerRoger Yeah the full games are coming though. We've had Resi 7, Dirt Rally, Farpoint, Apex Construct, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Skyrim VR, Moss and today's VR update for WipEout omega collection to name a few I can think of. The invisible Hour is supposed to be really good too but not been able to play that as yet. Some good looking full size games due this year too.
But to be honest the shorter games are perfect for VR. Games like Superhot are great for 30min blasts.
.. what's really good about this deal is that now it's just over a year old, a lot of the first wave of games are massively reduced in price... and games like Thumper, RE7, Batman, Dirt Rally, etc. are super-cheap (and are just brilliant) - and of course you've had several freebies courtesy of PS+... no better time to get into it... sure it's pricey, but I'd still buy this again over a Switch... and it'd still work out massively cheaper... (and you can play it without a TV screen, so think of the possibilities there! No more arguing over who watches what!)
Yes, it's an investment... but it's been the biggest leap in gaming I've played in decades.. playing the demo of Star Child last night and Moss - two more absolute WOW moments... it never ceases to amaze just how immersive VR is, even with the current technical limitations... Statik makes you believe you're sat in a lab with this box attached to your hands, and the way you can twist it and look around it and interact with it - it's simply impossible to replicate on a TV... make no mistake, VR is absolutely the future of gaming...
Nice I think it's close to that £200 sweet spot! That's like half a weeks pay I've been using it for VR games and to play epics like witcher 3 and fortnite on its cinema mode. To all those sitting on the fence, imagine switching your TV off, laying down in a comfy position on your sofa and watching YouTube, netflix, game broadcasts and favourite movies in imax mode! Truly epic and immersive. Once we hit 2nd or 3rd gen and I can easily see it replacing my TV for sole use.
@Anguspuss The newer version of PSVR has better cable management.
Had me worried there for a second as I just bought mine a few weeks ago. Even though I got the old model I'm still good as it was $199, $217 w/ tax, for the headset, camera and GT Sport. My kid chipped in $40 b/c he wanted the camera for Playroom, and I traded in GT Sport after messing around with it a bit for $20, making the headset $157 including tax. We already had 2 Move from the PS3 that still worked, I charged and tested them before buying.
And for all the people who said - I want it but I wont' use it enough - yeah that's us. I used it a lot for the first week but have been busy playing real games since then. I do intend to go back and finish Until Dawn Rush of Blood, by far the best game on PSVR for me. I enjoy those haunted house shooting rides in real life and it's perfect for our set-up, me sitting in the middle of the living room on an old metal folding chair w/ my 2 Move. My wife was scared just sitting on the sofa watching on the Tv.
We also have RIGS and Starblood Arena courtesy of PS+. I enjoyed the set-up of RIGS more than the game, still haven't touched Starblood, I'm assuming it will make me very nauseous. Spirderman was probably the most fun, and freaky from my fear of heights, if only it didn't end so abruptly after 3 minutes, it should make a nice 2-3 hour game before tedium set it.
So not a ton of use, but there's enough out there for what my kid and I paid. Hopefully PSVR games keep coming on PS+.
Sackboy approves.

Oh, and the set-up wires are nuts, PS5 better be 1 wire in w/ PSVR 2 like the camera is, but once I got it set up I haven't touched it.

The glowing light on the break-out box seems really unnecessary. That box needs to go away as well on PS5. And if not PS5 needs a lot more USB ports. My PS4 Slim has 2 ports, 1 for the external HDD and 1 for PSVR. I had to plug in an old phone charger to charge the PS4 Dualshocks. And another one for the Move since it's the old port. 2 USB ports is nto enough, we needed to unplug our Lego Dimensions portal. Or maybe it was Disney Infinity or Skylanders, I can't recall we have about 7 portals connected to 3 systems.
But for anyone waiting, I'd say wait. PSVR headset deals will be $199 everywhere this holiday. I do think this newer model will last for the rest of the PS4's life, PS5 will get PSVR 2 w/ better resolution, maybe even at launch if not soon thereafter.
Wow... If the starter pack with camera and a games is £259.99, I really hope the stand alone headset can find its way down to £199.99. As already have a camera, move controllers and thanks to PSPlus and the free wipeout vr patch, a few games to play.
@munkondi You'd have to imagine they'd only be selling the new model from now on
I really wanna try out VR, but this is still out of my price range.
I'll grab it eventually when it's $200 again. I have large enough backlog to hold me off until then.
I was expecting more in terms of the price drop.
It looks like they just locked in the old sale price for bundles.
Presumably the $199 units and the GT bundles are gone now.
I got an 'open box' GT bundle for $179 at Walmart, which is pretty amazing when you consider GT is a $60 game.
Sony needs to work hard to make sure PSVR isn't the next Vita.
Just seen GT-Sport is getting another update including another track more cars and a VR time trial mode. The support for that game since launch has been amazing.
I played through Resident Evil 7 on normal TV, and all I can say is that there is absolutely no way I'll be playing it on VR.
Price looks good, but it would have to include the move controllers and a better game than VR Worlds in the bundle for me to bite. Also don't have a ps pro, and don't really intend to buy one, so that puts me off a little. Will probably wait for PS5 and hope it is all bundled together.
I won't be interested in PSVR until they release a full AAA game that's VR exclusive.
OH, with the price drop and WipEout VR, I am seriously considering VR for the 1st time
