And here we are -- Push Square's final Game of the Year 2017 article. Phew! What better way to round things off than with the results of our community Game of the Year poll, in which we asked you lot to vote for your favourite games of 2017. For what it's worth, we reckon you've got pretty good taste.
We've listed your top ten below, in descending order.
#10: Gravity Rush 2
#9: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
#8: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Triolgy
#7: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
#6: Assassin's Creed Origins
#5: Yakuza 0
Yakuza 0 ended up doing exactly what SEGA wanted it to -- it introduced a whole new audience to the mental adventures of Kazuma Kiryu. We're more than happy to see this one sit near the top of your Game of the Year list.
#4: NieR: Automata
The one big game that went missing when it came to our staff Game of the Year vote, NieR: Automata did much better with you lot, securing a top five finish. Easily one of the biggest surprise hits of 2017.
#3: Persona 5
Our staff Game of the Year didn't quite sweep the community vote, but Persona 5 still managed to place third overall. A great achievement for a title that has almost nothing in common with the industry's usual blockbusters.
#2: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
None of you missed Nathan Drake, it seems. Standing proud in second place on your list as well as ours, Chloe and Nadine’s standalone adventure deserves its place on the podium.
#1: Horizon: Zero Dawn
All-Mother be praised! Horizon Zero Dawn shot an arrow through your collective heart, with excellent combat, an intriguing story, and a badass lead character in Aloy. The game placed highly on our list, too, but it’s clearly made a big impression -- Horizon Zero Dawn is your Game of the Year.
And there you have it -- the top ten games of 2017 as voted for by you, the Push Square community. Are you happy with your list? Celebrate great games in the comments section below.

Well done everyone, I think that's a good list.
That'll do, pig.
Awesome to see the love for GR2, a game I just started playing, and for NieR, a game I ranked as my number 1.
Horizon number one where it deserves to be
Good list. I'd have Persona 5 at #1, and I haven't played Nier sadly, but everything else looks tip top.
Nice to see my top 3 make the list.
Top 3 matches, just different personal order. Great year for games, looking forward to another.
Just replace Uncharted with Nioh & that's my top 5, just in different order.
What, no Sonic Mania?
Only game in the list that isn't a sequel or a remake is Horizon. And it's number one!
@Turismo4GT Sonic Mania came in joint 12th — not too far off top ten!
I wish I enjoyed Horizon as much as everyone else
The Push Square people have spoken. I think there is a good mix here. I would have liked a few smaller indie titles to crack the top ten but that's democracy for you...
@MadAussieBloke: Agreed, it is shame Nioh is no where to be found.
4 of my 5 in the top 10... I am sure ACOrigins would have done better if more people had played it. The top 2 were both in my top 5 with H:ZD easily the best game of the year for me...
@ShogunRok ok cool, thanks.
Very strong list, nice work guys!
Not a bad list mine would have Hellblade and Nioh in there.
Top two games were my choice but no love for nex machina, a wildly addictive game
All-Mother be praised indeed! But that Top 10 list is excellent. All amazing games.
@Ryno There are alot of great games not here. I think its due to so many of them releasing and so close together. Jan -June 2017 was Packed. I litterally had to choose which games to play based on how much time i had so i havent played Nier or Nioh yet.
HZD and U:TLL would have been my picks, but since the voting system didn't work, i didn't actually vote.
as for the rest, either indifferent experiences with previous games in the franchise (wolfenstein / AC), wasn't thrilled by the demo (nier, resident evil), or the genre doesn't really appeal to me (persona 5).
NieR:A is still clearly my personal GOTY not even Persona or Horizon had such an impact on me, though both are great games themselves and came quite close.
Also had a blast falling through the sky with Kat and adventuring with Chloe and Nadine.
Smashed some heads and had a few drinks with Goro Majima for the very first time just recently and by now that game really got a grip on me.
Maybe Bayeks Revenge has to wait a while - although it's already on my HDD...
Still on the fence with Resi 7...
Whether I like Persona 5 or Horizon better just depends on my mood when you ask. Both games are masterpieces in my eyes. Recently picked up Gravity Rush remastered, and I've fallen in love with it so I'm sure the second will be among my favorites as well. Still need to grab Nier too. Not interested in the rest of the list, all great games for sure, just not on my radar.
The people didn't let me down.
Sad that Hellblade didn't make the top 10, but oh well.
I'm really happy that Gravity Rush 2 is on top 10, thanks guys. The game is really awesome.
This list proves that Sony had an amazing year with many exclusives. Horizon Zero Dawn is my goty as well, in fact, it's my game of the generation. ^^
No Hellblade, Nioh or Pyre... shame. At least Gravity Rush scraped in.
Good lineup but the voting I found to be a bit redundant anyway since the forums already voted on a GOTY which more or less spoke for the community anyway, plus there was some notable omissions from PS's voting list, GT Sport been one of them.
@leucocyte I actually didn’t like Nier ‘s demo either and couldn’t see what all the fuss was about, but I finally succumbed to the hype in the forums and played it over the last month and just fell in love with it. The demo gives you a feel for it’s gameplay, but it really is a better experience when you play it in context in its entirety. It became my personal GOTY. Just my 2 cents.
Awesome, happy that Gravity Rush 2 made it on the list. I've often thought it would have been nice if Sony had made a full anime series, just so Gravity Rush could get more love. They made the Persona 4 and Final Fantasy XV animes through their A1 Pictures, so why not Gravity Rush? Busy working on Persona 5: The Animation I guess (which I am looking forward to, make no mistake). Maybe someone will make it in Dreams.
Great list!
The Pushquare list is better imo
Good list but where is Nioh?
@Th3solution agreed. Most of the time I would say demos are great. But the nier demo may not of helped it out much. I also didn't much care for demo, but its probably my goty.
Any chance of showing us the votes tally? Just wondering how much of a landslide it was for HZD.
I'm also curious where GT Sport would have come if it had been shortlisted. At least 10 people mentioned it in comments.
Nier was league's ahead of everything else far as I'm concerned. Horizon is a technical showcase and a great game, but I've no urge to go back to it. P5 is a jrpg so I just can't say anything about it (I don't play them as a genre. Not my thing). Nice to see Wolfenstein in the top 10
Why cant i ride a stormbird into the sunset???? WHY?!?!?!
