@SeaDaVie I mean, the R&C games are well regarded for their creativity. As was Resistance and Sunset Overdrive - the two games I'd like to see more of.
You listing their failures and games no one actually played doesn't negate their triumphs, and it doesn't negate the fact that even another R&C game is in fact going to be more original than yet another goddamn slice of Marvel media.
@Arkz And that's totally fair. At the same time I like the slow progression of GT7. Feels like I actually "earned" the new cars (for what it's worth, I think FH5 is garbage in that sense).
At the same time, I remember checking my in-game clock - at 50 hours I had over 100 cars. A new car quicker than every half hour felt generous enough.
@w1p3out I'm so bored of Sony's endless parade of third-person action games.
Things like Twisted Metal and (heyyo) WipEout are what got me hooked into the ecosystem to begin with. I appreciate they're not mega money spinners, but I've zero interest in the direction they're going. Even Housemarque has pivoted away from pure arcade.
I barely turn on my PS5 these days, but I'm genuinely tempted to buy a new PC and go play BallisticNG until my eyes are raw.
@cburg You casually skipped the bit where Marvel shopped Spider-Man to Microsoft, they failed to see the appeal of (checks notes) one of the biggest fictional characters of all-time while saying "wubba-lubba, we're concentrating on our own exclusives".
So Sony stepped in and you got the classic Spider-Man game. Marvel are clearly confident in their ability to deliver, hence there's this Wolverine game. Sony didn't moneyhat any of this.
@Arkz The FACT is you've bought a game with generous amount of content and want to skip most of it. The FACT is there's always been an element of grind to the GT series and the MTX present here have no bearing on it.
The FACT is if you want a game with zero sense of progression then Forza Horizon 5 is available. That hands you hyper-cars in the first hour.
I'd say the driving model is one of the worst things about Forza Horizon 5 - it's floaty and unengaging. Pretty much the opposite of every good arcade racer you can think of.
@romanista It's a classic! I love his little wobble.
Funnily enough, to this day SMK is still my favourite kart racer. Playing it at my cousin's house in 1993 blew my tiny mind and nothing has come close since.
CTR and Sega All-star Racing Transformed take silver and bronze.
@Radekbejbl1 Right? I remember when the whole idea of trophies/achievements was for them to be similar to an old school high score in the arcades. Want your name up there? Then you'd better have skill and be damn good at the game.
Now? It's like "congratulations on consuming the story/content you paid for, and following a collectibles guide".
I got it last year, and finally hardwired the console. I finished R&C Into The Nexus via streaming. Could feel the latency, but was still perfectly playable.
@Dalamar Remember kids: when stating something is overrated, you're expressing a personal opinion, so yes, when you don't like something it is in fact overrated.
@Americansamurai1 Yeah Sony are so obsessed with live service that they've cancelled most of the LS games they had in development and pivoted back to single player.
@Leeg They are priced steeply. This is the first gen ever where after five years they're at least ten percent more expensive than after launch, not forty to fifty percent cheaper.
As a launch day PS5 owner, I'd have been interested in this game if it wasn't a technical mess, but hey ho it is.
That said, if my PS5 (my only console) went caput tomorrow, I wouldn't be bothered replacing it. Gaming has become too cynical, too messy, and (comparatively) too expensive. It's brought me back to playing music and reading lots more, so "thanks", I guess.
@Rich33 Agree there, it was definitely the ABK acquisition that pushed the higher ups to take action. What Xbox management seem to miss is a lot of the value of both Zenimax and ABK was the fact that their output is available everywhere. Buying the likes of TES, Diablo, Doom, CoD, etc. seems like a solid plan on paper, but the reality is cutting off the biggest portion of their playerbases wasn't. Microsoft's acquisition effectively diminished the value of those IPs.
I do wonder about next gen, and where are Sony going with it. I've usually bought my main console as close as possible to launch, but I see absolutely zero appeal in getting a PS6 early days. No doubt there'll be another protracted cross-gen period, the big games will take an eternity to materialize, and the smaller/interesting/indie titles don't push tech boundaries and will run on most things.
@Questionable_Duck It means that Sony recognises that a suprise breakout hit that lives or dies by the size of its active playerbase can use the influx of (checks notes) new players.
Vs. one of the games that defined Xbox's entire brand going to their number one rival's console. It's not even remotely comparable.
Besides, did you casually miss Microsoft's multiformat push? The Xbox Series line dying a death at retail and it effectively pulling out entirely of several markets?
But if you think the Xbox is doing tickety-boo then I'm more than happy to hear your rationale. I'll wait ☺️☺️☺️
@Bentleyma You're surprised the biggest multiformat publisher going took a wedge of cash to have their four year old game that's well past its sales peak as a Plus game?
Won't be playing it myself as I've fallen out of love with gaming in general, never really clicked with the franchise (the run kinda gave me motion sickness), and I'm of the opinion that the frenetic action of Vanquish is infinitely better, but I'd never thought I'd see the day (especially as I spent most of the 360/PS3 era working in gaming retail).
This is a hair's width away from "Sonic on Nintendo", and a real (re)defining moment for the industry.
@Lowdefal Gears was Microsoft's big push with the 360. It defined the glory years of that console (which in turn was Microsoft's glory years with console gaming).
I was working in GameStop while at university. Gears 2 launch during that period, and it was basically "bigger than Jesus". The only Xbox exclusive that had as much hype was Halo 3.
How they procured the Gears franchise vs. Halo is here nor there. Gears coming to PlayStation is a tacit admission by Microsoft that Xbox is dead.
@Lysterao The trophy "hunter" is effectively manipulating their trophy list by skipping these games.
It's akin to not popping a credit into a Pac-Man or Space Invaders cabinet back in the day because they can't get their initials to the top of the high score table. Absolutely wild mentality.

@SeaDaVie I'd prefer to see original things like Sunset Overdrive, or a new Resistance game.
Not another piece of mind-numbing Marvel media.

So disappointed that one of Sony's most creative studios is stuck pumping out done-to-death superhero shlock like this.

Really wish I could get into these games. The quality is evident, I enjoy methodical and slow paced games too, but they just don't click.

@Northern_munkey I hope there is for the same reason.

Simpler times.

@Shepherd_Tallon The latency inherit to the Portal would make it a big no for me on that.

@nessisonett Yep. I bought it for €7.50 many moons ago (2018 I think), and it always surprised me how I could find games on a whim over the years.
Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS1 at Launch?
Got one early 1997. That was a lot of fish washing at home to enhance my pocket money.
Tekken 2 + official memory card were my first purchases. Then, Twisted Metal World tour and the original WipEout for my birthday the same year.
WipEout 2097 happens to be my favourite game ever made, so it holds that place in my heart too.

Great art direction and music in the first game, and not a lot else.
Zero interest in this.

Weird feeling to realise you've lived through the golden ages of gaming (circa 1993 to 2010), and it's long since in the rearview mirror.

@J2theEzzo I found it to be massively overrated too. Great visuals and music, but that's about it.
Re: Gears of War Reckons It's Ended the Console War as Reloaded Tops 1 Million Players
@Questionable_Duck Not this again. Like I said, when they do port God of War or The Last of Us to Xbox I'll concede. Until such time, big shrug.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for September 2025?
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy You absolutely do not need to have played Psychonauts 1 to enjoy 2.
If you absolutely must, read a two minute synopsis of the first game, then get to enjoying one of the most vivid and rich worlds in gaming.

One of the few things I missed when I sold my Series X was playing that at locked 60FPS.

@Stale-Bread I too was once 21 (somewhere in between the first two Halo games, sheesh!), but no longer am 🙈
Re: Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5) - Iconic Xbox Shooter Is the Perfect Intro for PlayStation Fans
@Bsb56 I said The Last of Us Remastered, which did have multiplayer. In fact, it had more maps than the base PS3 game.
Re: Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5) - Iconic Xbox Shooter Is the Perfect Intro for PlayStation Fans
The fact this is just a shade under 20 years old makes me feel ancient.
Re: Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5) - Iconic Xbox Shooter Is the Perfect Intro for PlayStation Fans
@Bsb56 Uncharted Collection, The Last of Us Remastered, if you want to make direct comparisons to Halo and Gears.
Re: Metal Gear Solid Delta's Dismal PS5 Pro Support Could Use a Rethink

This has been the case since the early days of gaming, it's not exactly a new phenomenon.

@OptimusPrime1 Using the same logic charging money to buy a console and a game in the first place is paywalling single player platinums.
