@Sifi The PS4 sold extremely well, as has the PS5. MS needed a cheaper Xbox far more than Sony need a cheaper PS5, the sales figures demonstrate that. An underpowered PS5 makes no sense within the PlayStation ecosystem.
@Gamer83 It was only a few weeks ago that Insomniac accidentally left the debug mode enabled in the release version of Spiderman 2. Mistakes happen, and as yet nobody has been forthcoming with evidence that removing the posters was anything but that in this case, either.
@Titntin It's just a difference of opinion between two writers, and highlights why it's important to read several reviews of games from a variety of sources. Eurogamer have given it 6/10, so the low score here isn't exactly an outlier unfortunately, but the note positive reviews are good to see as I've been looking forward to playing this for a while.
@Mortal That's also true, but I figured people might go for them if they're "free" as a Stars reward, when the better choice is to just take the money!
Just take the £5 or £20 credit, these specific rewards make no sense. 1,250 points gets you £5 credit, yet the same number of points only gets you a £4 Helldivers Super Credits bundle. That's not a reward at all.
One of the most disappointing games I've bought this generation. Utterly soulless, unimaginative and a total betrayal of the BF fan base in favour of shoehorning in "hero shooter" mechanics and the associated monetisation. I won't ignore the fact that they've put a decent amount of effort into getting the game back into something resembling a proper BF game but for me the damage was already done, and even when I've revisited it since I still find it frustrating to play and the pace far too quick.
When a game like Helldivers 2 comes along and shows that a multiplayer title can be polished, fun, not geared towards micro transactions and at half the price of some new releases, it makes you wonder just how badly-managed 2042 was as a project.
@Sil_Am Trophies are less of a concern on PC, in my experience. People are far more interested in having all their games under Steam than anything else. Games with Epic Games Store exclusivity for example have seen slow sales for that reason alone. The only way Sony could have any impact in that space is by offering a PS Plus equivalent on PC via their own launcher like MS does with PC Game Pass. People will still want to buy and own their games on Steam though.
@TrickyDicky99 Probably because the PC market is an area where Sony sees potential for growth using recent, successful games it already has to hand. They appear to feel comfortable that they aren't cannibalising console sales using that approach, so there's no reason for console-only players to feel alienated that PC gamers are eventually getting those titles.
Porting a load of old PSVR1 games to PSVR2 isn't going to lead to PSVR2 growth. I'd love to see it, but it's not going to happen. People want new first-party games (and HL: Alyx) more than anything else.
@Sil_Am Fans are not being alienated at all. Sony's focus is clearly console-first, even if they choose to close the gap between PS and PC release dates.
Steam is fundamental to the success of PS games on PC, if Epic can't get people to use their store by giving away games weekly then yet another PS-specific store has no hope.
It is a bit strange this has only ever been US-only. Bit like back in the PS3 days where the US had a weird little news ticker type thing in the corner of the XMB, although I'm glad we never got that one.
@havoc33 I'm not suggesting Nintendo should do it again, I'm merely demonstrating that sitting on a sofa is not the only popular way to engage in gaming. The Quest's relative popularity shows there is a market for VR out there.
@TrickyDicky99 I'm comparing it to what was available when it was released over a year ago, as did the many reviews which were largely very positive about it. I'd hope anything since would be an improvement given how quickly the VR hardware market moves at the moment, but even newer headsets are launching without features the PSVR2 has. I'd rather have adaptive triggers and eye tracking which are genuinely useful in gaming than some fancy mixed reality stuff.
@havoc33 The Wii's USP was that it got people up and moving around instead of slumped on a sofa and it was a massive success as a result. VR's main barrier is ultimately that you need to have experienced it yourself to "get" it and see what it feels like.
@TrickyDicky99 Disagree, I think it's very good. Agreed the lenses are a shortcoming but comfort and adjustment is good and the controllers are excellent, the triggers in particular make using weapons in VR feel really immersive.
@MomsSpaghetti Having played a bit of both, as good as they neither of them really capture the "magic" of VR in the same way that, say, Red Matter 1 and 2 do which are designed entirely as VR experiences.
It's a real shame that PSVR2 has been let down the way it has. The hardware is excellent and offers plenty of functionality not found on the Quest headsets, and the actual game library is sizeable and offers quite a few hidden gems so the "lack of games" complaint doesn't really hold up.
The real issue has been that Sony haven't done enough to really push those games or demonstrate why a game or series non-VR players have never heard of is worth a look. More crucially, the potential for some excellent, system-selling first-party games really hasn't been realised; games take time to make these days but Sony's talk of making VR development easier alongside traditional flat games doesn't appear to have resulted in much yet.
There's still plenty of good games available for it and more on the way but I was hoping that, after owning one for over a year, I'd have more PS-specific stuff to look forward to.
The recent Grounded II documentary was sobering to watch; considering how the TLoU2 leaks and death threats impacted him and the sort of attitudes evidently still prevalent in certain sections of the community years later, I'm not surprised he's thinking about getting away from it in future.
@NeonPizza You can't have it all on a gaming-focused headset costing £530 either. Both companies made compromises yet you seem more willing to forgive Meta's for some reason.
The hardware is already proven to be excellent, no amount of changes to it will fix the fact that it currently has an image problem due to lacklustre marketing/comms and an apparent lack of first-party support. The vast majority of PS5 owners who are interested in VR just want more games and a price cut.
@NeonPizza You're deliberately overlooking some of the advantages offered by PSVR2 though. The haptics and triggers are better, the quality of visuals and game performance is better, it supports eye tracking and while the cable can be annoying it also means you're not constrained by battery life. A friend has a Quest 3 and a few times lately has had to charge it while using it just to finish a game of Walkabout Mini Golf. I have no complaints with the comfort of mine either, meanwhile the Quest 3 has an entire range of aftermarket heads traps designed to solve shortcomings with the default one.
As much as a headset that combines all the good features of both would be great, it'd also be incredibly expensive. Price is already a barrier to entry for PSVR2 for many, pushing the price up further won't help it. It needs a first-party push and some marketing momentum to drum up excitement, not some ringless controllers and colour cameras.
@Juanalf They haven't pulled the plug at all. They announced several games for it in the past few weeks alone and the library is already quite large.
What it is lacking is first-party support and a bit of marketing momentum. As much as I'm very excited by the prospect of Metro and Zombie Army in VR, I'd have liked it's first anniversary to have featured at least some news about first-party or exclusive titles. Before release they made a point of saying they would help studios to build development processes that enabled VR titles/modes to be built alongside flat versions but so far we're not hearing too much of what that's achieved.
They also aren't doing a great job of communicating with PSVR2 owners about what's already available for it; people regularly say they want HL Alyx, meanwhile excellent titles like Red Matter 1 & 2 get overlooked. Perhaps they need to start offering more trials or something.
It's an expensive bit of high-end kit so it was never going to sell volumes; people are much too keen to sound the death knell for it prematurely. I don't get to use mine as much as I'd like but when I do it's excellent, and I have a backlog of games to play and more I plan to buy.
A particularly extended development period doesn't always indicate trouble; Harold Halibut has been in development for 8 years but the Steam demo was great and it's due out later on the year. Kentucky Route Zero is another, it was released in acts but there were years between the final few instalments.
@GingerAsh That's a bit of an overreaction over three missing trophies. Just play the PS4 version if you're intending to get the plats.
It's listed as a PS5 game to improve PS Store listing visibility for PS5 owners. There'll also be plenty of PS4 owners who would just ignore PS4 games entirely.
Hopefully it fixes a couple of issues I've had, one with a side mission not working (the guy drops dead as soon as I approach him) and purchased vehicles not appearing in the vehicle list.
@Enigk You and me both. I really don't understand how they could be completely out of stock for so long. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if they've been discontinued completely given the focus is always on the other colours.
@WolfyTn He is a violent offender: "The court heard that Kurtaj had been violent while in custody with dozens of reports of injury or property damage."
He also kept offending even when on bail and has expressed intent to commit further offences. For his and the public's protection an indefinite order in hospital is evidently necessary, and to ensure he gets the medical care needed.
I watched the PS Access stream of this on Monday and it looked great, you can be pretty clever and creative with how you approach things. Looking forward to giving it a go.
I'm not sure it's your internet speed that really matters here, more your WiFi performance given that's how it's connecting to your network and then the PS5. Having the PS5 wired should improve things noticeably as otherwise the available WiFi bandwidth is being used by both devices simultaneously. It'll be interesting to see some more testing done on this though.
@Bez87 There will still be multiple SKUs, as they'll be selling versions with and without the disc drive included. It does streamline manufacturing though.
I'm very happy with mine, there are still more good games for it than I've had time to play so far. I had a weekend a couple of months back where I was feeling rather unwell, and Bus Simulator was genuinely exactly the type of game I needed at that time. It was sedate, a bit fiddly but oddly satisfying once you get into a routine of all the actions required (indicate, controlled stop, lower bus, open doors, close doors, raise bus, indicate etc), and building out your routes and fleet and exploring more of the map was enjoyable. I'm not sure if or when I'll go back to it but it's a decently polished experience and it's good to see them continuing to support it. @Hydra_Spectre PS2 backwards compatibility was removed long before the slim PS3 consoles were released. When I bought my 40GB 'fat' PS3 in early 2008 the 60GB backwards-compatible models had already been discontinued, in the UK at least.
