Re: Battlefield 2042 Support to End with Season 7 as Next Game Ramps Up

MrHabushi

One of the most disappointing games I've bought this generation. Utterly soulless, unimaginative and a total betrayal of the BF fan base in favour of shoehorning in "hero shooter" mechanics and the associated monetisation. I won't ignore the fact that they've put a decent amount of effort into getting the game back into something resembling a proper BF game but for me the damage was already done, and even when I've revisited it since I still find it frustrating to play and the pace far too quick.

When a game like Helldivers 2 comes along and shows that a multiplayer title can be polished, fun, not geared towards micro transactions and at half the price of some new releases, it makes you wonder just how badly-managed 2042 was as a project.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Off to a Sturdy Enough Start on PC

MrHabushi

@Sil_Am Trophies are less of a concern on PC, in my experience. People are far more interested in having all their games under Steam than anything else. Games with Epic Games Store exclusivity for example have seen slow sales for that reason alone. The only way Sony could have any impact in that space is by offering a PS Plus equivalent on PC via their own launcher like MS does with PC Game Pass. People will still want to buy and own their games on Steam though.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Off to a Sturdy Enough Start on PC

MrHabushi

@TrickyDicky99 Probably because the PC market is an area where Sony sees potential for growth using recent, successful games it already has to hand. They appear to feel comfortable that they aren't cannibalising console sales using that approach, so there's no reason for console-only players to feel alienated that PC gamers are eventually getting those titles.

Porting a load of old PSVR1 games to PSVR2 isn't going to lead to PSVR2 growth. I'd love to see it, but it's not going to happen. People want new first-party games (and HL: Alyx) more than anything else.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Off to a Sturdy Enough Start on PC

MrHabushi

@Sil_Am Fans are not being alienated at all. Sony's focus is clearly console-first, even if they choose to close the gap between PS and PC release dates.

Steam is fundamental to the success of PS games on PC, if Epic can't get people to use their store by giving away games weekly then yet another PS-specific store has no hope.

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

MrHabushi

@TrickyDicky99 I'm comparing it to what was available when it was released over a year ago, as did the many reviews which were largely very positive about it. I'd hope anything since would be an improvement given how quickly the VR hardware market moves at the moment, but even newer headsets are launching without features the PSVR2 has. I'd rather have adaptive triggers and eye tracking which are genuinely useful in gaming than some fancy mixed reality stuff.

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

MrHabushi

It's a real shame that PSVR2 has been let down the way it has. The hardware is excellent and offers plenty of functionality not found on the Quest headsets, and the actual game library is sizeable and offers quite a few hidden gems so the "lack of games" complaint doesn't really hold up.

The real issue has been that Sony haven't done enough to really push those games or demonstrate why a game or series non-VR players have never heard of is worth a look. More crucially, the potential for some excellent, system-selling first-party games really hasn't been realised; games take time to make these days but Sony's talk of making VR development easier alongside traditional flat games doesn't appear to have resulted in much yet.

There's still plenty of good games available for it and more on the way but I was hoping that, after owning one for over a year, I'd have more PS-specific stuff to look forward to.

Re: Video: One Year Later, Is PSVR2 Doing Enough?

MrHabushi

@NeonPizza You can't have it all on a gaming-focused headset costing £530 either. Both companies made compromises yet you seem more willing to forgive Meta's for some reason.

The hardware is already proven to be excellent, no amount of changes to it will fix the fact that it currently has an image problem due to lacklustre marketing/comms and an apparent lack of first-party support. The vast majority of PS5 owners who are interested in VR just want more games and a price cut.

Re: Video: One Year Later, Is PSVR2 Doing Enough?

MrHabushi

@NeonPizza You're deliberately overlooking some of the advantages offered by PSVR2 though. The haptics and triggers are better, the quality of visuals and game performance is better, it supports eye tracking and while the cable can be annoying it also means you're not constrained by battery life. A friend has a Quest 3 and a few times lately has had to charge it while using it just to finish a game of Walkabout Mini Golf. I have no complaints with the comfort of mine either, meanwhile the Quest 3 has an entire range of aftermarket heads traps designed to solve shortcomings with the default one.

As much as a headset that combines all the good features of both would be great, it'd also be incredibly expensive. Price is already a barrier to entry for PSVR2 for many, pushing the price up further won't help it. It needs a first-party push and some marketing momentum to drum up excitement, not some ringless controllers and colour cameras.

Re: Video: One Year Later, Is PSVR2 Doing Enough?

MrHabushi

@Juanalf They haven't pulled the plug at all. They announced several games for it in the past few weeks alone and the library is already quite large.

What it is lacking is first-party support and a bit of marketing momentum. As much as I'm very excited by the prospect of Metro and Zombie Army in VR, I'd have liked it's first anniversary to have featured at least some news about first-party or exclusive titles. Before release they made a point of saying they would help studios to build development processes that enabled VR titles/modes to be built alongside flat versions but so far we're not hearing too much of what that's achieved.

They also aren't doing a great job of communicating with PSVR2 owners about what's already available for it; people regularly say they want HL Alyx, meanwhile excellent titles like Red Matter 1 & 2 get overlooked. Perhaps they need to start offering more trials or something.

It's an expensive bit of high-end kit so it was never going to sell volumes; people are much too keen to sound the death knell for it prematurely. I don't get to use mine as much as I'd like but when I do it's excellent, and I have a backlog of games to play and more I plan to buy.

Re: GTA 6 Hacker Ruled a High Risk to the Public, Sentenced to Life in Hospital

MrHabushi

@WolfyTn He is a violent offender:
"The court heard that Kurtaj had been violent while in custody with dozens of reports of injury or property damage."

He also kept offending even when on bail and has expressed intent to commit further offences. For his and the public's protection an indefinite order in hospital is evidently necessary, and to ensure he gets the medical care needed.

Re: Hardware Review: PS Portal Is the Perfect PS5 Companion (For Some)

MrHabushi

I'm not sure it's your internet speed that really matters here, more your WiFi performance given that's how it's connecting to your network and then the PS5. Having the PS5 wired should improve things noticeably as otherwise the available WiFi bandwidth is being used by both devices simultaneously. It'll be interesting to see some more testing done on this though.

Re: PSVR2 Is 'Important' to Sony, But 'PS5 Is the Core'

MrHabushi

I'm very happy with mine, there are still more good games for it than I've had time to play so far. Horizon is a brilliant showcase for the visuals the PS5 can deliver in VR, while Red Matter 2 has probably been the most immersive and responsive game I've played on it yet. I didn't buy into PSVR2 expecting a deluge of AAA games though so perhaps those unhappy with it had loftier expectations.

That being said, we're well overdue Sony announcing some further first-party plans for it, or throwing money at some other devs to build some exclusives, because it really needs to pick up momentum again. It clearly wasn't a lazily or cheaply designed product so you'd hope Sony understands the need to keep pushing with it.

Re: Bus Simulator 21 Turns to Trams on PS5, PS4 Next Month

MrHabushi

I had a weekend a couple of months back where I was feeling rather unwell, and Bus Simulator was genuinely exactly the type of game I needed at that time. It was sedate, a bit fiddly but oddly satisfying once you get into a routine of all the actions required (indicate, controlled stop, lower bus, open doors, close doors, raise bus, indicate etc), and building out your routes and fleet and exploring more of the map was enjoyable. I'm not sure if or when I'll go back to it but it's a decently polished experience and it's good to see them continuing to support it. If it hadn't been on PS Plus Extra I doubt I'd have ever tried it.

Re: You'll Need an Internet Connection to Pair PS5 Slim's Optional Blu-ray Drive

MrHabushi

@JokerBoy422 This seems a bit of an overreaction. It's a one-time pairing of a disc drive which will, for the vast majority of users, be permanently attached to the console. It'll be part of the console setup process.

I get the impression people are misinterpreting it to mean they need a connection every time they use the drive, which doesn't appear to be the case at all.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1?

MrHabushi

I replayed 1-4 (incl the HD Collection) on my PS3 just earlier in the year so I won't be picking this up anytime soon. They're all still great games though and they hold up well, though MGS4 was clearly pushing the PS3 past it's comfort levels as it really chugs at times.

While I can somewhat understand why the Master Collection is effectively just a re-release of the existing games (why remaster them only to then sell remakes later down the line?), it's still a real shame that a bit more effort wasn't put in, and £50 is a steep asking price as a result.
