This is promising to see, the PS4 Pro provided pretty meagre improvements - if at all - for non-updated titles so the PS5 Pro had to do far better in that respect to justify it's cost.
@_Nightsever_ I didn't say Amazon Japan wasn't credible, rather I was suggesting that a chart on a Japanese retailer website isn't much use to those of us in the rest of the world. The confusion was partly a result of people somewhat understandably assuming that covers would fit both SKUs given the apparent design similarities, but ultimately it was caused by Sony not simply stating plainly in the Pro announcement and press releases that current covers would not be compatible, instead of employing the usual PR speak that dances around the point. The stand fits, the optical drive fits, it was reasonable to think the covers would too.
Anyway, at least it's all finally been clarified now.
I'd flippantly say the best time was at launch, considering they've only gone up in price since then. Nonetheless, it's pretty clear the PS6 won't be here anytime soon so there's no point hanging on for that instead.
@_Nightsever_ The blog post at the time wasn't explicitly clear, and the chart you're presumably referring to appears to be something Amazon Japan cooked up themselves. Sony could have simply clarified in the first instance instead of dancing around the fact.
There was plenty of reason to assume they would fit, especially with the announcement of the new Chroma range not mentioning anything about being incompatible with the Pro.
I'm all for criticising those who don't read what's in front of them or do the most basic research, but it's apparent there was a lot of confusion and incorrect information going around up to this point. Making both consoles use the same covers would've been the common sense approach, but that appears to be in short supply these days.
A baffling design decision, really. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt they there may be some legitimate technical reason for the mounting points being located differently on the two SKUs, but it seems like something they could have accounted for, especially as they would have been designing both consoles at the same time.
The covers can occasionally be hard enough to track down as it is - I had to wait the better part of a year for the black original ones to come back in stock - so making Pro-only ones isn't going to help.
@TrickyDicky99 I clearly wasn't disputing it's sold poorly, I'm disputing that it's even remotely comparable to a game selling only a handful of copies before removed from sale forever.
@Dalejrfanfreak I think it's fair for the reviewer to feel slightly differently about the game nearly 8 years later, and with the benefit of having played the sequel as well as various other open world games since then.
@TrickyDicky99 PSVR2 is still on sale, still supported and still getting games. It clearly hasn't been a success but it's at least bringing revenue in.
Disappointing, Deck Nine seems to be losing their touch, a real shame considering True Colours was excellent The higher price and early access shenanigans put me off preordering or buying this at launch anyway, so I'll definitely be waiting a while now.
@Aelynn The £20 redemption has always been 5,000 points for me, I used it one a couple of weeks ago and some time last year and both cost me 5,000. The £10 option I now have instead is 2,500.
Looking forward to this one, the Deluxe Edition with the season pass included seems like decent value too. From the gameplay footage I've already seen it largely looks like more of the same, but I'm okay with that.
I do wish Rebellion had done to Sniper Elite what IOI did with Hitman though; have all the content updated and available under one game so older missions/levels could be revisited with the benefit of updated visuals and gameplay features. Maybe not all the way back to the first game, but at least the more recent ones from 3 or 4 onwards.
I have a £10 option now instead of the £5 and £20 options. What they really need to fix are the points value of the games offered, the wallet reward is far better value.
@thefourfoldroot1 It was £3.99 in August just after they announced the Remake, I grabbed it myself and then got the £8 upgrade today. Bargain! I didn't have PSVR so I'm more than happy for games to be re-released on PSVR2.
You don't need the original game installed either, the upgrade will show up if you find it in your collection.
@Rich33 You can tap L1/R1 to quickly change between drives, but yes it would be good to have a second option a bit like the accessory battery life one to show both at the same time. Hopefully they add it later.
I had a brief play around with it last night when it appeared. Some of the sections seem useful for checking at a glance, but I think they now need to look at what's doubled up, e.g. the game news section on both the Welcome screen and when you press the PS button. One or the other please.
@CrashBandicoat Neither, the controller and flash memory are soldered onto the motherboard with thermal pads to conduct heat away via one of the large metal shields inside which sandwich the mainboard. It was a completely custom solution so it doesn't really resemble anything seen on PC. There shouldn't be any issues with cooling, but there might be issues caused by a lifetime of constant writes from the PS5's game capture function.
@ShaneReactions It wasn't PS4 Pro enhanced as it never received an update. It had an uncapped framerate however which meant the Boost mode was able to slightly improve performance and smooth out FPS drops.
@Titntin You would be mental to give away the cover considering what these consoles could be worth in future as a complete set. Don't chuck the box either!
@nedbvai I hate to break it to you but it absolutely is real life, we're all humans having a real conversation about a real thing. It's not a bunch of bots criticising the price or questioning Sony's recent decision making, it's actual gamers, the people Sony wants buying the thing. Evidently they've managed to convince some people that the crisper leaves and more realistic hair in some games are worth the price of admission but there are plenty who aren't. That may shift as more is revealed of its capabilities but Sony's reduced first-party output so far this gen is going to hurt then here unless they announce something big soon.
The PS4 Pro apparently accounted for a fifth of all PS4 sales, at twice the price the PS5 Pro will really struggle to get anywhere near there figure.
@nedbvai It's twice the price of the previous Pro console, people are more than entitled to raise concerns about the price, especially if it's an indication of where pricing may go in the next generation. This is a mid-generation spec bump don't forget, it's functionally not doing anything new other than pushing a few more pixels around.
As for "the Internet isn't a real place", unless you think we're all AI-powered chatbots I think you'll find it very much is.
@Frmknst 2042 can at best be described as near-future but it certainly isn't modern, the hint is in the name.
The specialists were/are a terrible inclusion, nobody wanted them and it made no sense having dozens of the same "specialist" running around a map. The only reason they were there was trend-chasing and to sell skins that looked horrendous and didn't fit in with a military shooter theme in the first place.
@NeonMullet Most PS5 owners are turned off because Sony hasn't supported it the way they suggested they would. VR is a tough sell as it is, the price at lunch made that tougher and while I wholeheartedly disagree with people who say it has no games, it doesn't have many exclusives or games that show what it can really do. They had the benefit of launching before the Q3 and totally wasted it. For the longest time the PSVR2 category wasn't even immediately visible on the PS Store and I suspect it wasn't being kept up-to-date properly either; I keep an eye on it and I'm convinced I've seen games that have apparently been out for months suddenly appear on the list.
There's absolutely no need for a refresh when the current one has had so much negative press and user coverage, a wireless one won't fix that.
@Pranwell It's no faff at all to plug a cable into the PS5 and then into a controller, especially if you don't always have a socket free nearby. Plus you can charge multiple devices at once.
@sanderson72 The US has often had different features to the rest of the world, on the PS3 for example they had a news ticker thing in the corner of the XMB under the clock. Their PS Store layout was significantly different too and they had loads of free stuff likenthemes and avatars that Europe never got.
The PC demo didn't wow me, visually it was decent enough but movement and animations felt far more basic than the Dark Pictures games and The Quarry. I also agree on the lack of interaction with the environment, there were a couple of hidden things to find but most things couldn't be touched or moved and most doors were just textures.
@Zeke68 Black and white is a key part of the PS5's brand and design, they probably won't sell it solely as an all-black version. Especially when they can sell you the extra covers as an additional purchase instead.
The more storage you have, the more you'll fill it. There's just no need for 8TB or storage on a console.
@DaniPooo Yes you can. You can't use a payment method directly, but then nobody should be doing that anyway given the discounts available on wallet top-ups.
I've been on a bit of an RE marathon lately. I finally did a 2nd run of RE2 Remake as Claire the other week after playing through the first time as Leon back on the PS4. Then moved onto RE3, which I quite enjoyed though it was a bit shorter than RE2 and it's certainly more action orientated.
Now I'm on the Shadow of Rose DLC for RE Village which I'm quite enjoying so far. It's fairly linear but it's great being back in that world again.
Once that's done I'll finally be ready to start RE4 remake; my intention is to play the whole thing through in VR though so it may take a while!
@NEStalgia It turns the internal power to the USB ports off once the controllers are charged, whereas currently it stays on either for a set amount of time (3 hours) or permanently whether something is connected/charged or not.
Thanks for reviewing this, someone sent me the extended gameplay preview a few days ago and it immediately looked like my kind of thing, great to see it being well received.
I doubt we'll ever get a clear first-hand explanation as to why it was taken down for a month, but it must have been a significant enough issue for them to do it in the middle of a major promo campaign.
@BrettAwesome People not knowing what gems are in the pretty vast PSVR2 library is a key issue that Sony have largely failed to address. Yes, it absolutely needs more first party support, but Sony also need to be showcasing the third-party and indie offerings because there are some fantastic games in there that others have already mentioned.
The addition of PSVR2 games monthly to PS Plus Premium is a small step in the right direction but they badly need to be doing more, be it with YouTube (PS Access' PSVR2 coverage has been disappointingly poor), the PS Blog, ads etc.
@itsfoz They wouldn't have scheduled to take the scheme offline right in the middle of a massive campaign just make adjustments to rewards etc; this was clearly unplanned. It's more likely either a critical error occurred or a vulnerability/exploit was found requiring it to be immediately suspended.
@sanderson72 If you're not interested in the Extra and Premium games, drop down to the Essential tier. You'd have to be incredibly unlucky to make it through an entire year and not get your money's worth from that.
