Re: Sony Estimated to Have Made $1.5 Billion from Steam, But the Novelty Is Wearing Off

LazyDaisy

I’m not a fan of games being “stuck” on one platform. Putting them on PC/Steam allows them to be playable for more people, and at the highest graphical settings, too. And then there’s the modding community which can extend the life of a game.

The people who don’t want Sony’s exclusives on PC are afraid of PlayStation losing its value, and therefore second-guessing their purchase as potentially pointless.

At the end of the day, if you want a PS, get one. Consoles are still cheaper than a Gaming PC.

Re: PS5 Welcome Hub Update Adds New Stat Tracking, Backgrounds

LazyDaisy

Another reaction from Sony to Nintendo’s recent action.

For those who don’t know, Nintendo recently released an app that logs players’ game stats (total hours, total sessions, etc). This site even wrote an article about it, asking for Sony to do something similar. The only info it’s missing is each date that a game was played, along with the session time that day, which Nintendo shows.

To be fair, total hours and game progress was already something we could see. Only new thing here is sessions played. As a widget, I think this is useless. There needs to be a global way to see our detailed stats, preferably through the PS app.

Re: PlayStation CEO Pushed Through Cut-Price PS5 in Japan After Seeing System Slump Against Switch 2

LazyDaisy

“[…] the PS5’s stationary form factor is always going to put it at a disadvantage.“

That’s pretty much the takeaway here. Nobody has yet to challenge the Switch with its hybrid form yet. Even the Steam Deck doesn’t have detachable controllers or a bundled-in dock. Even if Sony comes out with a handheld, if it’s not hybrid, it won’t have a chance against the Switch. These companies have to understand why the Switch is as popular as it is. Beyond the exclusives, its design is simple and convenient. Having two controllers from the get-go encourages IRL couch co-op/multiplayer, which has become a lost art for PS/Xbox fans. And it’s slim af, not bulky like the other handhelds. I understand why they’re bulky, but it’s not gonna resonate with the masses. Nintendo really hit the best balance between power and portability with the Switch this time around. If Sony just makes a powerful handheld, I don’t see it doing performing very well.

Also I will never take anyone seriously who says that Sony and Nintendo don’t compete. Just because Nintendo doesn’t compete in the specs race doesn’t mean their consoles aren’t still going head-to-head. This is straight from the CEO’s mouth.

Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Really in Competition with TikTok?

LazyDaisy

Sony isn’t competing for your time. If you buy a PS5 Pro, PS+, an extra dualsense controller and 10 games, they’ll be happy. Those 10 games could go untouched for all they care, they got your money.

And it doesn’t look like Sony is going to stop making movie-games anytime soon. But I also wouldn’t mind if they started making more compact games again that prioritize gameplay over story. Astrobot is a great example.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Ghost of Yotei?

LazyDaisy

Spoiler-free:

I’m 40 hours in with only 2/6 bosses crossed off. I’ve been obsessed with exploring as much as I can. It’s really cool that the spyglass is practical, because when you spot a new area of interest, it will also show up on your map, so you can choose to track it later in case you’re doing something else at the moment. A lot of NPCs help this game feel alive, whether it’s through a quest, or telling you that a hot spring is nearby (which will then show on the map). The combat is nice, but sometimes it’s hard juggling 2-3 enemies + archers. I do find it funny that Atsu has all these different weapons to deal with certain foes, but Jin only needed to shift his feet and swing his sword a different way.

All in all, I’m having a great time with the game. I should put more of a focus on the story missions though.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Getting Sick of Sony's Supposedly 'Samey' Approach to Story Telling?

LazyDaisy

@IntrepidWombat Sony used to be more experimental back then. It feels like the success of The Last of Us tipped Sony into a more cinematic game direction for most of the games that followed.

On another note, the last several years it’s been Last of Us II, Spiderman 2, God of War (2), Ghost 2, etc. and a bunch of cancelled live-service games. I don’t blame anyone who says Sony games feel the same lately, because other than Astro Bot, Wolverine, and Intergalactic, there hasn’t been any totally new single player experiences. And only 1 of those 3 games I just mentioned are currently out. So yeah…

Re: Sony Is a 'Terrible Company' That's 'Blowing It in the Games Business', Says Michael Pachter

LazyDaisy

@jgrangervikings1 He was never big on Nintendo. He almost always threw shade at them. I remember this one site called GoNintendo made so many posts about this guy that the community got sick of it and convinced the site runner (Dan?) to stop featuring him. Sometimes he’s featured on NintendoLife and is met with similar distaste from fans.

But I had no idea he dogged on PlayStation too. Is there anything this guy likes?

Re: Ghost of Yotei (PS5) - The Greatest Sucker Punch Game Ever

LazyDaisy

Digital Foundry said that the story/characterization was stronger this time around. Is that really true? From all the trailers I’ve seen, Atsu looks basic. With Jin, we got to see his transformation from Samurai to ghost and how that conflicted with the Shogun. It was a great story of a man who lost his traditional honor.

Re: PS5 Exclusive Ghost of Yotei Is Just Two Weeks Away, So Here's a Gorgeous Cinematic Trailer

LazyDaisy

The people offended at Atsu VA’s personal opinions (on her own social media account, mind you) were never going to buy the game in the first place. If you look hard enough under anyone’s personal life, you’ll find something you don’t like. Doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy things, unless you let these situations hold that kind of power over you.

If this game gets good reviews across the board, then I’ll pick it up.

Re: Enjoy the New Resident Evil Requiem Trailer with Improved PS5 Graphics

LazyDaisy

@LogicStrikesAgain If the wording is clear to you, hopefully the intention behind it is too. The writer is negging the Switch 2, which is unnecessary given the subject of the article. If we were given a comparison video or analysis, it’d make more sense. Also, passively telling me to go somewhere else if I don’t like it doesn’t excuse the writer from constructive criticism of his content.

Re: Enjoy the New Resident Evil Requiem Trailer with Improved PS5 Graphics

LazyDaisy

@LogicStrikesAgain The wording in this article is definitely sus. This article is about the RE9 trailer, but the writer turned it into a Switch 2 vs PS5 debacle. I was expecting a comparison video but we got a screenshot instead. The PS5 is a powerful console and its power doesn’t need to be stated against the Switch 2, especially to users on a PS site.

On another note, there’s such thing as too much darkness. I recently played through RE7 and 8 on PC and had to turn up the game’s brightness to a 6/10 just to not strain my eyes, even though the recommended was 3 or 4 brightness according to their setting recommendations. As a result, the game was slightly washed out. So being able to see Grace’s eyes in the screenshot comparison for Switch 2 may be a blessing in disguise. But I’ll be getting the PC version anyway.
