@james_games That’s completely understandable. Xbox has literally released no games this gen. I have a massive backlog of things to play, and I prefer playing them on the Xbox (I’m also really into Sea of Thieves right now), but I can’t argue that Xbox has games to play currently. I think they’re both great, and you can’t really go wrong with either. If you sell it and change your mind later, you can always pick one up then.
@james_games Depends on your taste, I guess. I have both, but I definitely play my Xbox more. Miles Morales and Astrobot were fantastic. I loved the GoT upgrade. Ratchet and Clank 14 was pretty (why does MS get thrashed for sequels?). I’m really looking forward to God of War and Horizon, and I’m praying for a Sunset Overdrive 2, as well. That said, Xbox will be putting out Forza Horizon 5, Halo, Redfall, Wolfenstein 3, Starfield, ES6 (eventually), Redfall, Fable, State of Decay 3, Indiana Jones, Gears 6, Perfect Dark, Avowed, Hellblade 2, Project Mara, Outerworlds 2, and Contraband. I’m actually really interested in all those games. If you look at the list and don’t see anything you want to play, the Series X probably isn’t for you. I can’t imagine limiting myself to one platform, personally, but I know there are many valid reasons why people only game on one or the other. Play what you love.
Super excited for Horizon, but I have Battlefield, Forza Horizon 3, and Halo to play this fall, so I’m good waiting until next year. There’s really no shortage of games.
9/10 for me. It was close to a 10, but I did get to a point where I was ready for it to be over, and I wanted to move on to something else. So I guess, for me, it slightly outstayed its welcome. I absolutely loved the combat in the game, though. It is so satisfying when you get adept at switching stances in the middle of combat depending on the aggressor.
@Korgon "But in the end my opinion matters little since Nintendo does just fine anyway."
This is the truth. I have all three consoles, and the Nintendo is, by far, my least favorite. I think the games aren't as good as the other two consoles, their philosophy of doing barebones remasters and selling them at full price is questionable, and their stuff never gets discounted. They are a distant third place for me. Mario and Zelda are fun, but I don't like them as much as God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Gears of War, and Ori. As you said, my opinion doesn't matter, as they're doing perfectly fine without me buying up all their games.
@Reeneman I mean, Gears 5, Ori, and Forza Horizon 4 were all fantastic. Not as good as God of War or Ghost of Tsushima for me, but I did like them better than LoU2 and Horizon ZD. There’s a lot of great games out there.
@jmac1686 “Not sure why Xbox continues to push double AAs and rechargeable battery packs.”
I have both and I love the PS5 controller, but I definitely prefer the AA batteries in the Xbox controller. I have eneloops always charging by my couch. If the batteries die, I just reach down and switch out the batteries. Cords NEVER touch my Xbox controller. The longer battery life on the Xbox controller is pretty nice, too.
I think if we’re being real, this comment section wouldn’t be so negative about Deathloop if it was a full Sony exclusive / not a MS studio game. I am curious with how it does with casual audiences, though. I assume it will do similarly to Dishonored (not great).
@The_New_Butler I tend to agree with you. I know Sony doesn’t NEED E3 anymore, but I definitely wish they would do a big event near E3 when everyone else goes. I miss the old days of everyone going around the same time with the big blowout.
@themcnoisy “ a subscription service which will end up costing £20-£25 per month. With games rammed with microtransactions. And you need a £150 additional controller as the Xbox X included controller is rubbish.”
That first comment is complete speculation. If the price goes that high, if people don’t think it’s worth the money, they’ll just buy the games outright. And as far as the controller, I’ve never had an issue with an Xbox controller that wasn’t normal wear and tear of years of using it. I’ve had very similar reliability experiences with my Xbox 1 and PS4 controllers. My Series X and PS5 controllers are both still going strong.
@mrtennis1990 I grew up renting games, beating them, and returning them. I also switched from cd’s to digital music when that came along. The subscription model doesn’t bother me. I have no problem buying games on my PS5, but I use Gamepass on my Xbox.
I know Sony doesn’t NEED to do E3, but I definitely miss them doing it. I love having the one mega event. My brother and I get together to watch the conferences, and it isn’t the same without having Sony there as well. I also miss the live audiences for those events. Maybe next year.
@huntbearpig Interesting. It’s the only one I buy physical for, because it actually reads off the card. It doesn’t full install the games, so it actually saves space. On my XSX and PS5 it does a full install either way, so I usually just go digital there.
Not surprising that Nintendo dominates physical preorders. I would bet money that Nintendo has the highest ratio of physical/digital sales. It’s the only system that I buy physical for, anymore.
@Dodoo “ Sony are successful at managing and nurturing theirs which they’ve done slowly over many years in most cases.”
I do think that people often overlook the fact that Bigbig, Sony Liverpool, Zipper Interactive, Manchester, Incognito, Evolution, and Guerilla Cambridge are 7 studios that Sony has shuttered since 2009.
MS has definitely consolidated more studios, though.
@Col_McCafferty I’m not saying Sony players “wanted” it, but Xbox players weren’t asking for it before it happened either. I’m just saying, if Sony DID buy Bethesda, I sincerely don’t believe the vast majority of people posting about it here would have a problem with it. I also know Xbox players complained about Spiderman going exclusive after having access to Spiderman games for the previous 15 years on Xbox, but if Xbox would’ve gotten Spiderman as an exclusive, those same fans would be floating about it. I’m just saying, fans of each system make up these fake rules that the companies are supposed to adhere to that benefit their own ecosystem. Is what MS did with Bethesda different than what Sony did with Naughty Dog? Absolutely. But MS was quickly becoming irrelevant, and Sony was trying to buy exclusivity for ALL of the Bethesda games, so MS took action (because they have the money to do so). I definitely don’t blame them for trying to remain competitive.
@Col_McCafferty Shocking that people that own the competitor’s hardware think a purchase that improves their ecosystem is a good thing. If Sony bought Bethesda, do you really think Sony players would be upset that they bought a publisher that they didn’t have a “prior relationship with”? You’re lying to yourself if you believe this message board would be filled with a bunch of upset PS fans after that acquisition.
@sanderson72 Some key players left Rare before MS even bought them to form Free Radical (Timesplitters). Another group left Rare to form Playtonic and they made the underwhelming Yooka Laylee. Other than that, I’m not aware of mass exoduses from MS studios. I think the only reason this would happen is if MS stifles talent, which it doesn’t seem like MS is doing. If they’re writing paychecks and letting studios make what they want, why would they leave? I would think it would be most likely to happen at studios like 343 and Coalition that seem locked into single IPs. I would think that would get boring.
@RizPlays You’re a big enough fan to spend £2000 on a game, but you aren’t willing to spend £15 to play it on n xcloud? I spent $40 to play Sunset Overdrive, and I would buy a PS5 just to play the sequel to that game.
@Flaming_Kaiser The only reason Sony didn’t go full exclusive is because they can’t afford it. And I completely agree that they all just care about the money. I’m just saying, I’m not sure why everybody is so butt hurt that MS bought a publisher. They were losing big, now they’re not losing by as much. They still got a long way to go. But they certainly have no reason to play by some set of imaginary rules that fans from the rival consoles make up. Sony got exclusivity on Spiderman, so I bought a PS5. MS has exclusivity on Bethesda games, so PS users can buy an Xbox… or play on their pc, or on their tablet, or phone, or on a tv app. It’s just business. I really don’t care who buys what, except that any time MS buys a studio, I get to play the game on Gamepass.
@theMEGAniggle “Xbox bought a whole publisher, an EA, a Square enix, a Sega, Sony buys developers how can you compare the two?”
I can compare the two because Sony was trying to make ALL of Bethesda published games exclusive. Not some of them, all of them. MS said screw that, and just bought the publisher. Now they don’t have to worry about it. It’s much easier and cheaper for Sony to buy exclusivity because of their larger install base. Moves like that could have absolutely been a knockout blow to MS. They’re doing what they have to to maintain relevance. I’ll go even farther and say that the more and more third party exclusives that Sony purchases, the more studios we’ll see MS purchase. Xbox is obviously tired of the “no games” narrative.
@theMEGAniggle “ it’s very different to what Sony do with their acquisitions and people who say it’s the same are just trolls.”
Sony buys exclusives and Ms buys exclusives. MS isn’t doing anything Sony wouldn’t do if they had more money. Sony already picked up Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo as exclusives and tried to get Starfield as an exclusive, so MS stepped in. Anyone that thinks Sony wouldn’t be doing the same thing if they had more money is just a troll.
I imagine if you only play PS, it probably sucked. If you play PS and Switch, it was probably okay if you love BotW or Metroid. I imagine most people that play on Xbox thought there was some good stuff in that conference.
@Stocksy I’m not familiar with MS shrinking their output. Sony has closed more studios than Xbox. Maybe Rare? But Sea of Thieves has been extremely successful, so it’s hard to fault them for it.
@Stocksy I have all three as well, and I actually love most Xbox exclusives. I haven’t seen any evidence of shrinking budgets yet, so I’ll just enjoy any games that get added to GPU as they come. It seems many people hate the deal (and GPU) because of a bunch of things that COULD happen.
@BrainHacker I agree completely. Write the checks and let the studios do their thing. Though I wish MS would force the issue a little more with some of those Rare IPs
@BrainHacker But MS didn’t get exclusives the RIGHT way. You have to build exclusives up from scratch, or if you’re going to buy exclusivity, you can only do TIMED exclusivity. /s
I have all the consoles, and I love all the exclusives on the consoles. For me, personally, I do love that when Xbox buys a studio that means I’ll get to play it as part of my sub.
@naruball The problem is, nobody will move to another ecosystem for this. We have examples of this. Both Orí and Cuphead were fantastic works of art. They were well reviewed and loved by everyone that played them, BUT they just didn’t move the needle.
I think there’s a chance that MS wouldn’t have even acquired Zenimax had Sony not picked up Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo as exclusives and attempted to get Starfield as well. Yes, they are timed exclusives, but I think you’re fooling yourself if you think they wouldn’t have paid for full exclusivity if they could afford it. I think MS just had enough. They got slaughtered last gen, saw Sony picking up these exclusives, and decided to do something about it. Shrewd, but probably a sound business move to ensure they are relevant for the foreseeable future. Building studios from the ground up requires to much time and talent that just isn’t available.
I’m kind of surprised people in here are so down on the show. I thought it was really solid. I love PS5 games, but I thought the Arkane game looked like it has a good vibe. Back 4 Blood, Forza, Plague Tale 2, Sea of Thieves, Outer Worlds 2, Stalker 2, and Flight Sim are all games I’m psyched to play on GPU. As far as GPU not making money, that will all just depend on how many subs it can get. If it gets enough subs, it will absolutely turn a profit.
ME3 ending still sucks. ME1 still feels dated, though it looks fantastic now. And ME2 is still my favorite game of all time. I wish ME3 had the multiplayer in it. That said, I loved playing through the trilogy again. I really hope ME4 fixes the ending for me. 9/10
@QBGaming12 Unfortunate that Jack’s character wasn’t playable in ME3, but I loved her sequence at the Academy. It was also cool to see Kahlee Sanders in the games at the Academy. She was the protagonist of the books, which were fantastic if you haven’t read them. Drew Karpyshyn wrote them (ME1 and ME2 head writer).
I rarely play MP, but ME3 really got its hooks in me. I think I had something like 1500 hours in that multiplayer. Really found a good crew to hang out with in that game, and for the most part, I haven’t talked to any of those guys in nearly a decade. I’d definitely try to get the gang back together if this became a thing.
@Casco Agreed. Xbox is my preferred multipurpose box, as well. I let my son keep the ps5 in his room, and I just commandeer it when something comes out that I want to play. Sony games (the one’s I love, anyway) typically have very manageable times, so I just borrow the system for a couple of weekends when a game I want to play comes out. I absolutely loved Ghost of Tsushima, and I’m really excited for Horizon. I like R&C, but it’s not the type of game I’d drop $70 on. I’m very curious what Sony has up there sleeve after GoW releases. I’m also interested in these 25 games that are in development. Are they all in active development, or are a number of them in the idea/pre-production stage of development? Definitely an exciting gen for both sides.
Depends. If it gets enough subs, it is absolutely sustainable. It isn’t sustainable at 20 million subs paying less than full price. If MS can get 70 million people paying $15, that’s 12.6 billion a year in just subs. That’s definitely sustainable.
@Salt_AU I don’t believe MS’s goal is to sell 20 million copies. I believe their goal is to hit 50 million+ Game Pass subs. Every time they put quality titles on the service, they’ll inch closer to that goal.

Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Is a Gorgeous Reimagining, Gets a Worldwide Release
I’ll pick it up if it has the giant foldout map and weapon list like the original release
Re: Poll: Who's Your Favourite Mass Effect Legendary Edition Squadmate?
@QBGaming12 Unfortunate that Jack’s character wasn’t playable in ME3, but I loved her sequence at the Academy. It was also cool to see Kahlee Sanders in the games at the Academy. She was the protagonist of the books, which were fantastic if you haven’t read them. Drew Karpyshyn wrote them (ME1 and ME2 head writer).
Re: BioWare Would 'Never Say No' to Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Making a Return
I rarely play MP, but ME3 really got its hooks in me. I think I had something like 1500 hours in that multiplayer. Really found a good crew to hang out with in that game, and for the most part, I haven’t talked to any of those guys in nearly a decade. I’d definitely try to get the gang back together if this became a thing.
Re: Don't Hold Your Breath for Bethesda's Starfield on PS5, PS4
Re: Don't Hold Your Breath for Bethesda's Starfield on PS5, PS4
@Salt_AU “GP is not sustainable”
Depends. If it gets enough subs, it is absolutely sustainable. It isn’t sustainable at 20 million subs paying less than full price. If MS can get 70 million people paying $15, that’s 12.6 billion a year in just subs. That’s definitely sustainable.
Re: Don't Hold Your Breath for Bethesda's Starfield on PS5, PS4
@Salt_AU I don’t believe MS’s goal is to sell 20 million copies. I believe their goal is to hit 50 million+ Game Pass subs. Every time they put quality titles on the service, they’ll inch closer to that goal.
