Quick confirmation that Deathloop’s timed PlayStation 5 console exclusivity will run until “at least” 14th September, 2022. The disclaimer was included at the end of the latest trailer, confirming that the Arkane Studios first-person shooter will release elsewhere thereafter. Considering that Microsoft now owns the developer, expect this to be included as part of Xbox Game Pass.
The studio showcased just under 10 minutes of gameplay footage this week, showcasing the release’s intricate level design, superpowers, and unique Groundhog Day-esque systems. Unfortunately, it’ll be the last game from the Dishonored developer to release on a Sony system, which is a real bummer a PlayStation persuasion.

Sooo exactly as expected?
Super duper extended directors cut version will release on other systems 15th Sep 2022
I have tried to get excited for it but it just does nothing for me watching the trailers. To be fair I didn't care for Dishonored either outside of thinking it had a cool setting and look.
Was excited for this when it was announced. Now? I couldn't care any less. Game was announced way to early.
Loved the soundtrack in the state of play demo.
Deathloop look meh to me so Xbox can have this one.
Hope sony didn't spend much for this deal. It's perfect for game pass: dabble a little, delete and never think of it again.
Now waiting for Ghostwire Tokyo info. 😬
Money well spent?
Also, I'm throwing my hat in early that Pushsquare give it a 7/10
I am not as interested for this. I think that I'll wait a year for it to be on Game Pass.
Not interested in Deathloop but I hope it turns out to be a decent experience for people.
Better games such as tales of Arise are launching in September so this can wait.
Also it feels like arkane made the deal with Sony knowing full well the Microsoft acquisition was on full swing, basically they used Sony as a last attempt to get money from them
Ghostwire tokyo is way more interesting than this, sony should make that game 1 year exclusive instead rather than deathloop.
Im still really surprised by the apathy towards deathloop. Its got a great soundtrack, atmosphere and unique style from all the trailers i've seen. But the general sense of 'meh' seems to be replicated everywhere online.
Its one i will definitely get down the road, but September is already very packed so dont think i can justify this on top
@wiiware i strongly suspect the same terms apply to ghostwire
We already know. What's the point of the article? To mention Game Pass again?
@wiiware agreed
@Rob_230 basically people are sick of the marketing. The issue is that it was meant to be a launch game thats been delayed almost a year due to the pandemic etc. So that means the advertising has been nonstop since it was announced. Its like Nicklebacks Rockstar. When it came out it was a great song. When every radio station played it every 10 minutes not so much lol
Deathloop looks like it borrows too much from dishonored ngl
Timed exclusives are dumb for Sony and Microsoft. I am always willing to wait a year. If it was current console generation exclusive, that would be a better deal for Sony
Incoming “Ha I kNeW iT, i’M nOt PaYiNg FuLl PrIcE, i’Ll WaIt FoR gAmE pAsS” people
It is such a deliberately disingenuous statement by PlayStation to say 'until at least' because no one with any knowledge of the situation would for one instant believe that Microsoft would extend the timed exclusivity. Exclusivity ends on the 14th of September 2022, and then the game will be coming to GamePass on the Xbox and PC (their) Day One, with that day most likely being the day after the exclusivity expires, i.e. September the 15th 2022. So if PlayStation thinks they are fooling anyone into believing that exclusivity will extend beyond the 14th of September 2022, they seriously need to think again...
@mrtennis1990 @Rob_230 Ghostwire tokyo setting (modern japan with ghost and magic attack) is way more interesting than this I think, ghostwire setting is so colourfull
Wonder how much these one year exclusive deals cost.
Was probably worth it had it released on launch day, but not now more games are out.
Just realized sony paid a microsoft subsidiary for timed exclusivity, seems funny.
@TeapotBuddha it was the best example of being overplayed i could think of lol
@Dezzy70 would be really interesting to find out data like that and the risk/profit ratio.
@Fiendish-Beaver I think the reason they can get away with saying “at least until September” is because even if the game is unshackled at that point, it’s still always possible the Xbox port might not be ready by then. If it’s a simple port that is unlikely, but if we talking more of a “directors cut” port, then it could take longer.
Plus, Microsoft might simply want to time the release to fill some other gap in their 2022 release calendar. Maybe they end up feeling it’s best to release ir in October or December.
@UltimateOtaku91 "Also it feels like arkane made the deal with Sony knowing full well the Microsoft acquisition was on full swing, basically they used Sony as a last attempt to get money from them"
I'm sure. Deals like this don't just materialize out of the blue.
With that said, the timed exclusivity contract is being honored, so Sony is still benefitting from having exclusive access to the game for a year before the competition. So I'm not sure how valid this framing of them "using" Sony is. Sony is getting EXACTLY what they paid for.
I'll just wait for it on GamePass. Just like I am waiting for MH: Rise on Steam.
I do not understand time exclusives in general. Especially when you know the other hardware options from day 1.
@Tharsman the release calendar by MS is one huge gap by itself
@Agramonte the reason is money.
@Reeneman Sure, for the publisher - but "money" works both ways when it comes to hardware
If paid $499 for an XSX and I know the games is not really a PS5 exclusive. Not really spending more money on hardware to play it early. Or move the needle if an undecided new purchase.
I understand a full exclusive. Tons of people (including me) do not want to spend years "port begging" (with no guarantee of getting it) to play a game they excited about. But this you can pencil in today.
@UltimateOtaku91 I really doubt that. You’re honestly sound bitter and act like the games quality will plummet now. It’s annoying the Bestheda buyout, yes, but you’re just being unreasonable at this point.
@Danloaded lol poor deathloop, being likened to Nickleback 🤣
I accept that the game has been shown at 3 events now, but i haven't felt it was toooo over the tip. To be honest, i wasn't even aware of the core mechanic until last week's SOP. I just feels like its been ages since we had a good arcadey shooter, and there are shades of timesplitters here for me.
The original trailer was really cool. But after that my interest has dropped off massively. It’s got critically acclaimed, retail bomb written all over it.
@wiiware There's nothing to say that Ghostwire: Tokyo isn't a one year timed exclusive too. Once they remember the game is in development, maybe it will get announced too.
@Rob_230 Even more strange is people were really psyched for the game back when it was first announced. It makes me wonder if people are being bitter because of the Bethesda buyout. It wouldn't shock me at all. Obviously I could be wrong, but I have a feeling I'm not. At least to an extent.
I've been looking forward to this game for a while. I may not get it right away either because of other games coming out around it, but it's still something I will not miss out on entirely. I also have no problem playing it on my PS5 even though I have a Series X as well. Tales of Aries will likely take up September for me though.
@Splat Dishonored is a good game. I haven't had a chance to see the footage of this game yet
@Rob_230 it was the Barret like voice over that put me off. Can't be listening to that over dramatic voice acting all of the way through it. Now if it was the sultry tones of Denzel or Morgan Freeman, then we'd be talking.
I thought this was known for a while. Game looks good but I’ll wait until next year and get it on SX/Gamepass.
Biggest waste of money in the game industry. Who can't wait a year for "Deathloop" 😂
@Jacko11
I'm one of those people. You seem to be one of those who say M$ cAn HaVe THi$ oNe, iT lOOk$ laaaamEE.. It's nice to play on both platforms and not spend more money than you need to. Games are already expensive.
@gollumb82 where on earth have you got it that i’m that type of person 😂😂 complete fiction you’ve created right there
@UltimateOtaku91 yeah poor Sony paying for a year timed exclusivity. Arkane totally used them! Wow
This is looking better and better. The visuals looked more polished...and clearly Arkanes level design is still top tier. Whether people will be burnt out on these 'rogue-lites' I don't know...but the gun play looks tight. Think what I was really liking was the music though - a great fit. And kinda gave vibes of Apeout on the switch...ramping up as the action heated up.
Would have liked to see how the online aspect works abit more though...the handling of invading others games, or being invaded, is going to either make or break this I reckon
@UltimateOtaku91 It looks like a quick cash grab because the game looks like a Dishonered 2 Mod or something that just added some new elements also taking not much of advantage of new hardware.
Ha Sony fanboys pretending that they are not into Deathloop anymore because Microsoft own Arkane! If you like the look at it buy it, who knows when the next AAA Sony exclusive will release this year!
@Reeneman that joke is as obsolete as Ghost of Tsushima. Time to pay $10 bucks to upgrade your console war jokes.
@Fiendish-Beaver I'd think the terminology is more based on assuming it won't get another delay
Hmmm...one year of exclusivity comes out to $5/month...to own forever.
@Tharsman
Yes, Ghost is totally obsolete :roll eyes: Nice job in discrediting yourself.
@Eldritch777
You're funny. Talking about Sony's next exclusive while still waiting on Microsoft's first. That made me laugh!
@lacerz I have a PS5 and Xbox. Sony exclusives have been great so far, but no release dates for some of the big hitters. Microsoft I reckon will catch up this generation. Anyway it's a win for me either way!
@Eldritch777
I’ve got both as well, and a Switch. I hope MS catch up, the best scenario for consumers is all three platform holders having 33% of the market each. Not everyone might agree if they’re overly emotional about a plastic box of electronics sold by a Multinational corporation that just wants their money, but it’s true.
@wiiware Ghostwire Tokyo is also exclusive for one year.
@Tharsman I don't think it's possible, November is Starfield, June/July Redfall, Forza Motorsport in September/October and if Ghostwire Tokyo isn't delayed it will also be released in 2022 for Xbox, Microsoft there are many games for the second half of 2022.
Full exlusivity or nothing. Timed exclusive is weird (I know why but still weird to me)
@lacerz 5 per month to own forever? Are you suggesting that it won't be available for purchase once it hits Xbox? This seems to be the narrative Sony fanboys spin...just cause a games available on gamepass doesn't mean the option to own it isn't there
@UltimateOtaku91 how do you know?
I'm not surprised at all, sucks for Xbox/PC gamers but it is what it is.
Game pass is a new service that only time can tell wether it'd be successful or not. But not sure why Pushsquare staff try to mention it in many of their articles.
I think if we’re being real, this comment section wouldn’t be so negative about Deathloop if it was a full Sony exclusive / not a MS studio game. I am curious with how it does with casual audiences, though. I assume it will do similarly to Dishonored (not great).
Big Jim legacy will be timed exclusive when he retires.
