Shame this isn't multiplayer, or i might of given it a shot. Same reason I didn't play subnautica.
There's only a few survival games, at least top end graphical ones worth the time of day and that's Ark and Conan probably.... At least on PS4 I'm talking about.
@JoeBlogs I get that it's hard times right now, and it's not easy writing up current newsworthy articles.
I think without heating this debate up unnecessarily, some people are just voicing their frustrations about unnewsworthy PS5 articles.
I can only say what I think personally, and that would be that I think a lot of people would prefer articles based on historical gaming, or interesting factoids outlaying collated data, or interactive polls. I know Push Square are doing some of this already, which is great, because it's gets people talking.
These articles, however, i feel end up causing frustration. That's my honest opinion.
Also, I don't think anyone has been rude here, or inpolite. Brutally honest maybe.
If people have an opinion, it should be ok to voice it. You don't have to agree with it, but it's also nice to see that other people are in agreeance with your perspective.
Outright telling people not to click on articles on a news site is a bit absurd in my opinion. After all, it's what we're here for, news....
@Nickolaidas I agree with you. I think it's fine to post mock ups and such, but there is a point where it becomes tiresome, also it's more likely to rile people up at this point, as anticipation hits fever pitch.
Would be in everyones best interest to post articles with meaningful PS5 related news at this point rather than than further aggravate people with mock ups and rumours.
@ShogunRok Fair enough. I'm not familiar with VGC, was more interested in the dubious statement of it being someone "with knowledge".
I get that whomever that might be, doesn't want their name appearing all over the news, but it also doesn't really add any degree of noteworthy credance.
I suppose though if VGC are a gaming news source that rarely is wrong when it comes to these sort of articles, then I can get behind that.
A solid 9/10 from me. Spent around 70 hours, and did 2 full playthroughs, one on normal and then again on hard, and cleaned up for the platinum.
Was an excellent experience. Still a lot of hate surrounding the game, people saying we're shills, and whatnot because we're supporting square enix creating this in an episodic manner.
I can't grasp that opinion at all, and never will. It's a shame that they feel betrayed, because, at the bottom of it, this game really is good, and the reviews prove it. The one concern I have is how long Square are going to take to complete the full game. I don't want to be applying for my old age pensioner card for the last episode.
@ssppiikkeeyy Your comment made me chuckle. People should delete their accounts because they don't agree with the opinion that the trailer was a spoiler?
Part of the reason so many people love this site is the fact that it doesn't want to censor peoples opinions, which is how it should be.
Your perspective, and comments remind me of news based gaming sites such as Kotaku, who only want people who agree with them posting.
Echo chambers are rarely good news sites, mainly because they won't ever take points on board from their community. The fact that there are people who disagree means that not everyone believes it was a spoiler, therefore, there is room for discourse.
95% of these opinions are based off of perspective, and funnily enough the world is a big place, and that means a lot of differing perspective. It's better to embrace those differences, and see other perspectives (you don't have to agree with them), than to lock yourself into your own opinion and never broaden it. Sometimes a well reasoned point can lead you to (at the very least) come to some sort of understanding for others views, in turn giving your a much more well rounded viewpoint.
@ShogunRok Bit of a stretch. The original article states "One person with knowledge of Sony’s plans".
We don't know who this person is, how knowledgeable they are, or whether they're reputable or even clued up on any level of truth involving this.
For the sake of argument, this person could of been anyone, or no one, dependant on whether this journalist had any integrity or not.
My point is, a rumour isn't worth the paper its written on, or you could just make up news whenever someone felt like it. Names, cited sources and facts are what I really deem as news-worthy, not conjecture, rumours and hearsay.
I do love this site, because it's well managed, and people have an open forum to speak their minds, in turn giving me this opportunity to say what I really think, in a constructive manner. I can also appreciate that it's slow moving news right now. But I'd still much prefer a poll, or an opinion based article regarding some games, than more conjecture based rumour articles that ultimately rarely amount to anything of value. Just my 2 cents.
@ShogunRok I actually agree with Ichigo. Your article is taking spoilers to that next level, with maybe the one instance of Barrett dying being the only exception (albeit, the fact that it had no context doesn't really make it a spoiler).
The remaining complaints were moot as the original game had all of them in it, so I can't see how these can be prescribed as "spoilers", when they are in fact elements of the original game.
People who play music on their speakers while they're using microphones in a public lobby need a good slap.
If you want to use voice chat, no one wants, or needs to listen to your music. It's simple, use headphones if you want to voice chat. It's really not that difficult to understand.
If you're doing it intentionally to either (a) be a jerk or (b) you think it's cool, we can upgrade that slap to a kick in the ass.
Here it just collects data on total space and space used, nothing on what type of hard drive is being utilized, so your viewpoint is speculative, not factual, so that's erroneous.
Secondly, steam data collection is optional so this is only going to collect data from people who want their specs being collated. I'll bet a lot of players can't be bothered when they're using a crap PC, I know a few myself who game on out of the box laptops.
Thirdly, your comment about network handshakes is correct, however you're wrong about the loading. No multiplayer game starts in an unrendered state, sure it might not load all instances but it still has preload. But I still agree this is a network and load time based issue collectively.
@TooBarFoo Yes, but not everyone playing PC multiplayer games has an SSD. Most use a bog standard drive with their cheap laptop they bought at <insert generic PC store here>.
PS5 will be different in that every console will have an SSD, therefore the collective loadtime will always be better than any other platforms loading experience, because no one will have to wait.
@TooBarFoo The biggest difference between your experience of SSD's on a PC and a united console under one roof is a monumental difference.
The main one being multiplayer. Multiplayer, despite what many may say is probably the most active part of gaming in todays scene. Now on PC, due to it not having any sort of prerequisites this means that anyone with any PC can play multiplayer. Which means anyone loading a stage has to wait for the absolute slowest PC to load the game up.
PS5 will be the first gaming experience that will allow multiplayer games to all have exceptional load times because everyone on it (in theory, providing no one mods their consoles) will have an SSD. This will results in literally thousands of hours saved of time in between multiplayer games.
I counted how long it took to load a multiplayer game of siege on my PS4 pro, with an SSD installed, and it was atrocious, in some cases well over a minute. This would be at least chopped in half, and probably chopped in half again. Just think of all the extra time gamers will pick up from that. It might not be "exciting" in the traditional sense, but damn is it going to revolutionize the way people experience multiplayer gaming.
@JoeBlogs I suppose I overlooked the word "excited", and auto translated it to "order of importance".
Backwards compatibility doesn't so much excite me as feel as an absolute necessity to bridging gaps moving forward as we start to move from console to console.
I just hope this is something that is never removed. I think I would feel robbed if digital purchases ever get wiped from existence.
Edit: I've had an SSD pretty much for the entire lifecycle of the PS4, as soon as I was aware it was removeable, and only required some minor files being added to a flash drive to achieve. It's definitely an improvement when I play the gam by myself, but because I often play multiplayer games, those benefits are lost on a lot of major multiplayer games. Will be amazing when everyone is in the same boat. Unless, people start buying the rubbish standard harddrive to increase space, and we regress back to slow multiplayer games because one person in the party is using a standard hard drive.
Eh.... I'm not liking the multi coloured look, makes it looks like a cheap third party controller.
Also, not a fan of the L1 and R1 buttons, they look far too chunky. We'll have to wait and see though. It's one thing to see a picture, another to hold it in your hands.
@ShogunRok Hmm interesting, I noticed it was much better with my SSD. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.
I think i spent most of my visual acuity looking at the beautiful character models, only taking the time to really take in the most nostalgic locales such as the Mako Reactors or Aeriths House etc.
@Senpai Is it a real challenge? I like difficulty, but only if it's not completely insane. I finished and platinumed Sekiro, so as long as it's not more insane than that, i'm good? Also, is there a grinding opportunity somewhere near the end where you can level up stuff in preparation for the hard playthrough? I'm assuming this is necessary?
Im surprised only 11% care about backwards compatibility. I know it's old technology, but I suppose for some casual players, their PS4 library isn't that extensive. For me, it's literally thousands of pounds/dollars worth of products that I've purchased over the years, in the same manner as steam, I don't want to have to move between consoles (and infrastructure) when wanting to play my old library.
So despite of course wanting the PS5 to be a leap into more modern technology, I would still rate the abillity to access my vast library of PS4 games and still interact and play with friends who will not purchase the PS5 on launch.
@Senpai Ahh i'm about to complete the pedometer materia! Nice Ok cool. I'm still not quite at Shinra HQ yet, just doing the side quests beforehand. Think i'm probably a few hours away at least from the ending yet.
@Senpai Thanks for the tips Can you double up on materia when you replay chapters? And does this include meeting characters for a second, 3rd time etc?
Games these days, whilst excellent in some departments, lack a lot of charm that older games had.
Old games had to rely on storytelling, and imagination, something children have oodles of, and growing up with my imagination soaring playing games on systems such as the Sega Master System, Megadrive, NES, SNES and onwards was a great memory. Sure, now looking back on some of these titles, they didn't stand up, but at the time, they were amazing, as my childlike brain turned elements of these basic games into vibrant characters in my head, with a thrilling storyline, I was pulled in.
Sure today, we have the graphics, we have the storytelling, but games are rife with adverts, product placements, microtransactions and doesn't leave a whole lot up to the imagination. This is great for adults, but I think children get a worse deal.
@Matroska I think not so much, as you carry your materia over. And if you have the right synergies with your healer you can keep everyone up with ease. For example, Curaga (Heal) + That expanse materia that jumps to all characters, magnify was it? (Basically All). Simplifies the fight massively. If the enemy is a lot, lot harder, can just plan for resistances better, and ensure everyone has the best elemental weapon setups. Replay chapters to get materia, and then just farm maxing them out. I don't imagine it's going to be an easy task, more of a chapter, by chapter completion.
I'm more concerned about the not being able to rest and restore your mp. Gonna have to farm my ass off on gil then just buy like a million ethers.
@Stocksy The Devs were "Wanted posters" in the game. We actually had a wardrobe in the HR office that had been made up for the day where we got to choose our Mafia-esque clothing, and then we got portrait images done that were then coded into the game for each wanted poster.
For the record I'm also in the credits for Bioshock (The original), The Darkness, Civ IV and a variety of other games. I think Axel and Pixel was one I worked on. That game annoyed the hell out of me. haha.
@Enigk Haha, this made me laugh out loud. So true though. Either they're anti-authoritarian or the flip side, they're tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists, who think the establishment is out to get them. Or thirdly, they're just very stupid people. Let's not forget that demographic, because this percentage is still substantial.
Good on 'em. Some people are unfortunately too stupid to actually heed this information. So whilst I respect what codemasters are doing, I feel they're unfortunately trying to convince people that almost probably are the least likely group of people who need to be notified.
Some people can't be either convinced of the severity of their actions, or are too stupid to even comprehend it. And I don't think any amount of messaging or hand waving is going to change it regrettably.
To be fair, CDPR should of done the same with Cyberpunk 2077.
It's likely that will be further delayed, and even if it's not it was originally purchased with it's release date in mind to be far ahead of its current forecast. Companies shouldn't drag their heels on preorders, it's a bit of a crap experience for their fans.
Kudos to Naughty Dog for making a quick sharp response to refunding on this till the point a definitive date is set.
But I do think they missed some excellent opportunities along the way throughout the game where I feel they either deviated a bit too far away from the original, or didn't expand on it enough.
However, having said that, I do feel they more than made up for that with other aspects of extension (or rather, expansion) on parts of the original that weren't explained, such as character leaving the party in the original, and their side of the story playing out, instead of it being left to the players imagination.
@ShogunRok Regular hard drive? Or SSD? Not that it matters as most people use standard config, but I found the problem was a lot less with my 2TB SSD. I'm sure it will get patched before release, or shortly thereafter.
@ShogunRok FYI did you play on a regular PS4? Because I played it on the pro and didn't notice this issue as much as when I played it on my regular PS4.
The pop in was noticeably less on my pro, but then I have an SSD installed. POP in and graphic loading texture issues were rife on my regular standard PS4.
It's excellent in my opinion, they gave a lot of the main story arc it's due diligence, some of the side quests seemed a bit strange, and jarring.
Something specifically i noticed that bothers me greatly is the poor lip syncing and mouth animations, they are definitely sub par when you compare them against other big triple A releases.
Outside of that, it's been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and those people that are looking for that nostalgic vibe when playing it are definitely going to get what they were hoping for.
Anyone who thinks this is to do with health and safety aren't too bright. Whilst I don't blame naughty dog for their decision this is 100% to do with profits and finance than it is to do with logistics or personal health.
The game can be bought via digital, and for pretty much a large percentage of the population, if they want to play the game they would simply download it. Disc sales, would be cut off, and this would definitely put a dent in the finance, due to some people being indifferent about purchase if they can't get it on disc (for resale etc).
Don't be gullible though, this is a profit based decision.
I preordered 1st class edition here in Spain, and Square sent me a mail last week confirming it had been shipped, will be interested to see if it gets here before the 10th.
My question is this though. If we get it early, will trophies be disabled?
@ArcadeHeroes I hate the idea of this though. Not owning my own library of games.
I think this won't happen, because whilst Netflix is a service, movies are still consumed as a purchase through blu-ray. People like to collect and own their own movies.
People in general like to have something that is theirs, not something they rent. The subscription service for gaming will be a thing (it already is) I can't see it ever being the only thing. There will be an offshoot, but i think it will remain as it is, so long as there is a demand for trade, and for owning physical media.
Whilst this might of been acting, there is no doubt there are a few idiots out there that genuinely believe that Horizon Zero Dawn going to PC is blasphemy.
Literally, at this point, who cares, everyone who has wanted to play Horizon on PS4 has played it at this point, no harm in throwing a dog a bone after the meats been had....

Re: The Last of Us 2 Taken Off PlayStation Store Following Indefinite Delay
To be fair, CDPR should of done the same with Cyberpunk 2077.
It's likely that will be further delayed, and even if it's not it was originally purchased with it's release date in mind to be far ahead of its current forecast. Companies shouldn't drag their heels on preorders, it's a bit of a crap experience for their fans.
Kudos to Naughty Dog for making a quick sharp response to refunding on this till the point a definitive date is set.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake's Main Menu Screen Is a Thing of Beauty
Overall they nailed it on the nostalgia feels.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Has a Serious Texture Quality Issue on PS4 and PS4 Pro
Damn, i didn't notice it being that bad when i played.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake - The Long Awaited Reunion
@ShogunRok I noticed it on doors particularly where the issue was worse.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake - The Long Awaited Reunion
@ShogunRok Regular hard drive? Or SSD? Not that it matters as most people use standard config, but I found the problem was a lot less with my 2TB SSD. I'm sure it will get patched before release, or shortly thereafter.
Re: Mafia II: Definitive Edition Could Be Headed to PS4 After Korean Rating
I'm actually a collectable in this game. Was an amazing experience working for the 2K czech dev team in Brno for the two years I was there.
Spent ages sitting in with Matus Siroky when he was composing the main theme, still remember when he came up with the idea over lunch. Good times.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake - The Long Awaited Reunion
@ShogunRok FYI did you play on a regular PS4? Because I played it on the pro and didn't notice this issue as much as when I played it on my regular PS4.
The pop in was noticeably less on my pro, but then I have an SSD installed. POP in and graphic loading texture issues were rife on my regular standard PS4.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake - The Long Awaited Reunion
I'm about 3/4 of the way through.
Re: Resident Evil 3 Remake Leaves Some Fans Fuming Over Jill Valentine's Skirt
I don't think it matters, at all. But at the least, it's a sh*tty thing to advertise one thing, and provide another.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Delayed Again Due to Coronavirus Epidemic
@S1ayeR74 Someone speaking the truth here.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake PS4 Trophy List Could Be an Easy Platinum
I have the game, you can't play hard until second playthrough.
Re: Exclusive: PS5 to Receive Terafloppy Disks, Proprietary Hardware That Will Boost Teraflops Count
sounds like a cute name you'd give to a partner.
"Terafloppy"
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Ship 'Far Earlier' in Europe and Australia, Square Enix Confirms
@Rob_230 Thanks for your kind words Rob. Much appreciated. I hope you and your close friends and family are also keeping safe and well.
And yes, this will be a great distraction from the current doom and gloom going around!
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Ship 'Far Earlier' in Europe and Australia, Square Enix Confirms
I preordered 1st class edition here in Spain, and Square sent me a mail last week confirming it had been shipped, will be interested to see if it gets here before the 10th.
My question is this though. If we get it early, will trophies be disabled?
Re: Poll: Should Free PS4 Games Be Given Away to Those in Isolation?
I don't see a requirement at all to do so on their part.
If they feel obliged to , then that would be cool. But that's about where it begins and ends.
Re: Ex-Guerrilla Producer Rips Butthurt PlayStation Fans Over Horizon PC Port
@ArcadeHeroes I hate the idea of this though. Not owning my own library of games.
I think this won't happen, because whilst Netflix is a service, movies are still consumed as a purchase through blu-ray. People like to collect and own their own movies.
People in general like to have something that is theirs, not something they rent. The subscription service for gaming will be a thing (it already is) I can't see it ever being the only thing. There will be an offshoot, but i think it will remain as it is, so long as there is a demand for trade, and for owning physical media.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake's Butterfinger Promotion Sounds Like a Ballache
Lame promotion, only accessing a portion of the global population, and it's not even fully functional.
Re: Ex-Guerrilla Producer Rips Butthurt PlayStation Fans Over Horizon PC Port
Whilst this might of been acting, there is no doubt there are a few idiots out there that genuinely believe that Horizon Zero Dawn going to PC is blasphemy.
Literally, at this point, who cares, everyone who has wanted to play Horizon on PS4 has played it at this point, no harm in throwing a dog a bone after the meats been had....
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake's DLC Summons Detailed in New Gameplay
@MJF And yet you still feel like you had to have the last word.
@ShogunRok Fair point on the insulting part, but discourse can be had. Either way, let's put this one to bed.
