The Last of Us: Part II has been removed from the PlayStation Store after its indefinite delay pushed the title beyond the previously announced release date of 29th May 2020. This means that PSN users can no longer digitally pre-order the standard edition or the more expensive Digital Deluxe Edition Sony had to offer.
If you had already committed cold, hard cash to a digital version of Naughty Dog's next experience then you should be receiving a full refund before too long, as history would dictate. It will probably be issued back to you as PSN credit. This is also a very common practice for the Japanese giant. Games only typically become available for pre-order when they have a solid release date, and in the past, have been removed from the storefront after delays. Marvel's Avengers is a perfect example of that. However, you can rest assured that when The Last of Us: Part II gets a new launch date, the game will be added back to the PlayStation Store.
Had you pre-ordered The Last of Us: Part II digitally? Let us know in the comments below.

I pre-ordered TLOU2 as soon as it was available on the PS Store! It still shows in my library as being pre-ordered but when I click on it there is no description or that! Hopefully I get a refund for it soon
To be fair, CDPR should of done the same with Cyberpunk 2077.
It's likely that will be further delayed, and even if it's not it was originally purchased with it's release date in mind to be far ahead of its current forecast. Companies shouldn't drag their heels on preorders, it's a bit of a crap experience for their fans.
Kudos to Naughty Dog for making a quick sharp response to refunding on this till the point a definitive date is set.
My order on Gamestop looks good. Hopefully Gamestop is still a thing by the time the game comes out.
Still waiting on them to send me RE3.
Edit: And I just lost all of my GameStop pre-orders because I was issued a new debit card last week.
lol. Back to Amazon I go for all future orders I guess. So much for trying to support a local store.
good riddance!
My Amazon pre-order looks like this now - though they don't charge till they send it so cancelling it wouldn't be useful in this case.
It's a bit odd how SE could get FFVIIR to people around 1-2 weeks before the launch date, Animal Crossing, Doom Eternal and other major releases were fine - and sold like toilet paper - yet ND have to delay their game indefinitely. Feels like there's more problems here than just coronavirus.
@Matroska Because those games launched in March, meaning they finished and went gold sometime in February. TLOU2 was scheduled for May 29; so they were probably still finishing things up. And who knows what the world looks like in 6-7 weeks from now. Can they ensure everyone get their copies on time if they went through with it? Probably not. It's a big game and Sony wants to make it a big launch.
@Matroska Normally you’d expect to get a game on release day if you pre-ordered it. Maybe a day or two early if you were lucky.
Gradually delivering the game over a two week period before launch is a sign of logistical problems.
@Octane It's true TLoU2 was set to release a bit later, but games are usually finished well in advance. That's why people were getting FFVIIR so early despite it still not being out yet. TLoU2 should've been in stores and Amazon warehouses within the next 3 weeks or so - and remember it's already been delayed at least once.
@Ryall True but they still got it out - plus lots of games leak a lot earlier. There's a Switch game that people were getting months before release, and even Pokemon S&S and SSBU were being played about a week before launch.
Anyway, just seems odd that ND had about 8 weeks from now to get the game to stores, almost 1/6 of a year, and now it's delayed so badly they don't even have a date. That's not just logistical problems.
@Matroska That's not true. Games usually go gold a month before launch. So late April for TLOU2. Then they have print the game, and ship it. It wouldn't be in a store until 5 or 6 weeks from now.
FF7R is an exception, not the norm.
@Matroska Not having a new release date doesn't mean it's a problem with game development. It means the coronavirus is unpredictable, and nobody knows when everything will go back to relatively normal.
And it's not just about getting the games to stores. This is arguably the biggest PS4 game for Sony. So I'm certain they were having launch parties, press events and coverage and whatnot. None of that is possible at the moment.
@Octane But FFVIIR isn't an exception as most games still have the same release date. If every game now had a TBC release, I'd agreed with you. ND said something like the game is as good as done and the reason for the delay is so they can release it everywhere at the same time. That doesn't add up since they have around 8 weeks to get it distributed to various regions if the game really is as good as finished. They could distribute it by hot air balloon and still have time.
From Push Square:
The game's "there" and "at the one yard line" yet they remove it from PSN entirely? Eh? 🤔
The game is also about the effects of a pandemic and would be quite insensitive to release at this time. I don't think division 2 would get a release if it was to be released around this time.
@Matroska oh come on. You must be [removed] if you can't see why it's being delayed. There's no conspiracy theory except in your mind. This is the big one for Sony and many countries are on shut down. People are not allowed to go out to buy games, stores are not allowed to open to sell games. That's a huge section of the market. Not everyone buys digital or from Amazon. Japan is about to declare a state of emergency lasting 6 months if needed, other countries will follow or are already there. Why would Sony want a small fanfare and possible backlash when they can wait for things to settle and go for the big bang. You and others have been bashing Sony for every decision they've made throughout this virus outbreak and in the end there's only one side that's continually looking stupid and it's not Sony. Anyway, I won't keep you any longer as I imagine you're off out to burn down some 5G masts, as I'm sure you're the type to believe the kind of guff that's doing the rounds about them as well.
@Matroska Meaning they still have some work to do. And probably would've finished it in two or three weeks. It's that simple.
To be on the store it has to have a release date so if it has non I can’t see how it can be on. I was offered a refund after the first delay but haven’t been offered one for this. It’s paid for in my library as coming soon and I can wait
Maybe it's been delayed to align with the release of the PS5 as it's possible developers of PS5 games are running behind schedule due to the Corona virus.
I don't get it. We were supposed to have the game already at this point before it had been pushed to May. Very likely 99.9% of the work was done and right now, the game should have pretty much been going gold. So how can it be pushed back indefinitely unless there was problems even WITHOUT covid-19.
Or was it the fact it has a pandemic in the game? It couldn't be issues with releasing the game. People are moaning about FFVII Remake's release but its a tiny percentage. I still haven't received my 1st Class Soldier Edition of FFVII Remake and I doubt I would have without a global pandemic lol.
