@Redefaul where has this number come from? I have been digital since I bought a PS5, and buy games when on sale. I'm sure many people do the same.

@JustBusiness I'm not sure. I think casuals will buy what they need to play the latest COD, FIFA, etc. If that eventually becomes an expensive PS6, they will buy it on credit, like their shiny new iPhones.

@Rob_230 agreed. I've said before, but as an older chap, I sold my master system and got a mega drive as there was a big graphical upgrade, and games were never cross platform.
these days, with such marginal gains, so many great games available, often for the price of a pint, there just isn't a strong reason for many people to upgrade.

I'm all digital and the cost isn't a factor. What would stop me buying it is a lack of PS6 exclusive games. I grew up with the Spectrum, graphics on the PS5 still regularly drop my jaw. So I'll only buy it when then are must have games that aren't cross-platform.

@RamboMike I don't know that people are celebrating this, I'm certainly not... but wow, you really do seem quite upset by this - aren't PC games digital only? If you have a PS because you like PS exclusive games, aren't you shooting yourself in the foot here somewhat? regardless, do what makes you happy man...

15,000 to 18,000 games are released on steam a year. quality not relevant to this discussion.
Games get delisted, sure, but you can still download them if you have previously purchased them.
movies, again, not relevant to gaming.

I was saying that it's incredibly rare that a single player offline game gets completely removed from your digital library. I get annoyed by people just parroting 'you own nothing' and 'your games will get taken away at no notice' it's so rare this ever actually happens.

not looking for a fight here, my music and film collections are all physical, but I just don't see the real evidence for offline single player games being removed from peoples libraries, and if it does happen, it's 1 in 10,000 levels.

it was always coming. been this way on steam / PC for years.

no doubt loads of people in the comments insisting we will own nothing, and games will be taken away from us, despite this only happening a handful of times (like, 4, or 5) on non-online games in years on steam (and 10's of thousands of games coming out each year).

I don't like the lack of a physical option for those who want it. but it was always coming. hoping that consumer rights are protected, and call me naive but I think things are moving in the right direction in that area...

there will be much outrage on reddit and this site, as we are not the average consumer, who largely won't care either way.

digital works better with music, for sure. I have god knows how many CDs and vinyl, but also my whole library digitally, on multiple backups, hard drives, etc. Those are mp3 files and nobody could ever take those from me. I have a large movie library as DVD/4K physical, but for whatever reason, my PS and Switch libraries are all digital.

don't be so dramatic. the industry isn't 'cooked'. people will still buy these devices, regardless of the price. gaming been too cheap for too long, a reset is needed.

equally, as somebody who has gamed since the monochrome days of the spectrum, I would not mind if games stayed at this spec forever. the marginal returns in performance for the corresponding price increases, longer developer times, I just don't think they're worth it.

as a sega master system owner looking as mega drive games, a mega drive owner looking at n64 games, etc, those new games on the latest systems looked incredible. a real leap forward. those days are long gone. we're chasing the dragon here.

$1,000 is £750 in real money. Seems reasonable to me.

a reset may just be games consoles becoming things Joe Public buys over 12 months interest free credit, instead of an impulse buy.

whenever the UK government made booze or fatty foods more expensive 'for our health', that extra tax made zero difference. we just spent less on other things.

@rusty82 thing is, the vast majority of gamers don't read reddit, or this site. They buy COD and FIFA, etc. they would never build a PC.

long gone are the days when there were visible generational improvements in games. It's diminishing returns. maybe the whole system needs to change... do we really need to have a new machine for such a price increase for such a minimal performance increase

Everything is nuts though, I picked up a Sandisk official PS5 2 TB SSD in January of 2025 for £165. That same SSD from Sandisk now costs £654.

So much as I hate these price increases, I can totally understand why they are happening!!!

@AI-Generation I genuinely see the 3 trillion daddy as a negative, not a positive, here... if MS wanted to 'win', they could leverage their financial position, but shareholders want dividends, and the ABK purchase really buggered them

@get2sammyb yeah, it's not like Nintendo where new consoles generation often means new controllers, etc. I am hoping my PS5 lasts a good few years into the PS6 generation...

As somebody that grew up with games, since the mid 80's, there just aren't big leaps from generation to generation, and games are cross generation for years, so there is zero impetus to jump ship to the new shiny console...

Also, as a financially secure gaming fan, who also loves music and plays bass guitar and is in bands, etc, the cost of a new bass guitar, valve amp, cab, some pedals, etc, is so so sooooo much more than £1k, so personally I'd pay anything for a console, as it represents good value for me.

Music used to have value, when I was a kid you'd pay £12 for an album on CD and be happy. Now, music seems to have no value. Kids think music should be free...

Video games are worth a heck of a lot more than we pay for them, compared to other entertainment products, etc. I don't want to pay £100 plus for a AAA game, but really, games should cost that much, based on what they cost to make, inflation, etc. But people don't attribute that level of value to them.

The current PS5 digital is £520 / $600... forget the Pro, I can't see how the PS6 is going to be as expensive as the Steam machine...

Picked it up on PS5. Did everything the internet suggested RE game modes, turning off autosaves, etc. Just had a hard crash, less than an hour in, not even got to Jemison, and lost 30 minutes of play. FFS

restored, but half the recently played games have their titles written in Chinese characters!

loved this game. don't really chase trophies, but once I finished the game there were only a handful left, so I went for it.

I've now decided that if I love a game, and once beating the story, there isn't a huge grind for the platinum, i'll go for it.

there seem to be more games than ever released, but over the years people have built up larger and larger libraries / backlogs. Plus there aren't generational leaps in visuals any more, so I imagine lots of people are just buying older games on sale, and playing through their backlog, waiting for the next huge game?

Why would I buy any of those listed games, when I have far better reviewed games from the last 7 or 8 years still to play?

No single game could ever convince me to shell out what a series X costs these days. when I got a PS5, my first PS since the PS2, it was because there were 20 to 30 games from PS4 and PS5 I could only play on that console (no interest in PC).

So no, I enjoyed Gears 1-3 back in the day, but it would take 10 to 15 VERY GOOD exclusive games to make me buy another console.

crazy idea, but how about you stop reporting on the leaks, and then moaning that the leaks spoiled the surprise? I don't trawl the net for rumours, the GOW reveal was spoilt by this website, not by the actual leaker.

Anybody know what engine they are using for W1 remake? I recall CDPR saying W1 remake would come out after W4 as it would use assets from W4

Definitely a top 3 game of my 40 years gaming, so very excited for this. The only saves I have on my PS5 are for the end of my main play through, so would love to know 3 or 4 months in advance what the recommended level is for the expansion, and where it best sits in a play through, so I can be ready for it!!

Do you need to do this to game chat in private with friends?

I really enjoyed MW2019 campaign. interested in this, actually using real, not fictional, countries is a good choice.

most interested I've been in a COD in 4 or 5 years, only buy these for the campaign.

@somnambulance funnily enough, I thought of Starfield. both are games that have their fans, and some very fervent fans too. But also they have their flaws, and their detractors. Both feel like the classic 7/10 for me... some will love, some will bounce off, hard.

I loved Starfield, despite its many flaws. So will probably try this eventually.
