The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is seemingly suffering from notable technical and performance issues on PS5 Pro — but only for some players.

I reviewed the remaster — which is available through a free update for existing owners — right here on Push Square earlier this week. And outside of a hitching issue that occurs specifically when the game is autosaving (which was also present in 2022's Complete Edition), the release ran perfectly.

No noticeable frame rate drops, no screen tearing, nothing. I went on to praise the title's flawless performance in said review.

But to my surprise, not everyone has been so lucky. User comments on the review alerted me to potential problems, and so I've scoured the likes of Reddit and social media platforms in search of answers.

From what I've seen, players are having vasty different experiences. Some, like myself, are reporting perfect performance across both of the graphical modes on PS5 (ray tracing at 60 frames-per-second, and performance at around 90).

Others, as mentioned, are complaining of dropped frames, bad frame pacing, screen tearing, and even broken visuals, like incorrect lightning and environmental flickering.

So, I've since spent a few hours putting Remastered to the test — and unfortunately, I'm still baffled.

I've tried toggling all of the game's visual options on and off, like motion blur, general blur, chromatic aberration, screen effects, and vignetting. None of these adjustments have had any noticeable impact on performance.

I've also tried enabling and disabling the Remaster's telemetry options, as I had seen some players claim that letting CD Projekt Red harvest your gameplay data causes performance to falter. Again, it made no difference either way.

I reloaded old saves. I travelled to the title's busiest areas. I even tried changing my TV's 120Hz settings, along with the PS5 Pro's own, to see whether I could replicate the frame rate and pacing criticisms. No dice.

In short, I'm baffled (and maybe CDPR is as well).

The only other thing I can think of that might be making a key difference is save files. For the review process, I started a completely fresh save with Remastered; it's possible that save data from older versions simply doesn't gel with the update for some reason.

For the record, I also loaded up a couple of old saves I had from the Complete Edition — which hadn't been touched in years — and they were similarly fine.

Taking all of this into account, it'll be interesting to see what our pals at Digital Foundry have to say.

In the meantime, I'm sure CDPR has a team keeping tabs on all of this stuff. I imagine it's only a matter of time until a patch is pushed through.
