When fans put together private servers for games to allow them to keep going after their public servers go offline, it's the best option in my opinion. Providing tools for that is the best outcome. Publishers may not like it but they can eat sand.
@johnedwin You can put a disk drive in a pc super easy with a sata cable and a couple screws. There's even external ones that plug into a wall and a USB cable. The PS2 emulator can even boot PS2 games from a disk using an external disk drive.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the custom made maps in the game. I remember playing Infamous 2 and thinking it was a neat feature, just never really engaged with it.
Since the layoffs are going to cause the game to be delayed even longer, I have a feeling the game is going to release with a ton of issues. Which sucks cause people have been waiting so long for the game to release.
I do genuinely wonder, in an alternate universe, if we got this in place of Starfield and how that would've panned out.
@naruball Yeah, but some readers may not know that and interpret the opening sentence as the game being a product of a movie's popularity. Just wanted to shed some "back"story to the game's development that I've read over the years. Yknow backstory like backrooms.
What's insane to me is the id tech engine that they had was such a marvel. Dark Ages and Indy were so well optimized while also being able to leverage stuff like raytracing, great lighting and multiple enemies/destructible environmental items without being a stutterfest like UE5.
But I guess since it's not littered with AI and required a fair bit of talented artists to work with it wasn't good enough in Microsoft's eyes. What a shame.
I always went between a Sony console, a Nintendo console and my PC for years (last Xbox console I played a ton of was the 360), but over the last few years I've been playing my Sony consoles much less and my PC/Nintendo console much more. Mainly because I just prefer PC and I can get games much cheaper from Humble and Fanatical and Steam sales.
I've said it on a different article last week and I'll say it again; Sony only cares about their shareholders and their bottom line. They have to lose a ton of money for it to be felt.
I think Sony just walking away and ignoring the fire until things cool down is just as bad of a strategy as Xbox replying to every Twitter schmuck that @'s them. Problem is, I don't think they're ever going to change until it really hurts their bottom line.
Good to see Schreier say that Obsidian is safe. It wouldn't make sense for them to be at risk since they're one of the devs under Xbox's umbrella that has been putting games out at a consistent rate.
In all honesty, I do hope a lot of these bad decisions bite Sony back and make them re-think some of these bad choices. The only way is when they start losing money, so speaking with your wallets matters more now then ever.
@WhoderMan One thing I like about PC/Steam is that there's sites like Humble Bundle and Fanatical that sell Steam/GoG games and the nice thing about them is they try to compete with each other to give people the best deals on games. So if a game is on sale for like $30 on Steam, Fanatical might have it for like $25 with some other offers like it comes with a free game or a 5% off coupon after you buy it. So if you buy from them, they'll give you a Steam key you redeem on Steam.
I can definitely see Sony offering a disc-drive for the PS6 to play PS4/5 games, but there's no way in hell they let people trade in their physical games for digital codes.
It sucks to see but when you look at the logistics, it makes sense to move away from physical, and I say that as someone that grew up loving physical games.
I moved to all digital quite a few years ago cause I was tired of getting shafted by Amazon/Best Buy with shipping new games like 5 days after release lol. Also the closest brick-n-mortar is a half hour drive from me.
@Perturbator I remember being a teenager and thinking the whole "pc master race" thing was an eye roller, but now as a 30+ year old, I think it's hilarious, especially when people legit get mad from it.
Anyways, I do think that in the year 2026, games should not be locked to 30fps and that's it. 60fps should really be the standard nowadays.

Granted I am curious to see the system requirements when the game does come to PC. Knowing Rockstar and how optimized RDR2 was, it should run pretty well on most PCs.

Y'know what, it's a start and I commend them for it.

Re: Dev Accused of Ripping Off Monster Hunter Speaks Out, Says Capcom's Series Is an 'Inspiration'
@Bigumamiflavor I never actually got around to playing a God Eater game, but they look fun.
Re: Dragon Ball XenoVerse 3 Gets PS5 Gameplay Deep Dive, and It Looks Like a Real Step Up
I gotta give Bamco credit, the shaders and animations look like a big improvement over Xeno 2.

We have Soulslikes, now it's time for Monsterlikes to rise up.

Re: Escape the Backrooms (PS5) - Impressively Expansive Co-Op Fun
"At first glance, Escape the Backrooms is just a cheap cash-grab to capitalise on the success of Kane Parson’s Backrooms movie."
The game has been on early access on Steam since 2022, roughly a year before the movie was announced lol.
Nitpicking a sentence aside, I always thought the game looked like a fun co-op romp through the Backrooms. Fun game for the lads during spooky month.

Re: Backlash Against Sony's Disc-Free Future Continues as Petition Passes 200,000 Signatures
Here's to hoping the petition can get Sony to reverse their decision.
Also Herman Hulst getting a higher-up position at Sony was definitely the worst thing.
Re: The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Reportedly Still Years Away from Release
Todd Howard is such a snake-oil salesman. The fact that the game won't be out until another two to three years is kinda ridiculous.
Re: Mortal Shell 2 Promises Quality Souls Action on PS5, Out Next Month
Glad the game is avoiding the busy September. Also the demo made me super excited for the game.
Re: Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced (PS5) - Swashbuckling Classic Restored with Love and Respect
I was watching a streamer play early access a few days ago, super excited for this.
Re: Round Up: Ridiculously Positive Dawnwalker Previews Claim It's a Game of the Year Candidate
I'm still really excited for the game.
September is stacked.
Re: Legendary Dev id Software Allegedly Hit Extremely Hard by Xbox Layoffs
Their id tech engine is fantastic, it's a massive shame it'll be dead.
Re: Reaction: Sony Needs to Start Speaking to Us Again
@ShadowRJ Never said it was, just talking about the comparisons between how Sony and Xbox communicate on issues.

I'm looking forward to the game, I haven't played Black Flag since it initially released.
Re: 'I Know This Is Painful': Xbox Confirms 3,200 Job Losses in Industry Bloodbath
Feel bad for the people that were let go, but on an optimistic viewpoint, none of the studios were flat out closed.
Re: Sony Underfire Yet Again for Blocking Marvel Tokon in 132 Countries on PC
It's such a stupid thing. Sony rakes in billions every year, they can get PSN in these 132 countries. There's just no excuse.
Re: Sony Rewarded with Soaring Stocks After Revealing All-Digital Future
What's sad is this is what Sony likes to see, stocks rise up and the shareholders are happy.
Re: This Backrooms Game Outsold Every PS5 Title on PS Store Last Month
Makes sense with the popularity of the movie and the fact that it's a multiplayer backrooms game.
Re: 'Maybe People Won't Like It': Expedition 33 Dev's Next Game Will Make Some 'Drastic Decisions'
Curious to see what they do after E33 and if it'll stray from the game's formula.
Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Reputation Is at Rock Bottom - Where Do We Go from Here?
If Sony's going to go all in on digital, then they definitely need to improve their store, cause it needs it.

The Oblivion one is pretty good though lol
Re: The Witcher 3 Vibes Are Inescapable in New Dawnwalker Quest Gameplay
I've been replaying the Witcher 3 again after not touching it since the Blood and Wine DLC released.
Man, this game is still so, so good. It also gets me hyped for Dawnwalker since there's so much Witcher DNA in it.
Re: Sony Takes Social Media Time Out After Controversially Killing Physical Games

Re: Xbox Wants to Cancel Marvel's Blade, Close Arkane Studios

Re: This FPS Soulslike Is the Last Ever Project from One of Gaming's Greatest Art Directors
His art for Half-Life 2 is fantastic, it's a shame that he passed away. I added the game to my wishlist, I'll keep an eyeball on it.

Layden literally sums up how I always felt about it, and even how I used to comment on the subject when Sony were porting games to PC.
I always liked Layden and thought he was a really good Exec.
