PlayStation has updated all its social media channels and pages with images relating to its upcoming live-service game Marathon, with developer Bungie posting the first tease.
On Twitter, the team has begun posting black and neon green imagery that fans have found leads to an ARG. The latest update takes the form of a security alert video linking to a website:
In accordance with Bungie's teasing, PlayStation itself has updated all its social media pages with the initial neon green imagery. You can see it on the brand's Twitter page, YouTube channel, Facebook page, and more. Given the sudden but welcome updates, it's assumed these teases will lead to some sort of Marathon reveal or news. We'll update this article if the ARG leads to any important findings.

First announced as part of Sony's infamous PlayStation Showcase from 2023, the shooter is the next game from the Destiny 2 developer Bungie. Very little of the title has been shown since that reveal, but given today's teasing, it's likely that's about to change.

Every time I see this Marathon-in-name-only game, it just makes me sad for what could have been.
Grubb said back in February that Sony was planning a re-reveal event for the game in April. Looks like he might be right this time.
Although I won't be playing the game, I look forward to seeing more of its killer art direction.
I am interested in this game because of its aesthetic. I hope they can nail a worthwhile extraction shooter for consoles.
Love the art they're using 👌
I would try this game if it have single player campaign
Please be good. That's all I ask. Be good.
Definitely interested! Bring it on! Finally some new first party game news
Lime green is criminally underused. Big fan of the color. Big like green enthusiast, here. I enjoy it
Lol. Here we go again.......
I was a little bit interested until they pivoted to yet another hero shooter. Ladies and gentleman, are we ready for Concord 2.0?
@Coffeeglitch But they never did that with it. They clarified that back in October.
"Responding to a YouTube comment regarding the hero-shooter rumors, Bungie emphasized that Marathon’s Runners will have a “couple of base abilities” with a focus on player freedom and individuality, where each player can fine-tune their loadouts and abilities instead of picking from preset “hero” characters with assigned abilities. “Our goal with Runners is to give you a couple of base abilities to build your loadout around while still giving you a lot of freedom to choose what weapons, implants, upgrades, and consumables you bring in,” the developer explained. “This won’t feel like when you just choose a hero and then get whatever weapon/abilities are assigned to them.”"
@Coffeeglitch
Nothing wrong with the hero shooter genre, Marvel Rivals is doing spectacularly. At the end of the day a hero shooter is only as good as its heroes.
@MaelysSedisia thanks for clarifying. While I much prefer my own custom character I can understand this and have a bit more interest, as I am genuinely fine with picking an archetype more or less and building off of it.
@ATaco agreed. It’s also marvel rivals that resulted in overwatch getting much needed changes. Not my usual cup of tea but I’ve enjoyed a few matches in rivals when I’m just bored and don’t really want to invest in a big session.
Oh baby this is going to tank and I already feel bad for the devs.
I wouldn't be surprised if this fails spectacularly too.
you guys wanting every live service game from Sony to fail is dumb and immature. Bungie is a studio that had a lot of success in the live service market in recent years and they been working on this game for a very long time.
flop incoming; the game looks super boring, and by the way - is the boxart seriously just the name and a green background? 🤮
outside of the exception to the rule (HD2) i don’t think sony can produce any fun multiplayer games. i liked concord but even that was on the boring side
I have seen nothing of this game but the name alone gives me vibes of a total flop. Bungie were once decent though so this might be semi successful
Oh I saw all these weird patterns but didn't associate them with Marathon. Interesting.
I wish this genre did anything for me. I should probably invest a little more time in Rivals and see if it clicks. It’s super successful and the reviews are good.
Am I too old? Maybe if I wait longer things will improve
I think the art direction looks interesting. And I'm sure the gameplay will be very good considering the heritage this developer has, but I still don't understand why they would use this name.. could have called it anything and it wouldn't matter.
@EquiinoxGII you know this isn’t the first marathon game right.
@PuppetMaster Just deal with the fact it isn't for you instead of whining.
I'd try this game if it had attack helicopters and soccer elements in.
Like them or not, Bungie have always been the kings of advertising and getting the comminity talking. I remember when Savathun took over their twitter (refuse to call it X) for the build up to The Witch Queen.
This all seems a bit dramatic for a shooty shooty multiplayer game. I do like the art style though.
All the people who think this game is going to flop are going to look like complete muppets when this launches.
Destiny 2 is over 7 years old, gets dragged at every opportunity by fans and haters and it was still a platinum game on Steam last year(the 12 highest grossing games on Steam for the year) and has never failed to reach platinum status a single year, even after the player numbers falling significantly.
Bungie has a massive fan base and their name alone sells. This game also has the bonus of actually looking quite brilliant. The art style and aesthetics of the original trailer were great.
Interesting art but is probably not for me.
We're probably gonna get a new trailer drop soon, with more to see at the rumored May 2025 State of Play/Showcase.
I'm so excited I could fall asleep in my corn flakes
It's going to go the way of Concord. Calling it now...
Also, edit: So many people seem to like the aesthetics behind it, but I genuinely feel it looks off-putting!
I am extremely uninterested
@Puketapu this isn't really the same genre as rivals. It's an extraction shooter - so more focus around sessions of co-op based PvE but where you risk encountering other players DayZ style
@nomither6 TloU and Uncharted MP are really fun though. Ghost of Tsushima Legend co-op also fun. And i'm sure many people enjoyed GT 7 MP.
But i kinda wish they revived Starhawk. I played the MP back on PS3 days and it was pretty fun with build structures like bunkers, armories, etc in the mid of battle as well riding a cool mecha.
i wonder if sony will now make this playstation exclusive now that they have pretty much taken over Bungie
@Toot1st they should
@PuppetMaster oh yeah the ps3 era was legendary! but i’m talking about this generation of sony
@nomither6 I see and i think you're quite right with your statement. This gen i don't think Sony has many 1st/2nd party games that include Co-op or MP. I can't think anything outside Helldivers 2, GT 7, Concord, Sackboy, MLB, Demon Souls remake, and Destruction AllStars. Oh and the upcoming Marathon, Fairgame$, and Horizon MP spin off.
I’m a huge Bungie fan, but I’m just not excited about this one. An extraction shooter? Yawn. Say what you want about Destiny 2, but at least it has a variety of game modes and activities. Maybe I’ll be proved wrong, but I don’t think that this will have the appeal or success of Destiny.
@Jay767 judging by my comment it does suggest so. Yes.
Honestly, the art direction and sci-fi, electronic OSTs for Marathon has slowly built up my anticipation for the game. Very curious to see a gameplay reveal that seems to be right around the corner.
There's been a press event with people getting hands on access with the game, expect a full previewing next week.
I'm not a Bungie fan but this is one of the few live service titles I'm feeling optimistic about. I believe Bungie/Sony are going to throw everything to ensure the game succeeds because there's a lot riding on it, most importantly Bungie's continuing existence.
@Jay767 yes limiting audiences for online multiple games what a great strategy
