I’m here to proclaim VR isn’t dead, but sadly it appears PSVR2 might be.
I write this as someone who bought both the original and PSVR2 close to launch. I absolutely loved it. If anything it’s ruined flat screen gaming for me. I can’t go back.
However, the lack of support for PSVR2 has been astounding and there’s nothing on the horizon.
The answer has been to sell my PS5 and PSVR2, leave PlayStation altogether.
From the money made I’ve bought a 2nd hand gaming pc for around £400 and a quest 2 for £200. Been absolutely blown away by the quality of the quest 2. There’s not a game the rig can’t run but you do have mess with the setting, it’s certainly not plug and play but when you get it right it’s just as good.
Im mainly into driving games and now have a large number to try not just GT7 (that I loved). Honestly can’t recommend doing this enough.
It’s a shame but can’t help but feel Sony have already checked out just when others seem to be investing more.
I’m really disappointed we’re not getting F1 in VR but GT7 is still amazing. I don’t play anything else as nothing compares. Still would have been fun. I’ll keep fingers crossed for 2024.
Think there might be something in that GT7 is so good that they can’t make F1 compare favourably.
I’ll have to make time but still absorbed in PSVR2, I’m sure I’ll go back to flat screen gaming at some point but for now being lost in VR is absorbing.
So that’s GT7 (my go to) and I’ve just paid to upgrade Saints and Sinners ps plus to the tourist edition to get the free ps5 upgrade. Worth £7.99 all day long.
Can’t believe no one’s said they’re playing GT7 in VR. absolutely love the experience and in sport mode it’s been such a rush. I’m not a big online player particularly but racing games online (with some kind of behaviour system) are a different level, so much better than AI. The whole package in VR just blows me away. Worth the cost of the VR alone. I’m sure on a £/hour I’ll more than get my value out of it over the next 5 years.
I’m literally getting this to achieve my dream of driving some of the worlds most exciting cars around equally exciting tracks in decent quality. That experience would cost £1,000’s in real life. Paying just over £500 for an unlimited experience seems good value to me.
Anything else decent in VR on top of that is just a bonus.
Anyone not tried E football since the World Cup update should give it a try. Slowly getting the gameplay back to true PES quality. Not tried the online mode as last time I did it sucked but the offline mode is pretty decent with World Cup related competition. Some how FIFA have the WC licence but E football still has the official kits for international teams.
Love weekends. It’s some 2018 God of War (never played it before), some driving (F1 and/or ACC) and FM 2023 on game pass- the premier league best watch out Altrincham FC are coming 😂
Playing GOW from the ps plus collection. Only an hour or so in but loving it. Outside of that probably a bit of driving in some form. Like Asseto Corsa Competizone (excuse the spelling). Waiting for GT7 to price drop. Loved the online league in GT Sport but hearing GT7 online nowhere near as popular. Is it worth the cash?
Have to agree with kejsi- having read the comments I thought we’d be looking at photo realistic (like the matrix demo). This looked pretty average to me. The water looked terrible, bunkers no real depth to them. Can’t be that hard to recreate a course in near photo detail given with picture is static.
Have to say this was the one psvr games that hit the spot completely. Playing with an aim controller and met some really interesting people too. Once you were in a squad with people you know it was something else.
@spacedonkey I’ve a playseat challenge. Had it probably 3 years plus. Use it regularly. Great licence of kit. Looks like it would be flimsy but it’s anything but. It’s a good investment especially as it’ll never get outdated.
I’ve got a better wheel now but my advice for newcomers would be just to buy a cheap (non force feedback wheel) or get a second hand one to get started. It certainly doesn’t need to cost £299 be of use.
Also I started with the ‘ironing board method’ instead of a table. Actually works incredibly well. Heartedly recommend that for anyone on a budget.
Am I the only one who was underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong I love the GT series and have sunk hundreds of hours in GT Sport but to me this doesn’t look any different than say GT6.
I thought the rain effects whilst in car looked average. They should have borrowed the script from driveclub that was first class.
Biggest disappointment was no mention or hint of psvr2 compatibility.
I tired the RE7 demo in VR. All I recall was a slight scratching noise coming from the other side of a door. At that point I took the headset off and decide VR horror isn’t for me. I’ve since bought Saint & Sinners but I’m still too scared to load it up.
Someone earlier dismissed this saying casual games (playing only fifa, COD and fortnite) are the only one that will care so it won’t affect Sony’s sales but surely casual gamers make up 95 percent of the market. That would be devastating.
I love PlayStation but have to say they affordable Xbox series s, coupled with game pass and exclusives like flight sim, now mean I have both.
@Bleachedsmiles totally agree and can only hope but I suspect they’ll save GT 7 for PSVR2 as you say. Surely a decent driving game would be a system (or tech in this instance) seller.
Personally I’ve never understood why no one has been able to take say the ps3 version of Grid or even GT 6 and convert it into a PS4 PSVR game. Surely it could handle the graphics and physics. I can’t believe there’s not consumer appetite out there. We’ve had so many remasters why not onto PSVR?
Am I the only person who just wants a decent racing game on PSVR? I still play GT Sport in VR every now and then and Dirt Rally (which is incredible if you’ve never tried it) but I just want someone to complete against.
In anticipation of ps5 I convinced the wife we needed a 4K 120hz tv and we got a Samsung something or other. Honestly I run f1 2021 in performance mode (120hz) and I can’t really tell the difference if I’m honest. In fact the only difference I’ve notice vs the old PS4 version is the frame rate doesn’t stall when there’s lots of cars in view.
Are we sure Dirt Rally 2.0 is on PSVR? I’d love it to be but unless it changed they said it wasn’t getting the upgrade. I still play Dirt Rally in PSVR every now and then- wonderful experience.
Cards on the table I loved PES although I did FIFA for a few years in the ps3 era when PES hit a low.

Their focus is clearly to make it available across all devices.
The down side to this is dumbed down gameplay and graphics. Which explains that awful arrow stuck under each player being controlled, that’s needed for mobile controls where the input isn’t as precise.
PES as we know it is never coming back, but if they pick up X million mobile players it’ll be deemed a success from their point of view.
I can live with micro transactions to be honest and understand Konami need to find a way to make the game pay but cross play with mobile is going to ruin the great PES gameplay, one of its only strong points. Personally I’m gutted. I’ll try it and hope my assertions are wrong. RIP PES, thanks for the sweet memories.
Personally think most people are missing the most worrying aspect, cross play with mobile, that’s going to seriously down grade the game play (the only strong point of PES). Maybe that demo the other week really was the gameplay we’re going to get. Terrible news.
I’ve got a challenge playseat chair too, remarkable piece of kit. Looks like it will be flimsy but actually very sturdy and ultra convenient. Can recommend to anyone.
Can’t believe the hate for the game on here. Sure it’s target audience is 5 to early teen but that’s ok, they’ve a right to game too. 150 million users tends to say they’re on to something.
My 12 year old daughter loves it, just builds towns with her friends. She’s turned into quite the architect/ interior designer. I’ve seen nothing but a positive experience from it. Better than 7 year olds playing GTA or COD.
Am I the only one who really wants a decent driving game? Full grid (inc multiplayer). F1 VR the dream ticket. I’d buy it just for that alone.
Also I’ve never understood why someone couldn’t remake say Grid from ps3 in the original VR and get it to run. Dirt Ralky VR and wipeout surely show it can be done?
I’d not played much FPS since battlefield 4 but got into this a couple of weeks ago. Bit of a learning curve but nothing half an hour on YouTube can’t teach. Having a blast with it, best with friends but fine to pick up and play with some randoms if need be. Not spent a penny and pretty sure I won’t ever need to. Can’t complain at that.
I might be wrong but the micro transactions are purely cosmetic so I can’t see how there is a need to get involved or why they’d stop you from playing the game.
That said unless the game is free in the first place (war zone or fortnight) I think micro transactions should be a no. It’s the future of gaming though so unless you only want to play retro games you’re going to have to get used to them being there.
I’ve had a PSVR for a long time now and do love it though admittedly I can go through long phases of not playing but then when I do go back I’m blown away.
I agree with someone from earlier who said the resolution isn’t the issue its the hardware being good enough to process the games at the higher resolution already available.
Something like driveclub would have been amazing but it just couldn’t be processed so ended a blurry mess.
Think there are a lot of PS4 and ps3 games that surely could be very easily adapted for the psvr2 without having to create expensive new IP. Even I dare say GTA 5 or San Andreas.
Somehow i’ve Become hooked on COD Warzone. I’m not one for a FSP multiplayer usually but taking a leaf out of @sammyb’s madden experience, I’ve stuck with it, researched a little and now having a blast.
Great article. I’m a PES man myself but in the PES dark days I did throughly enjoy ultimate team. @sammyb did you consider short cutting and spending some real world cash?
Sports weekend for me. GT Sport, trying to up my ranking from C but it’s probably the right level for me to be competitive. Then it’ll PGA Tour 2k21 and some PES lite. PES still the better game of football and if you download the kits it looks great too.
Great article Sammy. Love your dedication to learn the tactics. Online communities are great when they’re helpful. Guess that comes from a smaller community with a niche interest that they all share. Suspect it’s the demographic of the player base of games like Madden, FIFA, Call of Duty etc that’s the issue. A large number of younger players who never play anything else and therefore don’t feel the need to be supportive. Just turn your mic off, silence theirs and ignore any comments that get posted. Shouldn’t let the abuse hold you back.
Finally a shout out to the Firewall Zero Hour community, certainly the most receptive and helpful I’ve come across.

Re: Feature: PSVR2 Three Months Later - The Good, The Bad, and The Worrying
I’m happy with my PSVR2. Mainly just play GT7 admittedly but disappointed with the lack of future games.
As a minimum I’d have thought it possible to port some ps3 or ps4 games and convert for VR rather than writing them from scratch.
Not saying it’s easy but probably cost half the price of new IP.
Re: After Transformative Gran Turismo 7 Update, F1 23 Will Not Support PSVR2
I’m really disappointed we’re not getting F1 in VR but GT7 is still amazing. I don’t play anything else as nothing compares. Still would have been fun. I’ll keep fingers crossed for 2024.
Think there might be something in that GT7 is so good that they can’t make F1 compare favourably.
Re: F1 23 Gameplay Flaunts Revamped Physics, Improved Handling, Red Flags, More
Crushed it has no PSVR2 support. Anyone know if it has VR support on PC this year?
Re: EA Sports F1 23 Brings Back Dramatic Story Mode Braking Point on PS5, PS4
PSVR2 support is the only thing that interests me. Can only hope.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 473
@thefourfoldroot1 I second that. Not played any cake games in month. Come to think of it I’ve played nothing but GT7 in VR in months.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 470
@Ravix I enjoy the season reports. Be sure to let oar next week. I don’t have time to commit to FM but enjoy reading yours.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 469
I’ll have to make time but still absorbed in PSVR2, I’m sure I’ll go back to flat screen gaming at some point but for now being lost in VR is absorbing.

Re: Poll: We Want You to Rate Your Favourite PSVR2 Games
Pleased with the love GT7 is getting. As someone said I’m struggling to play anything else it’s just that good. Worth the entry fee alone.
Hoping to prize myself away and try saints and sinners, also bought Pavlov but the track keeps calling.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 468
Keep meaning to try other games but hooked on GT7 in VR. It’s such an adrenaline rush.
Really need to widen my horizons but it’s just too good.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 467
@thefourfoldroot1 so true 😂

Re: Gran Turismo 7's Free PSVR2 Patches Hits the Starting Grid on 21st February
Don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a computer game related release.
To anyone lucky enough to be able to afford it, enjoy.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 463
Not sure what to play, just counting down the days until psvr2 arrives. Cannot wait to be playing GT7 in VR. Dreams come true.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 460
Well after this weeks GT7 PSVR2 news I’ll be trying to improve my driver rating in sport mode before my driving dreams come true next month!
Re: Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2 Is the Full Game, Except for Split-Screen Play
Been checking the website everyday for this news. Thrilled. Preordered the headset solely for this.
Hopefully F1 2023 and ACC with support psvr2 as they do PC VR.
Can’t imagine how many hours I’m going to sink into this 🫣 but sure looking forward to it.
Just sold my PSVR, motion controllers and aim controller to help fund. Pleasantly surprised to get over £200. Good investment if you ask me.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 454
Playing ACC and E football this weekend.

Re: Poll: Will You Pay the PSVR2 Launch Price?
I love my original psvr and still play it today but can’t believe they’ve not announce GT7 for psvr2.
Until there’s a decent fully fledged driving personally I’ll save my money.
Re: Poll: Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?
Personally I feel the ps5 has been a disappointment if I’m honest.
I don’t think it’s the hardware just the constant stream of remakes and cross gen titles. Want to see a new AAA put it to the test.
The best I’ve seen was the matrix demo. Now that was truly impressive and hopefully a sign of what is possible with this generation.
Re: EA Sports Hopes You'll Fore-get PGA Tour 2K23 Is Out on PS5, PS4 This Week

Re: Best Racing Games on PS5
I saw the headline and came on here to check if Assetocorsa Competizione (ACC) got a mention.
I love racing games of all types but ACC is an unbelievable experience (just the sound alone is worth a mention).
However, I still play Driveclub VR imagining what a fully licensed F1 game in VR would be like.
Re: First Impressions: Gran Turismo 7 on PS5, PS4 Looks Like the Biggest and Best Yet

Re: Soapbox: PS5's Next-Gen PSVR Headset Is Going to Drop Jaws in 2022

That’s got to be a system seller surely!?

Cards on the table I loved PES although I did FIFA for a few years in the ps3 era when PES hit a low.
I think people are missing what they’re trying to do with this e-football— it even says it in the introduction- they are trying to make a mobile football game that interacts with console.
FIFA is the only option now and that’s sad news.
RIP PES.

Re: Sony Confirms Next Generation PlayStation VR Is in the Works for PS5
Great news, totally thrilled by the news.
Love my PSVR although do have periods where I don’t touch for a while and then periods I can’t put down.
All I really want on it is a competitive driving game- is it being timed for GT7’s now delayed release???
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 364
Sports weekend for me. GT Sport, trying to up my ranking from C but it’s probably the right level for me to be competitive. Then it’ll PGA Tour 2k21 and some PES lite. PES still the better game of football and if you download the kits it looks great too.
