everynowandben

What I played on PS3 in 2020:

Adventure Time: Secret of the Nameless Kingdom
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham Origins
Bioshock
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1)
Dead Space
Dead Space 2: Severed DLC
Dead Space 3: Awakened DLC
Dead Space: Ignition
Enslaved
God of War: Ghost of Sparta HD
Resident Evil 5

Yeah I definitely still play it a lot, hahaha...

Re: Soapbox: I've Missed the Feeling of Having a Backlog

Games I own:

Way too many to count, probably ~800 or so

Games I've beaten:

~450

Games I started but have not yet beaten (excluding: sports, racing, party, fighting (unless there is a "story mode" such as Injustice, SSBU, etc.), multiplayer only, and/or games I did not pay for):

~50

Games I own, but have not started (excluding: sports, racing, party, fighting (unless there is a "story mode" such as Injustice, SSBU, etc.), multiplayer only, and/or games I did not pay for):

~70

2020 has given me extra time to whittle down my backlog, and I've beaten a TON of games this year, but I'm pretty sure I'll never actually catch up. Certainly, there are some games I know I'll never finish because of high difficulty, or because I don't actually like them but also cannot sell them because I purchased them digitally. I haven't purchased very many games this year on purpose because I'd really, really like to get my backlog numbers down. If I can get down to less than 50 total left to play and beat, and less than 10 owned but not played yet, I'll be at a point I feel more comfortable with, but that's going to take a while yet for me to get there. There are just too many amazing games out there and not enough time to play them all!

Re: December 2020 PS Plus Games Are Available to Download Now

@Feena I like Cuphead too - that’s the kind of difficult I can appreciate and enjoy. Unfortunately Hollow Knight uses a different type of difficulty mechanic. It’s not a perfect analogue, but imagine in Cuphead if when you died, it took you back to the previous level instead of letting you try again, and it also took away the power-up you were using, and the only way you could get that power-up back is if you made it to the same spot in the level as where you died, all on your very next try. If you died again before you made it back, you’d lose that power-up completely, and you’d have to replay the levels you already beat in order to get your coins back in order to buy the power-up again. I view that as a waste of time, and difficult in a way that is too punishing and simply not fun. However, I do understand that some people get a rush of adrenaline from that, since the stakes are so high, but I personally find it frustrating. Hopefully that makes sense and illustrates the difference between these 2 types of difficulty.

Re: December 2020 PS Plus Games Are Available to Download Now

@Feena Just for the sake of a different perspective, I enjoy Metroidvanias very much, and found Hollow Knight was simply not for me, if not extremely overrated in general. The game's difficulty stems from heavy punishment for imperfection, which is something I don't appreciate in games. If you don't mind "souls-like" difficulty (for example, when you die in the game, you lose time, progress, and experience - potentially permanently if you don't make it back to where you were when you died - in an already difficult environment) then this may not bother you. I prefer difficulty that doesn't waste my time as found in games like Celeste for example, where dying means I can immediately try again with nothing lost. Starting over in a game with a few minutes lost is no big deal to me - starting over with 10 minutes lost, and then dying again and losing the last 30 minutes of experience is just not fun in my opinion. Different strokes for different folks though of course. I just wanted to mention this before you spend money on something you might potentially regret like I did.

Re: PS Store End of Year Deals Sale Discounts Lots of PS4 Games

everynowandben

@theheadofabroom I could, but it just kinda wouldn’t feel right. When I purchased MD, it was $4.49 like it is now, and the DLC was $2.99, but I wasn’t sure that I would like the game, so I didn’t get the DLC. Turns out I did like it, and since finishing it, I was waiting for the DLC to go on sale again - but it didn’t, even though the game did.

Sorry, hahaha, I didn’t mean for that to turn into a big thing! It’s not a big deal or anything, just a strangeness that I felt like pointing out in my original post 🤓

Re: PS Store End of Year Deals Sale Discounts Lots of PS4 Games

everynowandben

@theheadofabroom Sure, but I already played HR (Director's Cut).

The point I was trying to make is that Square-Enix via Sony put the game, both standard and deluxe editions, on sale for like 80% off, while the DLC (which I have not played) is still full price, and costs more than 3 times the price of the entire game (more than 2 times the cost of the deluxe version which includes that DLC). I was commenting more on the odd sales tactic rather than the quality of the game itself.

I just find it strange that they're basically excluding people who have already invested in the game; people who would possibly pay more for more content, but not so much more that one could buy the entire game 3 more times and still not have spent the amount of money they're asking one to spend for the DLC alone.

Re: DualSense PS5 Controllers Will Be Available in Black and Other Colours 'In the Future'

everynowandben

I really dislike owning multiple controllers that are exactly the same, so I'm holding out for new colors before I buy a second one. Unfortunately, I also like to keep one controller charging/charged while I use the other, so it looks like I'll be unable to do that for a while. Kinda lame on Sony's part - MS has several colors available right off the bat in addition to allowing previous gen controller compatibility. Nintendo also had multiple colored joy-con available immediately. Oh well..

Re: PlayStation Store Halloween Sale Has Some Spooktastic PS4 Deals

everynowandben

Playing through/finishing up Deus Ex MD now - overall, it is AWESOME and I absolutely recommend picking it up at that price.

I also played through The Order 1886 recently, and cannot recommend it even at $9.99 - I got it for $4.99 and I suppose it was worth that, so if you're thinking of picking it up, wait for a better sale.

Re: Hands On: Genshin Impact Is a Very Impressive Free-to-Play Action RPG

everynowandben

I played this for a couple hours yesterday and was actually enjoying it, but I'm concerned about investing too much time into it without a payoff.

I have a couple questions I can't seem to find answers to about this game if anyone can help:

1. Is this a game that can be beaten?/What are the requirements to roll credits?

2. Has anyone actually run into a microtransaction wall?

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Built from the 'Ground Up' for PS5

@God_of_Nowt
'I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. 'Of course you don't — till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'

'But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

everynowandben

@Flaming_Kaiser Okay, but I don’t care if GP is “sustainable” or not. I don’t work for Microsoft, and I’m not required to think about their business strategy. The way GP works right now - what it is right now - is awesome. If it sucks in the future, I’ll stop subscribing. Simple as that.

Not sure how you define “blockbuster single player game” but most of the games I listed are both single player and high in quality. Other AAA single player games that are or were on GP this year include: Red Dead 2, Doom, Wolfenstein 2, Dishonored 2, Outer Worlds, Remnant, Witcher 3, FF15, DQ11, Kingdom Hearts 3, all the Halo games, all the Gears games...I could go on - not sure what you’re looking for.

I’m not trying to suggest that Sony should adopt the Game Pass model. All I’m saying is that GP, in its current form, is awesome.

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

everynowandben

@Flaming_Kaiser I played the following games this year on Game Pass:

Battletoads
Bridge Constructor Portal
Carrion
Life is Strange 2
Man of Medan
Metro: 2033 - Redux
Metro: Last Light - Redux
New Super Lucky’s Tale
Observation
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Plague Tale: Innocence
Resident Evil 7
Sea of Thieves
Streets of Rage 4
Superhot
Untitled Goose Game
What Remains of Edith Finch
World War Z

So far, I’ve spent around $85 on Game Pass Ultimate.

I don’t think waiting a month is going to allow for me to pay that small of a price to play all those games, especially considering I need online to play some of these, and others don’t even have physical copies available to purchase even if I wanted to buy them that way. On top of that, playing a game on day one of its release is satisfying to me as it allows me to be in the conversation as it’s happening.

Re: The Dream Is Dead: PS5 Will Not Play PS3, PS2, or PS1 Games

everynowandben

How did the rumor that PS5 was backwards compatible with all previous Playstation home consoles even get started?

I feel like I read an article 12-18 months ago that said PS5 could do that (not that I personally believed the rumor), but I think that's why there were/are so many people that believed it to be true.

Re: All PS5 Launch Games

everynowandben

@Pinkman For whatever reason, PushSquare hasn't listed these games in this article (copied from IGN):

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla
Cyberpunk 2077* (Releases alongside PS5 worldwide launch on Nov 19th)
Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War* (Releases Nov 13th)
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
Destiny 2: Beyond Light
Godfall
Fortnite
Marvel’s Avengers
Observer: System Redux
Watch Dogs Legion

(Edit: added more confirmed launch games)

Re: Poll: Will You Buy a PS5?

everynowandben

@MrGawain Try Uncharted and the 3 newest Tomb Raider games if you haven't. Based on the games you seem to like, that's 8 more games on PS4 I'm pretty sure you would absolutely love.

Edit: Perhaps you don't like guns in games. Even so, give TR a shot.
