@Porco I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. I tend to apply it to modern gaming in general. Being of an age where I always have a backlog to work through, I would far rather wait and read reviews than put down money on something that is either lacklustre or unfinished at time of launch.
@Deljo Absolutely this. What's the point in having a 4K machine & a 1080p TV? Gaming is an expensive hobby these days. I can't understand people who don't invest themselves in it. You've literally gotten 4/5ths of the way there. No need to get an OLED (although that's where it's at) - a good 4K TV isn't that expensive and brings so much to the party.
Heaven forbid actually GIVING the skins away for free as a gift and a thank you to the community for paying full price and supporting the game from launch. What a nice idea that would have been. Instead they choose greed and are rightfully being dragged through the mud for it. A full price have should be just that - a FULL price, complete game. I have no issue with paid DLC that expands the original title and gives the player something new, but cosmetics - 🖕
Kojima Productions are Elite tier in their work. They managed to get results out of Decima that put Horizon in the shade. Specifically the lighting and rock geometry. Pairing the next-gen iteration of Decima with UE5 MetaHuman will produce results never experienced in gaming. Despite his God-tier status, for me he still doesn't get enough respect, or Yoji Shinkawa his art director. Between them they have made the gaming world that bit brighter during their tenure.
Bring on DS2. Lets finally see some future tech. What a time to be a PlayStation gamer 💙
I buy physical for 2 reasons. Firstly I share my games with my son, so a physical disc is a no brainer. I think we should certainly be able to lend digital items amongst family members - perhaps with some form of access code attached. Secondly, being an adult, I'm somewhat behind the new release curve due to work / family constraints so I buy alot of games second hand from eBay. Dirt cheap. Just picked up Doom Eternal for £6. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Physical all the way. I also got burnt with a digital version of Transformers Devastation that was pulled from the store and became unavailable to redownload, despite being a purchase. Since then, I've always bought physical unless digital is a really good deal. Much prefer to own my media rather than merely have license to use it.
PR disaster. Surely someone at Sony saw this coming. All 1st party titles go under the microscope as it is. GT was already dealing with considerable negative criticism. The smart move wouldn't been to increase the rewards somewhat and fix the games issues.
@Paranoimia - have to give you a nod here. Loved HZD and an playing Days Gone now (late I know). What a phenomenal title. It does so much right, from the weather to the pure survival loop out in the wild.
Not that many will read this now, but as a latecomer to the game, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. Playing on a vanilla system I've had a very stable experience with only the occasional audio glitch (late) to break the immersion slightly.
What has impressed me is the environment and weather handling. The transition from wet to dry, day to night, fog to storm and snow are superb. Haven't seen puddles that look at good out natural in a game like this, and the snow effects and the subtlety of which they blend in at... How did that not get mentioned in the review?
The game actively encourages invention, whilst constantly keeping you in your toes. I'd recommend playing on hard difficulty for a much grittier experience. Even the simplest encounter in the wilderness can get you killed which creates an understanding of your survivability on a minute by minute basis.
I think this game reviewed at a time when it was good to take shots at Sony. Death Stranding faired similarly. But to me, a good game is a good game and this is definitely a good game.
I'd give it an 8.5, with no doubt the PS5 4K 60fps version ramping up to a 9.
And wait until you encounter the hordes. Prepare to be terrified!! 🧟🧟♀️🧟♂️
Here's praying they don't decide to resurrect Splinter Cell. As much as I love it and would dearly love to see it return I feel they cannot put together a good title these days.
H:FW will be massively gimped to run on PS4. Guerrilla have already stated that the poly count for Aloy in the new game alone is more than the combined poly count of ALL the machines from the 1st game. Add in the massive draw distance and complex water shaders / physics and I see issues with 7 year old hardware.
I know the Decima engine is cutting edge but still, it'll be a huge downgrade. I still don't see how the 'SSD' being the 'game changer' can all of a sudden be not a factor.
I completely understand why they are doing this. A 120 million install base cannot be just forgotten, but their marketing has sucked, which is a shame.
I've always been a PlayStation fan, although really enjoyed owning a 360 (or 7) during that generation. I won't be riding to pick up the PS5 at launch. 2021 it will come into its own.
They would fare better with a £10 upgrade 'patch' than a fanbase of pissed consumers. Whomever thought this one up made the wrong call. I agree you can't just give everything for nothing, but by the same token being hyper divisive of your most loyal fans is ridiculous. It could do more harm than good in the long run.
Give a little now, receive alot in the future. Gamers are a loyal breed.
God, what a joke. The game runs like s**t on PS4. Purposely waiting to play it on the new hardware. Many in the same boat. What a divisive, cheap money grabbing tactic. I genuinely expected better here. Especially as PS5 is on a roll at the moment.
These bigshots on super salaries who make these decisions make me laugh. Now is the time to give a little and receive ALOT come next gen...
1440p upscaled is the sweet spot. With next gen reconstruction techniques the eye (mine at least 😂!) can't tell the difference. Wasting resources to hit 4k needlessly is just that. Fantastic if devs give consumers options to display the games how they like, but a 1440p 60hz option 'should' be mandatory for these systems going forward.
Xbox will be the same. Fools thinking the machine will hit native 4k 60fps with full RT every game are delusional.
The animations in AC were poor. You can tell the system hasn't been updated. Blending is almost non existent leading to a janky awkwardness to it. The facial and voice acting - let's not go there...
Seriously, where's Splinter Cell? A brand new, refreshing take on that would've created far more buzz then endless iterations of these games.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L You can put as little or as much into it as you like. I'm at 130 hrs on my first playthrough. So much to see and do. The combat never gets old. Your in for a treat.
@invictus4000 I think alot of people didn't enjoy it because they didn't invest enough in the combat. Turn the skill level up and becomes quite tactical with large battles requiring forethought to come out on top of.
I'm currently watching my son play it (he's 8). He's level 28 and 36 hours in. He absolutely loves it.
PS4 back compatibility is fine. PS3 backward - not interested. Old games are just that. Old. Personally I want new games and new experiences. Not tired old ones.
Games that aren't niche games would be a good start. Your never going to please everybody, but last month's titles, despite being quality products were boring for the majority. They need a good run into ps5 now. Give a little...
I wonder what next-gen upgrades will be added to engines such as Decima, RE etc as this was really amazing. Even just from a technical perspective. Both nex-gen platforms are going to offer fantastic possibilities to developers.
Wait until we see some games. Heads gonna roll... 🥳
Ridiculous. If the whole point of the console generation is simply to push a higher resolution, what's the point in EVERYBODY saying they prefer a smoother frame rate...
For a 12TF machine to run a cross gen title at 30fps is a JOKE. They need to be SELLING these machines now with the hype train.
I'm starting to feel underwhelmed already. Everybody above pretty much echoes this sentiment of fps>resolution.
Upscaled 4k and a high frame rate is infinitely better than 'native 4k' bs.
@ChipBoundary Well, thanks for pointing out that me and 5 or so of my 40+ year old friends are all wrong in our opinions with regard to the value of our PSN subscriptions 🤣
For me personally, the last year has been a waste. None of the EXTREMELY good value games have interested me. Those that have, I've already owned. As for multiplayer, I play once in a while with my son when he feels like it, so lumbered with his subscription as well, no, it isn't good value to me. Cloud saves I could happily live without forever as well.
Not everybody has your perspective. We all have our own independent viewpoints and they're all valid.
If you enjoy paying your subscription, that's fine. I think things have to change for the next generation as I consider it poor value.
@ChipBoundary Oh, I do apologise for being so sad that you need to explain something so trivial to me from your bubble of omnipotence.
Following your logic, with next generation consoles having considerably more horsepower, wouldn't it be feasible again to have have free multiplayer then...
I think people are fed up with paying for a service that comes up short in value. That's my overriding point. The free games arent particularly attractive to the vast majority and paying for online when alot of people don't play very much doesn't scream value, hence my original post.
@crazykcarter Online play should be free. It's free on PC so why pay on PSN? The PS+ subscription should be tiered on PS5, with online being free. They're not going to be giving away 2 PS5 games a month, so they really need to rethink all this. The suggestion of PS+ merging into PS Now I think is a great idea.
Bottom line (hopefully) things need to change. Whether Sony listen 🤷🏼♂️
I hope for the sequel they make things far more organic. Forget the map and markers where everything is. Make the machine movement natural according to the terrain.
