I suppose this is the safe route for them. A bunch of their new original games haven't exactly hit the way they'd have liked (remember Hyperscape? no? didn't think so), so they're gonna lean on the tried and true IPs and formulas for a while. Not too surprised.
I started NG+ but set it to story difficulty and I'm mainlining it to get the 3rd ending and the final trophy connected to it. NG+ seems good for those who want to get more time out of SB but I have more games waiting and I'm ready to move on.
I liked it a lot - without going into spoilers I'll say I like the general idea behind the remakes, even if it's not necessarily the same as the beloved original. Good game.
Ok so there's a bit of nuance here. PSN isn't available in all regions Steam is. Now sure, it always said the account was required but the link could also be skipped. Now here's the thing - imagine you bought the game and then found out your region is not on Sony's list. If the requirement was enforced from the beginning, you could easily have refunded it (as Steam policy supports automatic refunds for games played under 2 hours and owned for less than 2 weeks) - 3 months later it's no longer that simple. I imagine they'd still refund it but you have to go through support now. And yeah, in practice you can just lie when selecting your region and nobody will check that but technically it's against TOS and can get the account banned.
It's behind other game in the series while also being the 4th best selling game of this year in USA (behind Helldivers, CoD and Dragon's Dogma) - which I guess tells more of a general market story than FF specifically.
@Johnny_Ace I thought it was the machine gun rover that got the buff (which makes sense). I use the laser rover on most bug missions and it’s still very strong. Overall, I think these “meta shifts” are fine, makes you try new things - and I say this as a Sickle + Quasar kinda guy
I always thought Slayer's movement looked a bit goofy and this new version is a big upgrade to my eyes. I bet fighting him will be a pain though - probably kills Chipp with 1 counter hit
I picked up my copy yesterday but haven’t started it yet, as I’m one hard difficulty chapter away from the Rebirth platinum. I guess this means I’ll be playing it tomorrow at the latest.
Even though I play very snappy fighting games, where every frame of delay counts, I somehow never had an issue with this in the demo. Guess I just found a consistent rhythm early and it was fine.
Also supported by Horizon Forbidden West, The Last Of Us Part 2 (PS5 version aka "remastered"), A Plague Tale: Requiem etc - still not common enough! These modes are perfect for action-adventure games and RPGs.
This seems to be currently the lowest scored review out there. I like metroidvanias so I'll check it out when I have some spare time (which might not be soon).
@Mostik I think they're a similar level of fun. It might be a tad easier but will make you move more (makes you reach for the notes rather than work with your wrists) - so I'd say it's a better workout than Beat Saber.
Encountered one of these last night and after damaging it with some heavy firepower, a squadmate brought it down by landing his hellpod on its back - after which he died in the explosion. Good times.
This is probably my most played game on the VR2 - its only problem is that when playing random songs there's a non-zero chance of getting Electro Swing!
I might get this pack to make that chance slimmer!
@NEStalgia I agree it could've done with more RPG mechanics. Weapon choice was basically reduced to a linear progression of "this one does more damage than the last" and while there's technically elemental magic in the game, there's no reason to use one element over another, other than preferring the Eikon skill tied to it. I think there should be benefits to selecting a loadout fit for the current scenario and that's my main issue with the game mechanics.
As for difficulty, I think it would've been better if it was a bit harder, with the regular difficulty renamed to easy (while maybe tweaked in a few places that were not that easy) - so it still could be approachable for those who need it but not kinda disappointing for those who don't.
@NinjaNicky That's weird and I don't see why anyone would do that - they gained nothing for kicking you. Hopefully that was a one-off, never happened to me.
@NinjaNicky You should file a support ticket at https://arrowhead.zendesk.com/ The difficulties not unlocking was a known issue and while they fixed it for most affected players, they said any remaining cases should be reported so they can fix them manually.
@The_Pixel_King I was gonna say - I didn't expect so many comments saying SM2 was bad. Loved it myself.
As for Helldivers - the game is still very fun when playing through matchmaking (which can be a bit wonky at times tbf) but I have to admit playing with your squad in voice chat is a superior experience.
Just gotta hope Sony (and other publishers) doesn't get the wrong idea from this (the takeaway should be "how you do a service game", not "people want a service game")
I don't have much of a problem playing at 30fps, depending on the game/genre. I wouldn't go for the graphics mode in Helldivers but I did in Final Fantasy. Also, I need more games to run at 40!
This is a topic that comes up around fighting games a lot, especially among people who are just picking them up. Idk about generational differences but being on your own against an opponent is a big part of the reason some people enjoy the games and others don't
Good good. I have only one other thing left that I can do before having to use chapter select again, which would reset my progress on this quest. Hopefully this doesn't take too long.
@Specky Definitely not, although I would make sure to play Remake's DLC before Rebirth (it's referenced in the game while not really included in the recap) and at least watch the key parts of a Crisis Core playthrough (if you don't want to play it yourself).
I'm affected by this and will be considering the reinstall if it's not fixed by the time I'm done with all the other things I can do in this chapter (chapter select resets any ongoing quests and I don't want to do the combat part again).
@Nei @SuperSilverback I'm ngl that game seems next to impossible to beat legitimately but there's a way to cheese it, which I imagine a lot of people have done. Click the spoiler if you want a "solution".
You can pause the game and still see the character models so just keep pausing and resuming and if you pause during their attack startup, you can recognize which move it is, resume and immediately perform the correct dodge (though the animations aren't always super distinct so it might still take a few attempts to get a whole sequence right)
@Icey664 @Nei Yeah it definitely looks like something you need to circle back to in the full version - the level clearly doesn't end with that boss fight
Just finished the demo. This seems to have all the stuff I enjoy in souls games with none of the stuff that drives me away from them (and yeah, this is definitely more souls than DMC/GoW/whatever), so I'll definitely be getting it. Boss was very cool even if I expected it to be tougher than it was.
@AdamNovice @Northern_munkey I haven't played on 9 yet but I've seen all others, and they're like... it's all doable as you get more familiar with the game, become more aware of what's effective against what etc (upgrading your ship and getting stronger stratagems helps too). I really like how the difficulty levels are structured in Helldivers - instead of making enemies stronger it makes certain types more likely to appear and introduces more mission modifiers, while also encouraging you to try them with new mission objectives and locking the highest tier of ship upgrades behind them (super samples are only found on 7 and higher).

Sceptical about the shift to open world but let's see how it lands. The reboot trilogy was very good.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Stellar Blade?
I like it a lot. There's a bit of control jank and some sidequests are pretty meh so an 8 from me as of now.

Well, that's it - bots destroyed, bugs contained, nothing left to do. Game was fun while it lasted but I guess the players were just too good.
Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?
I don't have much of a problem playing at 30fps, depending on the game/genre.

Also, I need more games to run at 40!
