Yet somehow darn near everyone I know IRL has at least one game console in their home. Kinda odd if there were only 125 million households globally with a game console. Your numbers aren't jiving. Sounds like you're only counting current gen and maybe last gen consoles and not older consoles.

Alot of casual gamers don't upgrade consoles often and then there are a lot of people who can't afford consoles and are handed down retro consoles by family members. You are most definitely grossly underestimating the number of active retro consoles out there.

@RadioHedgeFund I would hardly call the 10% of the world's population who are console gamers "A niche market". There are roughly 700 million console gamers between modern and retro consoles so again it's hardly a niche industry.

Yeah I seriously don't want to steamroll the game. I thought World and Rise were still welcoming to newcomers while still providing a challenge for returning players while Wilds seems to forego the need to grind at all rendering the gameplay loop that the series is known and loved for completely pointless...

@breadbox22 There's a setting in the system options to have games playable offline, but changing that setting requires the server to be working at the time of the change.

@yOr @dskatter You could if you set your console to do so when the servers are up in your system settings. Playing my digital copy of Monster Hunter Rise offline right now with no problems...

Does the game require PS+ or does it have a single player element/modes?

@Member_the_game The problem with that theory is that the PS5 is still priced too high for most of the holdouts to upgrade. Even I wouldn't have one if it weren't for my grandparents gifting me the console.

I just hope Switch 1 still gets the game as I highly doubt it wouldn't run fine on the OG Switch.

@belmont Most physical releases on Switch do contain the entire vanilla game so that's more a PlayStation issue than physical issue in general.

@ShogunRok Uh...the OG FF VII is MUCH longer than 40 hours long unless you're just doing the story and have the entire game memorized. For most it'll be closer to 60 hours long to beat and WAY longer to complete...

@AdamNovice It should damn well run on PS5 Pro, otherwise why even bother. It's doubtful there will be that many PS6's in the wild at that point which would hold back how many units of the game will sell.

By 2028 the economy will be FAR worse than it is now, so I doubt any of the next-gen consoles will sell more than 50 million units after all is said and done.

@belmont As others have said it isn't guaranteed to be releasing in the Western hemisphere yet, so maybe keep the pitchforks ready, but don't pull them out just yet.

I have no doubt my most played games of the year at least on Sony hardware is Call of The Wild: The Angler on PS4/PS5 followed by The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak!

@rjejr Playing games on a tiny screen would be absolute Garbo regardless of how pretty the graphics were...with my impaired eyesight I'd go blind within months putting that much strain on my eyes...NO THANKS...

@atthegates AFAIK all games will need to be available for the base PS5 as well. Sony learned from Nintendo's mistakes with the New Nintendo 3DS as most exclusives for that had abysmal sales.

@Ravix Hard disagree, the only reason this is happening is because devs are aiming for 60 FPS. If devs aimed for 30 FPS which is 100% okay for the vast majority of us, the PS5 would be a long ways away from reaching its limits even for the biggest games.

@DonJorginho And for 99.9% of us a few extra FPS isn't worth $800...

@get2sammyb I doubt that's the case, but honestly wouldn't be surprised if Sony's throwing around money to entice devs to make Pro upgrades for their PS5 titles.

@DonJorginho I would hardly say they are struggling on the system, sure they might not run at a fluid 60 FPS, but neither did the vast majority of games on the PS4.

@LiamCroft Not quite all of them though. PSOne, PS2, & PSP downloaded games from the Classics Collection are actually retained if they leave the service, but everything else is as you say.
