With pre-orders now live around the world, GTA 6 is highly unlikely to be delayed again. The game is coming on 19th November, which will be a relief to the entire industry, as it looks set to become the fastest-selling game ever made.
But what of Red Dead Redemption 2, which is playable on the PS5 but only via its 30fps PS4 Pro version?
Rumours of a native PS5 port have been swirling for years, with noteworthy snoop NatetheHate2 being the source of much of the speculation.
Asked about its status in late 2025, he said the conversion “exists” but he has “no update on timing for release”.
Fast forward a year and we’ve received a native PS5 port of the original Red Dead Redemption, but not its wildly ambitious successor. So what’s going on?
Well, the tipster hypothesises that the port may be completed, it’s just sitting in Rockstar’s vault and waiting for an opportune moment to release.
Writing on X (or Twitter), he responded to one fan who thought the port may have been cancelled:
“Or plans changed once GTA 6 maintained its release for Nov. The game can sit in a finished state and release whenever Rockstar needs/wants. If GTA were delayed, RDR2 could have been used to soften the blow. With no delay, they can hold RDR2 now.”
While I don’t think a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 would require much marketing, I do broadly agree with NatetheHate2 here that Rockstar will want all of its attention on GTA 6. It can obviously re-release its Western at any time.
What’s strange here is that there’s also been rumours of a GTA 4 port for years too, which are presumably on the backburner as well.
Personally, I wish Rockstar just release these new versions already – in the case of Nico’s open world adventure, it’s frustrating that game’s still stuck on PS3 hardware, and it absolutely deserves a re-release on Sony’s current console.
Here’s hoping once GTA 6 is out of the way, both of these games will get their native PS5 re-releases at long last.
