Re: Lifelong Bethesda Fan Finally Answers: Does Starfield Actually Suck?

THEBrew

This was going to be my next game after CD and Nioh 3 but with the issues still not fixed no chance. I can almost understand why the remaster of Oblivion was ropey but with this they really have no excuse. God help the remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Mind you there were no issues with the PS5 Fallout 4 so maybe there is hope...

@Othatguy I'd be careful restarting as lot of the good stuff is introduced via the story chapters. Without giving any spoilers I just started Chapter 11 and it's only in the last couple of chapters before that the world really opened up and you get to do certain things. I would guess once the story is complete then all the side quests and other stuff is free to do anyway. Problem is from Chapter 9 onwards some of the quests get silly with the mechanics no matter if you follow a walkthrough or not. If they could iron out some of the really frustrating bits it would easily be GOTY.

@Othatguy I was thinking of having a break from CD and starting Nioh 3, plonked the disc in and installed it but then just went straight back to CD. Just got to Chapter 10 so really think better finish it. But I'm wondering if the main quests are just a prelude to the game itself as a lot of the good stuff doesn't start till the latter chapters?

@Othatguy Exactly the same issue, had to use a walkthrough around chapter 8 onwards as the puzzles got so obtuse they could have been up there with Myst or Riven. But aside from that and a few issues with game mechanics it cannot be faulted I am convinced it is literally the biggest game out there. I don't think the AC series could even compete for value for money.

@Oram77 He does have a point, in Monster Hunter Wilds you can make your character look exactly like Grace from RE9. Then in Pragmata the kid also looks very similar to the kid from RE9 too. Even the rest area in Pragmata has similar tunes to the classic Resi save points. Mind you I like to think of that as an easter egg or nod to Resi.

@Northern_munkey I think the best (and truest) thing I read about CD was "It's not a race" whereby players (myself included at the midway point) don't appreciate the size and scope of the game. At now 70 hours in just like any game I start to get game fatigue but CD isn't designed to be rushed through. This game is on such a grand scale that I doubt anyone could just play it through from start to finish without a pause for other games. But as to performance even on a base PS5 it's fine granted I bought the game 2 weeks after release and a few patches in. There are no problems with the performance I mean one crash in 70 hours is good dread to think how many I'd have had in Starfield by that point!

@Northern_munkey 6 out of 10 is crazy I'd have it far higher the only issues aren't with performance but some of the game mechanics which could be made clearer. Not saying the game needs to hand hold a player but some of the moves required for various puzzles is pretty ropey. Also they sell the game on it being non-linear but the main quests only have one way solutions in parts which many players will need to look at a walkthrough I sure did! If it wasn't for that and the boss level spikes it would be my GOTY but still going with RE9 as that was frustration free.

Re: Poll: One Year Later, Did Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Deserve All the Praise?

THEBrew

It wasn't perfect but an 8 out of 10 easy. My main problem was the insane enemy balancing which kicks in about 50% through. Obviously games shouldn't become easier the further you progress (Pragmata is guilty of that) but to suddenly have to grind even if you've spent a good time of E33 exploring takes the p*ss. However Crimson Desert is far worse for that easily knocking it off my GOTY contender position. And for anyone saying get good it's cobblers no-one wants to spend another 100 damn hours levelling up just to finish the damn thing.

Not feeling it RE wise. Then again watched Weapons a couple of weeks ago and was seriously underwhelmed although liked the downbeat ending that didn't pander to an audience. Barbarian had it's moments but again wasn't blown away by it. However the teaser above if it wasn't RE looks decent but owes a lot to the last A Quiet Place movie judging by some of the scares. Still can't be any worse than that last Silent Hill movie, now that was crud.
