Good news: unlike previously revealed, SNK stalwarts Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond from The King of Fighters 14 will return in PS5 remaster Dead or Alive 6: Last Round.
Bad news: they’ll be sold separately from the Standard Edition of the game, and if you already own them in the base PS4 version of Dead or Alive 6, you’ll need to buy them both again.
When the re-release was first revealed, publisher Koei Tecmo said the SNK characters would be excluded, so it’s good to see them return. But the fact you’ll potentially have to double dip to play as them seems a bit tight to us, even though we understand there are licenses involved here.

In other news, the firm has announced a lighting upgrade for the stage Lost Paradise, which it’s dubbing Oboro. The small print says it’ll be applying these improvements to other levels over time.
This continues to feel like a weird package overall, though. As previously reported, there’s no upgrade path for the Standard Edition of the game, so existing owners of Dead or Alive 6 will need to pay the full asking price to upgrade to this Last Round edition.

The firm has said “some” DLC will transfer from the PS4 version to the PS5 release, but we’re still waiting for confirmation of what.
For now, though, we can confirm you’ll have to buy Mai and Kula Diamond separately – even if you’ve purchased them both before.
