Mafia: The Old Country, as its name suggests, takes the series back to an earlier time and setting, exploring the genesis of organised crime in Italy.
In this new video, developers Hangar 13 and Stormind Games provide an overview of their work on capturing the setting of early 1900s Sicily — the latter team being based on the island.
Using old photographs, previous experience from Mafia II's excursion to Sicily, and of course trips to the island to gather information and discover locations, it seems the dev team is very passionate about making the environment an authentic one.
It's looking pretty dang good from where we're sitting — we can't wait to explore the location for ourselves when the game arrives on 8th August.
Mafia: The Old Country goes back to basics in some ways, ditching an open world structure in favour of a much tighter design with a linear narrative approach.

I’ve never been to Sicily but the setting reminds me of the time i wandered around Sardinia with my grandparents and mum and it was like those old Westerns where the piano stops and every turns and stares at you as you enter the saloon. A strange place.
@nessisonett I went to Sardinia as a wee sprite as well and had a similar experience. We were staying in a fancy resort (one of those Granada Telly competitions my mum won) which was all lush and island-vibes in that overly pristine way they do.
Then we headed to the city and it was a stark contrast, some odd contrasting vibes between the tourist luxury and the blokes shooting up in alleyways. Felt a bit like a Fellini film in hindsight. Would like to do Sicily soon so I can finally get married (and then widowed).
Cannot wait for this. I’m glad it’s not open world. Hoping for an unchartedesque level design
Gonna wait and see how this one turns out reviews wise.
I think it’s about £50, so cheaper than some other games.
Great accounts man lol. Great diary
What a great looking environment they've created! Im really impressed, and they seem to have taken good care with lighting design.
Id not really paid too much attention to this before, but I'll be trying to read up more now that Ive seen how good it is. I think I might enjoy the game as well...
Hyped for this game. Love the resurgence of single player linear games.
@AK4tywill My nana bought a lamp made out of a gourd from some local and left it on the boat. No wonder the Brits get made fun of.
My mothers half of the family immigrated from Sicily, so I am especially excited for this setting.

Umm dude.... are you plotting to kill your spouse?
@PegasusActual93 Haha. It's a reference to a famous mafia film that partially takes place in Sicily.
N.i.c.e I enjoy all the mafia games.word up son
I was going to go for Doom Dark Ages next but I think this might come first, looks awesome!
Pre-ordered as soon as I could. Very excited for this game!
Hope it's at least 8/10. It looks like a great linear cinematic blockbuster. We really need those.
