@Sarxion personally as someone who's used a psvr set up for years with one cable, I really think your over blowing it! Played a lot of games, my kids too and the cable has never been an issue. For me personally, I'd say having haptic feedback in the controllers and the headset, with the adaptive triggers and most probably better visuals, this will be the superior version. As will all the other ports that use the foveated rendering to massively increase the visuals and frame rates. And when you compare something like GT7 on psvr2 against grid legends on the quest 2(game looks like a ps3 game and runs like it) I'm happy they went with the cable. Hopefully if they sell enough, developers can really get behind it and psvr setups to really push vr forwards, past what a mobile chip set can do. Proper AAA games like half life alyx. That's my hope anyway.
@thefourfoldroot1 yeah I know! Wishful thinking that they might actually market the hell out of this thing 😒! Looks like they have a brilliant bit of tech on their hands and most of the normal gaming public won't even know its out or what it can do!
Sony's marketing could sell a ton of headsets just showing this game running in adverts. Looks incredible! I used to play project cars 2 on my pcvr setup, and although fun I was always adjusting settings to get it running at 90fps and looking somewhat decent. For this to be the whole game, looking gorgeous and running at 120fps straight out the box is brilliant.
@Andyhunter132 nobody is FORCED to buy anything. You have no idea what the split is, or even whether people picking up the console were not going to buy GOW ragnarok straight away anyway. Plus several places like amazon, shopTo have the console for sale on its own, not in a bundle. Who cares anyway, games a masterpiece and a massive success.
To me the combat makes sense. In the normal games during combat I'm constantly running, diving/rolling out of the way or sliding along the ground. Trying to do that in VR would be really jarring, and I think most people would be sick. Yeah it's not ideal, but as long as its fun and still a decent challenge I'll be happy.
Really can't wait to play this and experience the graphics and immersion that all the new tech has to offer. I'll have 6 games ready for when I open the box. Can't decide whether this or GT7 will be my first game!
Loved the originals on PC, be interesting to see how to plays on console as it gets really hectic trying to manage everything. The controls will be key.
Brilliant lineup for me, can't wait to try GT7 with my wheel and seat set up in VR! And never got around to Resident evil Village so that should be a great experience. Got hello neighbour for my boys as they love the series(is that even on the list? ). Personally think it's a great launch, and for the specs and features it has it's very well priced.
@nedbvai I'm not a fanboy, I have given MS and Nintendo a lot of money over the years, i have all the systems plus PC. Just saying for me personally, GP had not been worth the money over the last year. I think ps plus extra for £83 a year and then paying £70 for a quality experience like Gow ragnarok is better value to me than GP and the odd good day one release. But that's just my take. Hopefully xbox will get their act together and start delivering on their promises, actually manage the 24 studios they have and get decent games out there. And not half finished games like Halo infinite. I'm looking forward to sinking hours into starfield, let's hope it delivers.
@nedbvai I completely disagree with you, for me the last 6 months ps plus extra has kicked GP butt! I'm subscribed to both and honestly apart from the odd game, GP and my series X have in the most part been a waste of money. I really wish I'd have kept my One X and waited until xbox got their act together. Got to be the worst 2 years of a console launch. I really hope Starfield and redfall deliver. And looking through your comments and your love of GP, I think you bought the wrong console my friend.
I was so hoping for this news. If its going to be the full game it's a big addition to the psvr2 line up. Ever since I played project cars 2 on my PC vr setup I've loved the immersion it brings. With gt7 visuals, racing and dynamic weather, this could really help push psvr2 sales.
@__jamiie it's really not just a piece of storage.
The ps4 took between 10 to 20 seconds to load just 1GB into memory depending on where it was on the hard drive. The ps5 loads in 2GB in 0.27 seconds!
Mark Cerny himself said they don't have to render what's behind you until you turn your stick. It loads in data so fast, almost instantaneously! Imagine how that changes level design, npcs, assets on screen, AI, world building. It literally is a game changer. Unfortunately because of stock issues and Sony keeping the ps4 alive we've yet to see the real benefits of this tech.
This from the VP of engineering at Epic Games last year:
This goes beyond faster loading speeds. Guaranteeing that level of performance for every PS5 means developers have the freedom to stream so much content every second, which could fundamentally change how levels are designed and how content is streamed.
“The ability to stream in content at extreme speeds enables developers to create denser and more detailed environments, changing how we think about streaming content. It’s so impactful that we’ve rewritten our core I/O subsystems for Unreal Engine with the PlayStation 5 in mind,” he added
It's not about load times, they are just a side benefit. Hopefully we'll start seeing the real benefits soon, starting with psvr2 and I reckon spiderman 2.
@nedbvai I really don't think its designed to be competition for gamepass. Its an extra service you can have to go with buying the brilliant 1st party games they keep dropping. It's funny, for me I've played more games from ps plus extra since it launched than I have with gamepass.
Great month for me. Several games on that list I've been wanting to try. Definitely looking forward to giving judgement a play through, and I'm sure the wrestling game might be good for a laugh.
I really hope this sticks, MS getting too big would be terrible for the industry in the long run. Maybe, just maybe they could try making some good games with their 24 studios rather than just trying to buy their way to the top. And i say this as a series x owner. And for the people saying this could backfire on Sony because they could spend the 70 billion on other studios, MS have already stated they haven't finished after the Activision deal, they intend to buy more studios after.
@Sqush-Pare I think you are correct. Plus they seem to be monetizing more and more of their games. If it goes up too much I'll just cancel and subscribe on the actual months they release anything! And i find it funny that they ram the whole day one on GP down your throat, but nobody mentions that any DLC has to be paid for. FH5, minecraft dungeons, outer worlds to name a few. To me in a subscription service it should all be included.
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah mostly 100s and 100s of shovel wear, and I say this as someone who's subscribed to GP well into next year. The first 2 years of my series x have been a massive disappointment. If the bland, boring and half finished halo is what we can expect from xbox and GP I'll take PS plus extra and £70 quality AAA games any day. For me personally, when I get 40-50 hours out of a masterpiece like GOW ragnarok, I think £70 is a fair price.
Well i managed to get the bundle, so also going to get the star wars game, saints and sinners 2 and hello neighbour for my son who's a huge fan of the franchise. Fingers crossed for half life alyx. Pretty please valve.
@Toypop so you can see into the future, you couldn't give me next weeks lottery numbers then could you?
I'd guess I'm older than you, gaming has been an expensive hobby over the years, from my ZX Spectrum to my ps5 and series x. Some have been better than others, but that's the chance you take with technology.
I'm paying £500 for a next gen experience in VR. An experience I believe will deliver AAA quality games, great immersive games. I'm supporting a platform I want to see grow and change from a niche product. Me and my family have played some amazing vr games the last few years, and they are only going to get better.
But you do you. We will see who's right in the coming years.
@Toypop wow you can see into the future, that's very impressive! You have no idea how good the games are going to be, or how good the experience will be either. Just your assumptions. From the hands on videos I've watched, the people in the industry were very impressed. I've got an old WMR headset on my PC that gave me great experiences and it's not a patch on the psvr2. The tech in this system compared to the market is very very good. The price is good value, how you think its a massive premium I really don't know. And again if everyone thought like you and nobody bought it, support would dry up and it would be dead on arrival. The more it sells at launch the stronger the support will be going forward. Oh and stadia didn't really rip anyone off, everyone was getting full refunds as far as I'm aware.
Went on at 11 when the email stated and order went straight through. Went with the Horizon bundle, now to wait 🫤. Least they don't take the money until Feb.
@Toypop if everyone thought like you, everything would be dead on arrival. Enjoy your quest 2, me I'm looking forward to an experience that blows that out of the water. The price for the tech compared to the valve index is a steal. And how's it a waste of money if people get enjoyment out of it? In a world where people buy the latest I phone every year even though it does the same thing, to me buying a great new piece of tech that pushes the format forward makes much more sense.
I'm just over 10 hours into GOW ragnarok and the game is just immense. Obviously still got a long way to go, but no game I've played this year has given me a better experience. So probably my goty. Pleased to see stray there, was such a lovely experience and very relaxing. Also i loved my 60 hours in HFW, maybe not the best game ever but certainly better than most released this year.
Definitely going to try this when I get my hands on the hardware. I've just got my email to pre order too, happy days. I'm presuming they will take full payment at the time of the order? Strange it doesn't tell you in the email.
@LifeGirl you do realise the semiconductor shortage effected every industry across the globe, from cars (Ford had cars sitting on production lines), phones, laptops to consoles. Sony can only make what they can get the parts for. Obviously Sony should have their own semiconductor foundry! 😉
@Tharsman you could also argue that its not a good yard stick to measure it by! An extremely highly rated game that was a juggernaut, that came at a time when xbox had nothing of note coming out and PS had several big games. I doubt we'll ever know the true split, but I'm sure it would be interesting reading.
@Tharsman one games sales does not make a compelling argument. It would be very interesting to see the breakdown on this games first week in sales. Especially since Sony have said its the biggest launch of any COD game on their store.
@CapGod we shall see eh, as we're still waiting for announcements. And as Sony have stated many times that they have 25 games in development, my money is on you being wrong and they'll drop several games next year. But hey we'll see who's wrong this time next year.
@CapGod I'm sure it can't be as bad as xbox's 2022 who's 1st party output has been a joke this year. (And i say this as an xbox series x owner as well as a ps5). Personally I think 2023 is going to be a great year on all systems.
Really good selection of games, plenty I will download and try out. For £83 a year, extra is brilliant value. I think for anybody just getting a PS5, pay for ps extra and you wouldn't need to buy any games for months.
Excellent news, hope it really happens. If they release with this, Horizon, RE Village and a patch for gt7 then it will be a great launch line up. And i know some people won't be happy but I hope they make it PC compatible straight out of the box. Yes it will make getting one harder, but VR is still a niche product. The more they sell, the more developers will want to make games for the platform, and we'll be the winners.
I don't think they'll having a problem selling all 2 million. VR is in a much better place than when the first one launched and if they bring the games I reckon it's going to be a massive success. Especially with all the new tech and features the psvr2 has. Thank god that Sony and Nintendo keep trying to innovate and move gaming in different directions.
@Dr_Luigi I think they are trying to find a place between the Quest 2 and high end pcvr like the valve index. And since the index kit is £900, plus needing a pc of similar value to get the 90hz/120hz you need for a good experience I think they might pull it off. Considering some of the features on the psvr2 are the same or better(never been done before), if they can sell this at £400 I think it has every chance of success. Games permitting of course.
@Thehandsomedan And again there are hundreds of pcvr games that use inside out tracking and the same type of controllers. Porting these over will not cost much in expense or time, especially for a platform that's going to sell in the millions.
@Thehandsomedan But it's not the manufacturer saying this, it's developers and publishers that's being reported by many outlets. So again not naivety and NOT hyperbole! It's games confirmed coming to the platform. Your obviously a glass half empty type of person, you do your negativity and ill do my optimism and we'll see who's right. Personally I think they delayed the release to next year so it will have a strong launch lineup and a great first year.
@Thehandsomedan no its the number of confirmed games coming, nothing hyperbole about it. Plus Sony have yet to show what they have coming. And let's not forgot, porting pcvr games will be loads easier because they've been using inside out tracking and similar controllers for years. Lots more sales for their developers. And the developers of the psvr games are going to want to update their old games so they can sell them on the new platform for more sales. Me personally, I'm glad it's not backwards compatible, don't want it being held back by old tech.
@Thehandsomedan there are apparently 50 games confirmed for psvr2 already with even more rumoured. I don't think the platform will have any problems on the games front. Plus with developers working on updates for psvr games I think the problem will be which games to buy.
It's great news that more and more people will be able to get their hands on a ps5. As for the price increase, my family food bill is £10 - £15 more A WEEK! so I honestly don't think a £30 price rise on a console that will last you 5 plus years in the current climate is that bad. And nobodies forced to buy one.
Sounds like they've put a lot of effort into this, and maybe if you'd never played it before it would be a good pick up. But for me (as others have said) it's just too expensive. Half the price and I would have picked it up day one. Sony baffles me sometimes.
I reckon it's going to be £150. The case, 3 different thumb sticks, braided cable, interchangeable sticks, back buttons, programmable and trigger locks. That's a lot over the standard one.
And I think still keeping the adaptive triggers and having trigger locks is a win over all the 3rd party controllers out there. With them you either have the adaptive triggers or they put in trigger lock only ones. So to get the benefit of those triggers in most games but then to be able to put the lock on for fps online games will be great. Hope it comes out this year.
@thefourfoldroot1 you know they can carry on updating this game and work on a new one. Plus I'd argue that all the stuff you just said you'd done is the full game. How many hours did all that take you? I've got 140 hours in the game so got my monies worth. Everything they keep adding is a bonus to me. If they keep adding more menus and tracks for the next few years like they have been doing it just keeps adding to the value.
@brubeck it's a luxury item, as is gaming really. Nobody's forced to buy them.
Personally, for the spec and tech in those drives vs other memory (micro sd cards) they're a bargain.
@DukeeDukems been playing on pc with a 1 cable VR setup for years. Myself, kids and even my non gaming wife(couldn't pry her off Arizona Sunshine) with absolutely no problems. I'm glad they are going with the 1 cable so we get next gen full AAA games in VR powered by the ps5. Until they can provide seamless no latency wireless that works 100% of the time for every single consumer, its the best choice.

Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad
@Dr_Luigi I think they are trying to find a place between the Quest 2 and high end pcvr like the valve index. And since the index kit is £900, plus needing a pc of similar value to get the 90hz/120hz you need for a good experience I think they might pull it off.
Considering some of the features on the psvr2 are the same or better(never been done before), if they can sell this at £400 I think it has every chance of success. Games permitting of course.
Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad
@Thehandsomedan And again there are hundreds of pcvr games that use inside out tracking and the same type of controllers. Porting these over will not cost much in expense or time, especially for a platform that's going to sell in the millions.
Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad
@Thehandsomedan But it's not the manufacturer saying this, it's developers and publishers that's being reported by many outlets. So again not naivety and NOT hyperbole! It's games confirmed coming to the platform.
Your obviously a glass half empty type of person, you do your negativity and ill do my optimism and we'll see who's right.
Personally I think they delayed the release to next year so it will have a strong launch lineup and a great first year.
Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad
@Thehandsomedan no its the number of confirmed games coming, nothing hyperbole about it. Plus Sony have yet to show what they have coming.
And let's not forgot, porting pcvr games will be loads easier because they've been using inside out tracking and similar controllers for years. Lots more sales for their developers.
And the developers of the psvr games are going to want to update their old games so they can sell them on the new platform for more sales.
Me personally, I'm glad it's not backwards compatible, don't want it being held back by old tech.
Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad
@Thehandsomedan there are apparently 50 games confirmed for psvr2 already with even more rumoured.
I don't think the platform will have any problems on the games front. Plus with developers working on updates for psvr games I think the problem will be which games to buy.
Re: PSVR2 Game Horizon Call of the Mountain Is About 7 Hours Long
Can't wait to play this, looks great. More than happy with 7 hours, ideal length for a vr title. Just hoping I get psvr2 day one 🙏.
Re: PS5 Overtakes Switch as UK's Best-Selling Console of 2022
It's great news that more and more people will be able to get their hands on a ps5.
As for the price increase, my family food bill is £10 - £15 more A WEEK! so I honestly don't think a £30 price rise on a console that will last you 5 plus years in the current climate is that bad. And nobodies forced to buy one.
Re: The Last of Us: Part I (PS5) - A Better, More Beautiful Remake of a Modern Classic
Sounds like they've put a lot of effort into this, and maybe if you'd never played it before it would be a good pick up. But for me (as others have said) it's just too expensive.
Half the price and I would have picked it up day one. Sony baffles me sometimes.
Re: Enormous Appetite for PS5 Pro Pad As DualSense Edge Trends
@MattBoothDev the xbox elite controller is £150 and this has more features. I reckon it will be priced the same.
Re: Enormous Appetite for PS5 Pro Pad As DualSense Edge Trends
I reckon it's going to be £150. The case, 3 different thumb sticks, braided cable, interchangeable sticks, back buttons, programmable and trigger locks. That's a lot over the standard one.
And I think still keeping the adaptive triggers and having trigger locks is a win over all the 3rd party controllers out there. With them you either have the adaptive triggers or they put in trigger lock only ones. So to get the benefit of those triggers in most games but then to be able to put the lock on for fps online games will be great.
Hope it comes out this year.
Re: Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.20 Adds New Cars, Track Layouts, and Menus
@thefourfoldroot1 you know they can carry on updating this game and work on a new one.
Plus I'd argue that all the stuff you just said you'd done is the full game. How many hours did all that take you? I've got 140 hours in the game so got my monies worth.
Everything they keep adding is a bonus to me. If they keep adding more menus and tracks for the next few years like they have been doing it just keeps adding to the value.
Re: Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.20 Adds New Cars, Track Layouts, and Menus
Another good update. Really enjoy the new menus and working through them.
Just let us sell duplicate cars please.
Re: One of PS5's Best and Most Popular SSDs Now Has an Even Better Successor
@brubeck it's a luxury item, as is gaming really. Nobody's forced to buy them.
Personally, for the spec and tech in those drives vs other memory (micro sd cards) they're a bargain.
Re: Sony Confirms PSVR2's Release Date for Early 2023
@DukeeDukems been playing on pc with a 1 cable VR setup for years. Myself, kids and even my non gaming wife(couldn't pry her off Arizona Sunshine) with absolutely no problems.
I'm glad they are going with the 1 cable so we get next gen full AAA games in VR powered by the ps5. Until they can provide seamless no latency wireless that works 100% of the time for every single consumer, its the best choice.
