Yeah, PS5 is for exclusives only for me. I play third party games on Xbox because it’s where most of my friends are, and with my screwed up right arm the haptic feedback and rumble crap on PS5 is not a selling point. I just find the Playstation ecosystem to be the least interesting one in comparison to Nintendo’s and Xbox.
This sounds like the opposite of what FF should be, but that’s been true of the series for over a decade now. Unsurprising, but no less disgusting seeing what this series has become.
Fingers crossed DQXII trying to be ‘dark’ doesn’t rob that series of its charm and identity as well.
Playing it on Switch though, it's one of those games that i'll actively alternate between playing on TV and playing on free time at work. It's also where I played the first game and every other HD-2D release.
@themightyant 6 year anniversary of Hollow Knight is tomorrow and there's a state of play in mere hours. Hi-Fi Rush and Metroid Prime shadow dropped so now it's time for Sony to get in on it with a shadow drop of Silksong, timed exclusive for a few weeks on PS5!
Hold on, i've got that clown wig around somewhere...
@themightyant It's been a long, LONG time since Order of Ecclesia and Adventure Rebirth. We're talking DS and Wiiware era here. I need me some real Castlevania, and the 3D track record is spotty at best. I know the potential is there but I gots to know what I want. Dead Cells Return to Castlevania is unironically one of my most anticipated game releases this year and it's a DLC for an entirely different game.
@themightyant eh, made up statistics are spotty but yeah, I got the gist. It's all always opinion in the end so again, respect to you for it and with you on hoping for a sequel that shaves off the weaknesses, I need more of Chai, Peppermint, 808, Macaron, CNMN, and Korsica.
@NEStalgia I'd like to think Miyamoto is hung up with his enthusiasm for Pikmin until retirement personally. Also yeah, the roughly 1% achievement I popped for beating Kale was a little concerning, but it was also in the first week of release so I wrote it off.
@themightyant Took a read and I think I get where you're coming from on the parrying. For me I loved it, and it never failed to make me feel cool in the game, and the Korsica boss fight is one of THE highlights of the game for me, but at the same time it is absolutely the one mechanic that requires rhythm, which forgive me if I misinterpreted, but at the top you said is something you struggle with.
I could definitely see that being a frustration for someone. The samurai enemies were my absolute favorite in the game in terms of standard enemies, but yeah, when the game tries to be accommodating in the standard combat, it doesn't quite make it all the way in some areas, I can see that.
I uh...I think with Hi-Fi Rush at least I am in that 5% of gamers you described, though Rhythm Master mode is giving me a run for my money at the moment. I also don't think you were too harsh at all.
I love how all the 'this always happens at Xbox crowd' are ignoring the likes of Tim Schafer and Josh Sawyer.
@themightyant Hey, you go with how you feel about the game, but I did see PX gameclub was doing the game this month. 8.5 or 9.0, it's clear that quibbles aside you had a good time and that's always a good thing. I won't lie, even this early on i'm hoping for a sequel that maybe does some fine tuning for a few of the rough edges.
@themightyant I kinda get that, the final boss does change up the rhythm aspect in some ways, and I have my own little niggles too in that green enemies requiring Macaron to be called in twice for all their armor when he has the longest cool down...but those can't get in the way of the fact that this is one of those games when I decry 'they don't make them like they used to.'...well this one was made like they used to for me and all 12 tracks are certified bangers to me. Though track 6 is very very short.
To each their own though, glad you enjoyed it too, even if not quite as much as I did.
@themightyant I actually really liked the parrying and how tough the final boss was, felt appropriate. It’s also a game laser targeted to my tastes though, very much reminding me of a Clover title in the same vein as Viewtiful Joe or God Hand, and they nailed it for me, making it…honestly a 10 by my estimation.
VR doesn’t agree with my brain, eyeballs or wallet so pass on those.
But cool indies? They’re my jam more than most games these days so I’m down for that.
Can we be 3 for 3 on the big console manufacturers having a cool shadow drop? Xbox had Hi-Fi Rush and Switch had Metroid Prime Remastered, would be cool to see PS5 get an impressive shadow drop.
@KaijuKaiser 'indie'. It's a game by a well staffed development team under Bethesda first, then Microsoft. At the least it's AA, but I doubt that distinction matters to you.
This is the problem with a TON of users on this site. If it ain't AAA, you call it indie then just write it off. Even though Hi-Fi Rush puts to shame any first party release from Playstation SINCE Returnal.
Played a very healthy chunk of this yesterday. Might be the best Theatrhythm for the sheer amount of songs in here, but still holding out for some Dragon Quest tunes in the DLC...
Twisted Metal is the rare classic Playstation IP that I both respect, and modern Sony HASN’T taken out behind the barn and put a bullet in execution style, so hoping this turns out good.
@anoyonmus Xenoblade X was censored as well, but that was in the Wii U days. Nintendo as a whole has changed how they do things since then, and honestly has mostly snapped up the audience Sony left behind, so these kinds of games being more and more exclusive to Switch/PC in the future would not be a shock to me.
@OnceaThief Yup. They burned most of my good will away because of how they’ve turned their backs on these kinds of games just chasing Hollywood bait with stuff like The Last of Us.
The Japan Studio days with stuff like Puppeteer, LocoRoco, Gravity Rush, Ape Escape, etc. are long gone.
The Metroid Prime remaster that dropped out of nowhere, the Dead Space remake that did not drop out of nowhere, and between those being my big games, I’ll also be playing Dead Cells and Castlevania Rondo of Blood. Getting unreasonably hyped for Dead Cells Return to Castlevania next month, and I don’t know if that’s my love for both Dead Cells and Castlevania, or just my sheer desperation for a new Castlevania game period.
I take a live and let live attitude in regard to this game, and don’t judge anyone that plays it for whatever reason. We all live out different lives with our own experiences.
But I cannot and will not ever touch this game nor any Harry Potter product. Just can’t personally do it.
Triangle Strategy was my GOTY last year, and though Square-Enix doesn't pay it the attention that maybe Nintendo or NIS do, the tactical RPG genre take from them, at least with FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre and Triangle Strategy with their semi-grounded political plots that go into nitty-gritty details to really sell the world are my favorites in the genre.
Hopefully things turn around for this game, was a much better outing than The Avengers and Ultimate Alliance 3 imo, and the card gameplay was pretty damn fun.
It did release at a weird time in December though.
Post game Hi-Fi Rush, that game continues to be an absolute delight and might be my favorite first party Xbox game since Killer Instinct 2013, but I’m also getting back into Dead Cells since I haven’t really played it since the first DLC, and that Castlevania DLC is coming up. Man…they added a lot to this game since I played last. The other indie character weapons are great!
Might dabble around with Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on PS5 as well.
@Intr1n5ic Their track record of fostering devs is garbage, I agree. I don't think them bankrolling devs should be disregarded like you're doing though. Especially if it lets devs that have gotten screwed over in the past by other Publishers like Double Fine and Obsidian make what they want to make.
And doing the 'but that game doesn't count though' with Pentiment is the exact goalpost bulls*** i'm talking about. It reviewed very well, it found an audience, and is considered a success. Diminishing it as 'padding' because it isn't big AAA third person self important game #6468564 that wants 60 hours of my life is what I see way too many people do these days.
@Intr1n5ic you say 'as usual' when games like Pentiment only exist because of gamepass which Obsidian has admitted, and the only reason Psychonauts 2 even came out finished with all the bosses and stages intact is because of Microsoft's funding which Double Fine has admitted, so they do have an impact on the games and developers they buy, even with projects mid-development, even if only in part, so yes, i'm sure they had a decent impact on Hi-Fi Rush in terms of development, and they DEFINITELY had an impact with gamepass fostering its success as a shadow drop.
But looking at your post history, you're the exact poster i'm talking about as a 'pony that just moves goalposts' so tell you what, i'll disregard your opinion on the matter.
@KaijuKaiser called it. Moving the goalposts like a good predictable little pony. Let’s disregard that it was in active development for years under Microsoft, their management, and their funding. Nope, they had nothing to do with it. /s
The demo was a huge turn off for me. Doesn’t seem like an unmitigated disaster like some have been touting, but at the same time I expect this game to just join the likes of Remember Me and ReCore in just being meh and forgotten not long after their release.
@Green-Bandit Guarantee the ponies in this comments section that are saying ‘it still looks like a good time for what it is!’ would be relentlessly mocking it if it released exactly as is, but on gamepass instead of Playstation

I love how people are just saying "well Sony can buy Capcom or CD Project Red now"
Companies have to want to be bought you dinguses. If they aren't up for sale or willing to sell, Sony can't buy them.

Got it on Switch where it’s at home with all the other HD-2D games.

Just Like A Dragon Ishin pretty much.

I'm desperate for a new Castlevania at this point.
And not the Lords of Shadow *****, a REAL, sidescrolling Castlevania, linear or metroidvania.

@Artois2 Hi-Fi Rush is high key my current GOTY tbh, and probably only Silksong can top it.
Anyways, Tango will be fine. Though I’m curious how the inevitable Evil Within 3 will turn out.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line on Switch, Like A Dragon Ishin on Xbox, Castlevania SOTN on PS5 in anticipation for Dead Cells DLC.
