Re: Talking Point: Is PlayStation Right in Saying PC Isn't a 'Major Risk' to Console Business?

PcTV

I think a fairly important discussion is the argument of price and ease of use. In every other industry the trickier part is the one with the more expensive, less convenient alternatives. Netflix and Apple put a lot of their movies in theatres and a lot of their content on blu-ray. It doesn't really hurt their business model, if anything they're targeting an audience that either also has Netflix and wants a better, more expensive experience for some content or people that weren't their customers at all.
In this case, PlayStation is more of a Netflix than a Movie Theatre here. And Sony knows that.

Re: Is It Worth Buying a PS Vita in 2021?

PcTV

I wouldn't say it's worth it if you're expecting the full exprience still.
It's good if titles catch your eye and you get it for a fair price, since the library is small but solid, and the Vita itself is fantastic, but prices are only increasing.
I still use mine from time to time for some games and streaming my PS4, but Remote Play with PS5 is not even an option, and the Switch and other platforms are shrinking the list of games exclusive to Vita.
Not to mention, most phones today have larger, higher-res, OLED screens with better Wi-Fi signal.
Most people's attention is better off on the Switch for new games, and smartphones for Remote Play.

Actually the answer to M&K "cheating" is probably as simple as it gets.
Support M&K officially.
That way, you can divide M&K players from Pad players. Toggle if you want to exclude either.
Sure, there'll be people that still use third party adapters and "cheat", but most people would probably not bother.

And about the voice chat... yeah I don't do voice chat with strangers. It's not a R6S thing, it's a "people online" thing.

Re: Soapbox: Games As a Service Should Be Embraced, Not Misunderstood

PcTV

Supporting the game after launch is completely different from a "game as a service"
You gave some examples of games that got (mostly) paid content down the line, without even fixing some of the issues that plagued the games at launch. Assassin's Creeds, Fallouts, etc.

Naughty Dog has been smart of not making the Microtransactions intrusive to the campaign, then they'd have a problem. I own and played both games and didn't even know they had them.
Ghost of Tsushima and Witcher 3 are good examples, but it's they're different form others mentioned here. That's because the games actually felt complete at launch, and everything added later feel like bonuses or expansions to the base game.
And I wouldn't really qualify those as a "game as a service" for that very reason. So, no. I don't think they're misunderstood or that they should be embraced.

Re: Sony's Finally Resolved the PS Store's Biggest Flaw

PcTV

The biggest issue I've had with the Playstation Store for over a decade is that it only accepts US dollars in my region, rendering certain credit cards either useless or with ridiculous exchange rates. (There's also no official exchange rate publicly available, you learn about it through trial and error.)

Re: As the PS Plus Debate Rages, Sony Registers Record Subscribers

@BrainHacker I had no such question. The reason given by the article is also quite corporate and doesn't make sense if third parties have their own servers, or you're playing PvP. And even then, Sony has been shown to still retire the online component of a game if it's not profitable by itself, like it happened to DriveClub. It didn't even outlive some PS3 games' online.
