Gotham Knights Is Not Part of the Batman: Arkham Universe, But Suicide Squad Is

How does Suicide Squad take place in the Arkham Universe? Deadshot was White in Arkham City, now he's black.

Gotham Knights is only not in the same way Origins isn't. Intellectual property reasons. It's clearly post-Arkham Knight and heavily based off the same map.

The Suicide Squad thing is a little silly, considering Floyd Lawton changed races. I get the feeling it's got way too much to do with Will Smith's interpretation. What's this compulsion to borrow so much, visually, from David Ayer's awful movie?

The Arkham game that WB Montreal did wasn't well received, to the point where it isn't even on the remastered collection for PS4. Maybe Rocksteady doesn't want them messing with their universe.

Its probably not a good sign for your game when my biggest takeaway from the trailer is how simple and concise the PS5 logo is compared to the long and bulky Xbox Series X logo.

It makes perfect sense given Rocksteady made the Arkham trilogy and the upcoming SS game.
I think WB Montreal's Gotham Knights is not because of the box they put themselves in given we know a lot of the Arkham timeline and it would be really hard to place a game like that in it.

@Enuo First time I've heard that takeaway, and I've been looking at material for these games throughout the day.

It’s very simple. Rocksteady wants to keep its baby, its universe, to itself. They don’t want another studio making a (probable) live service game messing with their story and lore. It’s rocksteady’s universe plain and simple. It makes perfect sense.

Same devs probably will have homages to the past, but ultimately both games look like spinoffs. The game looked good and Rocksteady has a good history of delivering, but the lack of gameplay in this cinematic trailer leaves me waiting for more. Almost 2 years to go, assuming no delays, so plenty of time to show gameplay. Gotham Knights gameplay looked promising.

Not really feelin' Gotham Knights. As for Suicide Squad, the trailer was okay, definitely need to see some gameplay footage first. Harley Quinn looks like Margot Robbie, btw.

@WanderingBullet They all are meant to look more like the Suicide Squad movie versions. Which is fine by me, I liked that movie.
I’m also calling it now, the Joker is getting retconned.

@MordmitTotschlag Today I learned that Deathstroke and Deadshot are both white. Honestly thought Deathstroke was the white one and Deadshot was black. I say this as a genuine comic reader although not a huge DC nerd.

Both Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad may turn out to be really good but right now both have been removed from my gaming radar. GaaS titles do nothing for me whether it's Destiny or Anthem or The Avengers or these two offerings from DC.

All I ask is for a sp Wonder Woman game. Come on, make it happen!

@MordmitTotschlag very good point. More than likely this is his successor while he is in arkham or something. Or Rocksteady do something very silly like patch the previous games to change his skin colour for the sake of retcon

The Suicide Squad game gave me the impression it's a GAAS more so than Gotham Knights. Was hoping they showed some gameplay or talked about it more so we have some more info. "Revolutionary co-op like you never seen before" is what they said right? When they say things like that I always get the feeling the mentioning of solo play/campaign is to keep everything calm. Keeping my fingers crossed it's not a GAAS.

RS did Arkham, then WBM did Arkham prequel, which ended with a SS tease. RS did Knight which finished with Bruce dying. WBM then carried on with the death of Bruce. And RS carried on with the SS that WBM had teased. Yet none of them carry on the continuity.🤪

Also, there is absolutely ZERO chance Bruce is dead, and there is a huge chance he will be the Talon - this is "Arkham Knight DEFINITELY ISN'T Jason Todd wink" all over again.

This game should also be on the ps4 when the game comes out

For those saying this game directly follows on from Arkham Knight, how can it since Alfred is alive and Commissioner Gordon is dead?

It's just like how Arkham origins isn't considered a true Arkham game. So much so that they wouldn't even include in on the Arkham collection. Call it what they want it's still part of the same series. That game got a bad rap but it's still pretty good when it does things right.

If this Arkham knights is mostly multiplayer focused i doubt I'll play it anyway. As a gamer who's been gaming since gamings infancy i've just always preferred the single player experience. If this is one of those always online things I'm out.

The plot seems to follow up the cliffhanger at the end of Arkham Knight. Why would they use a story that reflects the Arkham timeline and confuse the audience like this. Pretty dumb decision.

@rachetmarvel According to the Arkhamverse comics, King Shark is indeed dead and the one we saw in Suicide Squad is his son, who takes up his father's name.

@Jaz007 I read that this game is set in the Arkham universe. They're probably just trying to promote the new Suicide Squad movie. Harley Quinn's face looks totally different now.

I thought the announcement and debut of other playable characters in the demo was an exciting addition to the Batman franchise. Looking forward to what WB Montreal has in store.
