The PlayStation fanbase has been on the decline for a while now (every gen the "winner" does this), but this is a new low. When you see the Xbox One, budget PCs, or heck, the Switch play the same games the PS4 Pro "can't" you'll understand a little better the game Sony is playing here.
Wow, so many experts on hardware and software on this comment section. So insightful. But for real, looking at specs, you'd be crazy to think current-gen hardware (specially the mid-gen upgrade) wouldn't be able to have a paired back version of the games we've seen so far.
A key difference is that Steam sometimes feels like everything is on sale. Games that are a decade old, or a month old. The PS3 and Vita haven't had significant sales in the past year, maybe more. And you see mostly the same games on sale on PS Store.
Microsoft is a very different studio from what it was just at the beginning of the generation. They've produced some great titles. I could almost see them going multiplat with how much they support the Switch, even if they didn't, the quality of WB games wouldn't drop with them. So live and let live.
@carlos82 If Sony was willing to abuse the copyright system of YouTube and other platforms to remove any negative feedback, are you gonna tell me they wouldn't remove negative ratings in their own platform? Specially at launch when it most matters?
I think outside the planet-travel we saw on Ratchet & Clank, I'm mostly unimpressed with what we saw. Resident Evil Village looks intense, and can't wait, but it doesn't feel "next gen" to me. I also find it terrible that we're yet to know the price. Makes it feel like they have a PS3 in their hands and they know it.
@Rob_230 Friendly reminder the PS3 played PS2 games at launch, while as of today it seems to be up there if it'll be the case for PS5. Backwards compatibility seems to be a case by case scenario atm. The Switch port makes most sense imho, but I think the same of P5, so what do I know.
@JJ2 Nintendo already released a Direct during the pandemic. Xbox also released their First Look video only a month ago. Both hitting 60fps. A lot of video editors I know work mostly from home to begin with, including myself.
An enhanced port (PC or PS5, take your pick) is borderline a necessity. Bloodborne just doesn't run well on PS4. PS4 Pro is a little more stable, but still not quite there.
I would say load times have gotten better on PS4 since launch. But some games launched with loading times that frankly shouldn't have been that long in the first place.
However, I'm more interested in leaving behind the masked load times. Y'know, helping your friend jump to the other side in ND games, or Lara Croft slowly crossing a tight spot. I wished the PS4 Pro had a 4K BD Drive and proper SSD support, as both of those would greatly help.(I honestly thought it had a 4K BD drive when I bought it.) But I guess they were waiting on PS5.
@dark_knightmare2 Oh you're probably thinking about maybe the first or second time, it has happened a couple times since then. The last one happened like two years ago.
So what's worse, a (perhaps former) employee leaking the game, or someone who has absolutely no affiliation to ND or Sony having full access to their games, logs and internal meetings.
@get2sammyb Could you be confusing a derrogatory name for a lack of "AAA" for Indie support? Because that's what pops up the most doing a quick Google search, almost all of it dating back to 2014.
Excluding PC, the Xbox 360 had a way bigger indie platform, the Vita might've had good support, but the 3DS dwarfs it, and the Switch would be the proper "indie king" of consoles for a good 3 years now.
So if all the "Indiestation 4" has to show for itself it the launch year, it might have to do more with the Xbox One doing pretty bad at the time. Because even the Wii U had a lot of support, Shovel Knight being the biggest examples, and still one of the biggest indies.
When was playstation the king of indies? Xbox 360 might've been early on but before and after it's been PC, maybe now the Switch is up there, but as a handheld more than anything.
I think it's perfectly okay to point out you'd prefer if the retro design was more faithful to the retro design. Nothing too important to stay on that topic for too long, but worth pointing out if you feel like it imo.
@nessisonett If it was on Switch, Nintendo would have no problem, they have a couple games with user-created content. Big exception with 1 to 1 recreations of levels from existing Mario games in Mario Maker.
@FullbringIchigo Maybe complicated is not the right word, perhaps uninviting for newcommers is a better description. They do seem to expect you to know certain things from game to game. The demo of the 3DS game felt like it was in the middle of a story rather than at the beginning of one. And I just stopped playing as that feeling never really left.
@Mafia_Man19 I'll ignore the name calling, I'd lower to that level but you'd win by experience!
I'm just gonna correct you in case someone actually reads this: the PS5 and Series X are both confirmed to have a 4K BD Drives. The fact that the One X doesn't use it for gaming is to have full compatibility with One games.
@Mafia_Man19 I'm sorry you can't see the benefit of a faster and more resistant format simply because the other one is cheaper. Also, Blu-ray is over a decade old, not exactly "cutting edge". The only console with a 4K BD drive right now is Xbox One X. I honestly think you're trolling.
@HammerKirby3 Well, given that both PS4 and XBO require installations because discs are too slow, no, I don't think it's an exageration. Even X360 and PS3 started using installs to speed up loading. Given what was possible on N64 I wouldn't say worse, but different perhaps. Some games on N64 had voiceacting to a degree you wouldn't think possible given the reputation of the N64. Conker's Bad Fur Day, Rogue Squadron, Resident Evil 2 come to mind. With N64's better handling of 3D gameplay and less issues with texture warping, they'd be interesting takes on those games.
@Ristar24 I never owned a Dreamcast but those are very infamous. I'd be surprised if you ever rented a PS1 game or bought a used game and never got one that just didn't work anymore. Conversion issues also happened a lot with PS1, and PS2 for that matter. An issue only fixed until 60hz became the worldwide standard.
@Ralizah Oh I'm well aware of the reason, I just don't think it's an excuse. It would benefit everyone who buys physical games, a shrinking market, I realise. But it would be just better to not have to worry about scratches (I've personally have had to return dozens of used games because they just didn't work) or having to buy external memories due to large installs.
@Octane SSDs are also better and more expensive for gaming. If the Witcher 3 could ship with a 32GB card, I don't see what the excuse of everyone else is.
Interesting how history prooved Nintendo right in staying with cartridges, optical media was a big issue for loading and preservation and is borderline unusable for games now.
PS Plus isn't free, and if you cancel your paid subscription, you can't access these games anymore. You also can't get all the year's games for paying one month, you'll exclusively get that month's games. I feel like commenting this since I often see people asking these kind of questions because of articles like this.

Re: Poll: Would You Still Pay for PS Plus if Online Multiplayer Was Free Elsewhere?
@Mince It's not free, stop calling them that. You pre-pay for games you might not even want.
Re: Poll: Would You Still Pay for PS Plus if Online Multiplayer Was Free Elsewhere?
Given how PS has a much worse online than the competition, charging for it would look pretty bad.

So... for some games it's okay to report the leaks?
Re: Talking Point: Is the PlayStation Store Starting to Rival Steam Sales?

The PS3 and Vita haven't had significant sales in the past year, maybe more. And you see mostly the same games on sale on PS Store.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Could Have Been Open World
ND has dropped the ball with every open area they've made since the Jak games, they're better off doing the smaller, more scripted kind of maps.

A similar controller comes standard with most LGs, can even control my PS4 with it.

Re: PS Vita Exclusive Persona 4 Golden Is Jumping to PC, No Word on PS4
@TheFaker Sony has been clear about stopping support for the PS4 games-wise.
Re: PS Vita Exclusive Persona 4 Golden Is Jumping to PC, No Word on PS4
Why port it to PS4 if it's going to be replaced in half a year. They're probably waiting for the PS5.
Re: Your First Look at PS5 Will Be in 1080p, 30 Frames-Per-Second
@gingerfrog By this point I think anyone who thinks 4K is worthless are the people that are yet to experience it.
Re: Guide: All PS4 Games with Cross-Play Compatibility
Mortal Kombat 11 on PS4 has (somewhat limited) crossplay with Xbox One.
And Street Fighter V has PC crossplay, although not a console, I suppose.
Re: Your First Look at PS5 Will Be in 1080p, 30 Frames-Per-Second
@JJ2 Nintendo already released a Direct during the pandemic. Xbox also released their First Look video only a month ago. Both hitting 60fps.

@JJ2 Doesn't stop Nintendo from rendering literally every Nintendo Direct at 1080p 60fps.
