I’ve known Aloy was gay from the moment we first met her in Zero Dawn.
It was clear with how she reacted to female characters versus male characters. They’ve been hinting at this for a long time.
I don’t know why anyone is shocked by this development. Aloy with a dude frankly wouldn’t fit her personality or character development. She’s a true blue Lesbian.
Frankly I don’t really care. It’s the writer’s choice. They wrote a lesbian character. What a surprise.
Iron Galaxy would have done a much better job with the port. They understand that the way you build a PC game is to optimize the hell out of it for mid-range gaming hardware and then scale it up and down.
Naughty Dog probably assumed every PC gamer is rich and runs a RTX 4090 paired with a top of the line 600 dollar CPU. Because that’s the only way the game runs like it is supposed to.
The way the game abuses memory makes me think that Naughty Dog, who have little to no experience with modern PC development, did most of the work on the port.
It also explains why the game’s textures look worse than the PS3 version when set to medium. They really didn’t know how to optimize the game for 8GB and below cards. Which are the majority of cards in use.
The biggest hurdle for console to PC porting is memory management. The way a game’s memory needs are mapped is completely different from console. A console typically gives a developer a huge pool of super fast system memory that they can move around in accordance with the game’s demands. All console memory can be video memory when needed; it’s fast enough and has the bandwidth.
On PC, you’ve got to be very careful with memory management. Because there is a huge difference in terms of bandwidth between your video memory and your general memory. And I think that’s at the core of why TLOU Part 1 is so bad on PC. The developers clearly didn’t understand how to revamp the game for a strict segregated memory environment.
That sounds like a genuinely fantastic idea. I’d pay the full 70 bucks for it.
They could also use the game to parody trends in the modern industry. Like have Bubsy throw a complete fit that he needs to buy microtransactions to have a chance at leveling up his influencer score.
Way Back in the day, when the cockpits on racing games were terrible at best, I did pure first person or third person depending on circumstances. Third person for arcade racers and 1st person for sim racers.
But GT7 actually has good car interior detail. So that’s how I play it.
I wish they’d pay tribute to Killzone by making another one.
I’d prefer if Sony’s teams had two concurrent franchises they alternated between. Kind of how Insomniac did back in the PS3 era (alternating between Resistance and Ratchet) and Naughty Dog until recently (alternating between Uncharted and TLOU).
In my ideal world, Guerrilla would alternate between Horizon and Killzone games.
I’m so jealous of you Europeans when it comes to cars.
All we get here in the states are lame full size trucks and cross over SUVs. The cool cars are all horribly overpriced Corvettes and Mustang GTs that are out of everyone’s price ranges.
I’m a fan of good fuel efficient compact cars that handle nicely and have a bit of a sporting flair to them. And most importantly have a manual transmission. They are becoming an endangered species here. People still look at my 2018 Civic Si crazy because it’s a six speed on a relatively modern car.
Had a really fun battle system and pretty spectacular visuals for its era (unfortunately I played it on the gimped Xbox 360 version with horribly encoded FMVs, but the real time graphics shined) along with a great soundtrack. Blinded by Light is my second favorite FF battle theme ever after FFIV’s boss fight theme.
But it had a ton of issues. The main plot was some nonsense, even by Final Fantasy’s standards. The characters were pretty dull or in the case of Snow completely insufferable. The linearity of the first 2/3rds of the game was a bit overkill; FF games are usually pretty linear experiences which is great but FFXIII took it way too far. It did get better in the post-game though.
I’d say the plot and the characters were the worst part of the experience for me. I was mega hyped for the game but once I finished it I walked away pretty disappointed. Except for the music and battle system, both of which were stellar.
So I’ve always ranked it as ok. It’s not the dumpster fire that the internet always tried to make it out to be, but it’s also on the weaker side of the entire FF franchise.
Norman Reedus has always reminded me of the guys I sell auto parts to. If I knew nothing about him I would assume he is a shade tree mechanic who drives a partially rusted 1993 Chevrolet single cab.
I would say my only visual problem with this game is that the character models seem like a big downgrade from FFVII Remake, which genuinely still has the best character models I’ve ever seen in a game.
They still look great, but they don’t hold a candle to FFVII Remake’s character models.
Final Fantasy hasn’t been truly “turn based” since FFX. XIII was turn based at its core but you had no direct control over your party members outside of changing the Paradigm so it was drastically different than previous turn based FF games.
Once they merged with Enix Square sort of relegated the turn based gameplay to Dragon Quest and focused FF on being drastically different between installments from a gameplay standpoint.
To be fair, Final Fantasy VII had a ton of foul language back in the day.
It helped me develop my cursing skills as a kid lol.
Looking back, Cid Highwind was a huge influence on me long term. He was a smoker; I’m a smoker. Cusses like a Marine; I cuss like a Marine. Mechanically inclined and liked tinkering on stuff; I’m the same way today. Obsession with aircraft; I have an obsession with aircraft.
Once they gave him a voice they gave him a thick southern American accent. I have a pretty thick southern accent lol.
They won’t achieve much. The die was cast back in the first year of development almost 8 years ago.
Had this game launched on PC, PS4, and Xbox One back in 2018 it may would have had a chance to stand out. Live service (as we currently know it) was still new and fresh at the time. The market had space available for the taking. They could have released a 9th Gen version to coincide with the launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series.
But because they took their sweet ass time building this game, it’s launching way too late to take advantage of that grace period the live service market had back then.
The market is locked up now. There’s no more room for newcomers.
The market for live service is so oversaturated that I have no idea why companies are still trying to break in.
The genre is dominated by Fortnite, Final Fantasy XIV, Apex, Call of Duty, Destiny, and Genshin. Because of the required time sink demanded of gamers for these types of games it’s not even a money problem; it’s a time problem. Gamers interested in live service games don’t have enough time to play them all.
Why can’t studios and publishers recognize this easily seen truth? The market has expanded as far as it reasonably can. Those six games dominate the live service market; there’s nothing left for any newcomers.
Had Rocksteady used these 8 years to build a Superman single player story driven experience, or even an Arkham sequel series, it’s likely they could have gotten two highly reviewed games out by now that would have sold like hotcakes and made a ton of money.
I think what they will try to go for is a Gotham Knights rebalance of the mechanics. GK was clearly a live service game early in development. Once it became clear that the Live Service market is over saturated they decided to strip it all out.
Problem is that they couldn’t fundamentally redesign the game, so the balance felt really off putting on that game.
Suicide Squad is even more dependent on its live service game play loop. So it’ll suffer even more with the attempted rebalance.
Such a shame. The Arkham Trilogy was fantastic. Arkham Knight is my fifth favorite game of the PS4 era. It’s a shame Rocksteady went down this road.
I’ve enjoyed it so far but I will say that it’s so Ubisoft like that it hurts.
Like more Ubisoft than Horizon is. It’s a Ubisoft game with a cool combat system and a very unique story. That’s what has kept me interested. The combat and the story are really good.
But it’s one of those games where I think it would have been better as a linear level to level experience. There’s a ton of annoying busy body work in the open world.
I’m black myself (well half black half white) and I fully agree with you about a diverse Bond.
Bond is a white male character. Anything else would just be weird to me. I don’t need him to look like me to enjoy the character.
Instead what I want to see is Tom Hardy playing Bond and Idris Elba playing the main villain. Make it a story where Elba’s villain is ultimately the main character; give him a legitimate cause for doing what he’s doing. Make it to the point that Hardy’s Bond actually sympathizes with his cause, but cannot agree with the extremes Elba’s character is willing to go to achieve the results.
I kind of imagine a story where Elba plays a former commander in the British Royal Marines. During a mission where the Royal Marines are assisting a smaller country fight off a larger nation Elba calls in a report that a large air strike package is coming to their location. He requests aerial support from the nearby HMS Queen Elizabeth. Due to political reasons, London refuses his mission support request. He and his forces are decimated by the air strike forces, leaving him with significant scarring and burns around his neck (fitting for a Bond villain to have some sort of physical ailment; most of them have it) and most of his men killed.
A few years later he launches a plan of revenge against the government that wronged him.
From there I’m kind of out of ideas lol. Not a writer. But that’s a kind of idea I would really enjoy for a gritty Bond film where he has to question his own moral compass since the villain’s cause makes perfect sense.
Unfortunately (well I’m excited so I’ll say fortunately in the grand scheme of things) my girlfriend and I just found out a few weeks ago that we are going to be parents in November. So all of my long term expensive purchase plans that were gaming related got canned. The baby comes first.
Best way to play it is resolution mode at 120hz with VRR.
It’s basically the regular resolution mode but the framerate in gameplay routinely hovers been 70-90fps. VRR cleans it up so it’s super smooth. I did some races last night just to mess with it and it was a shocking improvement over the 60fps framerate mode I used on my last 60hz TV. It really looks just like the previously very unstable resolution mode setting but with the smoothness of the framerate mode thanks to VRR and high framerate average.
Only issue with all the modes is like DF said, Ray traced reflections are disabled for replays. Which kind of blows but I don’t watch replays all that often anyway.
The issue is that the Switch (and its successor when it drops) has that market pretty much locked up.
The niche applications (like open source software, emulation, PC AA games with decent battery life) is dominated by the Steam Deck.
I don’t think there is room is for a Vita 2. Sony is super controlling so they would never make it as open to use as the Steam Deck. It would be forced to compete with Nintendo, who would bury it; they consolidated their studios with the Switch so they can get games out quickly.
A dedicated Sony handheld would have a lack of 1st party support from the get go because they don’t have enough studios to support two different platforms.
The only option Sony would have is to make a portable console that runs PS4 games pretty well and could play specially prepared PS5 games with much lower settings. That way Sony wouldn’t need to split its game development resources. But as a consequence it would have pretty awful battery life.
But once again, it would need to compete with both the Switch and Steamdeck for portable AAA gaming. I just don’t see how they could be successful at it.
Sony and Naughty Dog should be utterly ashamed for how this port was released.
It’s inexcusable. If you make a commitment to release a game on a platform you need to make sure that release is up to par. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it needs to be solid.
This isn’t anywhere close to solid. It’s utter crap. The only way to run this game is to have a monster 3000 dollar gaming rig. And that’s just unacceptable when the majority of gaming rigs are mid range or high low range.
Like look at the game’s textures on medium setting. It looks worse than the PS3’s versions textures. There’s just no excuse for it.
Konami was my life back in the SNES/Genesis and then PS1 era. They were my favorite third party developer by a mile. So many greats like Contra: Hard Corps, Contra III, Rocket Knight Adventures, Castlevania series, etc.
I used to rock my official Konami T-shirt and Hat Combo all the time when I was young. And when I got my first cell phone way back in 2003 my message tone was the Konami jingle for forever.

Starting with 18 characters out of the box is fantastic. It’s more than enough.

I really hope they can make a comeback.
Re: Poll: Which PS5, PS4 Games Are You Most Looking Forward to in April 2023?
Money is tight right now and I’m mostly playing PS Plus Extra games. But I’m picking up Burning Shores because it’s only 19.99.
Time to reinstall Forbidden West from my Collector’s Edition disc copy.
Re: Indie Not on PlayStation Beats PS5, PS4's Biggest Hits to BAFTA's Game of the Year
I’ve never heard of this game but it looks very interesting.
If it comes to PlayStation I’ll give it a try.

By the way, love the profile picture. Sisko was the best captain.

Yeah I don’t get that take. Indie music is usually very good.
Cadence of Hyrule has the best soundtrack I’ve listened to in years and it’s an indie title using the Zelda license.
That Dark World theme remix is AMAZING. It’s perfect club music.

More like a Fiat/Chrysler product lol.
Re: Rumour: Sony's Big PS5 Showcase to Take Place in Approximately Two Months
We need to see what their first party lineup is over the next two years.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for April 2023?
Already own Sackboy. I’m interested in Meet Your Maker since it seems like a combination of Super Mario Maker (which I absolutely adore) and Doom.
