I dunno why people say Spider-man 2 doesn’t look good.
I noticed a number of improvements over Miles Morales. Namely the Ray tracing is of higher resolution. The water effects were better. The Symbiote suit’s “breathing” effects looked very good.
Unless I see some sort of accurate dictation on Marx or Lenin I’m not interested in this sort of subject matter for a game.
I don't mind politics in my media (my favorite anime film of all time is Patlabor II and that movie beats its just-war/unjust peace and Japan is hypocritical political message into you by the end of it) but it needs to be intelligently presented and not rely on simple platitudes. Like “eat the rich.”
Bioshock did it right. It was a veiled critique on Randian ideology and its flaws as well as the lack of control over your destiny in a video game. But they didn’t dumb it down. They presented it in an intelligent way the entire time and wove into the story. Same goes for Xenogears, probably gaming’s best take on religious fanaticism ever told.
And like I mentioned previously, Patlabor II is an absolutely genius movie. And the politics of its creator, Oshii, are on full display the entire time.
Basically political commentary can be done in media, but there is a right way to do it (Patlabor II, Bioshock) and a wrong way to do it (whatever this nonsense game is and She-Hulk).
Killzone would do better than a new IP. A new IP is always a risky move.
Killzone is a beloved past IP. The early adopters would be people buying in just to play Killzone again. Then assuming it’s good and the content drops are good and on a regular cycle, word of mouth takes care of the rest.
Ya know there’s a market that is being completely underserved these days and isn’t oversaturated.
The traditional multiplayer arena shooter.
Call of Duty is pretty much the only name in town these days and while it’s still big, it pales in comparison to Warzone’s popularity. When people say “call of duty is too big to compete with” they are talking about Warzone. The traditional arena COD experience is much smaller. Battlefield generally doesn’t compete in that segment; it’s a wide area objective based shooter. There’s a shocking lack of death match focused smaller arena shooters beyond Call of Duty.
That’s an untapped market that a Killzone multiplayer game could get into. Killzone is a known favorably viewed IP. It had a unique multiplayer loop with its transitioning game modes in the middle of matches and its heavier gunplay and slower movement would differentiate it from Call of Duty.
I don’t understand why Sony doesn’t go for it. I think it would do well. Especially with older gamers who grew up on arena shooters but don’t want to try and break into Call of Duty’s high skill ceiling (it’s a sweat fest trust me).
I don’t think I’d use the word “great” and “Halo Infinite” in the same sentence.
It’s a good game. And the gameplay loop is sublime.
As a live service experience it’s a disaster. Live Service depends on constant frequent content updates. That’s why Fortnite is so successful. Epic is always dropping new events, changing the map, adding new weapons and content, and offering unique challenges. And uniquely speaking it isn’t predatory on its microtransactions. Most important Epic never makes promises that it can’t keep. People can rag on Fortnite all they want but Epic really nailed how a live service game should be run.
Halo Infinite as a basic multiplayer experience is good. But as a Live Service game it fails hard. They never kept up the updates on a timely fashion. 343 kept making promises and then not following through. And that’s why it’s all but being abandoned now.
What worries me is that Sony has the talent to craft good multiplayer games. But I’m worried that they won’t understand what makes Live Service viable. Fortnite does it well. Destiny, despite being a little predatory with its content, does it well. As does Apex and even Call of Duty.
I hope Sony understands that with live service you have got to constantly drop good content constantly. If you slack up for even a month, you start bleeding players.
A lot of us grew up on PS1. And PS1 wasn’t a multiplayer centric console. I mean it had some good multiplayer games, but that’s not what sold that console. Single player experiences did. People who were local multiplayer focused bought N64s.
It informs the tastes of an entire generation of gamers.
Me, I like multiplayer. I was playing a ton of StarCraft on Battlenet back then so I’ve always appreciated good multiplayer. But I am extremely picky about them.
I actually play Fortnite myself. Only with my friends though. I can’t stand solos.
It’s not a terrible game by any means.
I mean when it comes to multiplayer these days I pretty much only play Modern Warfare II unless my friends are online on Fortnite. If Nintendo would have included matchmaking in Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp I’d be cracked out on that because I love Advance Wars multiplayer. But unfortunately it does not include any matchmaking.
Insomniac will most likely give us all kinds of performance modes.
Quality: reconstructed 4K @ 30 with Ray tracing
Performance: reconstructed 1440p @ 60 no Ray tracing
Performance RT: reconstructed 1440p with a lower internal resolution @ 60 with toned down ray tracing
40fps quality mode
Unlocked performance mode up to 120hz @ 1080p.
Considering that Nintendo is Disney levels of sue happy about their IP I’m fairly confident that square Enix got clearance from their lawyers before hand.
The vast majority of games we saw today have been announced for years at this point and we have been bombarded with trailers and interviews about them.
The legitimate announcements were either indie titles or third parties that have been heavily rumored.
The only things that saved this from being an utter disaster was Spider-Man 2 and the MGS Remake and Master Collection Vol 1.
What’s the general hook of this game? I mean it’s got cool art design for that one villainous dude with the helmet. But other than it looks like any other 2020s western game.
And judging by the box art we are getting Substance and Subsistence instead of the OG releases. Which hopefully means Subsistence will have Metal Gear 1 and 2 MSX included.
I think PSVR2 will end up being very successful. But it will take a long time to get there. I think a price drop of 100 bucks would really speed things up.
Only way I see Killzone getting a call out is if Sony is like “yeah we used to make first person shooters. Pretty good ones at that. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Now take your Zero Dawn Remaster and be happy you peasants.”
I’m glad Insomniac is building the best single player experience they can first and foremost.
With that said, a co-op mode added a few months after launch would be interesting. That’s how Ghost of Tsushima was. SP built the game as a single player experience first and foremost. But they added a multiplayer co-op mode (Legends) sometime after launch leveraging the open world they had built.
I would like to see something like that. But the single player experience comes first and foremost. Save a co-op mode for a few months down the road.

Microsoft has a history of shooting itself in the foot with a shotgun.
Re: PS5's Remote Play Portable Will Allegedly Launch in November
@NotSoCryptic
I remember buying a PS TV solely because it was 40 dollars on clearance and came with a Dualshock 3.
I bought it mainly for the controller. I did end up using the PS TV a decent bit to play PS1 games I already owned on my account.

Sadly, enough, the Xbox ship isn’t doing too great either.
Both Microsoft and Sony are kind of flopping around right now.
Re: Reaction: Sony Flubs First Proper PS5 Presentation in Over 18 Months
@CieloAzure
Even that is too expensive. A switch is only $50 more a steam deck is only $150 more. Both can play games without an active Internet connection.
Re: PS5's Remote Play Portable Will Allegedly Launch in November
My Nintendo switch plays games without an Internet connection.
I’ll just stick with that. This is such a waste of resources.

Contrary to popular belief, once you leave, a major city our over the air Internet service turns into complete crap.

So when I reference it I usually call it Shadow Moses.

Ya know what’s bad for me personally? This was the only showcase I’ve ever actually watched live.
In the past I always just read the news articles afterwards.
I wasn’t super hyped but I said “I’ll give this live showcase a try. It’ll have to be interesting.”
What a disappointment.
Re: Poll: Was This Sony's Best PlayStation Showcase Yet?
@FenIsMightier
Ya know I’ve been wondering about that for years now. How much longer can we all keep this up?
Maybe the industry as a whole needs to dial it back a bit, drop budgets a little lower, and do more AA games.
Not every game needs a budget of 300 million. Perhaps 30-50 million with slightly lower production values.

Re: Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Is Real, Confirmed for PS5

So long as they keep to the original script and update the controls a bit I don’t think they can screw it up.
Basically just keep the plot, script, and voice actors the same. Then add MGSV’s control scheme. Highest end visuals possible.
I think they can do this so long as they follow those rules.
Re: Fairgames from Haven Studio Comes to PS5, PC
@Icey664
I agree. It’s very mid.
Except for MGS3 Remake and the MGS Collection. Those are the only two likes I’ve put on the stream so far.
