Bubsy 3D

One-time top-dog of the console game Atari has announced the acquisition of more than 100 games from the 80s and 90s, which sounds totally tubular to us, dude, and includes fun throwbacks like Hardball and Demolition Racer. But when buying so many IPs, there is always the chance of a real stinker sneaking through. Case in point, Atari has officially acquired Bubsy 3D, one of the most cursed games ever made.

Developed by Bend Studio (then known as Eidetic) for the PS1 in 1995, Bubsy 3D was the team of eight's first console title and their first effort in 3D. It was awful, regarded as one of the worst games ever made, most notable perhaps for the overwhelming negativity it elicits in its players. Electronic Gaming Monthly remarked, at the time: "Pretend your controller is filled with mud—this is how Bubsy plays."

With an awkward camera, cringe-inducing dialogue, and unresponsive controls, we'd be willing to bet this means some kind of remaster or (shudder) remake is being floated in Atari HQ right now. Attempts have been made during the intervening decades, such as Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, to try and make Bubsy a thing, and it's just not happening, guys; the Bubsy ship sailed decades ago.

What are your memories of Bubsy 3D, did you ever play it? Relive the bad old days with us in the comments section below.
