Sales of PS5 systems account for more than half of all console purchases in the UK during the first quarter of 2023, GfK data has revealed. Both Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S recorded percentage losses compared to the same period of time in 2022 (down by more than 25% and then 18% respectively) while sales of the PS5 were up a whopping 180%.

It's well documented how PS5 Stock has been in much more plentiful supply for the past six months or so, with the console also selling well in Japan and across the USA. In February, Sony set a new record for an individual PlayStation platform's unit sales in a single month. It's estimated around 500,000 consoles were sold to consumers within the USA. In Japan, PS5 has traded top spot with the Nintendo Switch for the past six weeks or so.

On the software side, just under eight million games were sold in the first quarter of 2023, representing a one per cent increase over last year. Hogwarts Legacy is the region's best-selling game of the year so far, outpacing the likes of Elden Ring and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga from last year. Scaling the data down to March 2023 alone, Resident Evil 4 was the month's best-selling title, with 65 per cent of copies sold on PS5, PS4.
