Re: After the Record-Breaking Success of College Football, EA Sports Is Bringing Back Basketball

Niktaw

Seeing as 2k is actively ruining their game, I’d love to see a college bball game made by someone else. College brings some unique stuff to the table: recruiting, a huge amount of teams, rankings, and of course March madness. Remaking some of the amazing college venues with the crowds going insane will be awesome. I really like how they implemented the college atmosphere and the impact it has on the game in NCAA football.

Re: Warhammer RPG Rogue Trader Gets Massive PS5 Patch Just in Time for Christmas

Niktaw

Fantastic but pretty glitchy game so hopefully this patch cleans a lot of that up. That said I loved it and will try to talk a buddy into another go at it co-op. I didn’t get into Wrath of the Righteous but thanks to Rogue Trader I’ll be trying that again as well. For pure strategy RPG goodness I’d rank this game right at the top. Can’t wait to see what Owlcat does next.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Shifts to 'Real-Time Action Combat'

Niktaw

The combat in DA2 was nothing like DA:O. Dragon Age 2 was total garbage, Dragon Age Origins was one of the best CRPGs ever released on console. Everything after origins has been useless and this game doesn’t look any different. The only impressive thing is how long they’ve milked the Dragon Age brand after putting out one fantastic game way back on PS3.

Re: PS Portal Still Going Strong, Demand in USA Exceeds Supply

Niktaw

@LifeGirl what don’t you understand? I can play my ps5 anywhere in my house, on my deck, in bed, wherever. If you don’t mind handhelds, it’s certainly cheaper than buying a second tv and ps5, and cheaper than a phone good enough to do the same thing. It’s not the most practical thing I’ve ever bought, but I certainly use and enjoy it.

Re: Don't Overpay Scalpers for Baldur's Gate 3 Physical Deluxe Edition, Says Larian

Niktaw

I paid for the deluxe edition at launch so I could play this over the weekend with a friend, and now I’ll gladly play for the physical edition so it can sit on the shelf next to my copies of BG1 and 2 and the expansions and strategy guides. This is one of the best games ever made and I’ll easily get 200 hours of playing time out of it eventually. From that standpoint, a couple hundred bucks is a very reasonable price to pay in my opinion.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3 (PS5) - One of the Greatest RPGs of Our Time

Niktaw

@General_Disarray I have to agree with you. Having played several D&D based games, this was still a challenge to grasp everything. If you’ve never played any of the old Obsidian games or the Pillars of Eternity games, this is going to be a steep learning curve. Be prepared to get your hat handed to you over and over.

Re: Madden NFL 24 (PS5) - Another Five Yards Forward for EA Sports' Football Sim

Niktaw

This was my worst sports game purchase I can remember. Had not bought a madden since 21, so I skipped 2 of them to give the game time to actually change. It is EXACTLY the same. Minor adds here and there, but otherwise this is literally the same game. All the same plays from 21 and the same plays that worked then work now. I was bored to death after 3 glitch riddled franchise games and slogging through the laggy menus. Deleted it when BG3 started preloading.

Re: Diablo 4's Max Level Will Take Most Players 150 Hours to Hit

Niktaw

The problem is playing these games at launch is completely different than playing them 5 years later. I beat D3 3 or 4 times with my friends at launch and there wasn’t a ton to do after that. Now obviously there are a million things to do in the end game. I just don’t have 5 years to play the same game, and that’s where I agree with @SgtTruth. 10% of D4 players will be the ones grinding this game for years.

Re: Can You Put a Price on a Quality RPG? Yes, and It's Rising All the Time

Niktaw

When I saved up and bought final fantasy 3 on SNES in 1993, it was $70 at toys r us. The gaming community has exploded which has helped keep the price of games down, but the fact that a new game still cost the same or less 30 years later is insanity. This is why I laugh when people cry about RE4 remake having some optional paid content. I paid $60 for that game on PS2 20 years ago. Nothing else on earth costs the same that it did 20 years ago. I know there are a lot of reasons why that is the case, but we the gaming community have been incredibly lucky to have prices remain more or less constant since the inception of the home gaming console.

Re: Mini Review: Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster (PS4) - One of the Greatest 2D RPGs of All Time

Niktaw

@kyleforrester87 at the time, the story was the best rpg story ever by a wide margin. ff6 has one of the most cohesive plots ever. It’s complex and has a ton of characters, but it’s very easy to follow. Even FFX, which has an absolutely amazing storyline, gets a little confusing with the sin and jecht stuff. And if you look at what came before FF6, having that amount of characters and no real “main” character, and the amount they’re all developed, was insane.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Niktaw

I gave it a 9. Loved the original on PS2, perfect blend of action and survival horror. This remake is insane, so much fun. Literally beat it and started a new game right away which I never do. I knocked a half point off for the inventory management and another half point for bear traps.

Re: The Witcher 4 Will Kick Off a Multi-Game Saga, Says CD Projekt RED

Niktaw

@riceNpea I think you’re getting a little carried away. They announced that they plan on having a story arc that spans multiple games. If developers didn’t think that far ahead we would never have sequels. I’d rather they formed the story with multiple games in mind instead of a hacked on sequel with a thrown together story. They know the Witcher 4 is going to be a massive success so why not create a massive, deep story arc that can be told across multiple games?

Re: Madden NFL 23 (PS5) - EA Sports Settles for Another Safe Five Yard Gain

Niktaw

@Ashfordwasp @Svark you guys are doing it right, 5 years is probably a good time between madden games to appreciate a noticeable improvement in the game. Also a console generation helps. Unfortunately madden 16 featured an RPG like, exp based player progression system in franchise mode which has since been removed for a dumbed down simplified version. However, if you get lucky and the scouting system works for an entire season, it adds a nice thin layer of depth.

Re: Madden NFL 23 (PS5) - EA Sports Settles for Another Safe Five Yard Gain

Niktaw

@GamesVanDerBeek if EA were trying it would be a different story. What we’re sick of is the same glitches and problems being in the game year after year, the months of lies leading up to the game every year (this year was touted as the most polished madden ever, then it released with all the same bugs from last year), removed features being added back in and hyped as improvements, etc. NBA2k pushes the envelope with new features and modes every year even though the game engine is largely the same. It’s possible to release an annual sports title and make enough changes to warrant a full priced game. EA has instead chosen to buy a monopoly and poop out trash every year.

Re: Madden NFL 23 (PS5) - EA Sports Settles for Another Safe Five Yard Gain

Niktaw

@Blaze215 joes review also mentioned that IGN used the phrase “a step in the right direction” for like 7 straight years in their Madden review.

Here is what Push Square said in their 6 out of 10 madden 21 review (2 maddens ago):

“Atmosphere is flat on the field. Franchise mode needs overhauled. Playcalling menu is cumbersome. Tired gameplay and animations.”

All of those issues are exactly the same in madden 23. 7/10.

Re: Madden NFL 23 (PS5) - EA Sports Settles for Another Safe Five Yard Gain

Niktaw

This game is the exact same hot garbage as last year. I’ve loved madden since I was a kid in the 90s, but I haven’t bought the last 2 and I’m not playing another second until they rebuild the game from the ground up. I’ve been calling the same exact plays, hearing the same commentary and seeing the same glitches since 2013. NBA2K21 changed more from the ps4 to the ps5 version than madden has in the last 5 years combined. They toss in a couple half baked features that are either useless and broken (coordinators) or were already in the game years ago (precision passing).
